Screen black after MacBook Air

I installed MacBook Air & Pro Update 2.0 on my 2012 13" MacAir and I find that sometimes when the Air is idle and the screen blanks (energy saver) it stays black and doesn’t tuen on again when I press a key. The only way to recover is a power cycle.
This happened twice. I turned off the option to turb off the screen when idle only enabling the scree saver and it hasn't happened since.
So there is an issue with the energy saver after applying this update.
Anybody seen this???

Yes, happens to me.  And other bad things.
I read somewhere that Apple has pulled the update.  Too late for those of us that installed it and are having problems.

Time Machine Locked after MacBook Air reformatted. My MacBook Air was overfull due to an Address book issue (duplication) so after many attempts to clear space, I ended up wiping out the system and reloading Lion. This resulted in the Time Machine thinking that it was now connected to a different computer. Apparently this diables the existing information.
Now I can see that the back-ups exist (back to Sept 2012) but they are greyed out, therefore unavailale to restore. Again, this seems like an issue that shouldn't be happening. The whole point of the Time Machine is to enable reinstatement of data after catastrophic failure. What if my computer actually had to be replaced due to a hardware issue? How would I beableto restore anything?
    The path already (unsuccessfully) taken;
Open Library on the computer, Open Time Machine, Select Correct date, drill down to correct data you wish to restore, click "Restore".
This did not work because the correct date was greyed out. Restore key was greyed out.

  • Do all your cases and screen covers for MacBook air 2010-2011 fit the 2012 model

Do all your cases and screen covers for MacBook air 2010-2011 fit the 2012 model

Upon receiving my 2012 MBA, I removed the inCase hard shell from my 2011 model and fitted it to my 2012 unit. The fit is identical. Dimensionally they are the same.
So, if you are asking do all of mine fit? Yes they do.

  • How much does it cost to replace the screen of a macbook air 11" ?

how much does it cost to replace the screen of a macbook air 11" ?

According to www.ifixit.com the display assembly for MBA 11" models before mid 2012 is US-$ 500, labor not included.
If you're not in the U.S., you better ask your local Apple service center.

  • How much does it cost to repair a cracked screen for a Macbook Air?

The screen for my MacBook Air recently cracked, and I was wondering about how much it would cost to either fix or replace.

To reinforce Dominic's recommendation (which is a great one), a lot of the cost will depend on what mode of MacBook Air it is. The earlier units are typically not serviced in the store, they're done via what is called a "flat rate" repair. The newer ones can have the screen replaced and are a bit cheaper.
While the numbers most likely have changed, the ballpark is about:
    $650-$800 for the 1st & 2nd generation MBA
    $495-$600 for the 3rd & 4th generation MBA
Keep in mind those are ballparks off of quotes I received about 14 months ago when I brought in two units for screen replacements. But it gives you a rough gauge to expect when you make your GB appointment.

  • Black screen on startup Macbook Air 11 2013

    Hello,
I decided to reinstall my OS X 10.10
So after restart i held "cmd+r", open Disk Utility and format my ssd, then start downloading OS X 10.10
But suddenly an error appeared, and I noticed that there is no SSD in Disk Utility anymore
Then I decided to reboot my macbook and try to reinstall my OS X one more time, so i held power button for 10 sec and then start again
After this the only thing i have is a black screen
I tried reset NVRAM and SMC - no results
    Cmd+R - not working
I made installation drive and tried boot using option button - same
Every command I tried - nothing appear on the screen
Can You help me with this?
    Thanks.
    P.S. Macbook Air 11 2013 128GB MODEL A1465

You took all the reasonable actions that can be expected. Read the following Apple Support document to be sure there isn't anything you may have overlooked:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on - Apple Support
It seems unlikely that a catastrophic failure would coincide with what you did, so perform the NVRAM and SMC resets again, making sure you did both of them properly. After that, schedule a Genius Bar Reservation.
The SMC reset procedure is linked in the above document. The NVRAM reset is as follows:
    NVRAM reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • MacBook (2007) screen black after reboot/shutdown

