Scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3s files

I'm having really horrible scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3 files. AAC encoded files play extremely clearly on iTunes 10.5

After reviewing all comments, it appears that this issue is squarely with the 10.5 upgrade that Apple did on I tunes. I have done all the uninstall and re-install that you can do.  Songs play fine on some, terrible on others, but yet they all will play on Windows Media Player. I can't believe it is the chipset for those that AMD processors, because everything was fine on the 10.4.  So,  Apple please fix this or offer us a way to uninstall from the 10.5 to the 10.4 where everything should be okay.   Awaiting your reply with thousands of others!

    Me again,
A friend suggested that I do a system restore.
I did a search for system restore in Windows 7 and got a very intuitive menu.
I selected an earlier system restore point and executed the restore.
After the computer restart I reloaded Firefox 5.0 and the Ask.com problem was corrected.
My friend says this approach may work about 25% of the time to fix this kind of problem. In my case it worked and I am happy.
    Thanks all.

  • Question Random Distorted / Garbled Sound In Windows XP Home

I have laptop Pavilion dv5282ea and sometimes sound gets garbled / distorted. Listen to this. Note that this happens only when music/video is playing, i mean only when there should be any sound coming off. I had this problem in the beginning when i purchased laptop, but as a few years passed by, problem disappeared. 2 weeks ago i formatted and reinstalled Windows XP and now this problem came up again. Should i put headphones on, or listen through built-in speakers, problem is still there which should indicate that the problem is with sound card or drivers. When i am watching online video, the problem happens, but i have noticed that if i start playing music in Winamp, the problem disappears or sometimes gets gets garbled, until i stop music from playing. I often heard this garbled sound after resuming from standby.
My audio driver version is 3.23.0.0. I installed latest driver 3.23.0.0 A but nothing changed and it still shows old driver.
What should i do to fix this problem?

Can you please download the latest BIOS update for your notebook and also update Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646). I would also recommend you to update the Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7 and this should resolve your issue.

  • No sound from MPEG files

when streaming mpeg files through the internet, or even dragging mpeg files onto iTunes, there seems to be no sound. However, when viewing wmv files, there is no problem. Does anyone know of any downloads or quick cures for this problem???

Hi Jak-E and Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums
<<AAC-encoded files rival the quality of audio CDs, and sound as good as or better than MP3 files encoded at the same or even a higher bit rate. For example, a 128 Kbps AAC file should sound as good as or better than a 160 Kbps MP3 file. Because the bit rate is lower, the AAC file will also be smaller than the MP3 file. AAC files enable you to store the most music on your hard disk or iPod. You can fit the same number of songs on an audio CD using Apple Lossless, AIFF, or WAV; the song files are smallest with the Apple Lossless encoder.>>
MP3 files can be fairly large. Make certain you have at least 15% free internal hard drive space. Go to iTunes/Preferences/Advanced and make sure you have your sound preferences set appropriately.
    Choosing MP3 custom import settings
If you use MP3 encoding, you can use custom settings for greater control over the quality and size of imported files.
To use custom settings with MP3 encoding:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Importing.
Choose MP3 Encoder from the Import Using pop-up menu.
Choose Custom from the Setting pop-up menu.
In the dialog that appears, choose settings:
Stereo Bit Rate: The higher the Mono or Stereo kilobits per second (Kbps), the higher the audio quality and the larger the file size. The most common bit rate for stereo MP3 files is between 128 Kbps and 192 Kbps. Lower bit rates are more appropriate for sound files containing voice recordings (as opposed to music).
Variable Bit Rate Encoding (VBR): This setting varies the number of bits used to store the music depending on the complexity of the music. This can help keep file size to a minimum.
Sample Rate: The number of times per second that the music waveforms are captured digitally. The higher the sample rate, the higher the quality and the larger the file size. Don't choose a sample rate higher than the rate used originally to store the music or you'll waste space. CD quality, for example, is 44.100 kHz, so choosing a higher rate when you're encoding from a CD is unnecessary. In general, the best choice is Auto, which uses the same rate as the original music.
Channels: If you don't have stereo speakers or if your audio files are monaural, choose.Mono (mono files are about half the size of stereo files). If you'll be listening to your MP3 files using your stereo system, choose Stereo or Auto. Auto converts tracks that are already monaural into mono MP3 files, and stereo tracks into stereo MP3 files.
Stereo Mode: In Normal mode, your MP3 files contain one track for the right stereo channel and one track for the left. In many cases, the two channels contain related information. In Joint Stereo mode, one channel carries the information that's identical on both channels, and the other channel carries the unique information. At bit rates of 160 Kbps and below, this can improve the sound quality of your converted audio.
Smart Encoding Adjustments: Select to have iTunes analyze your encoding settings and music source, and then adjust settings to maximize quality.
Filter Frequencies Below 10 Hz: Filtering inaudible frequencies results in smaller, more efficient files without perceptible loss of quality.
And... post your query in the iTunes forum here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
    Importing songs from the Internet
You can add audio files that you find on the Internet to your iTunes library.
Important: Don't steal music. Some websites require you to register before you can play or download files.
To download a song from a website into iTunes:
    Open iTunes.
When you find an audio file you want on a website, click the file to download it to your computer.
Drag the file to the iTunes window.
Some websites permit you to download the actual audio file. On other websites, the download is a link (the URL) to the audio file; when you play it, iTunes finds the song on the Internet and "streams" it live to your computer. This kind of file displays a broadcast symbol (shown above) next to the song in iTunes.
When you buy songs from the iTunes Store, the files are downloaded to your hard disk and automatically added to your iTunes library.

