Screen cleaning questions...

1) A while back, I noticed there was a spot on the screen (left side, over the black frame part). It was then I did something fairly foolish: I barely moistened a finger with my tongue and used that to get rid of the spot. I did this while the computer was shut down, and I'm relatively sure I made sure to dry out any extra moisture clinging to the screen. For another spot above that, I did what I was supposed to do: barely moisten a tissue with my tongue and use that to wipe out the spot. (Yes, I know saliva probably wasn't the best thing to use in either case; that's something I won't do again.) Again there, I'm relatively sure I made sure the screen was dry before shutting the computer lid.
This was at least five days ago. If any moisture got into the innards, would I know it by now?
(This computer is new enough, and I'm pleased enough with it, that I'm a little paranoid. I'm sure you Mac lovers know how that is. :D)
2) When I used the included cloth (dry) to wipe the screen clean of dust, the cloth itself got dusty (enough for gray streaks to be visible). How do I clean the cloth, so I don't get the screen dusty again next time I use it?
Thanks in advance.

1) Moisture ins't going to get inside the MacBook Pro from a wet finger on the screen.
2) Wash the cloth out in warm water and let it dry thoroughly before using it again.

  • Dead Pixels/Screen Cleaning Question

Hello, this is a two-part question.
First off, is it normal for a brand new (owned ~2 months) MBP to have a 3-4 dead pixels? Since I'm detail oriented and always carry around the cloth to lightly wipe away dust, they annoy the living crap out of me.
Second, I was wondering if there was a more efficient way to cleaning the screen. With the cloth, I feel like I'm wiping around (rather than away) the oil making smudges "worse." This goes for my 27" imac as well. I should've known. Big screens, bigger smudges.

I think this is an iMac G5. Or is it not? This is my iMac : http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.cheapest-ipod.com/images/new-i mac.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.cheapest-ipod.com/%3Fp%3D39&h=942&w=1000&sz=86&hl=e n&start=2&um=1&tbnid=pnMEMdkRG81hnM:&tbnh=140&tbnw=149&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dimac%2 6um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26sa%3DN
Please what should I do? Should I get new graphic card?

  • Monster Screen Cleaner on an antiglare screen

I know, I know. You're only supposed to use water when cleaning a MacBook Pro screen.
I have a late 2011 15" with a hi res antiglare screen. Water was fine for a while, but I was recommded Monster Screen cleaner for both my MacBook and my LCD TV. I had heard that it was quite safe from several sources, so I used the supplied microfibre cloth moistend with Monster to gently clean my MacBook screen.
At first it looked great. Now that it has dried, I notice a "vignette" around the edges of my screen: the edges that meet the bezel are darker where I didn't reach with my cloth. With light on my screen, I can easy see where I wiped with Monster, and there are some subtle streaks across the surface where I wiped.
Moreover, to my eyes, there is more glare from direct light over the general surface than in the un-wiped corners. So my question is: do antiglare MBP screens have an antiglare coating? Could I have removed this with a gentle wipe with Monster solution? I supposed I assumed that the antiglare propery was simply the matte surface of the screen, to be contrasted with the glossy layer on stock MacBooks.
I am incensed, because many parties including Mac professionals have recommended this stuff to be safe and effective.
Has anyone had a similar experience with their antiglare screen?

All I can relate to you is that I use Windex Electronics cleaner (NOT regular Windex) using a small microfiber cloth to apply it and a large one (12"x15") to wipe it with great success.  No film, spots or residue.  I recommend it and I receive no compensation from the manufacturer.
    Ciao.

  • IMac screen cleaning product advice.

    Hi,
I note the Apple Store (device care) offers Techlink products but not specifically for a iMack screen.
What is safe and recommended to keep my iMac screen clean.
    Cheers.

I always follow Apple's advice on how to clean a display, they describe it in How to clean Apple products

What is the best way to keep my retina screen clean?

I use Windex Electronics Cleaner on the MBP displays.  I spray some on a small microfiber cloth and wipe the display.  Then I use a large microfiber cloth to dry it.  When finished, the display looks like the day it came out of the box.

DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH ORDINARY WINDEX WINDOW CLEANER!

