Screen Captures shrinking in Mail

I use the feature a lot, taking snap of a portion of the screen, and dropping it in an email to send to someone, but recently whilst the screen capture is fine, when its dropped in an email, it shrinks!
To to point where its unreadable.
Dropping the image back from the email to the desktop confirms it...all detail has been taken out of it. The original screen capture is fine, but the mail effected one is useless.
Have I missed a wonderful new feature of Mail or OS X thats happened on some update??
Any answers anyone??? Is it a preference setting? Cause this is a major pain!

Bottom right corner of your new email message window is a dropdown for sizing
attachments. Choose large or full size(original?).

  • Why doesn't markup in Mail app work on screen captures or pasted images?

When in Mail app, If i right click and choose Capture selection from Screen I can take a screenshot which is inserted into the email.   The markup icon in the top right of the image never appears.  This is also true for images I copy and paste into the email.  It seems to me that being able to markup a screen capture is one of the most important use cases for this type of feature.

    SteveTEXAS,
When I right click and choose Capture selection. The image it places in the email will not show up on the recipients side. However if I use the Grab shortcuts on my Mac to take a screenshot then drag them in off the Desktop they not only show up on the recipients side, but Markup seems to work on them as well.
I have no idea what would cause this. I think it would be something important to provide feedback to Apple about. https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
You can find the Grab app in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities
Or you can use the keyboard shortcuts to take a screenshot. They will place them on your desktop.
    For a selection - ( Command ) ( Shift ) ( 4 )
    To select a whole window - ( Command ) ( Shift ) ( 4 ) > ( Spacebar ) > Click Window you want
    For whole display - ( Command ) ( Shift ) ( 3 )
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Yosemite mail screen capture issue

In new Mail if you try to insert a screen capture, using a right mouse click and selecting something on the screen, the selection is captured and inserted in the new mail as an image, but once you send the email the image disappear and the receiver does not receive any image...

Go to System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts and make sure you have the correct key sequence for what you want.
Also go to Help and do a search on "Screen Shot" and see what you can find as far as information.

  • Screen captures become corrupt as attachment in Mail

I have created a screen capture (with shiftapple4) which creates an PNG image on my desktop. Then I create a new email message and attaches the screen capture (not using the Windows compatible attachment mode) and sends it.
When doing like this the the attached image becomes corrupt. Regardless if I send it to myself (on my mac) or to a windows user using Thunderbird or Pine. I can't open the file and when I try to save the attachment to disk the file becomes empty (file size is 0 bytes). Pine gives a little more feedback and complains about errors in the Base64 encoding.
The thing is, that if I first open the PNG file in the Preview tool and saves it to a new PNG file (save as...) it all works! It also works if I simply copies the file to another computer (linux) and back (using scp). I have no problem of sending any other attachments than the screen captures. I think this is very strange!
Anyone have a clue what the error is?

  • How can I create a PNG or JPG screen capture or screenshot of the entire length of a long email message?

    Hi all,
I need to create screenshots of emails, but I need to image the entire length of those emails. Can I using Mail or any other email application? Here is what I have tried so far ...
I can only do a screen capture of the portion of the email that shows up on my 27" Mac. I can reduce the size of the emails somewhat, but usually not enough to capture their entire length.
I tried going through Gmail using Firefox + Awesome Screenshots plugin, but couldn't get Gmail to open entire page so as to capture it. Normally I view this Gmail account using Apple Mail.
"Printing" to a PDF is not an acceptable solution for my needs, because that changes the native formatting to fit the print / pdf format. I need to show the exact email layout as thought it were an actual email.
Any ideas? Thaks for your help.

Installed ScreenGrab add-on to Firefox and, sorry, it still only captures the window to the extent that it is open, and there is no way that I know to open an email window in Gmail so as to show the netire lengthof a long email message.
So, ScreenGrab helped me get more screen capture of an email, but still not yet the entire email. I used Save>Complete Page/Frame, but still no more than what is visible.
I'll keep looking. And thanks for your suggestion Sabatica.

  • Changing file type format in Screen Capture (shift command 4)

You'd think this would be in a preference menu! But it's nowhere to be found in any apps preference or system preferences.... I've seen posts how to do it in Terminal... and people sell programs to do it.... but Tiger and Leopard have t built in.. sort of....
The default file format when using SCREEN CAPTURE (ShiftCommand4) was a .pdf ... but then it was changed to .png Some people can't read .png... so I wanted my captures to be in .jpg format.
You can change the file format type of your SCREEN CAPTURE to any of the following:
JPG, JPG-2000, TIFF, BMP, PDF, Photoshop, PICT, SGI, PBG, TGA
But first you have to have a file you want to change (say it is a png).
    Open the file using Preview.
Once open, under File (in the menu bar) go down to SAVE AS.
There's you'll see FORMAT and a pull down menu. Choose which one you want...
Screen capture will now open your captured pictures in that format.
    Crazy, huh?

