Screen darkens when starting computer.

It happens every time! I start the computer and the screen is at minimum brightness, so I must go to System Preferences and make it brighter.

Helllo Brad (and Matthias),
I have  been using the tool Matthias recommended and it is indeed a very useful program.  It looks like I can stop it from doing the autostart.  However, I did not intentionally cause DIAdem to autostart and do not know how this happened.  (I must have done it since no one else messes with my laptop.)
A bit of historical info.  I originally used a demo disk of ver 10.0 and then used the activation code after purchasing.  I started having trouble with auto start and decided to upgrade to version 10.2 hoping ver 10.0 would  be deleted and all troubles would be gone.  No such luck.  I now have both versions and need to remove ver 10.0.  However, the control panel and 'add or remove programs' only finds one Nat Inst program (and it doesn't identify version).
Manually starting ver 10.0, generates an error message: "cannot open data store "MydataFinder"
Manually starting ver 10.2 generates an error message: ""data finder cannot start due to an internal error (100) invalid config etc."
In  spite of error messages, the programs seem to generally  work fine.  I am in the process of using the program recommended by Matthias to eliminate startup issues. I am also considering uninstalling and re-installing but am uncertain of which version will be uninstalled since only one program is identified.
After I send this, I'm going to do a restart and see if problem with multiple restarts has been eliminated.
Thanks for all your  help.

  • No picture when starting computer

Just bought a K7n2GM with an AMD XP 3000+ Barton earlier today + Harddrives + Memory (DDR 2700 512 MB 333 MHZ) and finally a dvd burner from LG. Installed all parts (physically in the box) and when starting computer no signal is sent from the VGA output (on the motherboard) even though harddrives, fan etc seems to work. Does anyone have any idea of how to solve this problem?

    +5 35a, +12 18A, +3.3 28A
I am having the same problem (so it sounds) as falcon74.  I have just installed a K7N2GM2-LSR to replace an ASUS MB.  I have checked everything twice gone through to TBL shooting on the web site and I can't get a post, beep or anything else.  The fans turn on, the HD lights come on, the cd-rom's spin up if I put a disk in at start-up.  I am loosing my patients.  My info is in my signature and my PSU info is above.  I have tried with everything disconnected and everything connected.  Oh, and i didn't get a D Bracket w/ my MB so I can't give you that info.  If I could just get to the bios I could probably figure it out.  Help Please, Thanks

  • Multiple finder window piling up on desktop when starting computer

Anybody knows what to do: At start-up, a pile of finder windows appear on the desktop one above the other, in the middle of the screen. When I press the option key and I click to close the top window, they all disappear. At next start-up they all come back together. Actions taken: Repair permissions, run Cocktail manager (all clean-up actions + scripts), ...

Try dragging this file to the desktop and reboot...

  • Error When Starting Computer!!

    Here is my problem.
Earlier today I used Boot Camp to partition my hard drive so I could install a version of Windows on my computer. Installation wasn't working so I decided to delete that partition and revert back to a Mac OS hard drive (One Partition).
Now when I attempt to restart or startup my computer I get a message saying something along the lines of no bootable device or drive. In order to start my computer (Leopard) I need to restart the computer while holding the option key to select the Mac OSX Hardrive. What do I do to fix this problem.. I want my computer back to the way it was!!

I had the same problem...every time I tried to reboot, a screen came up saying a bootable disk isn't inserted or it went back into XP setup and tried to install it again.
I expected worst-case scenario, I can just put the OS X cd in and boot from there. With it in, it just keeps saying no bootable disk is inserted.
I couldn't get out of that loop, so finally I thought I'd just do whatever I can to get back into OS X to start from scratch...but I couldn't get back in. Not knowing what else to do, I thought if I deleted the partition holding XP from the windows setup it would let me back into Mac OS. (I know it says don't delete/create in windows setup, but I didn't know what else to do).
Did that...didn't work. Now I tried installing windows again, and I keep getting an error that says: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file"
    Obviously I messed something up...
My OS X partition shouldn't be damaged from all this right?? How can I get back in to find out? Holding the option key as I boot doesn't do anything.
It's my first time on a Mac - just got it yesterday. Any tips would be appreciated.
At this point I'm happy to forget windows if it'll just let me back into OS X.

  • Need to remove password when starting computer and ECT

I have posted a few times, but I think I only got one response, I have a few problems with this laptop Model # Satellite A135-S4527.So I'm going to list them and maybe some can help, other wise I may take a hammer to this laptop.
1: I put a password on my computer and I need to know how to get it off .
2: My text size keeps changing from large to very small ( I can barely read it) I have tried everything that I have read   to fix it but it doesn't help.
3: Now my laptop has started going to lock up computer by it's self and I keep having to log in again over and over.
4: And for some reason I must be stupid because when I get in here, I can never find if some one answered,  I'm sure I
have other problems but my brain just went dead, I do hope some one will be able answer these problems
    Thanksshirley53

First off, ALWAYS provide the COMPLTETE Model Number of your system when you post.  WIthout that we are flying blind.  Also, it helps to tell us what operating system you are running.
Number 4 is easy.  Click on your user name and it will show you every thread you have started as well as every post you have made.
You'll need to be more specific on which password you need removed as there are several possibilities.
You need to run chkdsk/r to clean up the hard drive.  Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt and type in  chkdsk/r  then hit enter.  Type in Y when it asks if you want to run this at the next boot and then restart the computer.  This could take over an hour depending on how screwed up your hard drive has become.  These instructions are for WIndows XP.  Vista might be slightly different, but I don't have a Vista system available at the moment to check.
I have no idea about the text size change.  I've never run into that before, but there are posts in your previous threads about this.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Screen Darkens When Dropping File on Dock Icon

