Screen compatibility for Portege 4000

the screen on my portege 4000 has just gone.a new screen would be more than the thing is worth.there are plenty of old toshiba laptops on auction sites for spares, does any one have a list of compatible screens that will fit the portege lcd connectors?. laptop model, type etc.

I dont found many informations about the display in the Portg 4000 but in my knowledge its Toshiba VF2072P01 12 screen with the 1024x768 resolution

  • Replacement Screen Compatibility for HP G50-112NR Laptop

So my little son broke the laptop screen on my G50-112NR Laptop, and now I need a new one.
I have been told by HP that I need the 15.4-inch WXGA+ widescreen Bright View (BV) screen. eBay, as I have found, has this screen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-LCD-15-4-INCH-WXGA-WIDESCREEN-Part-432298-001-/350473798785. Is this screen compatible - I mean, it's HP, 15.4-inch, WXGA, so it should work, yes?
I know this screen I found on eBay is a WXGA screen of a lower resolution than the original WXGA+ part, but the WXGA+ displays are also prohibitively expensive for me. They start at $130, which is probably more than half the worth of my laptop. I am not looking to upgrade to a newer HP laptop yet, but I probably will in a year and a half, so I don't want the screen to be such a money-sink for a PC I will retire so soon.
Thank you in advance for any replies.

  • Need new keyboard for Portege 4000/4010

Anyone know where I can get a replacement keyboard for this model notebook? The part number on the back of the keyboard is UE2025P03KB-EN
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Ray
Sorry but I dont understood why you ask this question. It is logic that you can choose between brand new or used parts. New parts you can order by Toshiba service partners in your country or by some independent PC shop. You have part number and I recommend you to use Google to find out where it can be ordered.
If you will used parts you can check eBay or also see if you can find something on the net.
    Thats all!!!

  • Satellite Pro 6100 screen compatibility

    Hello!
Is there a place i can check screen compatibility for my Toshiba SP 6100?
I have damaged a screen on one of my laptop and would like to replace it.
    Thanks

    Hi
The problem is that Satellite Pro 6100 was delivered with four different displays.
    14.1' (1024x768) TFT colour display,
    15.1' (1024x768) TFT colour display,
    15.1' (1400x1050) TFT colour display,
    15.1' (1600x1200) TFT colour display
I have found a information that a P000334230 (LTN150X4-L01) screen is compatible with your unit.
    http://www.getpartsonline.com/p000334230.html
But I recommend asking the Toshiba service partner in you country for compatible screens.

  • Portege 4000 powers down after 20 mins

My Portege 4000 turns off abruptly after about 20 minutes, sometimes it holds our for 30-40 mins.
It then won't power back on for a few hours.
Here's what I've tried, and it still happens:
-On AC, with and without battery
-With a different (identical) AC apator
    -Unplugged running on battery
-Held at BIOS screen (incase it was a Windows issue)
The fan is working, although it doesn't feel very powerful.
And the power LED is flashing an error code (how can I decode this?).
Although I don't really use it very much, I really don't want to junk my little Portege.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
It sounds like a notebook overheating if the temperature is too high the notebook shuts down to prevent the hardware from damage
But the flashing error code is unusual. In my knowledge the long means 1 and short 0
Then you will get a number like for example this: 0001 0001 because of LSB (least significant bit) you have to read from behind 1000 1000 then convert it in HEX. Thats all
    Check also this:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=16497&messageID=60354
But listen buddy I think you should contact the service technician the guy should check this notebook the fault is a little bit strange

  • What is new in BIOS v3.0 for Portege R830, R840 and R850 series

    Hi
Toshiba released updated BIOS version 3.00-WIn on the 11/08/2011.
Has anybody installed this and/or know what it covers?
I hesitate to install without knowing what may be altered.
    Many thanks for any comments.

    Hi
As far as I know Toshiba European driver page does not provide details what has been changed in the new BIOS versions. But I found the Toshiba US driver page and there you can find all the details about the BIOS changes.

  • Portege 4000 - RAM upgrade & graphic card driver installation

I'm having a few issues with my Portege 4000 at the moment. I installed XP on one disk, but will need more RAM as I only have 256MB...
    - Have tried 2 manufacturers but the PC133 512 isn't compatible. However my system has an IBM chip of PC100 256 in it, which was bought at an earlier stage last year, after much trial and error, and I'm now wondering whether the motherboard will be more suited to PC100 rather than PC133?
    - Am considering alternative options to XP, namely 98SE or 2000 as these are lighter operating systems. I can put this on an alternative (test) disk. Is it possible to set up a partition for the Recovery CD Rom (which has 98SE) on it and have some space left over for installing another Linux o/s or does its partition manager overwrite everything?
    - I have put another post for .exe drivers relating to the display/vga for 98SE and 2000.
    - Just fyi, not all Linux distros seem to pick up on the monitor size, so this takes some work...
    Many Thanks for any help.

    The Protege 4000 is compatible with PC133 modules! As far as I know you can upgrade this notebook's RAM to 1GB (1024MB) and you could use these modules;
    PC133 512MB (PA3108U-1M51)
    PC133 256MB (PA3086U-1M25)
    PC133 128MB (PA3085U-1M12)

You could create some partitions on the HDD using an 3rd party tool like Partitions Magic 8. I use this tool and it's really nice.
After you have created 2 or three partitions on the HDD, you could install different OS (operating systems.)