  • IOS: (not) playing sound from local file system - Error #2032

    Dear all,
I am working on an app where I want to (among others) play sound files from the local file system.
I have added a few mp3 files into my .ipa file.
With a small file browser in my app I can select any one of them which returns me a File object.
I then use this File object to do a URLRequest to load the sound:
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(file.nativePath);
    sound = new Sound();
    sound.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, soundLoadError);
    sound.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, soundLoaded);
    sound.load(req);
It works in flash, but fails on the iPAD. Everytime I try to load, I get a IOErrorEvent with error code Error #2032
When I replace new URLRequest(file.nativePath) with URLRequest("http://.../testfile.mp3"), everything works fine!
    Any help appreciated.
Is this a matter of Security settings? Can I change those?
Something to do with Sandboxing (whatever that is)?
or something to do with cross-domain access?
I have been looking around for days now and any help would be appreciated!
    I am using Flash CS5.5 & AIR 2.7
    Thanks, Marcus.

    Hi Sanika,
this was something closer to that paragraph for "nativePath":
Some Flex APIs, such as the source property of the SWFLoader class, use a URL (the url property of a File object), not a native path (the nativePath property).
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/filesystem/File.h tml#nativePath
but that is not exactly what I've read (maybe that was A-blog or post on someone from A-team on his personal blog or post on stackoverflow).
(myself I'm using and providing solutions for paths using FILE protocol - file URI schemes - mostly whenever I can and where it is supported)
    regards,
    Peter

  • Create an audiobook from MP3 files?

    Hi all,
I've just bought a couple of Audiobooks from Buzzymedia. These come on a CD as multiple MP3 files.
Is there any way to turn these into one or two audiobooks rather than loads of mp3 files that I have to sync and make sure are played in the right order ?

Thanks, but that's not going to solve this for me I'm afraid.
The CD's I've got just contain MP3s, so there's no way to rip them afresh. As for just joining the tracks, the appendix only deals with doing this with WAV files, and the only software it mentions is for Windows, which I don't have access to

  • Remove sound from mp4 file?

I want to remove all the sound from a video that is in mp4 format. How do I do this?

How to read each "word" in the input file?Well, you'll need to "tokenize" the file as your reading it in. Look at the API docs for java.io.StreamTokenizer and see if that's appropriate for your application. If not, you can simple read the data in character by character and have some logic that decides what is a word...

Google will help here. In case you're missing the keywords to search for: Those informations are stored in the so-called ID3-Tags in the MP3 files.

  • How do I create custom ringtones from mp3 files in itunes 11?

I've upgraded to the iPhone 5 from Blackberry, and I have several custom mp3 ringtones I would like to assign... and can't.  How do I do this in iTunes 11?

You would have sorted it out by now.
    Anyway,
    1. Go to EDIT =>REFFERENCE
    2. Under General, tick TONES, then you will be able to see TONES folder...
To create ring tone from mp3.
    1. Make sure your mp3 file playback duration is about 30 sec or less.
    2. Add it to your library as you do with music.
    3. Under MUSIC folder, select SONGS
    4. Find the mp3 file you want for ringtone, right click it and find CREATE AAC VERSION
    5. OPEN window explorer, browse to MY DOCUMENTS/MY MUSICS (XP) or Library/my music (Win 7), there should be iTunes folder in there, find the mp3 file... and change the file extension from [.m4a] into [.m4r]
    6. Back to iTunes, add [filename.m4r]
Now you should have rinetone under TONES folder in  your iTunes.

