Screen auto-dimming when I hit delete

I bought a 17" macbook pro for school three weeks ago. It is 2.5ghz, 4gigs of ram, 250gb hd and the high res scree. I upgraded from a 17" powerbook g4.
One thing I have noticed that really bugs me is that when I hit the delete key the display will dim as if I where to turn out the lights and it will light back up when I take my hand away. I only hit the delete key for just a second and it does this. It is quite annoying that I never had a issue with on the powerbook. I assume the light sensor is right around there but it would seem that apple would make it so it would take longer then a second of darkness to dim the screen.
I am sure someone else has had this issue as well.
Thanks,
-rob

Annoyingly, this feature re-enabled itself when I upgraded to 10.5.5 recently.
Re-disabling it was a bit of a pain, because searching for "dimming display" in System Preferences brought up Energy Saver prefs, but did not find this setting -- Google came to my rescue, of course.

  • Screen Auto-Dims, when Auto-Dim is Off

I did the SL upgrade a few days ago on my 2008 MBP, I did a clean install. And now I've been noticing my screen will dim a few ticks from full brightness by itself while I'm working. My power is plugged in and I have made sure auto-diming is set off. ONce it dims I have to hit F2 to bring it back full. I never had this issue with 10.5

When does this occur? There is another option in the Energy Saver settings that will dim the display before it goes to sleep, but that doesn't sound like the problem you're having. Just thought I'd throw that out there as a possibility.

  • No trash folder in mail, when I hit delete it says unable to find trash

Ok, new Ipad2 version one (no camera).  I use Imap to a hosted website I own.  It retrieves and sends mail flawlessly, HOWEVER.  There are no other mail boxes there, only the inbox.  No drafts, trash, sent, etc.  When I hit delete, it moves to the trash can, then a box appears saying it was unale to delte message, click ok.  How do I create or "find" the other mailboxes?  I apologise for my ignorance, I have never used a Mac before.  I love the Ipad, this so far is my only issue (other than finding out I had no camera).
Thanks again, special thanks to King Penguin.  Good on ya!

Check the settings in your Mail preferences.
Mailbox Behaviour and see how that is set.
Still, the Trash Icon should still be there. You may have to delete your plist to get it back.

when I use Adobe Send the screen goes dark when I hit send but never seems to complete the send task! and recover the screen?F

    Hi frank at luray,
Does this issue occur with any file that you try to send, or do you find that it's specific to one file? If it's a file-specific error, and the file is large, please try sending the file via Adobe SendNow. (You can sign in to Adobe SendNow at Sign in or create an account | Adobe SendNow using the same credentials you use to sign in to Adobe Send.)
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • Screen goes dim when processor working - even when plugged to mains power.

Screen goes dim when processor working - even when plugged to mains power.
Whether I'm running 3D software or just surfing the net, the screen keeping fading/dimming and then recovering over a few seconds. No USB devices connected, mains power on - NOT IMPRESSED!
Any ideas - a hardware problem? Back to Mac?

If you go to System Preferences > Energy Saver, the is a checkbox under the "options" tab that says, "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep." On my new MBP (10.5.1), this was "on" by default. Try unchecking it and see if it helps.

  • No content aware fill when I hit "delete"

This was working fine for me in the trial, but now that I've entered my serial number, I'm not getting an option for content aware fill when I hit "delete."  Have I changed something without realizing it?  I can't find what I might be doing wrong/differently.

    Oh, nevermind.  Shift.  Foolish.

  • PS VITA Screen Auto Dimming

I was considering buying a Vita but I've heard from a lot of people that the screen automaticaly dims if you don't press anything for a while, and that this can't be turned off. Although most of these reports seem to come from people who normaly have their brightness cranked all the way up. So my question is does the screen auto dim if you have the brightness set at say fifty percent? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes the screen will still dim, BTW this is to save battery and prevent screen burning.

  • IMac 21.5" Screen 'flutter' when screen auto dims'

Hi, I have a brand new 21.5" i7 with 8GB Ram. I noticed the other day that when the screen dimmed the whole panel seems to flutter, I also noticed that auto dimming never dims below a certain point and remains really bright, even in a dark room, yet my friends snow leopard variant has none of these issues and dims all the way down. I didn't want to keep a machine that's just over a week old if its defective but are these lion bugs or is it hardware? I was wondering if anyone with Lion is having similar issues, My machine was not an upgrade but came with 10.7 installed.

It's out of Applecare/warranty by a couple of months and I cant afford to pay for it myself, any point in taking it to apple?

  • Screen auto dims and after about one second, it sleeps. If you try to catch it and undid the screen during this time, it freezes and you have to hard reset.

If you leave the laptop untouched, it will auto dim the screen.
About one second after autodim, the screen will turn off.
If during that one second duration, you try to undim the screen (by touching the touchpad, for example), the laptop will freeze and the only way to turn it back on is by holding the power button.

    1. System Preferences > Energy Saver
        Press the "Restore Defaults" button.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Q10 screen auto dimming

    hi all,
please help me turn off the auto dim option for the screen.
i understand this may increase the battery consumption but i want my screen to be bright at all times.

    hi,
the autodim feature is now part of the way BB10 display work. They call it the "Garber Light Optimization". You can find more information here:

  • Why don't pictures delete when i hit delete

  • Screen keeps dimming when Tecra M5 on battery only

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 laptop and when i take out the mains charger the display dims to the lowest brightness and i have to manually brighten it every single time.
Is there a way to stop this?
I have been into power options in control panel and i cannot find anything in there to fix this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
In my case the Toshiba power saver is appears in control panel only.
I dont need to go to control panel -> Power Options.
But in control panel -> Power Options you have to check if the Toshiba power saver is chosen in Power Schemes.
Furthermore the Power Saver icon should be visible in taskbar.
If this will not help you, then I recommend installing the Toshiba power saver again.
For that download the power saver from Toshiba European driver page.
    Good luck

  • Screen always dim when resuming from sleep

I've got this problem where my MBP, after waking up from sleep does not revert its brightness settings. Instead, the brightness is always one bar after waking up from sleep, instead of six bars which is my default and I have to adjust my screen brightness again. Anyone having this problem?

Not a problem that is common. However, would suggest to check your system preference settings. Go to system preference>displays>click on display tab. At the bottom there is the brightness meter. You might want to set it here. Then also check the box for adjusting as ambient light changes.
After doing this, check again to see if brightness still defaults to one bar.

  • Screen auto-dims (after idle time)

Is there any way to turn off this 'feature'? It's very frustrating whenever I'm trying to watch a movie (say from nova online) or anything like that, I'd rather it be entirely in my control. (this is more than just environmental light detection, it's just randomly going dim after about 30 seconds of not being used.....very frustrating.

System Preferences>Energy saver>Sleep>Move the sliders to the right.
System Preferences>Energy Saver>Options>Uncheck the "Automatically Reduce Brightness" box.
System Preferences>Desktop & ScreenSaver>ScreenSaver>Move the slider to the right.
