why does my screen flash when on internet and history sometimes deletes. I also have multiple apps i didn't have a week ago. on the 30th a pop up during a movie flashed and said something about blocking a remote connect. it showed up in the debug thing in usage.any help would be appreciated.

Screen flashing and other problems
I've had my computer for almost a year now (in august) and recently - the last couple of months the screen has been going crazy, flickering and dimming randomly while I'm using it. It will like black out in one corner of the screen then light back up and do it in another corner. It gets to be really annoying and has like a strobe affect sometimes.
Another problem I have is my computers speed. It is so slow. I don't have a lot of stuff saved on it either, I back up all of my files onto an external hard drive and cds and then delete them off of my computer, but it is so slow. A lot of the programs freeze up sometimes and do not respond or they will close randomly when I am working on important projects - which will then be completely erased because I haven't saved them yet (so now I have to make sure that I save them about every five minutes).
And also, my computer gets so hot. I usually sit on my bed with it on my lap or against my legs, but I have to cover myself with something otherwise the bottom of the computer heats up so much that it basically burns me. It produces so much heat underneath the screen, not where the battery is though.
Anyone know what I should do ? Please help. ThanksAdd another Macbook to the list. We bought the computer about 9 months ago and the flickering began a few weeks ago. Apple support sent me to the discussion board because our support is up. The flickering comes and goes and I have not made any connections with what may cause it but it seems to be when there is no acitivity, that is when I am sitting reading text or scratching my head. If I unplug the adapter the flickering stops or if I change the brightness the flickering stops. We run with the adapter plugged in almost 100% of the time.

Dupes and other small problems
I originally did not want to use iPhoto after buying my new SD800. I wanted to use the Canon software because of the way it allows you to save photos from dates into specific folders. However, I had problems getting the software installed (read, it wouldn't) so now I am using iPhoto.
I have a few videos on my camera (.avi's) and I used Image Capture to bring everything onto my harddrive. I opened iPhoto and it asked if I wanted to import, which I did. It imported everything up till the videos and then crashed. I reopened iPhoto and it wanted to import again, and I did. This time I canceled the import before it reached the videos and found that there were dupes everywhere.
Now iPhoto keeps telling me that there are 345 photos to import (which there aren't). I know that it will crash again when it reaches the videos but don't want to hide them or put them on a different harddrive. Any suggestions?
Also, is there any way to import my pictures/videos the way the Canon software does, by creating a sub-folder with the date and throwing all relevant photos in there? I keep all of my photos on external harddrives and cannot imagine doing this manually.
I am a little disappointed because I have heard so much about how easy things are on the Mac, but being a more technical person I like my data in places that are organized by me and not the software.
Is there any way to clear out iPhoto and start over? I can just hook it up to my externals and import all over again (till it hits videos it doesn't like)
Any ideas on organizing (for easy backup) photos on a Mac would be a great help!

Well, that's iPhoto.
If you're coming from a Windows Image Viewing background, it's easy to misunderstand what iPhoto is. It's not an image viewer, but a photo organiser. That is, it's a database, with a built-in image viewer, version control and lightweight editing.
By default, when you import pics into iPhoto they are imported into the iPhoto Library Folder. Then you manipulate them in the iPhoto Window - that is, create your folder structure, albums, smart albums, books calendars etc. All in the iPhoto Window - and iPhoto keeps track of the files for you. In essence, iPhoto says, why bother with file management, do the fun part and let the application do the dull bit. Also, another advantage is this: It's easy to create a date based folder structure in the Finder for yourself - Folder for each month etc. But what if you also want a 'Best of...' folder? Now you've got duplication, endless duplication. In iPhoto albums are "virtual", so that a single pic can be in 50 albums with no duplication.
If you want to, you can create your own folder structure and not copy the files into the iPhoto Library Folder (iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced: Uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library Folder...). I don't recommend this for a couple of reasons: it makes importing and deleting pics multi-stage operations, plus, things like migrating to a new computer or moving things around becomes more complicated too. And to no specific advantage.
But how can I find my pics, I hear you wonder: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Plus, the Film Rolls (View -> Film Rolls) correspond exactly to the Film Rolls in the iPhoto Library Folder / Originals folder.
There's only a single catch in all of this. Like any database, iphoto requires that you manipulate the data via the iPhoto Library Window, rather than a back door like the Finder. The good news is that everything you need to do can be done via the iPhoto Window - and I do mean everything.
If you want to consider another app, have a look at Graphic Converter. It has an excellent file browser, and is a really good editor. You will use Image Capture to get your pics onto the Mac - or if you use a USB card reader instead of your Canon, it will just mount on the desktop and you can drag and drop the pics to whereever you want them.
Have a think about iPhoto. It really is a very good and safe app. And you'll find there's a very supportive community here to help.

