Screeching/Echoing noise on HP ProBook

I recently noticed that I have a constant screech/echo type noise - sort of like insane tinnitus - coming from the audio on my laptop. It's barely a year old and had been problematic in many ways already, unfortunately, however, this is causing severe distress.
Iv'e tried a safe boot to no avail and the drivers are allegedly up to date and working properly.
HAving the sound volume very low does stop it from being unbearable, but once volume goes up above 50% it gets worse until it is basically all you can hear.
I don't want to have to mute my laptop forever but am at a loss at how to solve this. I figure it needs a new soundcard or something but I've no idea how to go about changing it.

So, I guess I'm screwed then? Just going to have to live with it? Great.

  • Changing Pitch in Garage Band without Echo/Noise

Hi, I am making an audio recording in Garage Band.  Just a voice over for a spec TVC.  I am using an Audio Technica USB mic to narrate.  I would like to change the pitch of my voice to -40 cents, but I am finding it turns it very echoy and adds a bit of a humming noise to certain words.  Any help, greatly appreciated, thanks!

Garageband has to do all its effects on the fly, while playing back the track. To achieve a better effect, you might take your recording to an audio editor like Audacity, apply the pitch change there, and re-import the altered audio into GB.

  • Speakeres make a scratchy echo noise.

    Hello
I recently purcahsed a brand new imac, and i noticed that when i play sound there is a scratchy echo noice so to it. Please note that these are seperate sounds and when im in Safari or Word it is not present. ITs just when i put music on or game that has sound. If i crank the volume up it seems to disappear but at the volume i like it is present and it is veryannoying. After having a very troubled imac in the past (3 weeks in repair) and 5 dead pixels and getting another imac that is faulty, i am not a happy camper. Also i did get 1 random shutdown. Maybe that was beacuse the imac was hot, the top of the case felt scorching hot.
    Well thanks in advanced:
    Imac 20 inch
    2.4 Ghz

No im certain it is not from the game becuase when i open a APP that requires sound it will do it with all games and all apps that require sound.

  • Screeching sound from Mac Mini

    hello,
ok for a while know there has been a screeching sound emitted from my mac mini. Its like a high pitched squeak, the only way I can describe it is that its like something metal not oiled.
Getting worried about it as I dont know if its a warning of something to go wrong. Fan/harddrive failure?. My warranty is up in 30 days or less.
I've recorded the sound on Amadeus Pro and amplified it a bit. (noise cancelling microphone cut it out)
Wanted to be able to post it on the net somehow and have a link here, but I can mail it to anyone.
    Any help apreciated.
    David

I was so much thinking about when the noise starts, as to whether you hear any change in it if the noise is already happening and the fan changes speed. I would normally expect a 'screeching' type noise to be fan related, and thus that is would change in pitch or intensity - or even stop or start - if the fan changes speed.
It should be covered by warranty unless you've done anything to your mini to void the warranty of course. Whether fan or hard drive, a noise of that sort is indicative of a fault, potentially impending failure, and both components are covered.
It is certainly likely to get worse over time if not resolved - a bearing making this sort of noise is running dry, off center or damaged, and in any of those instances it increases the risk of failure and will bring the onset of that failure nearer.
Also would somebody be able to identify what it is from listening to it.
In many instances yes, but it isn't certain to be possible, nor is it as good a method of diagnosis as having the actual system. In addition, given the impending end of your warranty period, it wouldn't seem a good idea to delay getting the unit to a service center. The sooner they get it, the sooner you get it back!

  • X-FI platinum, huge problem please help. entertainment mode distortion, screeching Vista 32

My x-fi platinum just out of the blue stopped working. When it was working it still had problems of not being detected by the computer till i restarted it several times. Now when i play any kind of sound when its on it plays distorted screeching sounds or just completly stops, this is in Entertainment mode. now when i switch to audio creation or game mode. It plays fine for a bit, and then screeching, static noises start playing. It use to work fine on entertainment mode but for some reason everything has halted. I play my music/sounds through a external receivor which my sound card is connected to. I think it might have something to do with a spdif output problem, but im still not sure. I tried unplugging my other pci cards other then my cga and i still have the problem. I dont know if some setting in the bios was disabled or enabled or what as im pulling my hair out over this issue.Message Edited by plokkr23 on 2-04-20070:02 AM

im getting something similar. Can you check your Sound Control panel and tell me - when the distortion is most evident - if microphone is MUTED or Not. I have NO SOUND issues when Microphone is muted, but when it isn't - whether the microphone is plugging in or not - i have tons of distortion. It began out of no where, within the last 3 days.
I've found minor temp fixes that don't fix the problem and I wish i knew a long term one, or even what the hell caused it.

