Screen Back Light

Hi
My screen seems to be very dull and I want to know if/how you adjust his.
I'm very new to Apple Macbook's and i am unable to find where to adjust the backlighting on the screen ti make it brighter.
Please can anyone advise?
Many thanks

The f2 key should brighten the screen. If it doesn't, try holding the fn key while pushing F2.

  • Slate 21 Pro screen back light on when sleeping

Hi James_caI found out a couple of days ago that our service inventory had not yet been updated with the new Scalar FW revision.  I suspect that at some time you will experience the same issue...just a matter of when.  I'm sorry if I was not clear in my earlier instruction.  I should know more tomorrow about when our service inventory will be ready.  Rest assured that if you experience the issue again, the next replacement will be correct. Again, my apology for not communicating clearly.

I have Slate 21 Pro. It is awsome all in one desktop with Android system. However it has the problem with sleep mode. Say I press power button to put it into sleep mode. The light on the power button change to red from white. But at some point, could be a couple of minutes or one hour, the screen back light will turn on though the screen is still dark (nothing displays). And at this time, the light on the power button will become white. And the worst thing is it'll never go back to sleep mode once it is in this state. I used a Electric Meter to test the power comsuption. At running time (when I use it and power button light in white), it consumes aournd 26 watts. At sleep time(power button light in red), it comsumes around 5 watts. At the state of dark screen with back light on ( the problemmatic state I describe above), it comsume almost the same as running time around 24 watts. This is too bad for an Android device. Though I'm able to pay the bill, but why should we waste energy and money? I report the problem. HP sent me another one. But the same problem there. I guess it is caused by the latest OS update. HP really should fix this. Does anyone has this issue? I'm so supprised that no one report this issue.

  • Imac blank screen. back light on. imac shows on TV. bad LCD?

hello, I have imac 21.5 late 09 modle A1311. this piece of garbage was working til one day started up with blank screen. we did nothing to it no changing of any parts.nothing connected to this imac. I called apple and as always they were no help at all. I took it to iphone911 they said it could be LCD or LCD connector. I don't think they know what they are doing much like Apple. I hooked up the imac to the TV with HDMI and everything showed up and was able to use it with the TV full accsess. this imac powers up and the back light (dark blue) comes on ummm not the blue u see when mac starts bthis is backlight!! after started but no video at all. could the LCD be bad even tho backlight comes on? what could it be if it's not the LCD? I'm going to buy LCD if it's but I wan't to make sure this is the fix. I put it on CL but very low offers so I want to sell it and get windows and NEVER EVER again buy anything apple makes total garbage I'm so mad spending $1500+ with no support, now thinking I could bought 3 nice laptops with winds but live and learn.

oh thank god I sold this piece of crap called imac and bought new HP win 8. nothing ever will enter my house that apple makes this is for sure.and nothing good comes out of an idiot who makes a computer in the garage after fail in fixing cars!!

  • Keyboard & screen back lights pulsate

I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2008 running !0.5.8. Tonight the keyboard illumination began pulsating bright-dim-bright-dim. At the same time the screen display began pulsating, too, sometimes alternating with the keyboard, sometimes in unison and sometimes unconnected, it seemed. Trying to control the keyboard light with F5 & F6 keys only showed me the usual semi-circular display blacked out with a little prohibition symbol underneath (circle with a diagonal line in its center). I tried the following remedies without any result.
    rebooted
    reset PRAM
    repaired permissions
    ran Preferential Treatment
    reset SMC
Then I unchecked the automatic dimming control for both keyboard & screen. Now the keyboard continues to pulsate but at avery dim level. The F5 & F6 controls remain as before. The screen however does not pulsate. That is where I am at this point.  I suspect I may have to reinstall the OS, because there are one or two other software problems, but I'd be grateful any guidance possible on this problem.

The function keys change the range over which the level of backlight changes, Martin, but it is still varied according to the ambient lighting.
It is a tricky process in some ways. In a pitch black room, for example, you don't actually need the keys to be a as bright as you do in a room with "half light", for example, so it is not simply a question of the lights getting brighter the less light there is in the room. You will see that if you reduce the amount of light in many situations (stick your hand over the top of the screen where the sensor is, for example), that both the screen and keyboard illumination dims for this reason.
    Cheers

  • Screen\Back Light Problems with Creative Zen Visio

I hope someone can help me here.
A couple of weeks after i had bought my Creative Zen Vision M the backlight on the player would flicker until it eventually went out. The player works fine besides this. I sort of hoped it might come good (i don't know i suppose i thought the creative fairies would come and fix it ) but its been a few months now and the backlight still flickers .. Has any one else had this problem..Would downloading drivers or something fix the prob?.. any help would be greatly appreciated....
    Thanks

Try Upgrading your firmware of the playerGo download section and leech the latest version there. If that still doesn't helps, i'll suggest you to exercise ur warrenty :smileytongue:

  • When i move screen the light on screen flickers.

when i move my screen forward or backwards the screen back light flickers on and off. what is wrong and how can it be fixed?

