Screen collapses to single white line

I have my iMac hooked up to a Trinitron Monitor via a VGA cable. Recently the display collapsed to a single white verticle line in the middle of a black screen, as if the screen image had been compressed into a half centimetre/third of an inch in the middle of the screen.
I turned it off and the display is now back full screen as it were, but no doubt this problem will reappear at some stage.
Anyone with any ideas - I would be extremely grateful if you could share them with me.

Well, hopefully my problem is solved - I found an identical monitor for twenty quid.
The older monitor seems to be back working but now with a thick hairline scorch mark running down the middle. Providing I have a back up monitor then I think I can stop worrying.

Has anyone else has seen this problem with their iPod touch 5th Generation with iOS 7.0.4. My screen started making flashing white lines across the screen, then went dim, then pixeled with purples

The ipod will show flashing white lines across the screen, going down, it then does somthing where the screen will dim down but its not like when the backlight goes on and its about to lock. It dims the background of your ipod and the icons and letters kind of all look defined. Then the ipod gets all pixelized and it has big boxes on pixels and its all differnt colors like purples and greens, red, etc. then it turns right off and restarts itself less than 5 seconds later. These things happen really fast but when it does it's really weird. It first happened 3 times in a row, Its still continuing to happen but i can manually turn off my ipod by holding the lock button down and not even 30 seconds later it's like its possessed and it turns on by itself. I talked to somone on appel and they told me to back it up and restore it. I restored it and as soon as the process ended and tuirned on like a brand new ipod and like clockwork the glitch happened instantly. It did it a couple of times throughout the night and i kept having to watch it so i can keep turning it off manually because it continues to turn on by itself. I talked to 3 different people on Apple Support and they couldnt even find an answer for me. It's so weird.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

Display malfunction- vertical lines on screen - blue, green, and white lines

My 3 week old passort shut down after running out of battery. After recharging, lines appeared on the display and won't go away. I tried serveral restarts.
There are blue and green vertical lines on the left edge of the display and four our so white lines near the bottom of the screen.
Any suggestions?

New icon on screen - yellow circle with white lines with a 1 next to it - what is it please?

New to hear so please bear with me..
i have had my blackberry for about a month and a new icon has appeared (next to where the message icon normally sits). It shows a '1' next to a yellow circle with white lines through it.. I have a feeling it is to do with email but dont know what it is or how to get rid of it... i have no new messages waiting to be read ...

IPad mini first gen screen sudden black and White lines

wondering if anyone could help regarding my ipad screen. suddenly has white and black lines flashing across screen and will not stop. Already hard reset it and tried DFU mode but still no joy. Also says before It cut off completly that wi fi is not available at all as if it wasn't even a feature of the ipad, really baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Seems you've already tried the common fixes for these types of odd issues. My hunch is that if the procedures you've tried have done nothing, it may be hardware related and a possible trip to the Apple Store's Genius Bar would be your next move to get to the bottom of the issue. m tired of sending my device to the service station.

fault at the display feed cable that runs thru the hinge.
slowly move your display and see if the lines flicker off and on.

It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.

Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity. A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less. Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

Weird horizontal white lines going across the screen

I've had my nano 4g for around six months. When I first bought it, there was a single white line going across the top of the screen. It never really got in the way, so I didn't bother exchanging the ipod. Recently, another white line of pixels appeared lower on the screen. This line is there even while I reset it.
Besides replacing the screen or exchanging the iPod, is there anything that I can do to fix this?

It may (likely) be a video card issue. There is a "known issue" with certain iMacs made in a certain timeframe (2011-12 I think), and one of the telltale symptoms is vertical lines showing up on your display. Go to Apple's website (https://getsupport.apple.com/) to find out how to get support, then either call their service line (they usually pick right up) or take it into your nearest store's Genius Bar. They'll first check if your iMac's serial number is on the list of vulnerable machines, and then they'll have to do a diagnostic to prove that's the problem -- if your serial number's on the list and it fails the diagnostic, they'll replace the video card for free, even if you're not covered by AppleCare (and if you are, it's free regardless).
My iMac just had this problem, there were lines sometimes and just weird display issues other times. Eventually it just grayed out altogether and I couldn't use it. So it's likely your display problems will worsen if you don't get it looked at.
It took them about a week to ship the new video card over, install it, and return the iMac to me.

Black screen with white line

I have a late 2009 Macbook. Ocasionally when i open it up, i get a black screen with a bright white line at the bottom of the monitor. Rebooting and closing the laptop doesn't change anything. I can connect it to an external display and the display appears pefectly on the other screen, while the mac remains black with a white line at the bottom. If i take off the bottom cover plate, and touch a new random things, the screen will return to normal, but flicker initially. This has now happened 3 times, and i can't seem to make any sense of it. After reading online i can't see to find any problems on this MC207ll/a macbook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You obviously broke the screen when the phone was dropped. Apple doesn't repair the screen on an iPhone 4; it will replace the phone for $149.

Upon updating 5.1 iphone 4 blacked out with white line through screen and nonstop vibrating

i was updating lastest version my iphone 4 through icloud until screen blacked out with white line in middle of screen and started vibrating non stop.
tried a hard and soft reboot NOTHING WORKED
phone died
put back on charger
same problem screen would brown out and fade to black.
now it won't turn on.
fed up #FIX

phone lost full charge upon charging again now i have colored lines running horizontal through screen then vertical.
hard restart does nothing again.
but its no longer vibrating.

White lines three appeared on my ipod classic screen. It has never been dropped or screen scratched. Suddenly white lines appeared on the screen. Tried to reset settings, nothing changed. Is this a common issue with ipod classic coz apple adviser denying ever having heard of this problem and I have to pay half of msrp to fix it. Offered 10% off to purchase new ipod and turn in old one. What a waste. Apple should take responsibility if this problem is indeed inherent with this product.

The magnets are tnot the cause.
Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem.
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore tofactory defaults/new iPad
If still problem then time for an appointment at teh Genius Bar of an Apple store. The drops may have damaged it or there could be another cause.
