Screen does not turn on after sleep...

...I have a 8-proc Mac Pro with 4GB of RAM using Leopard connected to a 30-inch Apple and a 24-inch Sony using the standard video card it came with, not upgraded. Every time I put my Mac to sleep, I am able to wake it up, I hear the HD spinning, but both my screen do NOT turn on. I end up having to reboot in order to get my Mac up.
Please HELP!
Thank you.

  • Screen does not turn on after sleep - ProBook 4530s - Windows 8.1 (64bit)

    Hi everyone,
Not sure if this had to be posted in notebook display and video section, or laptop lockups, freezes and hangs. Anyway, I have a problem, where everything is fine with the computer, it's running smoothly, but whenever I make it go to sleep, after it does it instantly, the signals are of a regular laptop sleep - power buton flashing, no other signs of computer being on.
However, the problem appears when turning the computer back on after sleep. After pressing the power button, the computer straight away starts working - you can hear the fan turned on, etc, just that pretty much nothing changes with the screen. Sometimes, with some particular light directed towards the screen, you can even see, that the computer is on (seeing the clock on the display), just like the brightness was set down to 2% or something. And there is nothing that helps from what I have tried to do (tried reinstalling both AMD drivers and Intel HD drivers). I researched this problem extensively but could not find a solution, however, as I have noticed that this is quite an old problem (assuming from the date of the posts this problem first showed up), there might be a solution for it, to which I just have not noticed the answer?
If anyone can help me, please do, the sleep function is essential and extra important function when living on campus at university, I just cannot operate like this.
Hopefully someone will know, thank you in advance.
    Dinas

Suspend has always been problematic under Linux. It seems to be hit or miss for the most part, but here are some things you can try:
Use an LTS kernel, tuxonice, pm-utils, etc. See Suspend and Hibernate
    Try a different graphics driver
Tweak the driver module parameters or build your own driver.
Unfortunately I don't have experience with the radeon driver, so I can only give you ideas.

  • MacBook Pro screen does not turn on after using external display?

    Hello,
I am using a 15 inch MacBook pro from mid 2012. At work I connect it via mini-display port to an eternal monitor. Recently however, sometimes after I go home and try to turn the laptop back on, it turns on, but the screen does not. If I connect it to another external monitor, it uses that as the default display. Sometimes I can just restart the laptop and everything is fine, other times I have to turn it back on while holding the shift key in order for the laptops built in display to be used.
After work, I unplug the mini-display port, and then power off the laptop.
Can anyone help me understand why this may be happening so I can prevent it from happening again?
    Thank you.

    Try a smc reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Also try a pram reset. Power off, power on holding the keys: Option, command,P,R(no commas) press the keys before thr start chime, then hold them till you hear the chime 2 times. Release and reboot.

  • Slimline s3321p display does not turn on after sleep (Win 7)

Upgraded from Vista 32 bit system to Win 7 32 bit because of lots of Vista issues. Win 7 resolved most problems but then recently, after a couple of months, display would not turn on following sleep or hibernation. Couldn't fix so did clean install of win 7 64 bit (custom instead of update) to resolve the problem. But same thing in Win 7 64. Installed the multiple MS updates. MS''s Nvidia display driver install always failed and a couple others I downloaded elsewhere failed as well. Did finally get a recent driver from nvidia's website that installed (9.18.13.697), but it didn't solve the problem. Ran the same as the older driver.
    Also tried the following:
-all kinds of power setting changes
-different monitor (flatscreen TV is the normal one I use because this is my dvr/media machine)
    -different RGB cable
-ran win 7 install disk to fix any OS problems
    -inactivating hibernate
-checking voltage output of all power supply leads following instructions (all within normal tolerance)
    -reconnecting all motherboard leads
-swapping around the two 2GB memory modules
    -various system checks
-tried to install various Vista 64 bit fixes/updates from HP website, but they don't install ("don't meet minimum requirements")
-and more things I can't remember
HP doesn't seem to have any Win 7 support for this computer, so now I'm at a loss. At the moment I'm leaving the machine on all the time, but don't want to do this forever. I suppose it could be a faulty motherboard, but short of replacement, anything else to try?