Hi all I hope you can help me.
    I have a MacBook C2D 2GHz, 2gigs of ram from mid 2007.
I cant remember when the problem appeared but maybe 6 months ago.
Every time my macbook is rebootet or shutdown after an update or if it runs out of battery the screen remains black. The sleep light stays constant on but the chime is played and cd drive makes it usual short start up sound.
I can hear the harddrive working and after maby 30 sec, the screen comes on but its all whiteish with a black stripe down in the right side and stays like this, other times the screen comes on with the desktop but flashing/bounching
If I hold down the power button to kill it off and hit the powerbutton again the same thing happens.
The way I fix it is to power off, take out the battery for about 10 sec. put it back in and hold the trackpad button down or put two fingers on the trackpadand power on, it starts normal with the grey screen and the littel apple logo and boot normally to the desktop. But today today it took me 7 atempts with the above method before it worked.
Is my screen about to die or is it software related.

I have the same problem and I dont think I had this happen until 2 weeks ago and I've had the latop since the last week of August. I've also had the problem crop up when I had the laptop go to sleep while watching a video online and when I tried to wake the laptop back from sleep, I get the blank screen with the cursor. My system is a Macbook air 11" 2013 1.3 Ghz with 4gb ram and 256 gb SSD. I also have a 15 MBPro and have not encountered this problem. Is this anyway related to the recent update that OSX was pushing for the upcoming Maverick update?

  • Black screen when opening MacBook Air

Now and then, when I open up my MacBook Air, the screen is all black and do not respond to any key action - it is not shut down. Most of the times the start screen is there asking for login. The only way to get around the black screen is to force a restart.
It's a mid 2013 13 inch MBA 1.7 GHz i7 with 8 GB RAM running Maverics 10.9.3. This blackscreen problem has evolved since some of the latest OS updates.
Anyone exeperience the same thing and found a solution?

It's in warranty? If so, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Crashing after return from screen saver. MacBook Air late 2011 Lion

Hi, hoping to get some help from this community. I have a late model 2011 MacBook air running the latest version of OS X Lion. The last few months I've had an issue with getting a complete black screen with the squarely ball rotating and otherwise very little response but I can move the mouse around. The last time this happened, I was actually able to three finger swipe between desktops, but otherwise the system was unresponsive. This swiping between desktops eventually stopped also. Alt-tab also work as long as I was switching between desktops. While I can still scroll the cursor around the only way out seems to be a hard reboot.
My configuration is fairly standard, however I do have office 2011 installed and also Lotus Notes. Both are at the latest level, however I do realize this might be part of the problem. I am also using a VPN connection into work however this is a normal set up through OS X.
I'm trying to narrow this down to root causes. Any thoughts?

Boot into Internet Recovery (command-option-R at the startup chime) and try to repair the boot volume in Disk Utility. You will have to unlock the volume before you can do anything with it.

  • Screen problem on macbook air mid 2011

    Hello,
I have a macbook air 2011 which I use almost all day long every day. It's about 1.5 years but the laptop is good conditions.
The last couple of days a problem with the screen arises. When I move the screen up/down to change position, I see a subtle color change. I took a video using a camera [1].
The screen becomes blue-ish with white stripes for a couple of seconds. It's awkward. I'd like to know if it's a hardware problem known and if it's dangerous. Doesn't bother me yet but I'm kinda worried about possible problems in the next future :-/
    [1] https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1184138/prob.m4v

The problem looks to me to be anything but "subtle". It looks very obvious, and it appears to be a hardware issue, as if one of the RGB segments are skewed when you move the screen. Perhaps a connector or circuit failure. If the unit is still under AppleCare coverage, I would take it in for diagnosis for sure. If not, I suppose it would depend on the cost to remedy and by position to deal with it, but I would still want it diagnosed. It is reminisent of a problem I once had with a Toshiba laptop I had 20 years ago. Eventually the display failed altogether and I could only use it with an external monitor.
