Screen corrupts on going to sleep

Running OSX Lion (freshly reinstalled ),  have family of 4 users on one iMac 21.5 (2010 model).
Only started 2 months ago, on returning to the iMac when it has gone to sleep the screen has frozen on the last image accessed. Waving the mouse over screen reveals the login screen below (removing it large pixel by large pixel) allowing us to login.
Have tried turning off screen savers for everyone, but hasnt worked.
Any ideas anyone

At the bottom of your thing it says you are using 10.7.1. Is this correct? If so, run Software Update first, and see where that takes ya. From there, if you are still having issues with the black screen, try opening Disk Utility, and hit Verify Disk. If this comes up with errors, re-start your computer holding the Option button down, from there, select Recovery Disk as your start up disk. You will be able to locate Disk Utility in there, and you can Repair Disk from there.
If it does repair disk successfully, that could be part of the problem. If that doesn't work, follow the steps in this article to reset PRAM/NVRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Even still, if that doesn't seem to correct the problem, i would back up everything on your computer to an external harddrive, erase, and re-install 10.6, run Software Update a few times, check the app store for the digital download of Lion....you should not need to "buy" this again, it should see it in the purchased section..
Update again with Software Update when you get the successful re-installation of Lion. I'm not 100% positive with the whole re-installation steps, if it walks you through going through the Migration Assistant or not, but even if it doesn't, that's okay. You can still locate Migration Assistant via the Utilities folder and bring back all your Time Machine stuff again.
Still if you want to dig even deeper to see if there is a problem with your hardware, you can run Apple Hardware Test. Check this article for steps...http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

  • Screen corrupted after wake from sleep

My screen on my 2 week old iMac comes up pixelated leaving square trails mimicking the movement of the mouse. I have had consultations twice with Apple support junior team members, looking forward to a senior team member reviewing my case. It looks like some sort of eraser wiping the blank dark screen revealing the login screen underneath. Any ideas?
Oh by the way my first iMac was sent back due to dead pixels, how unusual is that?

I'm having the same issue with my 13" MacBook Pro.  I restored it and the issue is still there, albiet very intermittent.
Here's a picture of my MacBook experiencing the issue (note the trails caused by moving the cursor around):

  • Grey Screen while running a dvd/Sleep Mode

    Hello everyone,
I have a Mac pro G5 PowerPC running leopard. I recently just did the apple updates on my computer and ever since then when I have a dvd in my computer after awhile I get the grey screen saying that I need to restart my computer. This has happened about 10 times since I did the update a few days ago. When it reboots I get the message saying that my OS X had stopped responding. I go to send the apple report and take a look at what it is sending and it is something about a kernal. I had a co worker recently say that his computer was doing the same thing with the grey screen when it goes into sleep mode. Is this a known issue at the moment?
When I come home from work and hear my fan running I turn on my monitor and have the grey screen. I thought it was my computer going into sleep mode that was giving me the error however when I rebooted and started my computer a couple hours later. In the middle of watching a dvd I suddenly got the grey screen. The same thing happened while watching a movie last night.
About 2 months ago I bought a new hard drive for my computer and used a program called SuperDuper to make an exact copy of my hard drive onto this new one. I then swapped the new hard drive in my computer. It has been running fine until I just installed the OSX updates.
I don't know if it is coincidence that when I am running a dvd that the grey screen appears since I have done the updates or that doing the OSX update has somehow made my OSX go bonkers.
Also is it possible since I installed the OSX on this new hard drive via this program and not from a disc that is the possible reason when I did updates that my computer's osx freaks out. If so why does it wait about an hour or so of being used to suddenly stop working?....
My other thought could be that my dvd drive is going bad and needs replacing and why would that make my OSX crash?.... if that is the case what dvd drive should I buy and install?
Sorry I don't know much about computers and all this stuff but these are just some of the things I thought might be happening and I just don't know enough about computer to say "yes that is why this would be happening"
    Thank you everyone,
I look forward to your responses

    Hi bessera;
You are suffering from kernel panics. These are generally caused by a hardware problem, most of the time bad RAM. I would suggest use the install media for you Mac and running Apple Hardware Test using the direction written on the DVD.

  • Blank scrren after going to sleep

When making a phone call the screen seems to go to sleep. When it is time to hang up the screen is black and it takes 5-10 second for the screen to come back on. The last time it happened it I had to turn the phone off then back on. This also happened while checking messages. Any solutions?

Well, sounds fairly normal or typical behavior for the iPhone. The display is designed to go sleep when not in direct use, ie being touched; the interval for going to sleep is adjustable in Settings. And during a phone call, say with the phone up to your ear, there is no touch upon the screen, so it goes to sleep. It does take a few seconds, though it seems to me it's only like 2-3 secs, for the screen to re-appear so one can click the End Call button. Ditto for checking messages or email, particularly if the email is updating and there is no touch on the screen.

