Screen Brightness Keeps Dimming

My new Sony SVS131290X laptop will not keep it's screen brightness lit.  It keeps dimming by itself.  I have tried setting the function + F6 key, going to power options and adjusting the brightness there, and also tried advanced power options.  It dims after 30 seconds.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi everyone, I just recently purchased a Sony Vaio Pro 11" and I have been struggling with this issue the past 2 days, and now I have a proposed solution! Prior to doing this I had tried two things (outlined below) and neither of them fixed the issue for me, so if you are in the same boat this might work for you too. WHAT WORKED for me was going to the graphics properties control panel:Right click on the Desktop home screen and select "Graphics Properties" > click the "Power" tab > click "On Battery" > and under "Display Power Saving Technology" click OFF That fixed all my auto-brightness adjusting woes. Hopefully this helps someone else  The two steps I took that didn't quite work:1. Went to Vaio Control Center > Image Quality > turned OFF the auto brightness = still had the dimming issue2. Went to the Start screen, scrolled down to the apps section and in the search bar > typed services.msc > opened up Services > clicked "Sensor Monitoring Services" > went to the drop down menu and changed from "manual" to "disabled" and restarted my laptop = still had dimming issue

  • Screen brightness to dim and unable to adjust using slider and buttons

hey guys ive had my macbook air about a week now and one night the screen decided to turn really dim all of a sudden i assumed this was due to me shutting down however the next day wen i turned it on again the screen was just as dim and when i try to adjust the brightness setting via the slider in prefrences or the f1 and f2 buttons nothing is happening,
have any of you had the same problem if so how did you get it solved
    cheers

you have to reopen the display adjustment in the System preferences, and Un-click the Automatically Adjusts Button. I kinda like this feature, but not all do, its an Apple thing, takes a bit of getting used to, saves the eye strain. I have noticed, as I am blind in my right eye, and tunnel vision in my left. that this is really good , and helps me a lot..
Play with the MBA , you'll figure it out..
    Have fun

  • MACBOOK - MY SCREEN BRIGHTNESS KEEPS FLICKERING

HAD THIS MACBOOK FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS NOW. WITH THE AC ADAPTOR IN, AS I USUALLY USE IT, THE SCREEN ON MY MACBOOK HAS BEEN "FLICKERING", THAT IS BECOMING BRIGHTER AND DIMMER. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? DO I NEED TO BRING IT TO THE STORE FOR REPAIR. I ASSUME THAT SOMETIME SOON, THE SCREEEN WILL GO COMPLETELY BLACK, IF I DON'T DO SOMETHING SOON.
    ADVICE, PLEASE.
    THANKS,
    TWON

My advice is don't type in capitals
Regarding the flickering screen, the usual solution is to replace the inverter board. You need to take your MacBook to an authorised repairer. I hope you took out the extended warranty or it will be expensive.

  • How do I restore screen brightness?

I'm working in Final Cut Pro 7 - my nephew pressed F1 several times causing the screen brightness to dim to nearly black.  What is the keystroke to restore the primary screen (I have dual screen and the secondary screen is 'normal' brightness). Help!
Okay. I'm an idiot. F1 dims F2 brightens.  Problem solved. Oh, I'm never going to live this down, am I?  Perhaps it's time for a nice bottle of wine.....

Happens to everyone on occasion but not everyone is man enough to admit it
You can change the output volume from System Preferences > Sound also.

  • Why does my screen keep dimming and brightening?

I'm just sitting here in front of my fire during a mid-March snow storm in Maine, and my screen keeps dimming and then brightening.  It's getting quite annoying. What is going on?

OK, I figured it out - it's the auto brightness adjustment. Found the answer in the pane to the right of my comment.

  • RANT:  Why does screen keep dimming even when "DIM" is disabled?

    ARGH this is buggin' me!
I turned off the dim under custom in energy saver. i am reading a document and it keeps dimming and it's annoying as doo doo. anything i can do?

What about the option of "Automatically adjust
brightness as ambient light changes" in
    Preferences/Displays?
    William
William - anyone with this problem I can guarantee
shut off every screen dimming option.
I have this issue. It seems to be intermittent.
What seems to improve it - Restarting, or unplugging
and re-plugging in the mag safe charger.
These have been my only solution. I have even turned
off all display changes for battery power so that
there shouldn't be any "confusing" factors for the
    computer.
I wouldn't care so much about this issue if it wasn't
for the screen whine with decreased brightness.
I trust apple will fix this with software or firmware
    updates.
I checked my 1.67 PB 15", it does what is being described. Software?

  • My screen keeps dimming automatically

My brand new Macbook Pro's screen keeps dimming the screen all the time regardless of which setting is it on. Its the first time it does that today and it's so annoying!!!! I have the following options: Put the hard disks to sleep when possible, slightly dim the display when using this power source, automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep and restart automatically if the computer freezes.... The only thing that is check marked is Put the hard disks to sleep when possible and automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep... Any advice? I googled a bunch of stuff but I don't have the options they give to help my problem such as un check the automatically adjust display or what not...
    Thanks

I dont have that option available....
You have to go to System Preferences > Displays (not Energy Saver where you were).
If you really don't have it, and you have an external display attached, that's the reason why. If that's the case, let me know, and I'll give you directions to do it.