    Hi,
    A couple of suggestions:
Check you have the latest BIOS update - 5.18 - search for sp40834.exe - often these updates improve these functions
If you are game, try just one RAM stick installed as a test, try slot 0 and 1
Lastly, try a different video cable - It's a long shot, but it could be key to the issue
    Hope that these suggestions assist

  • Screen does not turn on after start up, but after standby on Satellite M100

    Hi,
I have quite some experience with computers and laptops, but this problem exhausted all my knowledge.
My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite M100, PSMA1E. It runs Windows XP, currently on SP3.
The laptop always had shutdown/stand bye issues. It would go on stand bye and the screen would not come back. She usually would turn it off manually (holding the power button) and turn it on again.
Same thing happened last week, but with me. I turned it off holding the power button but when I turned it back on the screen was completely black. After a few attempts I realized that everything was working; I could hear XP booting and the usual sound files but there was no way I could get the screen working.
The strangest thing is that the CMOS/BIOS screen, the first one with the Toshiba logo, also does not show up. If it was a OS problem I thought I would be able to access the BIOS at least, but that doesn't work. Fn+F5 also doesn't work.
Then something even stranger happened. I was turning it on and off with keyboard shortcuts and I realized that if I put it on stand bye using shortcuts and then turn it back on the screen turns on perfectly fine (there is some resolution adjustment cause icons are out of place, but it works perfectly well).
From that on I tried everything I know. BIOS update, all Windows XP updates, all Toshiba QuickFix, cleaning the registry with different tools, uninstalling and reinstalling the video driver (ATI Radeon X1400), HotKeys utility, Power Saver Utility, Toshiba Hardware Tools, looking at start up programs, services, everything I could possibly think off.
What really puzzles me is that the Toshiba start up screen won't show up. I can't access the BIOS, but I tried restoring BIOS standard values through Toshiba Hardware Tools. It didn't work. I don't even know if reinstalling XP will work because every time I turn it on it's all black and I need to do the stand bye/turn back on trick.
When I plugged it on a external monitor I could see the whole start up process (BIOS initial screen and Windows). I then tried to access the display configuration of the video driver but it would only show the external monitor. It would only detect the laptop screen after a stand bye/turn back on, and then it worked perfectly well: two simultaneous screens, extended screen, everything. Ah, changing the BIOS from Auto-Select to LCD+external monitor also does not work.
I'm really puzzled here and I can't figure this one out. I really don't think it's a hardware issue, because the screen works 100% after the stand bye. I guess XP is making something during shut down that completely 'shuts down' my screen, even after boot, and then I can only turn it on with the stand bye thing.
Any help would be really appreciated!
    Best,

    Hi mate,
that whole story sounds really weirdo since after reading all this and knowing that youve tried almost everything doesnt makes it better.. :/
Usually I would say: update your BIOS, but you already updated everything. This problem could be BIOS related since the initialization of the hardware after a standby is controlled by the chipset trough the BIOS.
I guess it could also be something with the background light of the LCD screen (failed initialization after waking up), you can check this by reproducing the situation with the black screen and holding some light near the screen. If you can see some schemes on the screen (something like desktop, etc..) then it could be the background lighting. In such case try to reinstall the operating system and update all installed drivers to the newest version (yes I know, sounds like more pain).
Otherwise, click [HERE|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=ASP_SUPPORT], find the nearest authorized service partner in your country, contact them and ask them for a hardwarecheckup. Maybe its really a hardware related issue..
    Greets and good luck

  • IMac screen will not come on after sleep

iMac screen does not come on after sleeping for a period of time - twice now from overnight. The back seems to be warm. I have to hold the on button until I hear the drive and system shut down.  Then after period of time it will start just fine.  ?????

I know that some of the older imacs had overheating problems that caused unexpected sleep.  try to keep the display darker and keep the room not too hot.  That seems to usually solve the issue.