  • In Adobe Elements, how do I get rid of background noise in my audio?

I just bought a USB microphone to help with my narrations on adobe elements. How do i get rid of the feedback and the echoing noises in the background of my audio?

    supersam9
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Classically USB microphones do not work with Premiere Elements (any version) for use with its Narration Tool. Have you found otherwise?
Where is the noise - in narration clips produced by the Narration Tool or from imported audio files added to numbered Audio Tracks and/or soundtrack?
From what you wrote, it appears that the audio noises are confined to the narration being produced with your microphone and Premiere Elements Narration Tool. Is that correct?
Under fx Effects there are audio effects that you can explore to reduce noise. See Reference Effects Adobe document for a description of the fx Effects audio effects.
Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Effects reference
If you use the same microphone and create your narration in Audacity and import that narration into a Premiere Elements project, do you get noise in your narration?
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
Besides making sure that your microphone is compatible with Premiere Elements, have you evaluated your narration recording techniques...how close are you to the microphone, room noise level while recording, etc.

  • Loud blast of extreme defening noise during project

Please help, my ears are still ringing and I am scared to use Logic after 3 times i have been blasted by an insanely loud screech of noise. I dont understand why this is happening. All my plugins are up to date and logic is on 10.7. The project is small and never had this issue before. I have the new apple earbuds and when I unplug them durning the noise it goes away. I was slightly low on HD space so maybe that did it?

That link seems to point to a search on white noise blast and i couldn’t find the threads on it. Whatever it is I guess its back now. I am on latest mavericks macbook pro retina 2012 512 ssd. 8gb memory.
I can switch headphones tonight and test. I doubt its mic or it would be consistent. This is intermittent.
The thread seems to have disappeared.. I do know there was talk of legal recourse as some people felt they had been injured by the volume of the noise.

  • Odd buzzing noise when on BOTH AC & Battery

My PowerBook has a strange "buzz" that sounds like white noise (or crickets, like my old G5 used to) when it is plugged into the adapter AND with the battery in. When the notebook is on just battery or just AC power, there is no noise.
    What is my problem?

Hi, I had the same problem, at least symptoms. Changing energy usage to low worked fine, but I use graphic intensive software so I need the high performance output. I posted the below information on a separate article as well, but I wanted to share it in case anyone has the same problem and wants a possible better fix.
    --- previously posted---
I recently had a loud screeching buzzing noise, not the very faint hard drive or fan sound, but a loud annoying sound. After searching hours online, I found an answer for the problem. (in my case at least)
If you have any speakers plugged into the same energy source (i.e. powerstrip), that may be the problem. I unplugged a set of Sony speakers I had running along the same chain of AC powerstrip outlets, and the noise was gone. The article I found was here: (look for the post by "ST" about midway down this page:

  • Iphone 4g making weird noise

every time i turn off my iphone it makes a weird echo noise. it did make the noise when i got it. it just started recently. not sure what cause or how to make it stop.

Sorry no one responded, but unless we either can hear what you're hearing or you give more information, no one will be able to diagnose the problem. If you are near an Apple Store, I'd really recommend you make a Genius Bar appointment and let Apple figure out what the noise is.

  • Internal Microphone White Noise

I have a Satellite E45-B4200 laptop and it has served me well for the last 4 months with no issue. Unfortunately it has one FATAL design flaw. If I plug in my Sony headphones into the headphone jack it RUINS the internal Micophone. This happened before and it made the mic record everything and enything and echo it back at me. I resolved it... dont remember how and here we are again. This time when I record my voice on such programs as skype it has an intense white noise ethat completely covers up my voice and requires a strong yelling just to get the message through. Please help. I will provide as much detail as needed to resolve this.

It makes two of us. This issue is driving me crazy! I tried:updating the driversrestoring default mic settingenable/disable echo, noise cancellationtry different mic quality setting (sampling rates) Nothing seems to work. The internal microphone makes this anoying white noise all the time. I can't use Skype nor Cortana without pluging in a headset, which definetively kills the purpose. If I can't find a solution to this, my next replacement won't be a Toshiba laptop, that's for sure.

  • Ichat loud hissing noise

I was chatting this evening on a latest version MacBook with another user who has the same setup. I was in Barrie and the other person in Toronto. Both of us were complaining about a terrible hissing sound during the chat. I have never had a problem with a sound like this when playing music or watching a clip from the net on the MacBook. Any suggestions why this loud screeching hissing noise exists and how to get rid of it?

