  • Random screen blackout 2009 24 inch Cinema Display... HELP.

Random screen blackouts with 24 inch Cinema Display (purchased 2009). Never used with anything but same Macbook Pro (2009). No hardware changes on MBP. Just started June 6, 2012. Super annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Recommendations?

    Hello, Ertjie.
The link titled Download the 24-inch LED Cinema Display Update from the kb/TS4045 article worked for me when I tried it today.  Click the "Download" link I post here or try the one in the kb article again.  Perhaps it will work for you now?
However, I note that the kb article expressly states that this firmware update:
...is only intended for use with and will only install on the Apple 24-inch LED Cinema Display while the display is connected to a Thunderbolt-enabled Mac. (EZ Jim emphasis added)
If your Mac is really using Mac OS X (10.6.8)  as shown in your initial topic posting, your Mac may not be Thunderbolt-enabled.   If so, contact Apple or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for help.

  • After iOS 7.0.2 update: Freeze on lock screen, blackout & unresponsive for 5 min then the phone restarts itself

Happened after iOS 7.0.2 update a few times (2x this morning): Freeze on lock screen, "blackout:" unresponsive to any buttons pressing, after 3-5 minutes the phone restarts itself and works again... (1) May I ask what can I do? I am trying to reset it and recovering the data from backup. (2) Can a virus cause this problem?

To rule out a software issue, set it up as new device without using the latest backup.

If it does not charge normally after that, you'll have to get it serviced, the problem might be hardware related.

  • Screen blackout running Windows 7 in Bootcamp

I've just upgraded to the latest Lion on my iMac 8,1 and the latest version of Bootcamp running Windows 7. Now I get random screen blackouts, which require a complete shutoff of the machine. I suspect it might be related to the new NVIDIA driver. Any thoughts?

I have a similar issue which first occurred today.  I was using Windows, and had been logged in for several days, when suddenly a relatively small blue box appeared in an otherwise black screen.  I didn't have time to read what appeared in it.  I started up in Windows afterward and the start up process seemed normal, i.e., all was visible in the OS and I could enter my password.  But, presumably after accepting the password, I only received a black screen.  This continued until I used the power button.  After briefly pressing the power button, I could see the mouse pointer and a spinning icon and the computer would then shutdown.  I hadn't been installing or updating any software in Mac OS or Windows before this incident.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, connect in recovery mode to your computer and restore, explained here:

  • Unpredictable screen blackout when gaming

After about 4 years of owning my 21.5" intel iMac, I started randomly experiencing screen blackouts while playing mildly graphically-intensive games. These blackouts did not effect the actual computer, but the display flickered a little and then went black, and required a shut down and unplug. While blacked out, pressing the brightness button would make the screen show itself once or twice, but after that it remained off. This usually happens 5-10 minutes into a game, and is extremely annoying. This started happening yesterday and has happened about 10 times now. What can I do to stop this from happening?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
As you mention your iMac screen was flickering, it may be a GPU issue. The same thing happened to me a few years ago and my iMac started flickering all the time after some days.
I recommend you to make a backup of your files onto an external drive and take the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it checked. Maybe it is not a hardware problem, but it is better to be sure about this.

  • Automated disabling screen blackout with external power

Does anyone have a solution to automatically defeat the screen blackout, other than turning it off in the screen options, so that the screen will stay on while external power is connected and revert to the set screen saver settings when on battery power.  This would be helpful when using Navigation or other applications that require screen on mode but retain the battery saving function of teh screen blanking.  I have an 8830 with Sprint service.
Thanks to anyone with a suggestion

You need to install BBLight on your BlackBerry.

    Hi
You should take it to a service center....Could be a hardware issue.
A valid warranty should cover this.

  • T60 Screen Blackout

I have a 4 year old T60 laptop. The screen turns on and will function until about 5 minutes after log in and then there is a mechanical whine and the screen will turn off but the fan will continue running simultaneously. When I close the physical screen and reopen it the LCD turns back on for a minute or so. Any ideas on what may be happening?