  • Creating Audiobooks with Chapter Divisions from MP3 files.

I can create a plain old audiobook file from mp3's using this program...
    http://www.freeipodsoftware.com/
I have several unabridged books that have one 15-20 min mp3 file per chapter. I have heard that i want to keep audiobook file sizes below 320MB for stability reasons, so i've been breaking up the audiobooks to have 8-15 chapters per file, which yields about 5 audiobook files per book. My problem is that sometimes i want to skip a whole chapter. The program i listed above doesn't have the capability to insert chapter bookmarks/divisions.
Can someone please provide instructions or a link that shows how to take mp3 files that have 1 chapter per file, and turn them into audiobook files that have the appropriate file size for stability/quality and chapter divisions/bookmarks that i can skip to within each file?

That is used to Import from CD and also works when converting songs in iTunes.
You can convert directly when adding songs to iTunes.
If you look under the Advanced menu, there is an option to Create AAC {or whatever is set in Import settings}. This is used (as mentioned above) when converting songs in iTunes.
If you hold {Option on a Mac, not sure what it is on Windows - maybe alt}, you can select it and then select a file/folder on the HD.
This will import the songs into the library and convert them directly to the selected format. This is instead of adding the files, then converting them then deleting the original file.
Since each mp3 is a chapter, can iTunes combine multiple files/chapters into a single larger file?
No. As I noted above, I do not know of any Windows programs to do this. There are a few available for Mac.

  • Extract Metadata from Mp3 file

Can anybody help me figure out how to read the metadata of an
mp3 file? I can't find anything anywhere on how to do it. I am
assuming it can easily be done by utilizing a Java Object but my
java skills are very novice and I am struggling with trying to
understand how to use the API in the first place....from what I can
see there doesn't seem to be one that exists...I did find this
class "javax.imageio.metadata.IIOMetadata"...not that I could make
that work either. Any help would be much appreciated.

Search for "CFXID3" in ColdFusion Exchange.
Haven't tested it, though, and yes, I would be searching for
mp3 Java libraries too, but if you're unfamiliar with Java, give
    that a try.

  • Edit/Delete Popping Sound from Voice File

Hello.  I'm trying to remove a popping sound from a voice file that I extracted from iMovie and imported into Garage Band.  I am struggling to figure out how to do this.  Any help is appreciated.  I feel it should be simple and I'm just overlooking something, but I can't seem to figure it out.  Thanks

You don't specify what the popping sound is. If it's an isolated sound, it's easy just to cut it out. If it's something like a plosive, like the p in the beginning of a word, it's a little harder. Anyway, double-click the audio region that it's in so it opens in the Editor window, set the magnification very high and find the pop. Cut to the left and right of it with cmd-t and delete the annoying bit.

  • No sound from m4v files after update to IOS 5.1

    Hello
After updating my AppleTV3 to IOS 5.1 there is no sound from mine .M4V files.
MP4 plays just fine. My apple TV is connected to LAN, and uses HDMI through my receiver.
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Bought a new ATV3 and updated software.  Gives me picture, but no sound when I play movie trailers on the Apple service.  Also, no sound when I play purchased movies.  These same trailers and movies play through my ATV1.  Installed my new HDMI cable on the ATV1.  No change.
I'm not interested in plugging directly into the TV.  As I use an HDMI switch, the ATV3 follows the same path through the receiver.
Right now the thing is just a paper weight.  Doesn't give me sound when mirroring from my iPad which was my reason for buying it.

  • No sound from mpg files?

    hey there--
So, for better or worse, I used the "transfer from old mac to new mac" option during my MacBook initial installation. Great idea, but perhaps not when going from PPC to Intel..I have quite a few things that just don't work with the Intel chips, including screensavers and system preferences.
While I understand that Flip4Mac doesn't work yet when I use quicktime to deal with .mpg files, I get no sound whatsoever. Everything else works fine.
    Anyone else seeing this
    thanks,
    mike

The Flip4Mac codec is for Windows Media format content, not MPEG.
If you're trying to import MPG files into QuickTime for editing, you have to demultiplex them first. QT cannot edit or export a multiplexed MPEG. Try one of the following utilities:
    http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html
    http://www.mpeg2works.2ya.com/
    http://www.biermann.org/philipp/mpegcut/
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/macbbdemux
http://diva.3ivx.com (may not extract the audio)
    Hope this helps.
