Screen contrast is off (shows greys as white)

Hi,
Every time I restart my MBP 17", the colours are off. I can fix it by plugging it into an external monitor and unplugging it, but it's a bit of a pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem awhile back, where upon waking from sleep or booting in everything would have a blue shift, until I opened system prefs, clicked on displays (wherein it would switch to the right color profile). It went away some time after. Are you fully updated?
Also trying running colorsync in your utilities folder, and repairing all your color profiles.

Ive had my iphone for 3 1/2 weeks Out of nowhere my iphone 4s got all weird. My screen fades from black to grey into white. ive tried to reboot it it doesnt work. i also pressed the middle button and the power button for like 10 seconds and nothin happens. it turns off sometimes when i press the two buttons.
Then it just turned on like it supposed to, a few hours later it happened again. it all happened yesterday. then today i got on itunes to restore the phone to see if it works better then then while it was syncrnizing eerything into the phone it happened once again. i really dont know what to do! has anyone had the same or a similar problem? would it work if i just restore it and just make it a "new" phone ?

While in the B/W desktop go to the System/Accessability preference pane and check to see if this checkbox is selected:
If it isn't toggle it on and then off again and see if there's any change.

Grey and white tripes on display

After the last upgrade (coincidence or not) after booting the display only shows grey and white irregular horizontal stripes (thin). As I start opening windows and where these open the stripes disappear until all the screen is normal. What on earth is happening. Never seen this on any type of computer PC or Mac.
Is this a problem with the graphics card. The Imac is not even one year old and very light usage.

I just went over an looked at a friend's 24" iMac which had this same issue after installing the 10.5.5 and latest QuickTime updates. AppleCare had no suggestions. I tried resetting the NVRAM and PRAM. The iMac started up correctly twice and the third time the screen display problem occurred again. Opening up the displays pref pane and changing the colors from millions to thousands eliminated the glitch and I immediately reset the color depth to millions. As long as the computer is running there is no problem. It only occurred at startup or right before shutdown and even then sporadically. I'm convinced it is a software glitch but beyond a belief I have no data on which to base that assertion.

I turned on the ipad and plugged it up, when I touched the button on the bottom, it flashed as if the screen was coming up, but instead it scrolled grey and white lines, halfway across the screen and has been doing so for about an hour now. How can I fix this? I need it for school. Am I going to have to send it back? And if so, will they send me a replacement while I am waiting for mines to be fixed?

You might connect the iPad to its wall charger for half an hour, to be sure there is enough juice to get started.
That sounds like an internal problem, as you suspect. If you can show it to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a replacement on the spot.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center. There may be one in your city. I do not know how long it would take, or if a "loaner" would be available. Whether they can fix it on site would depend on what the problem is. <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>
One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) the iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. If it works, the iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

Screen displaying lighter greys as white

I have an issue that occurs every time I start my MBP: when it starts up, the lighter shades of grey are displayed as white. When I plug the MBP into a monitor and the screen flashes blue, the colors are corrected. Does anyone know what the issue could be?

My 2 + yr old MBP has display issues as well. When I goto the Apple web site and 'configure' a MB AIR, the accessory items show as white on white. The same page ona new MBP shows as beige/grey on white. On my MBP I can't even see the images.... When I took it into my local Apple dealer he "Configured" the graphics for me but then weird writing appeared on the browser top and on the Apple 'task bar' at the bottom weird graphics showed up.
This machine has beem this way since day 1. I hope Apple will fix it.

Not all carriers allow that to be set using preferences in the phone. Contact your carrier.

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .

The following support article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running 10.7 or later) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.
