Screen flashes 2011 iMac 27 inch

Hi
My 2011 iMac 27 inch just have some display issues now. The screen turn a little bit dark and then turn the brightness back to normal several times in a second. (not due to automatically adjust brightness function, because I have turned it off, besides this function adjust brightness gradually)
this happens couple of times in a day. not alway like this.
I have brought my iMac to apple store twice and they replaced Graphic card and back light kit, but I still experience this problem.
What's the problem? Do you think the PSU is the cause?
Thanks
JH

Update..
Today, the screen keep flash, then suddenly turn black, but the iMac keeps running, I can tell it by the fan noise and the mouth led indicator.
What is wrong with it?
Thanks
JH

    Hello,,
    I have 1 question please,,,
does the new 2011 imac 27 inch from USA support or lay any PAL signal ??
    as for example
I have a friend who lives in the middle east &  has kanex xd & he wants to connect it with the imac 27 inch from Satellite receiver  or PS3 though HDMI cable,, but yet the signal is PAL not NTSC in the middle east,, so will the imac 27 inch play the movie from the satellite in full colour or in blue & says cannot play the movie because its not NTCS ?  because this is U.S version  of imac then he might need an convertor?
the same as if he want to record any hdmi or analog  device from his video recorder  device,,but the input is pal,,so will it plays normal in the U.S machine or will he find any trouble ???
so can you pls give me an advice for him
should he buy the imac from the U.S store or the europe store ??
N.b : there is no mac store ONLINE in the middle east espicaly in Gulf, thats why he want to buy the imac from the mac store online,,

  • When trying to empty the trash on my May 2011 iMac 27 inch OS 10.7.3 I get error code -50. Any suggestions?

when trying to empty the trash on my May 2011 iMac 27 inch OS 10.7.3 I get error code -50. Any suggestions?

Reboot and try again. If that fails, back up all data, then boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, select your startup volume, and run Repair Disk (not Repair Permissions.) If any problems are found, repeat. Then reboot as usual.

  • New 3.1 GHz 2011 iMac 27-inch running 10.6.6 won't update to 10.6.7

Just purchased the newly released top of the line 27-inch 3.1 GHz iMac today and it came with Mac OS X 10.6.6. I ran software update, says no updates. I downloaded the 10.6.7 update manually from Apple's web site and it says the computer doesn't meet the requirements for the upgrade...

I'm going to make a guess here: usually Macs cannot boot from a system that is older than what they came with. Now, even though 10.6.7 sounds "newer" than 10.6.6, these Macs just came out and 10.6.7 has been out for a month or more, it may be because of that. I am sure you'll probably be offered your own "special" 10.6.7 update through Software Update. If you simply have to know, call Apple and ask - you have free phone support for 90 days (without Applecare) or 3 years (with Applecare).
If you do call Apple, post back so we'll all learn something......

  • Cannot get my Samsung SyncMaster S27B370 to connect to my Mid 2011 iMac 27

Cannot get my Samsung SyncMaster S27B370 to connect to my Mid 2011 iMac 27 inch with HDMI to thunderbolt port adapter but works like a charm in Windows 7 when I bootcamp over to it. Any ideas? The cable is working properly as shown by the fact that Windows 7 uses both monitors perfectly. I am using Mac OS X Mountain Lion and have already done the option + cmd + p + r boot reset to no avail. It does not find the second monitor at all as in it doesn't even show up in the display preference pane.

    Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.
Apple's printing support documents contain a great deal of redundancy, but this one may be a good place to start: OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a printer to print wirelessly

  • TS2570 my imac 27 inch 2011 is not booting up, the i mac is stuck on a gray screen with no apple logo or anything

my 27 inch 2011 iMac is not boting up, the cumputer is stuck on a grey screen with no apple logo or spinnign wheel. The iMac is not giving power to the keyboard as it is not ligthing up the caps lock botton when pressed.

