Screen dimming & going to sleep when watching videos from websites

when clicking on a video from websites or from news readers (eg. Focus or Stern) this doesn’t prevent TP to dim the screen and even go to stand-by/sleep after the time set in the TP configuration. So you have to touch every now and then in order to keep it running.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

yeah noticed this last night when being v lazy and watching a load of stuff in bed, kept having to tap the screen which would inadvertantly click some element of the app or webpage that launched the vid, could do with the dimmer not kicking in when video of any sort is being played.

I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

  • Watching videos from websites or email

Is there any way to download and watch videos from websites or email on the iPhone? When I click the link it says Safari cannot download the file. Just wondering if there is an update or application I can download.
    Thanks in advance,
    Keith.

Not currently, the videos you're trying to watch are most likely flash and the safari browser for the iPhone just doesn't support it.... Its possible that its not flash and the video just happens to be a codec that the phone doesn't recognize. But so far, the only video from websites that ever worked on the iPhone we're quicktime videos. Lol no surprise there.
    Anyways, I hope I've helped.
    Take care!

  • MacBook Pro goes to sleep when copying files from attached drives

I have noticed that since installing Yosemite my MacBook Pro goes to sleep when it is in the middle of copying a large number of files.  When I wake it up the copying continues.
I have also noticed that when I am watching videos from my shared iTunes library on an Apple TV the video will stop after about 15 minutes and the connection to the library is lost because the MacBook Pro has gone to sleep. When woken up then access to the library is restored but I need to reselect the movie and then resume.
I have changed the power saving options to do not let drives sleep when idle and do not sleep laptop.
Anyone else have any experience of this or better still a fix.
    Thanks in advance.

I have just found that if I turn off the display sleep in the power settings then the problem is resolved.  It means though that the screen on my MacBook Pro is on all the time albeit with a screen saver.

  • Screen goes to sleep when watching full screen video in browser

    Hey,
On my MacBook Pro, with Mavericks, I often watch MLB.tv, WWE Network or even Youtube videos on full screen. Since upgrading to Mavericks, my screen goes to sleep after the normal amount of time based on my power settings in the system preferences. In previous versions of OS X, if i had a video on full screen, whether it was with Quicktime, VLC, Safari, Chrome, etc. the screen would never go to sleep.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening other than just changing how long it takes for the screen to time out?
    Thanks.

I think you may want to point this out to Apple… it sounds like an oversight.

Can you set a 'hot corner' to disable the screensaver activation? It's less than ideal but it could save your sanity - just slide the cursor into the corner.
Hot corners should be available in the Desktop & Screensaver section of system preferences. I'm on another OS at present and may be mis-remebering an eariler OS feature.

  • Why would my Mac OS 10.4.11 MacMini repeatedly dive into sleep when watching videos on web over any browser?

Mac OS 10.4.11, pre-intel, updated as far as I can with the OS and as far as I can update for Flash and...well any other update-able items, given the OS I am stuck in (for now). When I "check for updates" I am always told that there are no updates available.
The unit works normally for hours. I can watch movies via DVD, .avi, no prob.
I can watch youtube and other types of web vids for...sometimes...5-10-15 minutes, then the computer fan revs up and it goes to sleep; it comes right back up and goes to sleep again....on and on.
If I quit the browser, all seems well.
I tried clearing history, cookies...I even freed up a bunch of HD space. But I already had 29gig free, now I have 69 of 149 gig free.
I am hard wired, not wi-fied.

  • Mirroring (Mac Pro to TV) Watching videos from websites looks terrible

Hello! We are trying to use Apple TV to cut out cable, which is easier said than done at this point! One thing we are trying to do is watch content from CBS.com or Hulu.com (show that can only be streamed on a computer) on our TV through mirroring. For one thing the image looks terrible. It was very pixilated, delayed, and stuttery. We are hitting about a 15 Mbps download speed. We are considering returning the system if this doesn't work. Does anyone know any way to make it look better?
    THANKS!

Got some links to the external videio card ?
Last one i saw was 100% diy and only worked partial under windows and not under osx at all

They look like Windows Video to me - the second site, at least, works with Flip4Mac (free plugin). I couldn't get the first one working either. It may be a newer version of the WMV specification than Flip4Mac will support.

  • Chipmunk sounds when viewing videos from websites

    hello,
i have several HP dc5850 workstations in my office.  Most of my people need to view video content from different websites from time to time.
However when we listen to the playback, the sound we here sounds like that of a chipmunk.  Like it is in fast forward mode or something.  This is using Microsoft Windows Media Player.
Has anyone come over this issue and how was it resolved?
I look forward to your responses.
    Thanks,
    Desmond

This should be the audio effects in WMP. Use the following support doc to turn them off. Somebody had them enabled whenthe hard drive images were made?

  • Safari and (less so) Firefox freeze when watching video

I'm having crashes, more often in Safari, when I am watching videos from websites. It just happened with Jon Stewart and the Daily Show, so that was annoying. The pinwheel comes on, things freeze, then--poof- and the "do you want to make a report" message comes on. I don't know much about what I am doing, so simple, clear advice would be more helpful.
    Thanks!

  • Can you lock touch screen when watching videos!??