  • Can I use 80GB in Portege 4000?

I am tired of looking for a suitable hard drive for my Toshiba Portege 4000 (PIII) laptop. The only ones available come in 80GB. Is there any way I can fit that hard drive size in my laptop? I must know this before I buy one.

Very hard to say if the BIOS will recognize the new inserted 80GB HDD.
As far as I know the Portg 4000 was delivered with the 20GB HDD.
Hmm in my personal opinion the 80GB could works but cannot say it for sure!!!
You will have to test it because the Toshiba does not provide any official informations about the compatible HDD sizes.
What you need is a HDD which supports an IDE interface. You could buy one with ATA5 (U-DMA 5 100MB/sec) but it will run only at 66MB/sec due to the HDD controller limitation.

  • Portege 4000 - W2K installed - Wireless connection problem

I have installed W2K on the Portege 4000. XP was too resource heavy for this system.
Having installed the Cisco wireless LAN driver (3.5.13.0) from your website, I am unable to get a wireless connection. In XP this comes up automatically with an icon. The network device switch I also installed didn't help.
    I have the following:
    Local Area Connection - ethernet
Local Area Connection 2 - wireless
Even if LAC 2 is enabled this still doesn't pick up wireless.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Puh Windows 2000 is an older system. I didnt remember all the settings for WLan connection and therefore I have googled a little bit.
and I found a interesting page and short description how to set Wlan connection in W2k.

  • Portege 4000 - XP installed - cannot play dvd's

I have installed XP as a clean install on a Portege 4000 which previously had 98SE on it.
Now I'm unable to play dvd's in Windows Media Player and am getting a message that it needs an MPEG-2 decoder, however Microsoft are transferring me a site where I need to pay: [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx#DVDDecoder].
Is there any way around this?
The cd is working ok and there doesn't seem to be a need for an acoustic silencer at the moment.

    Hi
If you need an MPEG-2 decoder then I would recommend installing some codec packages.
+K-Lite Mega Codec Pack+ contains all needed (and more) codecs.
    You should try it.
PS: Why you don't use any 3rd party players? For example the *VLC player* is for free and it's a great player. It handles all possible files.
    Cheers mate

  • Portege 4000 - video expantability?

Just a simple question, my portege 4000 stutters while playing a DVD (video and audio), if it's possible I want to expand the video capacity in any way possible, if it is possible that is.
Please could somebody answer my question, or give some advise in fixing this annoying problem...
    Thanx,
    Mickel Boom, Holland

    Hi Mickel,
I don't think the limitation is with you graphics card because playing a DVD does not generally make very heavy demands of the graphics card, unlike some of the later PC games.
I would suggest that you check in task manager for any other tasks that may be running which are consuming CPU cycles.
    regards,

  • Portege 4000 - video card

Hi, I have a Portege 4000 and the computer detects the video card but i cant install a driver onto it. One other problem is my computer doesnt detect my wireless WiFi.
    Can somebody help me out?

    Hi,
you can get a recovery CD from a Toshiba service partner, but a have to pay for it. You can find a service partner on this site:
    https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
under "Support & Downloads" and "Find an authorised service"

  • Firefox can't open normally without going through the "this is embarrassing" routine; nor does it close down properly; it also sticks frequently, i.e. screen freezes for a minute or more; should I uninstall and re-install to try and debug?

Firefox can't open normally without going through the "this is embarrassing" routine; nor does it close down properly; I get the "end program" message and have to say "end now"it also sticks frequently, i.e. screen freezes for a minute or more; should I uninstall and re-install to try and debug?
    - I've used Firefox exclusively for around 2 years.
    - My outlook express has no problems
    - other programs seem unaffected; it seems peculiar to Firefox.
    - my main use is surfing the net, primarily entering competitions on line via specialist competition sites.
    - every day at some stage(s) I have to switch computer off as Firefox has got very slow/sticky/freezes.
I'm not techy by any means, but I can only thing of un- and re-installing to hopefully start with a clean slate.

Sounds like something is keeping Firefox from closing properly. See this: <br />

  • Memory upgrade on Portege 4000

I bought memory to upgrade my Portege 4000 (128mb SDRAM SODIMM 144pin) when I installed this in the empty slot and turned on laptop the green light at the top came on, the power led but nothing booted and no noise to suggest anything had booted either!
I took this new module out and left the original in there and it booted perfectly. Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance !

Its a clear case dude either the memory module is faulty or you use a not compatible and not supported one!!!!
The Portege 4000 supports max 1024MB (2x512MB) memory.
I think you should try the Toshiba recommended memory SDRAM modules like these:
    PC133 512MB (PA3108U-1M51)
    PC133 256MB (PA3086U-1M25)
    PC133 128MB (PA3085U-1M12)
    Good luck

  • When I go to a website, it half-way downloads and then the screen freezes for 10-20 seconds while ads appear; this never happened till recently.

Until recently, I loved Firefox. Lately, when I go to any website and try to download a page, the screen freezes for between 10-20 seconds while ads load. Why the screen freezes is both frustrating and annoying. I have the latest version, nothing on my computer is different, and as I said, it didn't used to do this. Any ideas what's going on?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
