Screen brightness at max after restart

everytime i start my macbook the brightness of my screen is set to the highest level. no matter what level i choose when i work it always adjusts itself to max when i start. any solution what i could do? i had a motherboard replacement and never experienced this problem before.

are you using the fast user switching screen?
i.e. when you restart/start, does it display a choice of users before you go to your desktop window?
I have been getting a bit irritated as I've noticed mine does the same thing ~ As I read your question, however, I realized the fast user switching/system preferences at my logon screen may be the problem...as I am not YET logged into "my" preferences until I sign in from that point.

  • Screen brightness on 808 - after timeout even brig...

    Hello,
I have set my screen (backlight) brightness on 808 Belle FP2 to minimal possible (and in the night it's still too much imho).
I have set the display timeout to 5s (minimum). However, after this timeout, the screen gets brighter instead of turning backlight off or at least keeping it minimal.
Is this a known bug? Can I do somethign with it?

    Hi fantomas,
I can confirm this bug. With the great app "Situations" I have created a "night" situation on my 808 (FP 2) where the phone goes into powersaving mode. There, the lowest screen brightness is chosen. Sometimes, a few seconds after the last touch on the screen, it becomes brighter. Touching the screen again makes it go back to the correct (=lowest) brightness level.
It shouldn't be too hard for the ex-Nokia emploxees at Accenture to fix that.

  • [SOLVED] GNU Screen - sessions always dead after restart

I recently started using GNU screen.  I'm able to detach and reattach sessions normally, except after a restart.  Then any detached sessions are marked as dead and all I can do is run a screen -wipe.  My sessions are stored in ~/.screen.
I've searched the web and forums but no one seems to have had this problem.
Any ideas?  Screen's a lot less useful if I can't reattach after restarting.

This is sort of related, but sometimes it is possible to use special software to suspend an application as a file, which could possibly be set up with screen to provide a rebootable state. However this software seems to be fairly hard to find and get working well enough to be usable. If you want to investigate more, you can probably google for something like "linux application freezing" or "linux application checkpointing".
Actually I just found the software I was thinking of as I'm typing this, http://cryopid.berlios.de/. The page doesn't seem to be loading for me, but I think I have used this in the past with limited success. Not sure if it up to date with the latest kernels however.

  • Screen brightness not changing after update to windows 10

Hello, After updating to windows 10, I am no longer able to adjust the screen brightness at all.  It is stuck on the brightest setting at all times; which is inconvenient when I am on battery power and need it dimmed. The f2 and f3 buttons are not working to adjust the brightness, and I am unable to change it in power/power plan settings. I attempted to search for a possible missing driver that I had maybe lost upon updating, but there are yet no drivers for my product on the HP website for this purpose. Any help on this matter is extremely appreciated, as it is rather frustrating that I can't change my screen brightness. Thanks.

How about using the snipping tool to create an image of what you do see and posting it here.  The snipping tool is what I used to create the image that I posted.  What version of Windows 10 is installed?  I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro on the Omen 15 and have the Enterprise version on one of my desktop systems. I have not yet used the HOme or Education versions, so I do not yet know which features they lack.

  • Screen Brightness control disappeared after upgrading to Mountain Lion

    Hello all.
I've just upgraded to Lion, and now I can't adjust the brightness of my screen anymore!
    Anyone else has this problem?

I was having the same problem after I completely tore down my Macbook Pro mid-2010 in order to replace the keyboard.  (Phew!)  After re-asssembling, everything was working again except for the screen brightness buttons (F1,F2).  I figured it was a bad keyboard, but after zapping the p-ram, the brightness buttons now work as they should.  Thanks for the tip!

  • Screen brightness not working after updating windows 10

My Lenovo g50-70 laptop screen brightness button not working and I also not able to adjust brightness of my laptop.it is fixed at maximum level after updating windows 10. Find a solution for this problem.

I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion 17-e073ed notebook. As far as I can tell everything seems to be working again BUT the brightness function keys.
I tried downloading a few of the quick key drivers but they're still not working.

  • Computer wakes from sleep but screen remains black even after restart

So, I installed SL yesterday and everything seemed fine. Last night, I closed my computer's monitor (putting it to sleep) for the night. This morning, when I opened it, the screen was black. I could not see anything, so I just restarted the computer.
On restart, the screen remained black.
After some experimentation, I realized that the computer was actually running, but I just couldn't see anything. So, I typed my password - screen was still black.
I then pressed the power button and enter - shutting down the computer properly.
After it shut down, I turned it on and the screen came on as normal...
    What's going on here?
I checked some other threads and there was some potential issue with the iphoto screensaver, but I am not sure if that is the case here or not.
Any thoughts on how to fix this or prevent it form happening in the future?

