Screen dims to dark on its own during use. Software/hardware problem?

Since I upgraded to 10.4.10 and had a new hard drive (WDC WD1200BEVE-11UYT0) and a new memory chip installed I have been having a problem with the screen suddenly dimming, most times dimming to the lowest setting. When this happens the 'sun' screen brightness icon appears and you can see the level brightness indicator bars drop. This happens w/o any regular time interval, sometimes it seems vibration related and sometimes not. After it occurs, I can sometimes bring the brightness level back up and it will hold, other times it falls back down again and repeated attempts to bring it up will not work; if you give it some time to rest, 30 sec. to 2 mins, then it will work. I have no idea what is going on. Is there a setting I need to adjust, is it a glitch and it needs a software patch, is something/a connection loose in the computer? Any suggestions are appreciated! Late 2011 model display problems: white screen and shuts off on its own

A few days ago my macbook pro (late 2011 model) starting going nuts. The screen would turn white or become pixelated all the sudden, even if all i'm running is Chrome. The laptop is not over heated. This is what would happen:
Screen goes white or become pixilated
Computer shuts off on its own after a moment
Attempt to reboot, stuck on apple logo screen (pixilated)
Shuts off on its own again
The only way to reboot is through safe mode.
I've tried resetting SMC and running an apple hardware check.

It's most likely the macbook pro 2011 denied by apple GPU problem many many others suffer from too.

Thanks Kirk and Thomas....I did appear to have a kernel panic.   The contents of the panic are shown below.   I used disc permissions repair on the internal and external drives and all seem to be ok.     iPhoto is completely rebuilt and all is well there.    I use Time Machine and a dedicated hard drive for its contents.   Been using Macs since my original computer....a brand new Mac II.....this is a new experience. My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Is it normal for your iPod touch 4th gen screen to come off on its own?

So I have had my iPod touch for a while now. I understand that things get old and fall apart eventually, but what confuses me is how does the screen come off on its own? I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was reading a book that some light was able to come out from the top area of the screen where the camera is located. I started to investigate about it and turns out the the top area of the iPod had came loose. A few days later I noticed that it started to get worse. It started to allow me to see the components on the inside. Then my screen turned off not allowing my to turn it back on when I later found out that one of the cables that connect the screen had came lose and popped off the connection for it. What should I do? Please help me and tell me what I should do to fix it.

New Ipad 2 32gb Screen has a mind of its own!!!!

Hi, i got a ipad 2 32gb today and sometimes the screen seems to have a mind of its own. It switches randomly between different pages without me touching it, I have tried a rstore but it is still doing it. Just wondered if anyone else is having or has had this problem?????

Well that certainly isn't good. One thing I would suggest if you haven't tried already is calibrating the screen. Menu>Settings & Tools>Touch Settings>Calibration. This helps mostly if you are having issues with the screen thinking you are pressing a different part of the screen, but doesn't hurt to try. Also, make sure you have the current software version VX11VKV11. You can check by going to Settings & Tools> Phone Info>SW Version. If you have an older version choose software update. If you are still having issues, then this is a hardware issue and the phone will need to be replaced.

Ipad Reboots on its on during use

My Ipad 2 which was purchased March 2013 will act as if it is rebooting during use. can anybody help me with this problem?

try reset. hold both buttons until apple logo appears then release. if that doesn't work. May need to restore.

Mac mini shuts down on its own during sleep shows a prolonged white screen when starting

10.9.4 2.4 f 8 g menmory ..shuts down by itself when it sleeps..when I restart in the am I get a prolonged white screen. took it to a genius bar who found it checked out ok. but found a slightly loose monitor jack was loose...recomended more ram which I did . then reinstalling my os which I have not done...iphoto lost everything too...as my brother Tim used to say whattttttt ?

Iphone6+ Screen unresponsive & then operates on its own without user input

Hello All,
I've noticed a few issues crop up over the last 3 days, first my touchscreen was refusing to acknowledge my touches. I then restored to factory settings.
Then after everything was restored, same issue apart from this time the iPhone would operate itself opening programs, type keys i was not pressing. its got to a point where i reset back again but still having the same issues. Getting annoying now as hard to enter password or pass code as phones types something else even if the phone is not being touched
Has anyone been experiencing this in the last 3 days?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the touchscreen wasn't responding and now is responding erratically. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

My 2007 Intel iMac is waking from sleep on its own during the early morning hours. Not sure why. Is there a way to find out by looking at some sort of log files or something else?

I'm wondering if someone else is having control of my iMac as it randomly wakes up from sleep while I am sleeping sometime during the night. I've woken up with the light from the monitor brightening my room. Need to find out what is causing it to wake up and stay on. Any suggestions?

I've had this same issue lately. Here's one thing to check: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Wake for Network Access should be unchecked.
Mine is unchecked, so the only other thing I can think of is that it might be Time Machine backing up. My iMac is backing up to an external hard drive, and also sharing that drive over the network so two other Macs can back up as well.
Should be an easy theory to test. Turn off AirPort, unplug Ethernet, and let the iMac sit. See if it still happens.

Droid Razr screen has a mind of its own!! Help?!?!

I am on my 4th replacement phone in a month!! They send me a replacement every week because the phone does the same thing with EVERY phone they send. They've done multiple hard re-sets, we've deleted my Gmail account and made a new one, we've taken my memory card out and basically put the phone down to the bare minimum and they're still haunted!! I'll be texting and random buttons will start getting pressed. They light up like someone is pressing them. When I try to hit the delete button, it adds MORE letters and takes about 10 minutes to delete 1 sentence. It will randomly pick webpages out and randomly dial people in my phone book. The only way I can get it to stop is to turn the phone off. Verizon keeps sending me replacement phones and they ALL do the same thing, so it has to be something specific to me or my account because theres NO way that 4 phones in a row can have this same problem! The last lady I talked to called Motorola with me on the phone. They said I can either keep getting replacement phones until 1 works OR I can send my phone in and they can fix it and send it back.. but in the mean time, I wont have a phone at all. Any one else have these problems and how did you fix it?? I'm so fed up i could scream!!!

Keeps restarting on its own says because of a problem

6th Gen Nano turns off on its own

My nano is turning off on its own after a few minutes of play. Any advice?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.
