Screen and GPS issues on iPhone 5

We received a certified iPhone 5 back in March '14 and the touchscreen constantly "acts up" either becoming nonresponsive or phantom typing even after a new iOS upgrade and multiple soft and hard resets.  Also, the GPS, when activating maps or an app like Map My Run needs to be calibrated every single time the app is started.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you fellow iPhoners and Verizon!!

I am so sorry to hear that your are having issues with your iPhone. By certified do you mean the device was purchased as a certified pre-owned device or was this a replacement device? Does the device have any physical or water damage? Was there an app or software update processed around the time these issues began?

    No there isn't. If you check iCloud, you are not showing any backups at all? Did you have the phone set to sync contacts in iCloud, or were you just backing up to iCloud? If you were just backing up, then you should be able to access the backup, but if you were not syncing, then you probably cannot see the contacts in iCloud. You would have to wait until you restore from the backup to see them. You will probably have to go onto the iCloud website to erase and remove the device from Find My iPhone if you want to clear it off.

  • IPhone 5: Blue Screen and Restarting Issue

    I have an iPhone 5 and am running iOS 7.0.04.  Just a few days ago my phone has had the following issues:
    1)  Phone randomly restarts
    2)  While using the phone, system will crash and the result is the Blue Screen of death.  Only way to get out of this crash is to do a manual restart
    3) While using phone, screen will start flickering, lines will appear on screen and I will either get a Blue Screen or a White Screen.
    I have done the following to date:
    1) Backed up Phone and synced/restored from my Computer
    2) Erased all settings and restored from iCloud Backup
    My phone is out of warranty and I think if I take it back to the Apple Store they will tell me I'm SOL.
    Just wanted to know if people think this is a Hardware or Software issue.

    I have a white iPhone 5 running on the latest IOS 7.0.4 and I am having a similar problem. I have had my phone for about 6 months now and have had it always well protected in a sturdy case similar to an otter box case. I have had no problems with the phone until 2 nights ago.
    While on the messaging app "kik" My phone froze up, vertical pixalated lines appeared,it faded into a black screen, shut down and automatically turned on again. It repeated this "glitch" while powering back up about 3 times. Finally after having to manually restart it by pressing the power and home button for 5-6 seconds it stop.
    After going back to using my phone, not 5 mins past, and it was "glitching" up again. In the past 48 hours it has glitch over 26+ times. Everytime I need to use my phone for more then 5 mins I need to manually reset it.
    If you have found a solution to your problem, please post it because it could possibly solve mine.

  • Blue screen and volume issue

    Need some help here. (hope Im in the right place)
    Im getting the blue screen and spinning wheel at shutdown, computer wont turn off.
    I run Techtool Deluxe and my Volume Structure fails (passes surface scan).
    Disk Utility says volume is fine......
    Im sure an erase and install would do the trick but I would really like to know more about what the issue is, how it happened, and how to avoid it in the future. As well as if its fixable without a clean install.
    Just getting into the tech side of life so any direction on troubleshooting this issue would be much appreciated.

  • NB200-125 General Hardware ( Screen and HD ) issues

    Hi All,
    My wife's NB200-125 is about 18 months old and has in the last few weeks be exhibiting some strange problems. It started out with a boot failier where windows XP failed to boot, having tried to boot in both normal mode and safe mode a few times I tried plugging it in to make sure it wasn't a battery issue, plugging it in helped and I managed to get it booted and ran chkdisk which found a bunch of Hard drive errors which it fixed and it's now booting ok, a few files were lost but that could just be chkdisk deleting HD sectors.
    Now in the last 2 days there have been 2 occasions where the screen has gone "blank" firstly to a black screen, and then the second time to a green screen.
    Does anyone have any pointers as to where to look to fix it? I thought a HD change would sort it until these screen errors.
    Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Of course these problems can be hardware related but before you ask an authorized service provider you should try a recovery installation to factory settings. Maybe Windows was muddled up due to the previous issues so a reinstallation would help.
    So take the recovery medium and boot from it. Follow the screen instructions and restore out of box settings.
    If still doesnt help its really hardware related issue and it can be fixed from an authorized service provider.

  • Video and GPS data from iPhone movie?