I just had a similar thing occur. After resetting the pram the screen came back on.
I had noticed some problems with the hot corners for sleep mode earlier so I have deactivated them now to see if this was the problem. The only other thing I can think of is the recent Java update. I installed it right before the problem occurred.

  • Bootcamp 5.0 installation: Blank Screen with blinking cursor after restart

I have a late 2011 mbp with 16gb ram, 2 750gb hard drives. I'm trying to install bootcamp on the 2nd hard drive. I'm using the cd drive in an external usb housing to install windows 7 ISO burn. I've used this cd several times in the past with no issues. After creating the partition with bootcamp assistant, my mac restarts automatically then when it boots, it goes to a blank black screen with a blinking cursor. I have restarted and repeated this process several times, as well as let it set there for about 1 hour and still nothing...I've also tried sudo ram reset and command option p r but still nothing.
Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Ok guys, for those of you who are having the same problem...here are the instructions on how to get past the blank screen and install windows 7 bootcamp with TWO hard drives installed.
    1. With both hard drives installed, start the bootcamp assistant (you need a usb optical drive with windows dvd inserted to do this). Partition your SECOND hard drive for windows.
    2. When your computer restarts and your at the blank screen with the blinking cursor of doom, manually shut down your computer.
    3. Remove both hard drives from your MBP. Put the "Bootcamp" partitioned hard drive in the main HD bay. MAC OS DOES NOT NEED TO BE INSTALLED ON THE  "BOOTCAMP" HD TO DO THIS.
    4. Install your optical drive back into its factory place. (Where the "BOOTCAMP" HD was just installed at)
    5. Power back up your MBP while holding the alt/option key down. Make sure the windows DVD is still in the optical drive!
    6. Click on windows cd to boot from.
    7. Start installing.
    8. When finished, replace optical drive with "BOOTCAMP" HD and put MAC OS HD back in like it was before this process.
    9. Your finished.
    10. Now enjoy!

  • Card Reader & Screen Brightness Issues with 3000 N100 Running Fedora 10

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and came here to look for info on a couple minor issues I'm having with Fedora 10 on my 3000 N100.  It's great to see that there's a group of Linux users here.  Anyway, onto the issues:
    1) The integrated card reader.  It works just as it should right after I boot up - i.e. insert an SD card and it auto mounts.  However, if I leave the system idle while doing other things the card reader quits working.  I've used the terminal to look up the location of the card reader when it's working properly.  If I unmount the card (under the Gnome desktop System menu, right click the card, select unmount), leave it in the reader, and try to remount it in terminal (using the location mentioned above) it tells me the device isn't found, or the location doesn't exist.
    2) I've set the screen brightness to max as my default (which is just bright enough to read comfortably under the fluorescent lights here at work), and my brightness function keys work fine too right after bootup.  Again, if I leave the system idle for a bit the screen goes dim.  At this point the brightness function keys quit working as well.  If I go to System > Preferences > System > Power Management I can slide the brightness toggle down and back up, and the screen then immediatetly returns to full brightness.
Any help you folks can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi ugaarguy,
It sounds to me like there's some power settings that are powering down the card reader after a certain period of inactivity.  This could also be the case for your brightness settings and keys.
You may find a better answer in the Fedora forums regarding these issues, so you might want to try posting there as well.
Is there a control panel which deals with power settings in Fedora?  Perhaps check around for these settings to see if there are certain power saving features enabled on your system.

  • Flashcards for screen brightness no longer work after BIOS upgrade

I have a Toshiba Satellite T135D/1320S laptop, and last night I upgraded the BIOS to v1.90 under the recently released recall notice.  AFter installing the BIOS, however, the Flashcard brightness controls no longer work. Whenever I press FN-6 or FN-7, the screen brightness Flashcard pops up and the toggle on the slider bar moves back and forth, but the brightness of the screen does not change.
I have disabled and re-enabled the Flashcards as suggested in a separate forum, and I've also downloaded the most recent display driver (AMD display driver v8.615).  Neither effort corrected the problem.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Satellite T135D-S1320
Sometimes it helps to reset the machine. With the battery and AC adapter removed, close the Power switch for half-a-minute. Re-attach those, press the Power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press the F2 key while the Toshiba logo is displayed. Press F9 to restore the BIOS default settings, press F10, and then select Yes (Exit Saving Changes). The computer will restart.
Another things to try is reinstalling the TVAP.

  • IMac 20" (2006) display brightness down after restart

Hello, i'm having a strange issue with my 20" iMac in the sense that after each restart the screen brightness is pitched all the way down to it's lowest settings. It's not a major problem, but it's still quite annoying.
Anyone else has this? Does anyone have a solution?