  • Screen Order in OPA ( Summary Screen to Question Screen)

    Hi All
I designed both Summary screen and Question screen in OPM. How to create the screen order so that summary screen will call specific question screen instead on Automatic screen?
    Thanks
    Dev

    Notes on terminology:
OPM is the development environment. It is where you write rules in Word and Excel documents, create screens etc, etc.
OPA is a generic term for the technology as a whole but is usually used to refer to actual deployments of the rules engine itself. You provide the engine with data in some way (dependent on your deployment channel) and it gives you back an answer in some way. There are various extension mechanisms available to allow you to do things like get information in from a web-service.
So in answer to your question (as you phrased it):
There are no mechanisms that ship with the product to have data consumed by OPM which is the place that you create rules for later execution in OPA. You would have to code something specifically to do whatever it is you want to do.
What benefit will the web-service provide to someone creating rules? Why do you want to pass information from a web-service into the rules development environment? I'm not saying that there is no use case, I'm just saying that it's not one I've ever heard people ask for before (except in those cases where they got the terminology confused and were actually asking about how to use web-services with OPA but said OPM).
Assuming that you still think this is something you want to do can you please explain why you would want to do that? (If you can explain your use case then that can help the team who build the product to think about ways that they could make it easier in the future)
If you want to know what mechanisms there are for OPA (the rules engine) consuming data that is a different question from the one you asked and for which Jasmine has given you a lot of links to further information - so I'd suggest you read up on them and then refine your question if they do not provide the answer.
If you can make a clearer statement of what you're trying to achieve then you're more likely to get a useful answer (not me, I don't know much about using web-services other than using ODS - Oracle Determination Server - a deployment of the OPA rules engine with a web-service wrapper).

  • Screen Cleaner for New iMac

What is a good screen cleaner for the new iMac? I've tride normal glass cleaner and it is a glass screen but i seemed to just make a mess. Please help!

" Never use Windex or equivalent products."
I'll second this suggestion. When I first cleaned my new 2013 21.5" iMac, I used
a "windex" type cleaner, and it made a mess (streaked and everything).  I actually though it was so bad that I had damaged the screen.  Fortunately, with water and a microfiber cloth I was able to clean off the "windex" streaking.
The thing is, the new 2013 iMac screen covering is more "plastic like" in material, and not as "glass like" in materials (as previous iMacs may have been), so it may be easier to damage (scratch) the screen surface if care isn't taken.
Always use a soft microfiber cloth (preferably with no sewed cloth edges - find a seamless edge microfiber cloth), to clean the new iMac screens.
If you need to, this "auto" microfiber cloth is one of the best:
    Mothers Ultra-Soft Polishing Cloth 16"x16" - Mothers MOT-155200
They are a hard to find style and are "no seam edgeless" style ... meaning they don't have a threaded sewed edge. Often many cheap microfiber cloths are made using a polyester sewing thread around tghe four outer edges, and even though the microfiber cloth itself may not scratch .... the four sided sewed edges can really scratch badly without knowing it.

  • How can I keep my screen clean?

How can I keep my screen clean? What can use to clean it?

    May depend on the screen.
A CRT usually has a glass cover. Twenty years infront with a periodic careful spray of Windex works for me.
Laptops are another matter. Best bet is to go by the product manual.
However, having said that, my 30 plus years of nautical experience led me to use WD 40. Of course I was boating long before I owned my first computer. Thus when one of the boating mags recommended using WD 40 and a soft cloth on my marine electronics, e.g., radar, loran, radios, gages, etc., keyboard and screens, it worked so well that I also used it on my laptops' screens and keyboards (at home and on the boat)
Just my experience. Not for all.

  • Grey screen with question mark on boot up.

My son's 2011-12 Macbook Pro displays a grey screen with a question mark and will not boot.  I pulled  that first drive, put that first drive in a USB cage and connected the USB cage  through a USB port and could boot a different machine with the first drive.  I put a brand new second drive with a formatted and journaled OSX drive in place of the original first drive in my son's macbook pro machine tand got the same grey screen and question mark.  Do I need a new electronics board?  If so that is a $500 repair and not worth it on a 3 year old machine.  Thoughts?

It could be anything at this point - most likely, it seems, is that you've a faulty SATA cable. If you go to www.ifixit.com you can find the Apple part number for the cable (or buy the cable at ifixit, even) and search eBay for the part number (much less expensive on eBay and I've yet to hear of one from eBay having failed).
    I'm betting that's the problem.