Can you lock the screen so it doesn't become a touch screen when watching videos!??
Just got new ipod (7th gen) and this driving me crazy that I think I'm going to continue to use my older one unless there is a solution out there. I watch tv shows while commuting and while walking here or there I have to 'palm' the ipod or walk with it at my side, and the problem is that since the touch screen is sooooo sensitive I keep fwding/rewinding/swiping the screen to something else, and then to get back to that part in the video is a pain because unlike the older ipod you can just fwd a few secs, this one jumps minutes because it's so sensitive. PLEASE tell me there's a way to lock it from accidently touching it!

No - there is no such switch on the iPad - the switches control volume, muting, screen rotation, and the home button itself.
You could place it behind a screen of some sort so touching the outer screen won't affect the iPad screen - I've seen ads for 'presentation kiosk' type devices for the iPad that allow this, although I'm not sure how practical they would be in the backseat of a car.

  • Kernel Panic when watching videos (and other random times)?

    Hi all,
I've been having a lot of trouble with kernel panics and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for fixing this. I'm aware of the Airport issue mentioned on these forums (and have tried the kext fix for that without any luck).  I have KPs when watching 4+ minute long videos on Youtube (have no issue using iMovie for longer videos or watching videos from my own harddrive), sometimes when the screensaver is on or shortly after the computer goes unidle, and sometimes for no apparent reason. I've already had 2-3 KPs in the past 4 hours. This is my first Mac and not at all what I was expecting.
Sometimes the screen will flicker rapidly, other times I will get a black screen, pink screen, or the screen will "glitch" and move halfway to the left (right is now on the left and left on the right). I can sometimes delay the crash if I pause the video (the screen starts to twitch or have "lightning" flashes across parts of it) but it will eventually crash anyway.
I usually use Firefox but have had the same crash in Safari so it's not browser-related as far as I can tell.
Things I have tried (none helped):
Rebooting in safe mode to scan and repair file directories
    Resetting the PRAM
    Deleting application preferences
    Checked and repaired permissions
    Checked and repaired hard drive
Calling tech support, which had me do all the above again and unselect the "put hard discs to sleep" option
    Reinstalled Lion
Replaced the Kext for the Airport Driver (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15780717#15780717)
Things I can't do (currently) to fix this:
Connect directly to the Internet via an Ethernet cable (the Internet portal is wi-fi only).
I would be happy to downgrade (except if more stable it'd be more of a upgrade at this point ) to Snow Leopard if that is an option, but am not sure how to go about doing that (I don't have a disc for it). Happy to supply any further information needed...
The latest KP (I don't really understand how to read these yet to determine the cause of the crash) -

Update... uninstalled Parallels and restarted the system. Got through one video (approximately 5 minutes) that had crashed the system earlier, and about 1.5 minutes into another before it crashed and had to be shut down by hand. Restarted and it crashed again before it had even generated an error report. I shut down by hand again and restarted, and received this error report. Really frustrating. Since SyncMate shows up in both I'll try uninstalling that (haven't used it yet anyway).

  • It goes to sleep, when I open it I cant click on anything.

When I close the lid or the macbook goes to sleep, when I open it I cant click on anything. The mouse moves but it doesnt let me close windows or do anything else either. I forced the programs to shut with cmd+alt+esc and it did let me to click on few things, however after the screen went to sleep again it did the same.Just didnt let me click on things.
Ive tried shutting the computer and rebooting it,even forced to it reboot itself and when it gets back the problem is still there.
My hardrive is fine,i run the cheks and I have 1/5 of the hardrive still in use.
However going over the activity (warning) log the following messages appeared during those freezes:
    5.2.2013 19.10.57,756 System Preferences[225]: **** ERROR: *** -[ESGraphicsOptionsController _coreGetGraphicsStateForSelector:]: AGCGetMuxState() failed
Whats wrong? What can I do?

    Hi Icemanjohn53,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting tips that can help you resolve the display issue with your iPhone 5.
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If your screen is too dim, too bright, or you see only faint images
Try to adjust the brightness. If the screen doesn’t respond when you adjust the brightness, open several apps to make sure it’s not an issue with only one app.
If you have a screen protector, try removing it. Try removing your case if it includes a screen protector.
If you see the issue in multiple apps, restart your device.
If restarting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
    Cheers,
    -Jason

  • MBP 13" - Going to Sleep when moved

I have a new 13" MBP and I noticed last week that it just went to sleep when I lifted it off my lap and placed it on the table.
I was downloading an update at the time and also using iSquint to convert some video clips for my iPod so the machine was warm but hardly over stressed.
I tried to recreate this a few times afterwards and it seemed to work everytime I moved the MBP. I disable the Sudden Motion Sensor - cured it. Re-enabled the sensor and it seemed to stay cured until last night when I was doing the same thing again (Mac OS and Safari updates and iSquint).
It's not like these are particularly sudden movements that would be causing this.
Are they supposed to sleep if they get too hot? Could it just be overheating?
EDIT: I should just mention that since this has happened it's also become very unreliable with sleeping. It goes to sleep when it shouldn't and when I try to wake it I get a blank screen. Seems I have to open and close the lid a few times to get the screensaver logon box to appear again.