    Hi, I have following problem/ idea for a solution: I lost the canopy of by model airplane during a flight in a wheat field. Now I am looking for a solution to find it: what about a video camera and a GPS device, flying over the field, recording video and GPS data, play back video and (hopefully) find the canopy at frame xyz. Then read out the GPS position at this frame and go back in the field to the GPS coordinates and find what I lost.
    So the questions are:
    1. are the Video recordings stamped (?) with a continuous GPS position
    2. can this data be read out
    3. is there an app that can do this
    4. is this the correct forum for this question?

    Let me get this straight... You lost the canopy for your model airplane... Now you want to strap your iPhone to another model airplane and fly it all over in the area where you lost the canopy.
    Piece of advice: Make sure you set up find my iPhone on it before you send it out on its mission. you may need it, in combination with its ability to emit an alarm when triggered remotely, to find the iPhone after it falls off the search plane.
    With luck, the fallen iPhone will land near the canopy you seek.
    To try and answer the questions:
    1. I believe the entire recording gets 1 location coded in the metadata. It is not a continuous stream of location data.
    2. Not relevant based on the answer to 1.
    3. I seriously doubt it, but I won't be shocked if someone has come up with something among the half million or so apps out there.
    4. I don't think there is a correct forum for this, but this works as well as any.

  • No or bad Bluetooth and GPS with my iPhone 3GS.

    Hi all,
    I have serious Problems using either GPS and Bluetooth with my iPhone 3GS. First I recognized that my Bluetooth headset was not working as before. For example the connection is dropped quite often and The quality is really bad.
    Second I found that the GPS signal is such Bad that no APP like runkeeper or Nike+ can work with it.
    Strange is that everything is working well after a reset to factory defaults using iTunes. But both BT and GPS are only working As designed for about 12 to 18 houers. After that timeframe The Device has to Be reseted with iTunes again :-(
    Snce everything was working fine a few weeks ago, I guess it has to do somezhing with the latest firmeware.
    BTW: The headset IS working fine with other devices and the googlemaps app, included in the iOS is showing a GPS signal (20 to 50 m radius)

  • Black screen and applications problem on iPhone 4S after upgrading to iOS6

    I've upgraded my iphone 4s to the iOS6, all the applications suddenly stops while I am working on it, then the phone shows a black screen and after some seconds shows the main menu screen. When I open the application again after that, things I was doing were lost. Even if I am making a call, the black screen appears, the call is muted to me for a while until when the phone shows me the main screen again and I have to tap to the call. If I am playing music, suddenly the phone shows the black screen and stops the playback, after of it, I try to recover my playback but there is no playback. And happens with everything: facebook, mails, sms, maps, among others. When I was using the iOS 5.1.1. phone was working well.

    i looked on the right there is no solution to my problem.i charge my phone to 100% after 2 hours with no usage at all of the phone with 3G off with wifi off with all applications shut down all notifications and locations off battery goes down to 50% when it was running on the older ios never had this problem in my iphone.when will this problem solved

  • Screen protector signal issues for iPhone 4?

    I've been having the same problem with my iPhone 4 for a while now. The phone is perfect otherwise but on most occasions while using the phone i've been experienceing a loud crackling noise when making noise when making/recieving calls or no sound at all (no ringing and can't hear the other person speaking) however the speakers/mic work fine..
    I've had a matte screen protector on the front of my iPhone ever since i've started using it and just recentley removed it and the phone is working perfect with the crackling/no sound problem gone! I have perfect clairity when making calls!
    I was just wondwering is this possible that the screen protector could have caused this? To me I believe it has as the issue is now gone but my family don't think this is the case as it doesn't sound very likely a piece of plastic could do this?
    Also if anyone could suggest a screen protector that could help prevent this from happening again I'd be very greatful. I think I might have to trial and error but some suggestions on where to start would be appreciated! My previous protector that I believe caused me this problem was the Power support HD anti-glare film ser for iPhone 4

    It's hard to believe a screen protector can cause such a problem, I still think it's tricky to blame the problem on your screen protector.
    Maybe you could try some super thin screen protector and see if the same problem  would happen again. If it does, then it's definitely something wrong with your iphone.

  • Updating and syncing issues from iPhone to iPad

    I have two issues.  I just got new iPhone and after creating an iCloud account all my contacts will only appears numbers on my phone (no names attached to the contacts) and now that updated my iPad to io5 nothing will sync with my iPhone. I checked my settings and wifi is on as well as photo stream is on.  I'm so confused!