Just now my T60 screen got "black" (so no display). On my second monitor: no problems (where I am typing this now), (luckily chrome was still open. So after a reboot and typing in "chrome" in the command bar on the second monitor I could type this....)(though can not switch windows, so no start menu).
    symptom:
Screen blanks / no display but works on second monitor
    steps to reproduce:
    - boot
    - wait (it does not matter what you do you do not have to login or anything)
    - (now the monitor of the laptop slowly begins to make a ssssssssHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWOEOEssssssss noice of about 10 seconds)
    -  right after the sounds ends the monitor gets black
times seem to be the same each time.
    software:
installed no new software before/after, running zone alarm and antivirus.
    other:
it does not feel hot in any place, there dont seem to be running processes with strange behaviour.
    warranty:
    out of warranty
    what was i doing:
typing text on a website and doing some php coding in a text editor.
Anyone any idea what I can do here other than buy a new laptop? / does it sound familiar to known cases?
    update:
    * exactly the same problem:

    * and here: "i have that same problem.  i replaced the CCRL on mine and it works fine when the screen is not screwed in.  once the frame of the LCD screen (metal portion) touches the metal on the laptop which holds the screen the screen goes black.  If the metal is touching the screen when you boot up it boots up with it being very dimmly lit. " from http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T60-screen-problems/m-p/205047#M44995 (it seems replacing the lcd is no use, he tried it 3 times).
    * same problem: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T60-black-screen/m-p/80604#M25914
Hmmm... not handy 3 or 4 months ago I ordered and installed a new fan. Now the LCD. Which does not seem the core isse but some electric issue so it seems replacing the LCD is not the thing todo here.
    I have the following question:
If it is not the LCD that needs to be replaced (see other threads) which parts can I order to fix this? Has anyone got any information which could lead me to identify the issue? I have read replacing the "inverter" AND the "backlightning" would that make sense?

  • 5320 screen blackout

I have just got a 5320 and found out to my dismay that even after spending the day changing all the settings, no matter what you do the screen blacks out fully after a couple of minutes.
I upgraded to the latest firmware, and it still does it.
I set the screen saver duration to "always" and it still blacks out.
I see someone on the Ireland forum has the same issue:
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=phones&message.id=46707
Does anyone else have this problem?
I feel like I have fast rewinded to nineties technology.
There is no way to tell if I have a missed call / text waiting without pressing a button on the phone every time I walk past it.
Frankly this sucks and Nokia needs to fix it.

I also have the same problem but it is severe than your problem. My 5320 screen blackout if I not change screen saver in to always mode. The problem is the screen not recovers even after pressing a button so always I have to restart the phone to recover from the black screen. If you can resolve the prob please reply.........

  • IMAC 27" random screen blackout

my 8 month old iMAC 27" quad core machine recently started to "black out"  Screen goes black for no reason and the only remedy is to hit the power button - usually twice.  This will bring the system back to where it was, all open APPs etc. will be exactly where you left them.   I also tested the speaker volume up/down keys to see if the "system" was still functioning during a screen black out.  THe CPU etc. is still avtive as the speaker volume when maxed out will "beep" at you.
I called tech support - they had me do some special resets of power control and PRAM - no luck
I took the system into Apple store for Genius Bar appointment - 2 hours of running the mac in the store, of course it did not black out....however, they ran other diagnostics and ran a bunch of utilities, graphics etc. to max the RAM and CPU load, heating up the system but still nothing happened.  they suggested I reistall the OS by doing a hard boot and holding down the command key to prompt me to re-install the OS from the "cloud".  This did not solve the problem either.
I then took the system back to Apple and told them to fix it or replace it.  They kept the system for 5 days, and replaced
item 661-5948 Board, Logic, 2.7GHZ, Quad Core i5
item 661-5967 card, video, AMD radeon HD 6770M, 512M
item 661-6615 LCD panel 27 inch with BLC
    and labor: TOTAL COST $1183.32
This was all under the first year warranty so I did not have to pay for this out of pocket.  If you look at the list of repairs, they effectively gutted my iMAC except for the HDD and enclosure.  Ahhhhh at last I thought I would be back to a fully functional iMAC.   Two days after getting home and just browsing the internet the blackouts started again.
Once the system blacks out the first time (which appears to be a completely random amount of time) it will then black out more frequently after hitting the power button.
It's time to call Apple again and demand a new system, wondering if the iMAC LCD crystal / video components are suffering from a manufacturing defect....as it seems the new components they replaced are suffering from the same issue.
APPLE - would appreciate you recognizing this problem and working on resolution.
    thanks,
Share holder and completely converted MAC power (family) users!!!!