I'm experiencing the exact same problem (though I'm not hearing a hissing, more like, as my brother-in-law described it, the sound of someone breaking wine glasses continually). I tried the iChat for this first time this evening with my brother-in-law, sister and their daughter, and we were getting a pretty horrible feedback noise. While it may work as a solution, using external speakers and/or microphones would seem to be counter to the whole idea of using a laptop. It shouldn't be necessary to lug such things around with you just to get good sound quality in the iChat. Headphones (another possible solution I read about) are impractical if you're having a conversation with more than one person at the other end.
I'll check out the "Volume" settings in System Preferences and see if that helps things, however.
    Now, the video was great!

  • Trouble restoring/formatting hard drive.

I maybe did this wrong, so let preface with that but from my basic experience reading on the forums about how to do everything.
So let's start from the beginning.
Been having issues with what I believe to be a hard drive issue, been hearing screeching/scratching noises coming from my computer, and computer was constantly crashing when I tried to load heavy-duty cpu applications (i.e. Live or PS etc.) and then recently it was crashing when I would do certain things on firefox like load large video files or even attempt to use like VLC or Stuffit. Low CPU intensive things. So then it seemed to me as if it were a disk permission errors, repaired disk multiple multiple times, I once got an error that said something to the effect that disk was beyond repair.
Anyways. So I came to the conclusion that the hard drive was the source of my issues, so I thought maybe a wipe and reinstall would at least be helpful. So I begin by using my TimeMachine backup to create a recent restore point and upload some of my most important files to online storage. Now let's think of from here on out in steps.
    1. I started my mac up in recovery mode and and then first tried a basic reinstall of the OS X and while it did take forever it did not really fix my problem of the crashing so, problem still there!
    2. I started my mac up in recovery mode for the 2nd time, and I began the restoration.
This is where I may have taken a wrong step. [Never really done this before]
    3. First I erased the internal hard drive.
    4. I used the restore tab and chose to restore from the backup drive and put the image on the now erased internal hard drive. While this did also take forever, it seemingly did work.
Now my problem is I can't boot from this hard drive now nor can I erase it and try over. I am kind of stuck in a bad limbo. I am using the safari client from the recovery mode.
The error I get when I try to erase the original HD says that it cannot be unmounted, when I try to do the restore from time machine backup it says something like bad pipe. I am contemplating ordering a new hard drive but I was wondering if there was anyway of salvaging this one because from what I can tell it's basically bricked and is useless at this point. Would really love some help here as my laptop is basically a huge part of my everyday life as I spent $2500 dollars initially for it, and I wish I was more adept at macs but they are very unique and the error reports are not as simple as PC's.
Thanks for any help or consideration

You can't restore a Time Machine backup by using Disk Utility. Doing this, you will restore all the backups you have, keeping the Time Machine structure, so you just have turned your internal hard drive onto a Time Machine drive.
It looks like your problem is that you are trying to erase the whole hard drive while you are using it, and this can't be done if you have started in Recovery HD. Simply close Disk Utility, select the option to restore a Time Machine backup and follow its steps, but it will probably not do anything.
In your case, you should get a new hard drive, as the one you have looks like it's failing

  • Sudden, freaky speaker feedback and weird sound?

I have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo 15" MacBook Pro with 2 GB memory, running 10.6.7.
I record a lot of voiceover on this machine via Sound Studio and Audacity (and sometimes Garage Band) and a USB microphone to use in Keynote videos and presentations.
Everything has been working perfectly until all of the sudden, when I open any music related program or plug in a USB microphone the computer makes a loud freaky feedback echo noise. Almost like you hear at a concert when they get too close to the speakers. You can only hear it if the computer volume is in the middle or higher and it does get louder or softer with the by increasing or decreasing the volume.
Now, I thought this was a problem with one of the music related programs (Sound Studio, Audacity, Garage Band) since it only seemed to happen when they are open....
But, yesterday I was closing the laptop with NO programs open at all and RIGHT BEFORE the lid closed and the computer when to sleep, the speakers made the sound. Again with NOTHING open or running.
So I'm at a loss. The sound is now occurring randomly. Do I have bad speakers or something else going on?
Any thoughts or help is GREATLY appreciated.

Yeah I had tried that before, no dice on that though. Thank you anyway.
I actually have seemed to have fixed the problem! I muted Stereo Mix in recording control.