    Assuming you are using the same AppleId on both devices (Settings App > iTunes & App stores), you should be able to open the itunes app, select Purchased from the lower menu and download any items you have purchased on the account.

  • Touch Screen and Charge Issue

    Hey everyone, first time here but also registered at precentral
    Asked there, but I'm hoping here would be a better place to voice this issue.
    This is my 2nd New Pre I had as the first one had random keyboard loss when my phone died due to battery. I was able to fix it with a 5th batt pull, but I wasn't chancing it..so swiped it.
    Well, got my phone with 1.2.x out of the box and tested fine at the store. When home and updated to 1.3.1. weeks later the issue.
    touch would random stop working...I had preware so I decided maybe it was a patch or app messing it up (I noticed I didn't have message foward working after update)
    So I Doctored it. The Process went nervously fine, up until I got to the home screen. The Touch went out again!
    But after messing around a bit after getting it back after a battery pull (at the time touch comes and goes) I was easily able to recreate the issue.
    For example:
    Touch = dead, once I plug it into a charger (usb/wall), Touch returns.
    Touch = alive, (after it came back during day) Once I Plug in to charge, Touch gone.
    There was a point that touch wouldn't return if I had the phone slider closed, with screen unlocked. Wether I was plugging it in or removing to charger.
    I hope this makes sense, and really hope its not hardware, as I don't wanna return phone to find out it repeats on a new/refurb one. As this one feels solid in every other dept.
    Q's Did palm change how the phone locks..reacts to charger??

    ok, I left work today. in the elevator down to my car i started pandora, bluetooth. Got in the car, docked the phone, plugged in the aux wire to my radio, charger to the phone. Music, couple of calls, music agian, skipped some songs, changed pandora stations, etc...
    Got home, undocked the phone, unplugged aux cable and charger, close pandora, turn off the light. Grab my stuff, phone rings can not answer it. Screen now does not work anymore.
    Pull the battery twice, no luck. Do some searching and see some post that it is realated to the battery connection and a post that other have got it to work with the charger plugged in.
    I take the USB cable, PC to phone and it starts working!! yeah... mess with that batter and no luck. stops working again. unplug the USB from the PC and it is still working. Uplug the USB from the phone, stops working, plug it back in to the phone, not the PC and the screen works again... not really sure what that is about. now it is working with no wire.

  • Broken screen and software issue

    Recently dropped my iPhone 5 and the screen is cracked.
    It had a pre existing problem in which I could not always hear people on the phone and had to put it on speakerphone just to speak to people.
    Since dropping it, the lock button has also started playing up.
    I don't want apple to fix the screen because the phone still won't be working properly and I won't be able to hear people...still.
    I've got a feeling they'll blame it all on the fact that I've dropped the phone, which is not the case.
    Any suggestions?

    Your warranty with Apple is void since you dropped it regardless of any pre-existing problems that would have been covered under warranty, so what you do now is up to you.
    You can find a 3rd party to repair your phone
    You can purchase an out of warranty replacement for $229
    You can buy another phone
    You can do nothing.
    Choice is yours.

  • HT6146 Doed this update also address the GPS issues on iPhone 3GS?

    With IOS6.X (and all other 3GS users) I lost the FULL GPS function I had when I purchased my iPhone 3GS (I assume its behaviour is like an iPod touch now), I was wondering if Apple have included a fix with this update?

    I had two users that were unable to get email from Microsoft Exchange 2003 on their iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4. One other user, however, had no problems after the upgrade. The only difference was that the user with his email functioning had minimal messages in his Inbox.
    So for the two other users, I archived email messages to reduce their Inboxes from around 13,000 messages to below 2,500 messages. Once I did this, email started flowing through just fine. I did this to the Sent Items as well, and it worked too. I would give that a try.

    Got a dock for Xmas and was thinking I'd replace my bed side clock with my iPhone in the dock and a good clock app
    only thing worrying me is how suseptable is the iPhone screen to burning will it damage my screen if I leave a clock lit all night?

    I beg to differ they do my works monitor has log in burnt into the LCD screen which I was asking how robust the iPhone screen was