This can often be caused by a failure of the inverter cable, which is routed through the hinge and can become worn. Unfortunately access to the cable requires a fair amount of dismantling.

  • T40 back light issue

I have two(2) IBM Thinkpad T40's and they both have the same issue. When I first boot up, the display screen (back light) comes on but after a few seconds, they turn off. I would like to know what is causing this and if it reasonable to fix. The laptops work fine when I hook an external monitor on them but I would really like for them to function the way they are supposed to....Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

if your backlight is pinkish then it is a failing CCFL backlight, which you can either replace the CCFL tube (around 20 dollars from ebay) or replace the whole LCD screen or the top case (around 150 dollars).
The last option is the easiest as it means you don't have disassemble the case, which is a somewhat delicate job if you haven't done before, also the top case assembly would also include a new inverter.

If a reset doesn't work, try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • White screen/ no back light

    Hi people
heres the brief history of my problem.
    1. i had a new HD installed 2 years ago. 60gb (dont know if this info is important)
    2. i had "the back light" problem for 16 months now. usually when i could find the sweet spot it would work and i just didnt touch it.
    3. i DID drop the laptop like 2 months ago and the hinge/Screen is broken and is like a raggedy anne doll. but once again if i can angle it, it works and the back light comes on. BUT I HAVE BEEN PRESSING THE LEFT WRIST AREA; OR TORQUING THE LAPTOP HEAVILY TO GET THE LIGHT TO COME ON: BENDING FROM OPPOSITE CORNERS.
    4. last night the cursor froze. i restarted with the PMU thing. didnt work, screen was black. i let it sit for an hour and then it did start up. i was able to get the light etc. hours later cursor froze again and now its very hard to find the light and when i do get it lit, its just an all white screen. the volume buttons work etc. as if it did start up, just that i cant see anything and no cursor, but i suppose it didnt start up.
ive been perusing the board for some time now. i cant start up with the utility disk. shift doesnt work, etc. and of course its dark sometimes so i cant even see whats happening, but nonetheless im pretty sure its still all white.
questions: is the blackness still a problem with the backlight hinge problem, or is not being able to find the lighted sweet spot also not in connection with the whole problem of not starting? is this the logic board? i really dont know what that means. is taking out the extra RAM i added when i got it in 2005 really going to possibly help anything?
im headed back to USA in two weeks to buy a macbook so i also wonder if all the torquing i was doing to get the screen lit could hurt the HD. is it worth it to save the HD from it and use it as an Ex HD,(so my files are saved) or does the problem ive explained relate to it and its probably the problem. i guess i dont want to buy the case to make it an Ex HD only to find out its shot. How durable are they etc? compared to the logic board etc... can i still boot up from my other ex HD now with this problem?
living in foreign country, during xmas, alone and now with no connection to home, or movies ... very sad
    thanks

    Hey mike,
    2. i had "the back light" problem for 16 months now. usually when i could find the sweet spot it would work and i just didnt touch it.
That sounds like an inverter cable problem. It runs up the right side and can break usually near the hinge point.
    3. i DID drop the laptop like 2 months ago
    Yes they don't like that.
and the hinge/Screen is broken and is like a raggedy anne doll. but once again if i can angle it, it works and the back light comes on.
Right that would exacerbate your inverter cable problem.
BUT I HAVE BEEN PRESSING THE LEFT WRIST AREA; OR TORQUING THE LAPTOP HEAVILY TO GET THE LIGHT TO COME ON: BENDING FROM OPPOSITE CORNERS.
Ohh don't do that. The actual area is under the option - Apple keys that's where the graphics chip is located and it's on the bottom of the logic board. Put pressure there from underneath.
What is underneath "THE LEFT WRIST AREA" is your hard drive. There was a case here a while back when a poster was putting excessive pressure there, heard a grinding noise and their hard drive was dead from that point on.
    4. last night the cursor froze... its just an all white screen.
So possibly hard drive is dead. Try starting it up in target mode. If it will do that then there's still a connection. If it can be seen by another Mac via FireWire then it's still OK.
    Oh and Merry Christmas Mike.
    Richard

  • Yosemite boot screen back to grey after mail in service?