  • Most of the time when I turn computer on I get the white screen and question mark.  Sometimes it will turn on and work but often the spinning disk starts and especially when opening Iphoto and it generally freezes

Most of the time when I turn on the Mac I get the white screen and question mark appear.  Sometimes it will turn on and work. But often the coloured spinning wheel starts up especially after trying to use iphoto it freezes and a couple of times the screen has then gone black.  The computer seemed pretty warm yesterday when this happened.
Any suggestions of what I should do to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

  • What to use, to remove finger prints and screen clean

    HI all
I am wanting to know what the best thing is, to remove finger prints off my MBP and generally keeping the screen clean. I do use that cloth that came with my MBP. Sometimes I need to rub it a few times to remove finger prints, but is there any liquid of spray or anything anyone recommend. Or what would be the best way? I know the manual says use a damp cloth. But I am worried if its damp a little it wont work, or if its too damp it might damage my screen?

My Desktop Mac won't startup, it turns on to the grey screen flashing question file. I have been able to startup from the snow leopard install cd but once I try to repair within DU the disk never appears in the side panel. The only thing there is "Media"... What can I do? Help!

If Disk Utility cannot see your drive it doesn't look good.
You could try DiskWarrior. It is expensive but can often fix directory structures where DU cannot.
Replacing the drive is also a strong likelihood. If you don't have a fairly recent backup, then it might be worth buying DiskWarrior

  • Black MacBook Owners - Cleaning Question

Hi, I realize the cleaning issues has been beaten to death here but I could not find anything regarding specific questions regarding stains and smudges on the black macbook outer case. I have some stains from fingerprints on the case. I tried wiping it with a damp cloth but they are still there and it looks like the water may have added to the smudges (I made sure the terry cloth was squeezed of all excess water). All of this is not really noticeable unless you hold the machine at an angle to the light but it is troubling nonetheless being that the machine is less than a month old...Does anyone use a special product to clean their BLACK MacBook outside case?

I'm just scared to clean my screen... it's dirty and dusty on a crazy level. I do the same wet paper towel/dry toilet paper thing as aboved mentioned for the rest of the machine and it works great. Def be sure to watch the quailty of these paper products tho, I use those really soft thick paper towels.. Don't use kleenex tho cause it's got lotion in it!

  • MacBook Pro 13" Screen Issue Question

    Hey guys
I have this strange area on my MacBook Pro screen that is noticalby brighter than the rest of the screen. I've tried using the screen capture function, but the patch doesn't show up on that images generated. Here's a photo i took with my iPhone
    xtjied.jpg
It's the area near the centre of the photo where the issue is present. It is easier to see on the photo if you move away from the screen, so you're further away, then it stands out more. However i can see it clearly when using the MBP on my lap or on a table.
My MacBook is still in warranty, so my questions are:
    A) Should i take my machine to the Apple Store to show them the issue?
    B) What are they store likely to do, will they replace the screen, replace the machine or simply turn me away and tell me the issue doesn't warrant action?
Even though it might seem like a small issue, once i see it whilst working my vision is drawn to it, so i lose focus on the rest of my screen.
    Thanks in advnace
    Tom

Thanks for you response, I just want to check you're seeing the same error i am, i know the photo looks like there's a large area with a different brightness, but that's just because of the way I was positioned when taking the photo.
Here's a better photo to illustrate the issue i'm having
    http://i.imgur.com/mDogr.jpg
It's the small area just off centre that is a different colour to the rest of the image.
    http://i.imgur.com/UF8c9.jpg
it kind of looks like a thumb print, but it's not
Would you still expect them to replace/repair my machine?
    Thanks again

  • My macbook fell and since then a white screen with question mark appears

    hey guys!
i really need to know what to do, my macbook fell while it was on. it froze so i restarted it, but the white screen comes in with the apple begining sound and everything but the screen stays blank for about two minutes and then a folde with a question mark appears. i tried putting in the cd that came with it, samething happened but after a while the appe sign appears and the computer started off my installation disc, so i try re installing everything, but when i get to the screen that asks to select a destination, there is nothing available.
i realize that the best thing to do is to go to an apple store and then sort everything out, but i am in haiti where the nearest apple store is in miami, i really need your help and i'm desparate cuz i cannot do anything without my laptop... please send me your help as soon as possible.
    thanks in advance

Your hard disk has been damaged. At this point, it will need to be replaced with a new one. You'll need to call AppleCare and they'll have you mail it in for repairs. I'm not sure what the usual turnaround time for that is internationally, but in the United States it's about a week. I'd tack on a few extra days to get the laptop to and from Haiti.
Either way, your computer will need to be repaired and the data that was on your hard disk will be lost. (Unless you take the machine to a 3rd party repair shop that specializes in recovering data from damaged hard disks.)
