    Hi,
First, try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.
If it still doesn't start, is there a sequence to the 'blinks' that you can match to the table below?

  • Caps and Num lock blinking indefinitely

    Hey everyone.
My brother just encountered the infamous startup error on his dv7-2045eo with blinking Caps and Num lock, but they are not blinking 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 times. They just continue to blink. What exactly does that mean? Other than that, it's just the regular startup error thing with black screen. We've tested the power supply, and it's just fine, so it shouldn't be a power issue.
The hard drives are also okay.
    Any ideas?

  • Caps Lock/Num Lock LED blinks 5 times on bootup - HP ProBook 6450b

Hi all members/pros, I was tasked to resolve a bootup issue on a HP ProBook 6450b and did managed to get it up and running again without much effort. The notebook Caps Lock/Num Lock LED flashes/blinks 5 times  and then pauses and blinks again 5 times. Seeked assistance on online HP support(link below) and it stated that it was a System board failure. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 So then I opted to swap the hard disk tand LCD monitor hardware with with another HP ProBook 6450b which is functional but display damaged as the user was a senior manager at where I worked - Boroko Motors, Papua New Guinea - and prolong downtime was not an option. Just as I was about to get under the hood, the buggered notebook deciided to spring back to live loading onto the Windows login screen. I noiced also that I was in our server room(with much cooler temperature) that may have aided the componenets on the main borad to function so I presumed the cooling system was at fault. I then got under the hood and confirmed that the fan/vents were clogged up with dust/debris which might have collected over time. Did the cleaning and after that it hasnt failed so far... Thanks all! Get the HP ProBook 6450b service manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02760808.pdf

I, recently, bought a 6735b hp laptop for $100. It does the same thing as your describe. I think the motherboard overheated. So, I ordered a new motherboard from getcomputerparts.com out of China to see if it will solve the no boot problem. I'm hoping this will solve the problem. I noticed that when I first got the laptop, second hand, that the fan wasn't blowing out, and later found a lot of dust that simply blowing it out solved the air circulation problem. I think that the heat destroyed some connections to the video or hard disk drive controller chip which made my hdd light blink on and off every second or so, and also made my Optical Drive seem to blink its LED on and off, and a slight scratching sound every second, as well.
I also, saw on Youtube.com, a video about the nvidia video chip getting connection heat damage at the solder joints, and there was a way of putting a penny with heat sink paste after 'burning' it for a couple of hours with a hot spotlight lamp with aluminum foil around the rest of the board to protect the rest of the board other than the video chip. But, this was on another hp product that failed after 1 year, no screen no POST.
I am hoping a 'new' system board will do the trick though, and I am spending about $153 for the part delivered, and $75 to put it in at a local computer shop.

  • Blinking caps and num lock lights

Opened up the lid on sleeping laptop and had nothing but a blank screen and blinking caps and num lock lights. I finally got vista restarted after turning it off and on a couple of times. Everything seems to be working, however the caps and num lock lights are still blinking every 2 seconds. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

    HP Pavilion Dv4

    Hello,
The blinking caps and numlock are a diagnostic feature of the Dv7 Notebook ( and others ). Depending on the combination it can be a number of different symptoms. They can be as minor as the battery having an insuficient charge or as serious as a CPU failure. I would recommend updating the ROM BIOS on your unit to ensure you have the latest fixes.- Make sure you have the latest one for your model - Here is a link to a document on the Blink Codes.

  • Caps lock Num Lock sign

    Hi
I have a Toshiba all in one and I am getting the Caps Lock, Num Lock signs hanging in the middle of my screen.  When I reboot it can be moved to the bottom of the screen but after a while it just stays in the centre of my screen which becomes very annoying.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this permanently.
    Thanks

  • CAPS and num lock?

    hi all,
when i need to use caps and num lock(both on at same time) to write an essay, sometimes the computer freeses. Why does it do this?

A freezing computer isn't a good thing - is it always happening with a specific application? And if so which one? You can try launching Disc Utility and repairing permissions if you haven't done so - also, the app. called Onyx is great for running your regular maintenance scripts, and it's free as well.
Sometimes a restart may clear things up too. Try some of these and see if there is a difference.

  • Cpu upgrades for dv4-1222nr; also confirm that caps-lock/num-lock repeated flashing is cpu failure

    1) What CPUs can I interchange in the dv4-1222nr?  It comes with the amd rm-72
    2) won't boot - fan powers up then powers down, then waits approx 12 sec, then caps lock & num lock flash approximately every two seconds.  I interpret this as repeated flashing of one, but it keeps flashing.... diagnostic document says it's supposed to repeat only 6 times.
Scenario: Closed the laptop lid, which caused it to go to sleep, but this time it never awoke!.  Fan has been grinding but still worked, however upon dissasembly discovered the heatsink was partially plugged.  ALWAYS RAN HOT DUE TO POOR DESIGN. It was a hot day, and closing the lid actually increases the temperature.
    3) I presume, and I am pretty sure about this, that this laptop has no thermal shutdown threshold, i.e. shuts down automatically when it gets too hot.  Every desktop motherboard I've seen allows thermal limits to be set.  Another fail.

  • G510 Caps Lock/Num Lock indicator

    Hi!
Is there any way Lenovo can create a simple program for Caps Lock/Num Lock indicator for G510? There is practically no way of determining if Num Lock is enabled or not, only by testing manually.
Would love to have that kind of app.