HT201401 Iphone 3GS screen flashes and doesn't display
Hi there
i have been given a Iphone 3gs 16Gb from a friend as they have upgraded to a nexus 4 and the screen connecter was damaged so i have now replaced the LCD with a new one now the screen flashes and doesn't show anything on the screen
there is no display at all not dark or dim display i have no idea if the screen is working but i have got two so called new screens and both are the same
i have recovered the Iphone as it connnects to Itunes and appears to fuction correctly with out any problems just not able to see what is on the screen touchscreen is working fine too as i was able to switch the iphone off as my friend had left a passcode on the phone so i put the phone into recovery mode from been on and recovered the phone
im out of ideas now please help

the iphone is now not displaying anything there is no flash or anything on the screen i have checked the 6r8 coil and it looks fine
the phone still connects to itunes and appers to work as normal but im unable to see any display so im unable to set it up so i can ring the phone and check

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds,but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Ipod screen flashes and chirps ???
I have a 20GB click wheel Ipod. Last night it just started to make a high pitch sound and then changed to a screen flashing and chirping sound simultaneously? The flashing and chirping continued and I could not do anything. It was basically frozen, then I connected it to the fire wire port and the apple logo appeared and it seemed to fix itself. The battery was dead, I don't know if that was a symptom. I restored the Ipod and I'm waiting to see if it happens again when the battery is dead. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Screen flashes and then goes black after CPU load
Yesterday morning I upgraded my MacBook Pro 6,2 (Mid 2010) to OS X Lion. Since then I've been having issues while performing CPU-not-too-intensive tasks. Every once in a while my screen flashes for a split second and then turns completely black. The MBP is unresponsive so I'm forced to shut it down using the power button.
At first i though this was a Lion issue. However, it has happened again just now while I was on Windows through BootCamp. I was checking my e-mail and performing some other mundane tasks for about an hour, and then while trying to copy some files to an external Hard Drive my screen flashed and went black.
Hardware issue then??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.It's already happened 4-5 times right when I pressed Cmd+D to bookmark a site on Safari. What the heck? That isn't even a CPU load.