Hello all. I've been scouring the internet for days in attempt to find an answer for this, and nothing is consistent. Does anyone know the official list of supported board IDs that get the new black boot screen w/ white apple logo?
I have a 15" retina model (early 2013, 10,1), with a 2.7ghz board. I recently had to send in my computer to the mail in center because the logic board was having intermittent problems recognizing working power adapters. I also had a RAM error in AHD. Both of these issues were taken care of with a logic board replacement. Apparently my audio card was fried too, because they replaced it because of "audio distortion" that I couldn't notice prior, but that's unrelated.
Before the logic board replacement, I was running Yosemite 10.10.2, and through no modification or intervention on my part, I had the new black boot screen with white logo. I wasn't even aware that some computers running Yosemite didn't get this new boot background. But, when I got my computer back over the weekend, it booted up to the old gray EFI screen with darker gray apple logo. I googled around and found out that some models aren't "supported" and keep the old screen. But, mine SHOULD be supported right? It was my impression all retina models that upgraded to yosemite got the new boot screen.
When the computer came back to me, I didn't have to restore from a time machine backup either, they just kept my old SSD and put it on the new board. So it shouldn't be related to restoring from a backup or anything, it's the same SSD the computer was sent in with.
Here's a screen cap of my system report info:
Can anyone shed any light on this? There hasn't ever been an EFI update or SMC update for early 2013 models as far as I can find on apple's website; all updates are either for late 2013s and newer or mid 2012's and older. I figure maybe if I reinstall the EFI boot loader maybe the black screen will automatically come back? I'm thinking this stems from the fact that I had a logic board replaced without reinstalling the OS, which is when the OS would have modified the EFI boot settings? Please tell me that I don't have to actually reinstall yosemite to get the proper screen back. If that's the case, it's not worth it, but I liked that boot screen, haha.

I do not have a tested solution to your problem but you may try: PikeYoseFix-black at your own risk: PikeYoseFix-black.pkg.zip
In fact, I envy your for the gray startup screen and I am contemplating getting the gray startup screen back instead of my black startup screen.
Starting up, my MacBookPro Retina may just show a black screen for up to a minute before the apple logo finally appears. this leaves me wondering if I really have started the MacBook at all. Checking the cover from the back I can see that the apple is illuminated but that is not very elegant.
With the gray startup screen you know that you started the boot process. So even if it takes a while you are not tempted to press the start button again.

  • Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2009: back light problem

    Hey guys,
I was hoping you could offer me some advice.
My 13" Macbook Pro from mid 2009 has been having some backlight issues. Sometimes, after opening the screen, the backlight won't turn on. If I shine through the Apple logo on the back with a torch, you can see the log-in screen, so I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the back light.
I have tried ressetting the SMC and PRAM, yet that hasn't helped. The only way to get the backlight to turn back on is to remove the cover, unplug the battery, hold the power button for 5 seconds, plug back in the battery, put the cover back, and then turn it on.
So far I had to do this every 2 months or so, yet now the screen seems to die more and more often. As you can imagine, it's quite a pain having to go through this process over and over.
Again, any advice to fix this issue would be fantastic.
    Thanks!

I appreciate the response, but my issue does not appear in the linked article as a reason to reset the SMC. Resetting the SMC seems like something too radical to fix something that should "just work". My MBP generally takes too long to wake up or doesn't wake up at all. If it doesn't wake up, I hold the power button and restart. Very annoying, since my wife can resume work on her PC faster coming out of Windows 7 hibernation mode.
    Thanks, Apple!

  • My iPad Mini display is dim so i can barely see anything and I maxed up the back lighting is it broken already??

Bought an iPad mini not long ago and the display suddenly went "black", there is absolutely no brightness in the display rendering it useless. I can make out the icons when i sit down in the dark and i can see the back lighting is set to max. I live in denmark and we have no apple store, its still in the warranty period, but where do i take it for repair? Can it be a software bug? I want to fix the problem fast. When i sit in absolute darkness with the wall plug connected I can see one backlight lighting up from the buttom right corner where the speaker is.

Assuming that you have a credit card in the UK, with a valid billing address for that credit card that matches the credit card statement ....
Launch the app store app. Go to the Featured Tab. Swipe to the bottom of the screen. Your ID is accessible in the lower left corner. Tap on the ID. Then tap View Apple ID. Enter your password. Go down to Country/Region and change the store to the UK in there.
