Screen died on a run - sweat?

so my shiny new ipod nano 6g died today. on a run with the ipod clipped to the wasitband of my shorts. been running an hour or so, looked down to change the music, hit the button to activate the screen and it was all whitre except for teh edge that was kindof multicolored. music was still playing fine. left it for a few hours and the screen never came back - just black. took it back to the store and they exchanged it.
guess it's not sweatproof (it was warm and i was definitely sweating a lot), so need to find some sort of case/cover. i suspect this was sweat getting in thru the slot on the bottom, so the cases that dont cover that wont help.
how are others handling this?

My nano died on me while on the Threadmill after 40 minutes as well. I clipped it on the neck collar of shirt, hoping the minimize the effect of sweat but that didn't help. The volume maxxed out and sound icon was on, so I reset it. Then, got the white screen. Played with it for several hours and got the nano to normal screen again BUT the - volume button does not work. It worked great while I was lifting weights though. Not sure if it's b/c sweat got in or what-not but am dissapointed b/c I was really looking forward to use this baby for many many miles running.
Going to apple store tomorrow to have my nano looked at. I hope the cover, once it's available will help with the sweating issue and think apple should ship everyone who owns a nano right now free nano cover.
What is going on with apple, first the "grip of death" on their iphone and now this on their nano.

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to the Mavericks OS.  The screen died and I took it into an Apple store and was told replacing the screen and the hardware to repair everything would cost almost as much as buying a new laptop or a cheaper model.  I was told that I can use a drive sled to access data I need on my hard drive. How do I remove my hard drive and use a drive sled to get to the information I need?  What makes matters more complicated is I need to update my iPhone and my iTunes/App store purchases.  How can I accomplish this?
My wife has a late 2008 Macbook Pro as well, which I am assuming I need to run my hard drive.  Is there a way to just access just my hard drive without interfering with hers?
I know this is lengthy.  Thanks to whoever looks at this and offers advice/instruction.

the device you need is an External enclosure for a 2.5" (laptop form factor) SATA drive.
A USB-interface enclosure will be slow, but is adequate for this task and for re-purposing as a backup drive later.  A firewire-interface drive would be faster, but is harder to find, more expensive, and faster than needed for this purpose.
The drive will mount as an "extra" drive on your wife's Macbook, and you can drag and drop whatever you wish. You could create a separate Account for yourself on her computer, and use Migration Assistant or just copy your stuff over to the new account. Then it would not interfere with her files.

After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely." What do I do now? This is an iMac and I'm running 10.6.8.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it. See below for how to clone a drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You may be able to backup your data if you have an erased external drive you can use. Before you do the above but after you have opened Disk Utility you can try to clone your drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Now this will only work if the drive is accessible and can be cloned by Disk Utility. Otherwise, you would need to access your drive from another Mac that you can connect via Firewire - Target Disk Mode.

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple?  I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

Try trashing the .plist with CharacterViewer in its name in Home/Library/Preferences.  To get to Home/Library you may need to hold the option key down while you do Finder > Go.

  • Bluish tint on screen when Photoshop CS6 running

    Hi!
I just bought a MacBook Pro three weeks ago. I'm running Mountain Lion. Also, I have my copy of Adobe Photoshop CS6.
Something very unusual is happening. I'm a Graphic Designer and currently doing an Interior Design major. I calibrated my monitor perfectly. But now, ever since I installed CS6, every time I open Photoshop, a bluish tint sets on the screen, affecting every program running (browsers, for example) and it's very annoying (not to mention it disrupts any color calibration I made to my monitor). The only solution to this problem is closing Photoshop (the problem persists even if I minimize Photoshop to use another program).
I tried opening Illustrator and it works fine. Only with Photoshop this is happening.
I searched on Apple discussion boards for similar cases and found nothing.
What's interesting, I took screenshots to send them to a friend and the screenshots don't seem to be affected by this phenomenon.
Have I gone crazy or someone here has an idea on this?
    Thank you!

As I said in my post on the Apple board, my bluish tint problem when switching graphics cards eventually just went away - no idea why. And I tried recalibrating when I had the blue tint screen but do no avail.
I can open Photoshop and use it with my Intel integrated card sometimes - PS itself doesn't seem to make the switch automatically. But when I open Bridge (which I use almost always) the discrete graphics card kicks in. My temporary solution was to use gfxCardStatus on discrete all of the time. And after a while, when I began switching to integrated while on battery, my problem vanished.
But if you've a new MBP (mine's a late 2011 yet still under warranty until 2015) I'd take it back to the Apple Store and have them switch it out for another machine. The problem doesn't seem to crop up often (else there would be many more complaints) and it seems to be only on 2011 and 2012 machines. I don't think it's an Adobe problem at all as it happened to me when any app that uses discrete graphics would kick in (including Google Chrome).
I didn't send in a bug report to Apple because I thought that the problem was only with my machine. Yours is only the fourth time I've heard of the dreaded blue tint occurring. Take your machine back to the Apple Store and show them the problem. Maybe they will have a better fix than just using gfxCardStatus.
    Regards,
    Clinton