    Hello:
    This is my first post.
I've been a Mac evangelist since I first started using them in Prepress in 1987.
But there is a feature in Snow Leopard that I absolutely cannot abide.
It's the way the display darkens to a vignetted area in the middle of the screen EVERY time I drop a file on a dock icon. Sometimes it seems to "stick' on this display for a second or two. Sometimes the display darkens and there is a blue Windows-like edge to the dark screen. I hate it.
In a production environment this weird feature is a serious interruption. I can't imagine ANYONE wanting it, requesting it or dreaming it up--even if they are a home user. What useful purpose could this "feature" possibly serve?
Please, please if there is anyone out there who can help me kill this "feature" forever, please give me a hand. Is this Dock Expose gone awry? I have looked up and found all the Kill Dock Expose commands there are out there and none of them work. This horrible "feature" just keeps on going like the ******* EverReady bunny.
It wastes an hour of work time every week if all the seconds it wastes are added up.
Is there anyone out there who can help?
Hoping for freedom from this "feature" in 2001....

Thanks, bd, but I have long since turned off the side buttons in System Prefs in an attempt to stop this from happening.... Also, it doesn't just happen on my machine. I take care of all the Macs here [15] and I can get any of them to do it if I drag a file to a dock icon and hold it over the icon long enough...mine just seems to do it instantly.

  • Mac Pro Screen Blank When Started

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 running 10.7.5.  I turned off my computer.  When I went to turn it back on all I am getting is a blank screen.  No apple logo or moving wheel.  I have a bootable hard drive, so I tried to reboot holding down the option key.  Blank screen.
    Now what?

YOU HAVE TO INCLUDE THINGS LIKE WHAT GRAPHIC CARD YOU USE.
Because the first suggestion is X1900, OEM 7300GT, 8800GT are all due for upgrade/replacement.
Do yourself a favor the ATI 5770 from Apple works well for us and 10.7.5.
You could also use Lion Recovery Mode / pull your hard drive and boot from a bootable clone backup (because you know about and learned to do that years ago with SuperDuper or CCC or one of the other programs).
Dust, heat, old FBDIMMs, graphic cards that literally do give up and die.

  • DVD player opens automatically when starting computer

When I start up my macbook pro OS X version 10.6.8 the DVD player opens up automatically. This is something new and started recently after we had some difficulty playing/ejecting a DVD that ejected when we restarted the computer. Can someone please offer some help

Thankyou for your reply. I tried your first suggestion, but the DVD player didn't show up in Login Options. I didn't try to close the window and restart because everytime I start the computer and the DVD player opens, I automatically close the app because it's so annoying.
But your suggestions did prompt me to go to dock and right click on the DVD player app and I noticed that when I clicked on options, there was a tick beside "Open at Login". I wasn't even aware that you could right click on the app and that option and others were there. So I just unticked it and I'm sure the problem will be solved.
    So thankyou

  • Satellite T110-11U - Error message when starting computer

I have a 6 month old Satellte T110-11U running a manufacturer installed OS - Windows 7. Every time I start the computer I get an error message:
There as a problem starting , C:\ users\home\AppData\local\imagusud.dll , The specified module could not be found. I can ignore the prompt, but would like to sort it out.
Does anyone known how to resolve this issue?

    Hi
It looks like something would be corrupt in your user account.
Did you try to repair the OS or to clean the registry using CCleaner?
CCleaner is a free tool which cleans the registry and removes garbage from the HDD.
    Try this.
Otherwise you can check the msconfig -> Startup tab.
There you should search for some entries containing the imagusud.dll file and could disable or remove this
    Good luck

Hello, I am also experiencing this problem, particularly on mail startup, but it can happen any time. Thanks Mulder, I have tried your suggested sequence, and I thought it was helping, but the problem has recurred. If by chance you think this is a different problem than awaiti describes, please let me know, I do not want to intrude on the thread.
To summarize, over the past week or so, Mail (for me) has become unstable to the point of not being usable. No software updates had been applied on my Macbook for several weeks, until today (10.5.5), but I notice no difference in behavior after applying the 10.5.5 update. Mail starts then begins dragging the system down, finally ending up with the spinning beachball wait cursor. I have Mail's activity window "on", as well as Activity Monitor, to see if anything unusual is going on. Activity Monitor, when and if it gets any operating time, shows Mail "not responding". It gets so bad that other applications begin to show "not responding" and even Force Quit (cmd-opt-esc) takes forever to respond.
    Some things to note:
    1. If I do not start Mail, the system runs fine, applications respond normally.
    2. When Mail goes in the weeds, other applications also go unresponsive, so I can only assume that Mail is consuming so much resources other cannot execute. (This include Activity Monitor... when Mail runs crazy, I cannot even see what other system processes are taking up CPU time.)
    3. If and when I actually get Mail to Force Quit, Activity Monitor shows that the "spindump" process continues taking over 10% CPU time for up to a minute after Mail terminates.
    4. I can successfully use the MobileMe webmail with no problems, so the email and folders on the server must be okay. But I prefer the Mail client.
Hope this information helps someone with insight suggest a course of action.
    Thanks!

I've had my Mac Book for about a year and a half and love it. In the last week however whenever I turn it on, IDVD automatically opens at startup. How can I make it stop?
