Screen brightness iphone 3gs

Whilst on holiday, my phone's screen display went really dim, so I can barely see it. It's still working and I managed to go in to the settings and set the brightness to maximum, but it remained really dark. I then tried switching off and on, resetting and then finally resetting all my settings but still the same problem. Has anyone else had this issue and managed to fix it? Any advice much appreciated please.

It may be hardware related but...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If still a problem, try a restore.

Can't get past the activation screen for iphone 3Gs

I am trying to activate the iphone 3Gs after switching from blackberry. When I turn the phone on, I get to the "welcome"screen, I choose my country and then given the option to activate through WiFi or iTunes. When I activate through WiFi, I get a message saying that the activation server is unavailable and to try again in a few minutes ( tried it again and was unsuccessful). I then attempt to activate through iTunes and receive a message saying that there is no SIM card in the phone (when there is). I am stuck here with a phone that is not working! I do not know what to do. I took it into Apple for them to check it out and they can't find the problem. Maybe someone has come across this issue and had it resolved? Please share!

You are asking in a thread that is 18 months old. Whatever.
Here are possible causes for that message:
1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. Your phone is jailbroken.
3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer.
Windows: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Mac: /etc/hosts

Only shows white screen on iPhone 3GS

I replaced a new display to my iphone 3gs. Only one time display worked. After that displays shows only white light but iphone is working normally call and all. But no display than white. Please help me. Thanks.

Sorry, we can't help you with your problem, as users are not supposed to do repairs on the phone. Also the Terms of User rule against discussing that in these forums.
You'll have to search for a experienced 3rd party repair shop to get your phone fixed, Apple will not service it anymore after being opened.

Line on the screen of iphone 3gs

My screen has suddenly developed a straight line on the right side of the display panel. This line is also visible when the phone is turned off. Can any one assist me with the same??

Hi,
Try restoring your iPhone but not from a backup.
Instructions here for restoring as a new device.
Re sync your apps several at a time as it may be a third party app that's causing the problem.

I have this dark spot on the Iphone. I dont know whats wrong with it, since the phone wasnt dropped or anything. See picture below. THe phone isnt more then 2 months old. I know its under warranty. Will apple cover this ?

Welcome to the Support Communities! You can adjust the brightness of your screen using the Settings app, and also from the Control Center. Here is some information from the iPhone User Guide for iOS 8.
Adjust the screen brightness - iPhone
Adjust the screen brightness
Dim the screen to extend battery life, or use Auto-Brightness.
Adjust the screen brightness. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness, then drag the slider. If Auto-Brightness is on, iPhone adjusts the screen brightness for current light conditions using the built-in ambient light sensor. You can also adjust the brightness in Control Center.

Hello Guys I would just like to ask a question about my iphone 3GS the screen brightness touch is all okay but i seem to have a problem with the contrast which is especially noticeable when trying to take pictures. The best way i can describe it is the dark parts and shadowy of the image/photo are really dark! Its similiar in way if you had your laptop with you and you were looking straight at the screen but then you tilt the screen back and you stay in the same position certain parts appear dark! Can anyone help me with this because i know the 3gs can take briliant photos! Many thanks Oli x

Try taking a picture and then emailing it to someone. Then look at the pic on a computer.
If the contrast of the pic is the same on the computer, it's not an issue with your screen, it's an issue with the camera. It might not be an issue with the camera at all, it doesn't do well in low-light situations.

Dust under Iphone 3GS screen ... or dead pixel?

I picked up my Iphone 3GS from my local AT&T store this morning. I was very excited, as this is my first Iphone product. Almost immediately, I noticed a small black dot about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom of the screen, and smack-dab in the middle (horizontally). At first I thought it was a dead pixel (I have a long history with these and they drive me nuts). However, after further examination, I think this may be something else (a spec of dust perhaps). I say this because the dot is visible even when the phone is powered off. Furthermore, under bright light (when the screen is off), the dot appears to cast a "shadow" on the screen. What should I do? Is there a good way to determine if this is a dead pixel or dust? To get the phone serviced, should I return to my local AT&T store, or go to my local Apple store?

My first had dead pixels, the second had dust. They on the second one wouldn't let me switch it out because I am too picky. Well, when I've spend close to 10k with apple over the last year, I think I have every right considering the price they command on their products.
I wouldnt go to a dealership and buy a band new car that had had one or two rims curbed and take it home happy. It is still driveable, and nothing that would ruin the car but you get the point.
So now I'm on the phone trying to have them ship one out to me. I wish the apple store by me would get new management.

IPhone 3GS On-Screen Keyboard Problem!

The number, space bar and return key on my iPhone 3GS on-screen keyboard is not working until you tilt it to landscape mode! When I tap the number key, it activates the cap key. When I tap the space bar,depending on weather I'm taping the left, middle or right, it will activate the "X, C or B keys, respectively and when I tap the return/done key, it will activate the backspace key! This problem happened suddently about two days ago!
What on earth is the problem and can anyone please help me?

Try pushing the "home" button twice rapidly to get the multitasking bar to open. Hold on the icon for the app store for a few seconds until you get the option to close it. Then try reopening it and see what happens. That will probably fix it.

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Then try restoring on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem. Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source. Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all. In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?