My iMac does this every once in a while. Not really sure why.
There are screen brightness buttons on your keyboard. They are the F1 and F2 buttons and can be used to quickly adjust your brightness without opening System Prefs.

  • Long delay after startup before screen brightness, volume buttons work

I just started noticing this in the last few days. After I start up, it will be 4 or 5 minutes before I can adjust the screen brightness or volume using the F keys. Also, I noticed that I can't do a "Force Quit" during this time - either by doing the keystroke or by going to the Apple menu. After this "dead period" is over, if I've enacted any of the aforementioned activities, they will appear on the screen all at once.
I can start and use other applications just fine during this period. It seems like OS X is just not completely done booting up, and that's why I can't get to any of the built-in OS features. I think I would be fine with that if I was still using windows, but I've never had this problem on my mac before. The only things that I've installed in the last few weeks are the Firefox 3 upgrade and (I believe) some pushed updates from Apple - can't remember which apps they were for.
Can someone help me troubleshoot this?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
How much Free space do you have on what size HD?
Might give a try with Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Or, you can do some of those things another way...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • Screen Brightness reduces after Mac OS Update

I had updated my Mac OS to 10.6.3 from 10.6 on my macbook pro. I noticed after rebooting of my system, the screen brightness has reduced considerably. I reset the PRAM and noticed my brightness return back to normal lever but again reduced after login page appeared. Can someone provide me with a solution to the problem..

    Hi there,
I experienced exactly the same when I updated one of my Macs recently. I was running the update & the screen reduced it's brightness as it usually does before it goes to sleep & then once it had restarted as part of the installation process, the brightness was more or less at it's minimum setting. I increased it to it's usual setting & this was then retained as usual. You shouldn't notice any further reductions in brightness as I believe this is just due to the screen's powersave process kicking in during the installation.

  • Display loses brightness after restarts

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. Since some update (can't remember which one), my MacBook Pro will lose it's brightness after restarting. But here's the funny part, it doesn't lose it "quickly" after a restart. For instance, I use cocktail to run at night. When my MacBook Pro restarts, the brightness is perfect. But... if I leave it at the login-screen (I use username/password to enter desktop), it eventually will turn off the brightness. I can't tell you how long after restart since I never timed it or saw it do it. It's just that every morning, my mac is sitting with no brightness on the login screen. Then I have to hit the brightness button.
Any suggestions? I've reset the NVRAM and reset the PRAM. I guess I should take it off the login and see if it dims the desktop after logging in after a restart.
    Bryan

You might check "Options" under Energy Saver and see if the box is checked that says "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep". I don't know if this is relevant, but you could uncheck it and see if it makes a difference.
    Good luck!

  • Completely unsolvable: Cannot change screen brightness after I upgraded my ThinkPad's display.

I have a ThinkPad X240 which came with a 1366x768 TN panel, I hated it and so after a while I upgraded it to an IPS 1080p display. It works great and looks fantastic except it's stuck on max brightness inside of Windows 8.1. I cannot change the brightness inside of Intel HD graphics settings or inside of programs like Display Tuner. It doesn't work in Windows 10 either. The weird thing is, I can change the brightness just fine inside of Ubuntu. I've tried uninstalling the Intel HD drivers and reinstalling them, I've tried switching the drivers to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and none has worked. I feel like I've installed every single version of Intel's Graphics Drivers and that I've done everything and it still won't change the bloody brightness. NOTHING has worked except to just use Ubuntu, which is not an adequate solution. I've even gone as far as to update my BIOS and reset it to defaults, I've even pulled the CMOS battery. I've tried the version of the Intel HD driver from Lenovo for the X240 and I've installed the monitor.ini files. I've also just learned that during the Windows Boot Logo, the FN keys WILL change the brightness, but as soon as Windows is done booting, it stops working. This, coupled with the fact that brightness control works in Ubuntu means that this must be something related to Windows right? Brightness control works in BIOS. I've even gone so far as to try and change the brightness through CMD using powercfg according to this post. http://superuser.com/questions/472081/can-i-force-a-greater-screen-brightness-from-windows-command-prompt I'm really starting to lose patience now as it has been like this for 3 weeks and I can't be using Ubuntu all of the time, I honestly do not know what to do, it seems like this problem is completely unsolvable. Edit: I even got so frustrated that I switched off the laptop, installed the old screen, booted up Windows, and the brightness worked. Then (I know this is a bad idea) WHILE IT WAS ON, I pulled the old display and put connected the new one. And lo and behold, the brightness **bleep**ING worked in windows on the new display.