The OP here was using a keyboard shortcut, not Grabber.
I did some further exploring. I just tried TinkerTool again, and again was able to change the file format of saved screencapture files to jpeg. TinkerTool modifies the com.apple.screencapture.plist file the same way that the Terminal command does.
This clearly works for command-shift-3 and command-shift-4, which save the screencapture image as a file. However, on looking more closely at the O.P.s initial post in this thread, he/she actually said
    I use keyboard shortcut control/command/shift/4
When you include the control key in the command, the screencapture image gets saved to the clipboard instead of to a file, and you wouldn't normally be aware of its format until you pasted the clipboard contents somewhere else. I don't know where the OP was pasting it, but as was noted in the thread cited above by Baltwo, pasting a sceencapture image from the clipboard into a mail.app message results in a .tiff file being pasted. I also find this to be true in my system - perhaps this is what the OP was doing all along.
However this is an issue caused by the receiving app, not by the screencapture function. It's possible to look directly at the contents of the clipboard via:
    Finder>Edit Menu>Show Clipboard
With my screenshot format set to jpeg by TinkerTool, I used control-command-shift-4 to save a screenshot to the clipboard. Looking directly at the clipboard in Finder as above, the clipboard image was a jpeg. When I then pasted the clipboard contents into a mail message and used Mail>File Menu>QuickLook Attachments, the pasted graphic in the mail message was a .tiff.

  • Changing file type in screen capture to .jpg using Terminal

I am having trouble changing my screen capture function to .jpg. For some reason it is set to .tiff and
despite opening Terminal and typing in "defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg"
(no quotes) hitting return and restarting, it remains a .tiff
I have also tried: "defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg" (return)
"killall SystemUIServer" (return) and restarting.(No quotes)
Can someone tell me how to accomplish this? I use keyboard shortcut control/command/shift/4 and I'm running 10.6.4
    Thanks

  • Album and Screen Captures

    Minor annoyance:
When you take a screen capture and you want to crop it, to send it (or do anything to it), you press on it and the Tap To Set Location menu etc pops up. The probalem is that the menu pops up up ont he top and bottom, but the picture itself does nto shrink to fint.
So what you have is a picutre, in which you cannot see the top or the bottom and it makes it harder to figure out to figure out if this is the right picture if the top and bottom are important.
    Solution:
Can sony make it so that when the Tap To Set Locaion and the top portion of that) menu pops up, the picture shrinks to fit within those fields?
A lof of the other photo processing applicaiotns already resize to fit the screen, so that any menu that pops up, doe not actually block any part of the picture you are looking at.
    Thank you.

The bars are semi translucent.. they have some icons on them for actions such as delete, set location or send as sms ect.. They do block the top and bottom.
I cannot see the clock in the top right cornver of the screen shot, for example.
When the menus pop up, the clock on the screen shot gets replaced with the current clock and the current battery life etc. (same info as on the screen shot, but current, not from the time of the screen shot)
    Does that make sense?
I have to assume this is a general Sony Album behavior, not limited to Z1C

  • Please help! Screen Capture resolution for Flash

    Hi,
When I screen capture [using RoBo ScreenCapture] either web
pages off the Net, or dialog boxes of programs [I'm using Flash for
a presentation instead of PP] the images are pixelated or fuzzy or
    well, not good enough.
Let me explain In using RoBo, I make the capture at the
highest Jpeg resolution possible. When I bring the jpeg into Flash
[import directly into Library] and bring on the stage, I have to
resize the image because it is too big for the stage [being
800X600]. The projector I will be using for the presentation is
800X600.so I set the stage for that.
When I publish the file and review it [setting my monitor to
    800X600] the images look terrible.
Maybe I should explain that when I do the screen captures at
first, my monitor is set at 1600X1200.
Should I set it at 800X600 when doing the captures first? I
mean, does this affect the final output of the resolution of the
jpg's when they are placed in Flash after the capture and import
    into the Library?
I have had to make captures of web pages, so I have my
monitor set at 1600X1200 normally so I can get the most real estate
on the screen as possible. I make the screen captures using that
monitor setting. But I have my Flash movie stage set at 800X600.
    My questions are:
    1. Should I do the captures with the monitor set at 800X600
if the Flash stage is 800X600? If so, why?
    2. If the projector resolution is 800X600, can I set my Flash
stage at a higher size [resolution], say 1024X768? Will that
actually affect the resolution when the Flash movie is projected on
a projector with an 800X600 resolution if the Flash movie stage is
    larger?
    3. What affects the final resolution output of the BMP images
[jpeg's] in Flash for a presentation like I am doing?
    4. What size should I capture the images at so I don't have
    to resize them in Flash?
WHAH! I just want this presentation to be successful. It's a
training session on educating folks on computer virus
prevention/protection from and ID theft, something this world is in
    dire need of!
Thanks in advance form anyone who can help me,
    Ellen

