Screen blacks out at startup; what does it mean and can I fix it?

I've got a Macbook that has held up wonderfully over the past 6 months but just within the last week I've been having problems when trying to start my computer. I will turn it on like I normally do, the startup sound plays, the blue apple screen will come up and OS X will begin to load but then.....my screen goes black. Pressing keys does not make the screen come on and neither does working with the scroll pad. The computer is still on and running; putting it to my ear I can hear the hard drive running. I then have to force quit by holding down the power button to retry starting it again. The last time I tried to turn on my computer it took about 6 tries before I finally got into my account. After logging in it will run like it normally does and I have no problems. I know that this force quitting probably isn't helping the problem, and I want to get some advice from other apple owners before I run into the local mac store in tears. The computer was bought in December and I'm running Mac OS X.
Any advice would be helpful and greatly appricated. Thanks!

Maybe Disk Utility can repair the disk this way:
-Search your installation DVD's.
-Insert the disc 1 and sthut down your Mac
-Start your Mac again while holding down the C key
-Now your Mac should boot from the CD, this can take some time.
-After a while you will see a installation screen where you can chose a language.
-Chose English and continue.
-Then click some time's next and agree with the "Software Agreement".
-Open Disk Utility. Top menu bar --> Utilities --> Open Disk Utility.
-Select your hard disk in the list of disks and volumes on the left side
-Go to the First Aid (tab somewhere on the right).
-Click the button to verify the permissions.
-Then Click the button to repair the permissions.
-Click the button to verify the disk.
-Then Click the button to repair the disk.
-Exit the Disk Utility and the installer.
-Restart your Mac
In any case,when you force shout down,Repair Disc Permissions.

Music I purchased on I Tunes is not available when I open ITunes in I Movie. I Movie says those files are "protected" and not accessible. What does that mean and can I change them to "unprotected" so I can use them in IMovie?

Ok, so when I went in to check the Audio tab of the Sounds and Audio Device Properties, I found the following:-
* Sound Playback Default Device = No Playback Devices.
* Sound Recording Default Device = No Playback Devices.
* MIDI Music Playback Default Device = No MIDI Playback Devices.
All text in this drop-down box were light grey, and therefore unable to be selected or altered.
I also tried playing a cd through Windows Media player, to see if I could get sound a different way. When I put the cd in and clicked on Play, the following message appeared, "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your PC, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functoning properly."
Any ideas ? I had sound previously, but then a work colleague re-built the PC to add more space to the hard drive, and since then, no sound. I know this may now not just be an iTunes issue, but I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Damaged file notification - what does it mean and can it be fixed?

If InDesign CS3 crashes, and when re-opening the file, says it may be damaged, what might that mean? I can still open the file, work with it, save it, as if everything is OK. Might this be something I can find and fix?

I didn't think the link was version-specific other than noting the arrival of .idml as the new format going forward. Indeed, it does work in CS3, and probably better, in my experiince, than .idml seems to work in CS5.
You must open the file to do the export, but that's all I would do with any file that offers you a warning -- immediately export, and don't overwrite the old file, just in case you find you need it again as a backup (if nothing else, you might be able to copy the text and paste into a new file, or export to RTF or something else somewhat useful instead of having to start from scratch). There is no way I know to predict when a file is going to crash and burn, but continuing to work with a file that tells you it might be damaged is kind of like driving your car and ignoring the smoke coming from under the hood.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Load error 17: what does it mean, and can I save my VI?

I can't load a VI anymore after LabVIEW crashed on me. It just gives me the following error message:
"Resource not found.
An error occured loading VI 'xx.vi'.
LabVIEW load error code 17: Could not load VI's link information."
Is there any way to salvage this apparently damaged VI, or do I have to rewrite all the code?

None of the obvious things work, including mass-compile and what you suggest. What I was after was if NI has some tool that can try to repair broken VIs, but that apparently isn't the case.

Oracle ODBC Error - Option Value Changed - What does it Mean and How to fix

We have an asp web report making calls to an oracle 8i database. It appears that we get the following error on regular basis for one particular report:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e31'

When the web page is refreshed, it appears the error goes away. Any new call to the database from the web page will start with the error again though.
Other web pages seem to work ok with out error.
Did a number of google searches did not find anything definative that seemed to help.

These messages can be ignored. They are common but innocuous. There is nothing you need to fix.

I have installed new windows 7 and i was not having pdf viewer. I just downloaded the latest adobe acrobat reader DC for the adobe site and installed in my PC. Thing is, am able to open some of the PDF files (word document that is converted into PDF). But scanned images for example photo or mark sheets that are converted into PDF, am getting this error message.
I tired almost everything.
1) un-installed and installed again.
2) installed previous version of adobe
3) unchecked the "Enable, protection mode during startup"
4) tried setting zero for "bproectmode" in the regedit (key_host_local_machine->adobe->dc> Dword with value 0)
5) created new administrator account, and even there, i got the same error message.
6) tried repair installation said by Sukrit...
But nothing fixed my issue

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Erase your drive and reinstall correctly, stop messing about with incremental patches. The routine you need is BERR (backup, erase, reinstall, restore) or just stay as yu are, it is entirely up to you.