    Welcome to the forum !
There are several free third party applications that will accomplish the same thing.  Basically the application loads at Startup and places indicators for the Caps Lock and Num Lock down in the Tray or on your Desktop.
Here is the results of a Google Search for those applications..........

When I return to my desktop after the macbook has been put to sleep sometimes the CAPS LOCK / NUM LOCK are activated on keyboard. Actually it's not activated, it is only the small green dots on the keys that shine, however when typing anything it's not in CAPS.

  • Caps lock num lock blinking 4 times

My hp pavilion dv4-2145dx will not boot up, the screen is dark, the fan is running and the
Hard drive works. The number lock and caps lock led's are blinking simultaniously 4 times, then there is a pause and then they blink 4 times again. Does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

    Hi
4 blinks indicates Graphics Card or Graphics Controller issue. It is a hardware issue.
Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes or Beep Codes During Startup or Boot
In notebooks graphcis cards are mostly integrated..so motherboard replacement may be required.
If the system is under warranty then you can call tech support or otherwise you can check in HP Parts store for spare parts.
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • Bank recognizes user id but not the password(cap lock, num lock and password carefully checked)

When I try to log on to my bank, the bank recognizes the user id but the password the bank sees is not correct. I went through the process with a tech at the bank watching at their end. (cap lock, num lock and password carefully checked) When I switched to Chrome browser no problem logging on. This just started a few days ago. Any ideas?

Today I tried Firefox again and the bank login worked. I only had trouble with my bank recognizing the password (that I very carefully typed). Other sites such as Hotmail had no trouble recognizing my password. I worked with the bank tech guy and tried to log on with him watching at his end. I even reset the password a couple of times. What he saw was the correct user name but incorrect password. He claimed no knowledge of any such issues with the bank software. When I switched to Chrome browser I had no trouble logging in.
The problem is solved for now.
    But what happened?

  • Chime, Blank screen and weird caps lock num lock behavior...?

So i get the chime, then the blank screen and nothing else except when I hold the num lock or the caps lock button it blinks rapidly. What does it mean?
    It's 12 in 1.2Ghz,

    Hello,
Hard to say exactly what the problem is without some trouble shooting ...
Try booting in Safe Mode. Go here for instructions.
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
Safe Boot is a special way to start Mac OS X 10.2 or later when troubleshooting. Safe Mode is the state Mac OS X is in after a Safe Boot.
The iBook HD may need repairing... here's help with that:
Testing and repairing a disk or volume
When you have problems with a disk or volume, use Disk Utility to test and repair it. Disk Utility also reports the S.M.A.R.T. status, which tells you whether your disk has hardware problems that will cause it to fail.
To repair a disk, you need an administrator's password. If you don't have one, ask an administrator to repair the disk with Disk Utility for you.
You can verify your startup disk with Disk Utility, but to repair it, you must start up your computer using another disk. For example, you can use your Mac OS X Install disk.
In addition, you cannot test or repair write-protected disks, nonrecordable CDs or DVDs, or disks with open files.
Close the files and quit the applications on the disk that you want to repair.
Open Disk Utility, and select the disk in the list on the left.
    Click First Aid.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. Status at the bottom of the window. If you can't see the S.M.A.R.T. Status, be sure you selected the hard disk your volume is on, and not the volume itself.
If the S.M.A.R.T. Status is "About to Fail," back up your files on the disk as soon as possible and replace the disk.
If the S.M.A.R.T. Status is "Verified" or "Not supported," click Repair Disk to repair the disk.
If Disk Utility cannot unmount the disk, be sure you have quit any open applications and click Repair Disk again. If it still cannot unmount the disk, repair it just like you would repair a startup disk, by starting your computer from another disk, such as your Mac OS X Install disk.
If Disk Utility tells you to look for links to corrupt files in the DamagedFiles directory, some of those files are overlapping on your hard disk and are likely to be corrupt. Examine the affected files, each of which is listed in Disk Utility's output on a line that begins "Overlapped extent allocation". Most of these files have aliases in the DamagedFiles folder at the top level of the affected disk. If you can replace the file or recreate it, delete it. If it contains necessary information, open it and examine its data to make sure it has not been corrupted.
If Disk Utility cannot repair your disk or reports "The underlying task reported failure," try to repair the disk again. If that doesn't work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat your disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and restore your backed up data. If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced. See an authorized Apple dealer for more information.

  • HP Laptop. Blank screen and caps and num lock lights flashing.

    Hi,
I hope you can help me.
My laptop is the HP Pavilion DV6-1216sa, bought new in September 2009. When I turn it on, I get a blank screen, the fan is working and the wifi, volume and mute lights light up. The caps lock and num lock lights flash together, once everyone 3 or 4 seconds. Normally when this happens (it has happened throughout the life of the laptop), I turn it off and turn it back on, and it works again. However this time, the problem persists. I've tried most combinations to get the bios screen up and I've tried getting it to another screen via hdmi and VGA, but no signal received. I have tried everything recommended by the HP support website. I have checked the battery, ram, and hard drive.
    Best regards,
    Jay

The best cheapest fix is if you can remove the motherboard your self and send it to a refabricator who will check all the chips on the motherboard and reball the bad ones. Cost is about $60-120, closer to the bottom if you can ship them just the board but if necessary they will take the whole laptop and remove the board for you.