  • Screen won't turn on after sleep for newest macbook pro (Feb 26 2011)

    Hi!
I just bought the 13' Macbook Pro with an 2.7GHz dual-core i7 processor and 500GB of space, the $1500 model. I am having a problem with the screen and I am wondering if I should be worried about it or if anyone else has noticed it. If it continues, I will have to take it into the store and see if I can get it fixed.
My macbooks screen will not turn on after it falls asleep for a long period of time. The first night I had this computer, it was playing music and I turned the screen brightness all the way down/off and then I fell asleep. The energy settings were set so that the computer would fall asleep after 20 minutes. Pathfinder, F.lux and iTunes were the only application running at the time. When I woke up the next morning, the light on the computer's side indicating it was asleep was slowly fading in and out (as expected). I hit some keys on the keyboard and the keyboards backlighting turned on after a few seconds.
But the screen did not turn on. I tried adjusting the screen brightness on the keyboard and nothing happened. After a few minutes, I held down the power button and heard the computer turn off. I turned the computer back on, AND THE SCREEN LOOKED VERY STRANGE. I could see part of iTunes fragmented/segmented into 5 or 6 sections across the screen. There were also strange lines going across the screen. It looked kind of like a leftover image of iTunes that could be solved with a screen refresh. I turned off my computer again and turned it back on about two more times, and then the screen would simple just not turn on.
As I was packing up to go to the Apple Store, I tried one more time to turn my computer on and the screen was working fine. This was yesterday, and for the rest of the day the computer seemed to work fine. However, I don't think I let my computer fall asleep all day yesterday because I was using it so much.
Basically the same thing happened this morning when I woke up, except to a lesser degree. My computers screen was unresponsive after keyboard input, but I was able to get music to play from my speakers. I restarted it and it seems to be working fine. I didn't see the screen do that weird fragmentation thing this time.
I think something about the sleep function is interfering with my computer's screen. Or perhaps Pathfinder or F.lux have something to do with it. F.lux, by the way, is a application that turns the screen a dark yellowish at night to help your eyes. But I have friends that use this application and I myself have used it for a while and we have never had this problem. Then again, none of them have a 13 inch with an i7.
Does anyone know about this problem and have advice that would save me a trip to the Apple store?
    thanks!

From when the problem apparently starts (some point in the night while my machine is idle and supposedly asleep) until when I discover it and reboot the machine, I get dozens or hundreds of the above messages. Now somebody just needs to figure out what that means and stop it from happening...

  • My iPad screen does not turning

My iPad screen does not turning. What is problem?

    Hello Stephencho41,
It sounds like you are unable to turn on your iPad. Although the following article is about the iPhone, the information and troubleshooting is the same for the iPad as well, so I recommend these steps specifically to help you out:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

Full Screen Does Not Come Back After Minimizing Firefox to the Taskbar.
I work in full screen almost exclusively ... the toolbar and the URL are still displayed while in full screen.
Before this version (30.0), when I minimized Firefox to the taskbar so that I could go to the desktop or to Windows Explorer, when I finished what I was doing and re-selected Firefox it would go back to full screen. Now, it does not go back to full screen. I can still see the taskbar. I have to press [f11] two more times to get back to full screen.
I have tried with and without addons enabled. Same behavior. I have reset Firefox ... same behavior.
    I'm using Firefox 30.0 and Windows 7 (64 bit).
    Thanks.

  • T520: Monitor does not turn on after boot or waking from sleep

I have a pretty standard T520, the only modifications are upgrading to a larger battery and higher screen resolution (1600x1200), and am currently running windows 7 64bit.  Whenever I turn on the machine from a powered off state, or if I try and wake it up from being asleep, 2/3 of the time the monitor will fail to turn on.  I am only able to remedy this by closing the lid, letting it go to sleep again, opening it again, holding down the fn key (if that even helps), and hoping it turns on the next time.  On a fresh boot, the screen backlight is on, but there is never anything displayed on the monitor, so I cannot even go in to the BIOS.  To get to the BIOS, I have to boot normally, repeatedly open/close the monitor until it displays something, reboot, and hope the monitor is still working after the reboot.
The forum posts I have seen on this topic seem to only relate to this problem with external monitors; however, this is occuring with the laptop monitor itself.
Has anyone else had this issue, or know of ways to correct it?

One other note: I am not hearing the hard drive start spinning on the times that the monitor does not turn on when returning from hibernate.  When the monitor does turn on, there is the distinct sound of the hard drive starting up, and I can feel a bit of torque within the laptop from the hdd.