  • My ipad2 screen keeps dimming and staying that way. And I can see the reflection of the app I most recently closed. Help?

My ipad screen keeps dimming and has ghost images of the previous open app. Can this be fixed? Help.

Did you ever resolve this issue?  I have an iPad with a similar problem.  After a software update the screen went very dim.  I have just finished trying to restore the iPad to the latest iOS 8.1.3.  The display is still very dim.  The backlight does change when you adjust the brightness slider but at maximum brightness it is just barely possible to see what is on the screen.  What makes me think this is software related is, like you said, there are remnants of previous screen images overlaying the current screen.  For example, when I restored the ipod, I enter DFU mode so the screen showed the "Connect to iTunes" images.  After restoring and rebooting there is not change but the "Connect to iTunes" images are still showing up on top of the normal screens.  Even if I power off the iPad and turn it back on that image still appears as if it is permanently burned into the LCD.  There are more previous screen images appearing underneath the current screen as well (e.g., I can see the System Settings window faintly under whatever screen I'm currently on).  Would like to know if your problem required a new logic board, new LCD, or if you were able to resolve it with software tricks.  Please respond if possible.

  • Q10 screen brightness is very dim in dark environment

In a dark environment the screen dims so much that reading text on a white background is terrible.  Is there a going to be an update to stop the auto brightness feature?

You're not the only one. This is a severe issue that will hamper sales for sure. The BlackBerry Q10's maximum brightness is the DIMMEST out of every other phone on the market today.
IN FACT, the maximum brightness on the Q10 is 22% the maximum brightness of the iPhone 5 (in lumens): http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/handys/2013/blackberry-q10-im-test/3/
BlackBerry is already getting a ton of flak for this issue, as many, MANY users are furious. See this comparison with the Bold 9930: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-q10-f272/very-dull-screen-brightness-level-q10-808915/index5...
There is also a few news articles circulating: http://www.newstimeafrica.com/archives/31992
I will be returning my BlackBerry Q10 tomorrow to Verizon Wireless for a full refund. Back to the Bold 9930 until a PROFESSIONAL product is released. I don't even mind straying away from BlackBerry at this point. Not making brightness control available to the consumer is a violation of trust.

  • Inconsistent Actions With "Dim Screen Brightness" Key (F1)

On the MacBook Pro, the F1 key is automatically mapped to dim the screen brightness. However, sometimes when I press this key, the screen shuts off (or at least goes to the lowest brightness setting) and other times it just goes down a single brightness point.
I can't figure out why it does one thing sometimes and another thing other times. Is there some logic afoot here? Or just whatever MacOS feels like on the day?
    thanks,
    tom

Could this be due to the present brightness of the screen or are you saying it could be at 90% brightness, then you press the F1 key, and the backlight turns off?
If it is dark in the room, the screen can be at its lowest setting, then pressing F1 will turn off the backlight.

  • Lcd screen keeping 'dimming'

I'm sure there is an easy fix for this.
I notice if i haven't used my computer for several minutes, the screen dims, and then quickly brightens againa as soon as i touch the trackpad or any keyboard button.
I have gone into the options listed under the battery icon. I have tried to set it to best performance, it still seems to occur, i have gone into custom and and energy saver and set the sliders for putting the screen and computer to sleep for both the battery and the power adapter to 15 minutes. I have locked the settings.
    It still seems to occur.
Peculularly, i often go back into this area, and the lock is UNlocked again, without me entering my password.
Is the screen supposed to dim? I find it annoying and would like to turn it off.

I can understand your frustration with this, and with some of the responses...
Check out that link in this thread, I have outlined "improvements" to the situation in the last post.
There is no official solution, and apple did not address my question during my last repair.
I will be setting up another pro care session within the next month and will try to reproduce this for them.
Supposedly this has been going on since the Powerbook Era, and is nothing new. Unfortunately I've only noticed it with the MacBook Pro, and never with my powerbook.
Keep an eye out, and eventually we will find the source of the problem.
    Now here's the REAL question:
Does anyone know if there is a log (say in console) of when/why/how the screen dims, much like there is a log of system sleeps???
I think that will answer our question, and find the source of our dimming despite all the appropriate settings UNCHECKED!

  • Why does my screen keep dimming?

Screen on macbook keeps dimming after a few seconds, even when I put it at the brightest and I'm in the middle of using it.

If that doesn't help, perhaps this is your cause:

Unfortunately, I haven't found the answer yet.

  • Screen goes from dim to bright? WHY?

my screen goes dim ..not really black but goes dim back and forth...why is this? i thought it was something related to the screen going dim before it sleeps but i noticed non of the boxes were checked. and as im writing this the screen goes dim and back to bright

    Hiya HOR,
no problem. The only thing you could perhaps try is (in system preferences/ displays) to adjust the brightness settings and see if that makes a difference.
Now, I must say that my (2006) macbook's screen is totally illegible in bright sunlight, even when changed to ignore the energy saver settings when on battery (i.e. best performance, rather than best battery efficiency). This did make the screen brighter for general use.
I was under the impression that yours flickers in response to activity (e.g. quick scrolling on browser); but now that you have described it, I think, the answer might be in system preferences. Good luck.