Flash is not a video format. Flash is a platform that consists of a scripting language, and plug-in or application that presents a canvas and resources to run the scripts. It is possible for Flash to load video and play them in the canvas, but the video itself is a separate resource. Flash became a popular mechanism for video plaback mostly because the plugin was available for multiple browsers and the video codecs that Flash could load were consistent across multiple platforms, which made coding easier. It also made it simpler to add advertising overlays (especially before CSS3), and it was also a popular mechanism to distribute viruses.
In November of 2011, Adobe stopped development of and licensing of the use of Flash on mobile platforms, citing that HTML5 makes the primary uses for Flash obsolete. There is no version of Flash for iOS, or new or future versions of Android.
Adobe further indicated that they will be phasing out Flash plug-in support as well (such as the plugins used in Desktop web browsers), instead aiming to make Flash applications stand-along applications running on the desktop. No time table for that has been set, though they've just recently phased out Linux development. However, Flash is being actively developer for native applications and Adobe makes Flash Builder and AIR that allow you to make native applications for iOS and Android using the Flash development tools.
With regard to video formats... iOS natively supports MPEG-4 and various profiles thereof, and it supports the use of the HTML5 <video> tag to embed video in pages and in applications that leverage the WebKit environment to implement their UI. There are also apps that display other video formats. -
KT880 Slow Screen Draw and other problems
Is there a performance issue with the Kt880 boards that causes it to draw the screen slow, and causes the onboard LAN to fight with the USB controllers?
Do I need to reduce the FSB of my RAM @333 to the FSB of the 2400+ @266?
Maybe there are some BIOS tweaks that fix this problem?Not sure yet but I think I have sorted out most of the bugs.
Changing the FSB speeds and removing a stick of ram does nothing, except to reduce the system performance slightly.
Updated BIOS to latest. No change.
Repair install after removing Symantec AV 9 Corp, and System Works 2005. helped some.
Removing the NIC, uninstalling all Networking components then putting it all back really made an improvment.
Then I turned on the SATA controller and let it install the PCI to IDE bridges and that helped. Removed the VIA CPU to AGP driver and it reinstalled it's self. slight improvment on the screen draw problem.
Getting the USB to stop messing with the PCI bus was easy. I removed all the PCI cards RESET Bios data, reinstall VIA 4.53, added the PCI cards in one at a time then added on the 2 extra drives. Will change the drives to SATA next week.
I think the whole problem comes from the install CD I made with NLight. Nlight has an option to remove components, turn off SFP and modify the UXTHEME.dll, and the TCPIP.sys file.
After work Monday I will try a fresh install of Win XP OEM original on a spare drive, and update it to SP1, then SP2 and see how it goes.
So far game play is excellent with good frame rates and no crashes. My team mates were complaining of poor frame rates on a custom BF1942 DC Map with frames of under 10FPS where I was at 65 to 100FPS.

I own a 16GB iPhone 3G. My father passed it down to me a year ago after he got the iPhone 4. I pressed the sleep/wake button on the top of the iPhone to check the time, and as I did so, the screen flashed on and off and now the screen won't work. Whenever I put my simcard in there calls will go through but I am unable to hear them, but if I take it out calls don't go through. I've tried charging it for a while, connecting to my laptop, holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 10seconds to restore it, but nothing works. I've looked around and no-one'ed seemed to have this problem. I'd like to know what is wrong with my iPhone ASAP. thanks.
First, update iTunes, then connect the phone to the computer and do a restore. This will also get your iOS up to date. Your phone should operate correctly after doing this, if not, you will most likely need to have the phone serviced or replaced.

Screen flashes and no boot when DVD is inserted!
I have a new (2 months old) iMac. My wife put in a SIMS3 DVD and weird things started happening after that - the screen would flash, and then eventually go black. I took it to the Apple Store; they found a bad hard drive and replaced it, unfortunately ignoring completely the things I told them about the display going wonky. They gave it back to me and when I brought it home it seemed fine. I then put in a 10.6.3 Install DVD (for the purpose of restoring my whole system off a Time Machine backup) and again - it won't boot (whether or not I'm holding C to boot off of it) and the screen is going wild - flashing on and off. I managed to pop the DVD out (holding down Eject key during boot) and then it booted fine. So: what does it mean that the thing won't boot when a DVD is in the drive? Are there heating problems of some sort perhaps? Why would both the hard drive and the video/DVD drive be bad? Am I missing something? Ideas welcome! thanks in advance,

Thanks Dave. I was converting some of my DVDs to .m4v files for iTunes/AppleTV and set it to Ignore. Changed it back to Open DVD Player and all is as it should be.

Having trouble selecting music for purchase on iTunes Store because the screen flashes the visual images, then goes blank (white). Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Could also be that as you are an American .. you have an american creditcard, social security and all that...
now you try to log/connect in Germany .. this could be a security conflict as they will see where your IP is coming from ...
All in all, they want to prevent any kind of cardstealing and stuff ... just contact them, explain, and they will prob help you out!! ( cuz they sure doesn't wanna loose those nickels and dimes ppl put into their pockets )!!!!