    > monitor

    > Should I set it at 800X600 when doing the captures
    first?
A screen capture captures whatever number of pixels you are
    grabbing. If
your monitor is 1600x1200 and you capture the entire screen,
    then the
resolution you have captures is 1600x1200.
    Then two things are happening:
    1) you are making it a JPG, which is lossy compresion
    2) you are shrinking it to 800 x 600.
To shrink it, Flash has to 'throw away' 75% of the pixels of
    the original.
So, no matter what, you are ending up with a lower resolution
    image than
    what you started with.
    > 1. Should I do the captures with the monitor set at
    800X600 if the Flash
    > stage
    > is 800X600? If so, why?
That would make sense. Why? You can only show 800x600 pixels
    in your final
presentation. What's the point of capturing more than that?
    > 2. If the projector resolution is 800X600, can I set my

If the images are that resolution, then yes, if you increase
    the size of the
flash file, you should be able to see all of the pixels at
    that particular
    resolution.
    > 3. What affects the final resolution output of the BMP
    images [jpeg's] in
    > Flash for a presentation like I am doing?
As long as you bring the images in at 100%, the available
    resolution of the
    images shouldn't change at all.
    > 4. What size should I capture the images at so I don't
    have to resize them

    'Actual' size.

I'm not sure what RoBo is, but have you considered using a
    product like
RoboDemo for this type of thing? That should handle
    everything for you.

  • Screen capture tablet hp stream 8

how do i do a screen capture? vol- & windows ket does not work

    Hey @Faengelm ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're looking for information on taking screenshots with the Stream 8 tablet.
The shortcut you listed for Windows tablets does not work on the Stream 8. To take screenshots of desktop apps you will need to use the Snipping Tool. You can find this by searching Snipping Tool in the start screen.
If you want to share a screenshot of an app you can use the screenshot feature by swiping in from the right, selecting Share, and changing the dropdown at the top right corner to Screenshot and then selecting how to share the screenshot. Choices here are limited, and personally I use Mail to share a .png image by sending it to myself so that I can do what I need with the screenshot.
    Hopefully that helps.
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!

  • Screen capture blurry in final cut, but not Motion

I screen captured something from the internet using snapz pro (I tried DV-ntsc, h.264, and now using 'none'). It looks great when its motion, but after render, looks bad in final cut. I tried bringing the file into motion and then exporting a loss-less from there and then bringing into final cut, but its the same problem of being blurry.
the video was captured 4x3, though its larger than 720x480. Thats one of the reasons I threw it into Motion, because it would standardize the size in the case that final cut didnt like it. I need to get rid of the blur. help.
    eric

Also, if your file is LARGER in Motion, as you said, and then you drop it into a DV sequence, not only will it shrink, but it will inherit the DV 5:1 compression.
What size are you using in Motion? What settings? If you want it to look that good in FCP, you need to use the same settings in FCP. If you are adding it to a DV sequence, then you will have to live with the DV compression. OR, try it in a DV50 sequence. Better compression, higher bit rate.

  • Can Captivate make a movie like this? (Video, Audio, Screen Capture at once)

problem is, the application doesn't run on a Mac.
Others have said use a PC with Camtasia. Still others have

It sounds like you want to take a collection of different
types of clips (screen captures, Camtasia, video) and make these
custom edits and transitions. Adobe After Effects is what we use.
    Amazingly powerful.

  • Screen Capture Issue

In the past when I wanted to take a screen capture I would push Shift-Command-3. Then I would email it to someone by opening Mail and then attaching the screen capture and it would mail along a HUGE actual sized picture of the the sceen caputre. Now, when I do it just a small preview picture is sent and it is so tiny the person I am sending it to cannot make any details out whatsoever.
This seems to have been something that was changed in 10.5.3. How do I select to send the actual screen capture sized picture to whom it may concern?

Go to System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts and make sure you have the correct key sequence for what you want.
Also go to Help and do a search on "Screen Shot" and see what you can find as far as information.

  • Screen capture ability on iPad?

    Hiya!
Not sure if anyone can answer this just yet, but does the iPad also do screen captures like the iPod touch and iPhone can? You know--hit the home button+sleep button?
    Thanks

I noticed the screen capture in landscape mode going sideways into saved photos, also. I noticed this first after
typing up a recipe card in Pages that had an embedded picture. The good news is that it printed perfectly to 4 x 6 paper in my hp printer using same free hpprint app that is in my iPhone. The bad news is that once I synced and uploaded to iPhoto I had to duplicate the pic and rotate it counterclockwise. Then I could put it in a smart album, and sync to my iPad. But then iPhoto chops off the top and bottom when I print to 4 x 6 from iPhoto. Preview chops it also. So now, I use Pages to type card, screen capture so it prints perfectly to my hp, then have Pages do an email in PDF format. I go to iMac, open the mail and save to desktop, open PDF, use apple key shift and 4 key to screen capture with a wide margin and import to iPhoto and don't have to turn the photo.
I don't know what you are doing with your screen captures, but Photogene iPhone app will rotate pics. I think it was a free iPhone app and might work as is. Otherwise the fee based photogenic would probably rotate it also.