  • IMac goes to sleep after start up

    Hi,
I've got a 2011, 21.5" iMac. I've had a few screen problems with it, and it's had two replacements now.
The first problem was a screen burn, or some cloudy patch behind the screen, so I got the screen replaced at the Apple Store under the warranty. The new screen worked fine for about a week, then wouldn't turn on, so I took it back, and they replaced the screen again, as well as the baclight board. This seems to have (for now) solved the problem. It's been about a week since I got my iMac back, and it's screen is now going to sleep when it starts up. So, it boots up, with the Apple logo, then the screen shuts off and it goes to sleep. I have to press the power button to get it back on. I've also noticed this only happens when I boot it up at the start of the day, so if I were to restart it now, it won't do it.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and stuff, but it's not made a difference... Does anyone know what the problem could be, or has anyone had this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Sam,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.

  • My iMac logon screen locks up after it goes to sleep

my iMac log on screen locks up no mouse control after it goes to sleep when I turn it on by hitting the spacebar I have to reboot Iam running the latest softwear

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Screen goes to sleep when opened

Shortly after the install of Lion I started noticing that my screen goes into sleep mode or just shuts off completely after I open my macbook pro.  I tried the general method of refreshing the screen of pressing the spacebar but that only worked for a week or two.  Now I'm having to press "fn > F1 or F2" in order to get the screen to come back on.  Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it?

Simply install the upgrade, create a new disc with the new hardware drivers. Boot into Windows and install the new drivers from the newly burned CD.
For Boot Camp related troubleshooting post your problem in the Boot Camp forum.
For Windows problems try the Mac forums at the MicroSoft forums or pose the question in the Boot Camp forum.
If your Windows installation is corrupted you can try booting from the Windows installer and running the system repairs.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • Is there a way to detect the event when device goes to sleep and the screen blackens?

I want to detect the event when the iOS device goes to sleep and the screen blackens?
Is there any way to do it?

    Hi,
A small idea, please check whether it will work or not.
You can achieve this by using combination of DNS server and reverse proxy server.( Customized apache). Make 'A' record for www.abcd.com to reverse proxy server IP address in your DNS.
So it will resolve your reverse proxy IP address for requests.
Configure appche to accept incoming request for www.abcd.com and points towards www.abcd.com/parameters.
I think this will solve your problem.  Only one condition is that proxy server will communicate with www.abcd.com on behalf of client.
Follow the link for configuration of reverse proxy server

  • Blue screen crash/freeze immediately after Intel iMac goes to sleep

    Howdy all,
I have a new Intel 24" iMac, less than 3 days out of the box. Almost every time the computer goes to sleep (except twice so far when I first started using the machine) the screen goes dark for a few seconds, then turns light blue and freezes. Neither mouse movement or keyboard input will wake it up, and I have to do a hard reboot. This happens if I put the computer to sleep or just let it happen per the Energy Saver timed settings. Hardware test shows no errors. Screen saver has been disabled. All other settings and software was imported using the setup assistant from my previous iMag G5 running OX 10.3. Tried contacting automated Apple support (newly-reduced live tech support hours are NOT an improvement) and have come up empty. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance...

  • Streaming audio from my IPAD to my Apple TV from Rhapsody application.  when Apple TV go into Screen Saver mode, about 5 minutes after that it stops playing the Audio Stream and goes into Sleep mode.

I am Streaming audio from my IPAD to my Apple TV from Rhapsody application.  when Apple TV go into Screen Saver mode, about 5 minutes after that it stops playing the Audio Stream and goes into Sleep mode.  I am using the Optical Out from the Apple TV to my receiver, the Apple TV is hard Wired to the Network, the IPAD is Wirelessly attached to the network (it continues to play the Audio Stream).  When the Apple TV is turned back on it resumes playing once I manual select it for output from the IPAD.  All device are on current releases of software.  I have no Video hooked up to the Apple TV.  How do I correct this?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode

Hi. My Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode with varying time between each instance. It usually goes for a few minutes or even hours without doing it and then will go through periods of fluctuation between the modes. I believe this to have started with a minor orange juice accident rather than it being anything software related.
Any ideas as to how I might rectify the problem? Thanks very much in advance,
    Danny

When you say it goes into sleep mode ...do you mean you actually see the white pulsing light?
It may be that there is an application running (perhaps in the background) that is keeping your book awake. Printer software sometimes does this for example ...try logging out and seeing if it sleeps like that. If it does, then it very well may be a background process running.
You may find some items in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items that may be the culprit.

  • Music stops when screen goes to sleep but my headphones are inserted correctly?

I have an Ipod nano 6th Gen, and when the screen goes to sleep the music stops.  I have set up my sleep/wake button to play/pause so when the screen goes black and the music has stopped, I press the sleep/wake button twice and the music starts again without the screen coming back on.  I have read other comments and I have made sure that my headphones are all the way there does not appear to be anything obstructing the headphones either.  Is anyone able to help me?  Thank you

Solved by using a 3rd party music player that can access the library on the iPad and no longer using Apple's iPod app.
