Screen failed got wet

I spilled water on my second generation iPod touch.  The screen still comes on, but it is too dark to read.  The device still behaves normally when connected to my computer. – The iPod is two years old, and the warranty would not cover my stupidity, even if I did have AppleCare.
Does anybody have any experience with a similar problem?
What can be done to fix it?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
RJ

AppleCare covers water damage, so you can get a free replacement.

Thank you. I told it to the apple store in Southampton and they were fab. I was lucky and there was no water damage, the water indicators didn't change colour. It was just bad luck my screen failed at the same time as it got wet!! Screen changed and all is well. Thank you Genuis Tom and West Quay!!

    Most likely, water damage.
You can try putting your iPod in a tupperware, half filled (maybe half inch) with rice grains, close the cover for about a week.
If you have done this, as soon as it got wet, higher chances of success, now looks like the water moisture is getting to the LCD screen.
Then you can always bring it to Apple Genius bar, for a an overhaul. (may cost you half the price of a new iPod classic.)

Just the game or the phone as a whole? My guess is you have a hardware failure but there are a few things you can try if it's software such as resetting your phone or doing a restore. To reset press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons for about 10 seconds or so until the Apple logo reappears. To restore do a backup before proceeding:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

So my phone got wet the other day. I dried it out completely, but the touch screen still isn't working. Is there anything I can do short of getting a new phone? Anything that can be done at the nearest Verizon store? I am one of three phones on our plan and I am trying not to need to get a new phone before our contract expires next month.

    Hello wetphone!
We're sorry to hear that your phone isn't working. It's very important to have a functioning touchscreen!  Let's explore your options OK? If the phone is taken to a store, troubleshooting can indeed be done. The store representative can even contact us while you're there.  Do you have insurance on the device? Or, do you maybe have a prior vzw device that can be activated until the upgrade is available? You can also check your My Verizon account to see if your line( or another line on the account) is eligible for an upgrade. VZW always has options for you.

Iphone 5 got wet last week.  Been in rice until today.  It turned on and worked fine, I could see a water spot in the middle but still worked fine, 3 hours in it shut down to the black screen with apple logo.  Screen stays up for 10 seconds ago and then goes black and then black screen with apple logo comes back.  Any ideas what to do?

At this point it's likely that the iPhone has suffered damage and you'll have to take or send it to Apple for replacement. If you have AppleCare+ coverage on the iPhone, the cost will be US $49. Otherwise the cost will be US $229.
    Regards.

  • IPhone 4 got wet. Not immersed, but wet. Sound is on but no screen. Any suggestions?

iPhone got wet, not immersed, but wet. Have sound but no screen. Any suggestions? Been in bag of rice for 2 days:(

It ususally should be left off and in rice for 3-5 days. However, since you left yours on and you hear noises and screen problems, I would believe you have too much damage to recover from. As you have found, water and electronics don't mix.

  • My phone got wet and screen is black, please help?!!

My phone got wet and the screen turned black after a while, it is still on because I receive phone calls and can answer them by swiping the screen where I know to swipe. The phone rings and I can even have a conversation on it. The screen is black however, I cant see anything else or do anything else. I'm going to take the phone to apple tomorrow to see if its repairable. Any suggestions??? Its a 4s, have it for about 4-5 months...

    Try resetting the phone:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • IPhone 3GS got wet in rain and home screen appears zoomed

    Hello Everyone,
My iPhone 3GS got wet in rain and when i switch it on the home screen appears zoomed. Can anyone help me out to fix this issue. Is this issue can really be fixed?.
    Thanks i Advance,
    Rameshkumar

Did you let it dry out for a week or so?
Turning it on wet will likely finish it off.
If it is dry, then double tap with three fingers.
This is covered in the manual under Zoom:

You can try and put it in a bag of uncooked rice for 5 days or so, but don't get your hopes up. If that doesn't work, you get an out of warranty replacement or buy a new phone.

  • My IPOD touch got wet and now only shows a white screen.  How to fix?

My IPOD touch got wet (it was not submerged in water, just rained on) and now only shows a white screen.  How can I fix this?  I already dried it in rice, and reinstalled it on ITUNES.

unless you have apple care which even that probably doesnt cover water damage. youre gonna need to buy a new screen. probably set you back $60 something. look up ipod touch 4g lcd screen in google and look for sites like amazon or something. unless you wanna have apple charge you like 100 bucks for it or probably more

  • I need to de-authorize my old computer - had to buy a new one today because the old one got wet...I can't see the old screen - but can't use the new one until I can deauthorize the old one...is this a catch 22?

How do I de-authrorize an old computer?  I can't access it because it got wet...I can't activate the new one until I deauthroize the old one...seems like a chicken and egg thing...?

Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • Z10 got wet and now apps will not open

Yesterday my phone got wet.  After removing the sim card, sd card, battery and drying overnight it will boot up but now none of the apps will open.
When I press an icon (for an app), the screen looks like it's about to shift to the active frames screen but quickly reverts to the grid of all my apps. Even within the hub, i can't text or bbm or open emails but everything I've previously received is still there.
The WiFi and signal strength icons appear at top right, but the BlackBerry icon has disappeared.
The device still remains functional as a phone: I can make and receive calls and check voice mail.
I tried to back up but BlackBerry Link but keep getting a connection error.  The closest I got was getting past the password and initiating a backup, which then failed.  Most of the time Link simply will not connect to my phone.  I've tried rebooting the phone numerous times and reconnecting to link, but with no success.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day