  • No batch input data for screen SAPMSSY0 0120 when running BDC in background

    Hi Experts,
I am facing an  issue "No batch input data for screen SAPMSSY0 0120" when running a BDC for VA01 in background.
The scenario is like we have EDI orders coming into SAP in the form Idocs. These EDI orders are processed by Function module
IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS. This FM module internally calls VA01 (Call Transaction) to create Sales Orders in SAP.
Now we have a scenario in which we want a popup screen to come up  & ask for selection of record from list of records displayed on popup screen. In background since we can not show up a screen, we are programatically selecting the record we want & going ahead.
Now what is happening is during foerground the functionality is working abosultely fine, that is incoming idoc is getting posted successfully in SAP with status of 53. Incase of back ground processing of the same we are getting an error
No batch input data for screen SAPMSSY0 0120
I have checked this screen through screen painer(SE51) & i did not find any element on this screen but Element list
    shows one field Syst-Xcode.
Kindly guide me how to fix the issue so that the same can work as expected in background.
    Regards,
    Chetan.

    Hi Chetan,
List screens utilize SAPMSSY0/0120. Please check within your ABAP coding if you have any customer exit that tries to issue WRITE statements. If so, either remove them or add logic to not issue them in background (e.g. SY-BATCH = 'X'). Another culprit might be a SUBMIT statement in a user exit, which triggers a report with list output. I'm not completely sure, but I think the screen is also used for some value helps (do you have any coding forcing a value help popup?).
    Hope this helps, harald

i have iphoto previously installed. running  but when i have synced my iphone4 the iphoto app. cant be launched anymore. a black screen with the hourglass running till it quits automatically.  What should be the problem???

Try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home/() Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

  • 2nd Gen Macbook Pro - Screen died/went black for a few hours

    Hi,
I have a second gen 15" Macbook Pro (c2duo 2.16) and recently when I was using the Internet the screen died on me. The display seemed to turn off but the Hd kept working, I pressed some keys to try and revive it, but no joy. Thinking that the display had died on me, I left it to one side, only to find that a couple of hours later it miraculously came back to life.
It's only happened the one time so far, but I am feeling a bit uneasy about this. Could it be that this is a sign of a logic board/GPU failure? Is the ATI x1600 prone to failure? I am a little concerned as I need my laptop for some regular PS design work, anyone have any similar problems?

Yes, I had the exact same problem with a second gen 17" MBP (2.33 core 2 duo). When the machine got hot, the graphics card would seem to die and I'd need to leave the machine off for several hours if I wanted the screen to come on again (and even then it wouldn't always work). It seemed when the GPU got to around 50ºC everything would freeze and upon restart, the screen would not come back on. I ended up having to get the logic board replaced (at cost - luckily this is a company-owned machine so they dealt with that) and so far, so good. However, it seems the ATI X1600 is prone to heat damage as can be seen by various threads here and around the net.
A tip from my experience: enable screen sharing. That way if you have a spare computer (any will do, as long as you enable the VNC server) you can still use your Mac when/if the screen goes again. Helpful if you're in the middle of something and didn't get to save or whatever.

  • TX2510US / TX2500 Screen Dying?

    Hello!
My TX2510US's screen's backlight flickers at random intervals and then eventually fails after some time. However, if I put it to sleep and wake it up, the screen turns back on (until it flickers and fails again after a while). I am able to use an external monitor for the time being, but the screen still turns on so I'm assuming there's no permanent damage yet and it's just dying.
I've had it and used it extensively/daily for about 16 months (warranty expired 4 months ago...) and I've updated the BIOS and graphics drivers to the latest ones.
Now, I've done some research and I read that TX1000/2000 motherboards with Nvidia chips are causing black outs and failures, but I haven't heard about the TX2500 with an ATI chip failing or does that matter? If that's the case, I can try the heat soldering thing everyone's talking about though I'd like not to. I have yet to have any other problems with laptop such as boot problems or missing WIFI (yet...).
Oh, and I opened up the screen bezel a few times to try to fix the right speaker that kept going out so maybe something happened with the inverter.
So to sum this up, is my screen failing due to a failing inverter/backlight or is it because the GPU chip is failing? I'd rather have to replace the inverter than the motherboard.
Please help! And thanks in advance.

Hey, just wanted to tell you guys that my TX2510US just started having this exact problem about 3 days ago. According to the "Blank Screen Error Codes" it has a CPU malfunction. But I realized that the problem started after the computer lost power due to dead battery(calibrating). This sudden shut of apparently damaged the ATI 3200 Graphic Cards Drivers. I simply went to Device manager and uninstalled the "ATi 3200 Graphic Card" Driver and 2 restarts, 1st time it reinstalls and then a 2nd time to complete the install. and i haven't had the problem since.... So if you guys are having this problem still try this.. I even ordered a new processor..at least it's a faster one Hope this helps.
Oh and my TX is running 3 operating systems (Vista 32 home premium, Seven 32 professional, and Seven 64 professional).. I was on the Seven 32 bit Professional when the shut of occured and i had to reinstall the ati driver on that one. If your only running one operating system then just reinstall on it.  Hope this helps.