Hi, I hope you find this information useful:
A few years ago, we purchased iMac 27" 11,3 (Mid-2010) (with i7 2.93Ghz, ATI 5750 1GB VidRam, etc.) for our offices and software development team. They were originally shipped with Snow Leopard and worked as expected and without any problems. However, a year later, we upgraded to Lion and all of machines immediately exhibited the same problem: the screen would go to sleep by itself and would require a hard reboot or sleep on/off. (Only the screen was asleep and the rest of the iMac continued to function; this was confirmed by screen sharing to the machine.)
Due to the severity and impact on our business, we immediately contacted Apple and their genius bar staff in New York/SoHo. They were unable to determine the root cause, so they replaced all of the logic boards, video cards, and screens, and got us back online asap. This resolved the problem, but we were curious to know why. After days of rigorous testing, we concluded that the issue is caused by a bug in MacOS. Specifically, faulty Kext files (Kernel Extension files extend the functionality of the MacOS Kernel) for the ATI drivers.  So, why did the replacing the hardware work? We think that the Kext files that were released and distributed with Lion (and later MacOS versions) correctly supported the newer hardware revision of the replacement components, but not the older ones.
If you're experiencing this problem, short of replacing the components or waiting (for another 3+ years) for Apple to hopefully fix their OS software, you can lessen the effects and be able to recover faster by doing the following: (Please bear in mind that these are not permanent fixes.)
Turn on "Hot Corners" and assign one corner to "Put Display To Sleep". When your screen goes to sleep, move your mouse (which still works) to that assigned screen corner for a second, then move it again. This will wake your screen. You may have to do this a couple of times, but it's much faster than a hard reboot or a sleep on/off for your iMac.
Turn the brightness of your screen to a low setting (10%-15% of the total brightness).
Turn on screen sharing, so you have a last resort method of accessing the machine.
If you're not convinced that it's a MacOS software problem, then do what we did and see for yourself; install Windows 7, Windows 8, or Linux via Bootcamp or as the only OS on the iMac. Those operating systems and drivers worked flawlessly for us; the bug does not occur and the screen does not go to sleep, but if you dual boot and switch back to MacOS, the bug reappears because the iMac is loading faulty Apple MacOS software.
    Good luck!

  • How to on my screen blackout on iPhone 4s

My iphone 4s screen is blackout and on voice command at the same time

    Hello, luv_rossy.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like screen curtain may be enabled.  Screen curtain is a feature that allows display privacy.  To disable screen curtain while VoiceOver is enabled, you can three finger triple tap the screen to disable this feature.  You may need to press the home button once in order to process these steps.  If you wish to disable VoiceOver, see the link in the article below.

  • Iphone Screen blackout

    IPhone 3GS
    IOS5
the Phone is blackout but still receiving calls.
reboot with 'power'+'home' buttons, the screen displays icons but very dark and can hardly see it. I checked brightness: auto mode is on.
    Any help is much appreciated.

In order to fix KERNAL PANIC... force the iPhone handset into DFU mode (recovery mode)...
    1. Force device shutdown.... by holding the power and home button.
    2. Now hold down the home button for 10 seconds and then still holding the home button connect the iphone to the computer, release home when you see the itunes symbol or after around 10 further seconds.
    3. At this stage you can connect it to iTunes and then do a factory restore.

  • Macbook-Screen Blackouts

I have a Macbook and I have had it new since this past Christmas. Every once in a while the screen will go black for a few seconds and I just have to wait for it to restore itself. I haven't found a pattern that causes it; sometimes I'm online, sometimes off, it can be hours after waking from sleep or sometimes it happens just after I've entered my password and hit enter. I'll see my desktop briefly then there's a blackout and it takes me back to re-enter my password and unlock it from screensaver. Is there a fix for this?

Either the inverter is flaky or else the connection between the inverter and the backlight lamps is intermittent. Either way it is a hardware problem and will have to be returned to Apple for repair. If you still have a warranty, the repair will be free of charge.