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • IMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) Constantly Crashing to Black Screen, Has Troubles Rebooting

I have an iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) with a 3.4 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, and AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB of memory.
Every day since Tuesday, the computer has been randomly crashing once or twice a day to a black screen. It doesn't matter what I am doing (surfing the web in Safari, listening to music in iTunes, etc). If there is music playing, I will get a constant stutter of audio in addition to the black screen.
When restarting the computer, it instantly goes back to either a black or gray screen after the Apple logo passes. Attempting to reset the PRAM or SMC does not fix the issue from reoccuring and I usually have to keep the computer unplugged for an extended period of time before I can get it back up and running. Sometimes I have to boot the computer up into AHT (Apple Hardware Test) or Internet Recovery to get the computer running back to normal.
When running both a normal or extended AHT, all of the hardware that is tested ends up passing. When running Disk Utility, it shows there are no hard drive related issues.
The question that I have is this an issue related to the AMD Radeon 6970M Video Card?
Back in March, my iMac's display began suffering issues with greyish smudge marks behind the glass alongside issues where it would freeze and become distorted alongside the black screen. When I brought it into an Apple Authorized Service Provider back in March of this year to have everything checked out, they replaced the display and nothing else as they could not replicate any of the graphical issues despite numerous calls to AppleCare. I ended up doing an erase and install of Mavericks and the 10.9.2 update ended up being a temporary fix for the issue.
Should I call back AppleCare and tell them I need my video card replaced or is it something else?

I have a iMac 27 Inch from mid 2011 with a 2.7Ghz Intel Core i5 processor and a AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB video card. The screen has started to go dark on the left side whilst the right side is normal. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it the video card that is defect?
    Thank you

Hello! I have a problem with the video card radeon 6970M, is the one that is described in this article ((((I'm from Ukraine,  and I purchased my iMac 27 " in the United States. When attempting to create an ISO image I can save the file in disk utility but can convert cdr to iso. I select the file and the hit return as in step 8 of the Creating an

The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
    1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
    2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
    3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
    4. Partition your drive.
    5. You can see the Windows installer screens at https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2.

I use the imac mainly for editing Video which when doing so it has reached temperatures of near to 60° C which causes the program to become unstable and needs to be cooled down to operate correctly.
An Apple technician (by phone) advised me to download an smcfancontrol.  This allows each individual fan to increase speed and also advises the current temperature at °C.  The smcfancontrol has been downloaded but this has not resolved the problem.  By increasing the speed of the fan more heat is generated and creates additional noise.
I have since taken the iMac to an Apple Store for examination as suggested by APPLECARE when the fans were found to be working correctly.  An Apple Store technician carried out a test, but not whilst working under the pressure of FINAL CUT PRO when the iMac generates a high temperature.

    Operating Temperature 20 °c to 35°C
    Storage Temp.47°c
Clearly the temperature my iMac  is operating at is excessive and could cause the computer to break down prematurely.  Has anyone experienced this problem.

When was the last time you cleaned/vacuumed out all of your iMac's vents, slots and ports.
You need to do this with the iMac powered down, disconnected from power and everything disconnected.
Lay your iMac, screen down, on a soft surface, like a heavy towel. Use a small electronics vac, or portable or full size vac with hose and a crevice tool attachment and carefully and slowly vacuum every vent, slot and port on your iMac.
Then reconnect everything up, power up and download and install iStat Pro. Start working, then report the temps of your iMac after this has been done.
When using SMCFan Control, it is important not to run the fans at too high an RPM. This doesn't generate heat on its own, but will suck in more dust, lint and dirt into your iMac, and that will be the cause of additonal increases in heat.
I run my fans in the range of 1400-1600 RPMs. You can go as high as 1800 RPMs but it is important to keep the RPM range below either 1800 or below 2000 RPMs.
I, also, run a very small desktop fan pointed toward the upper back of my iMac to keep temps down even further.

  • Bootcamp (iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011) Windows 7 (32-bit) or Windows 8.1 via iso file?

    Hey peeps,
I'm trying to bootcamp my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) from an iso file downloaded via Microsoft (DreamSparks).
The only versions of Windows DreamSparks offers are Windows 7 (32-Bit) and Windows 8.1, both of these are .iso files.
I've tried putting both versions onto both a USB and Rewritable DVD, but my iMac doesn't detect the install disk anywhere when running bootcamp.
Any idea how this could be fixed?
I read somewhere that my iMac doesn't support Windows 8+ and will only support 64-bit versions on Windows, any clarification on these two areas would be great.
    Thanks for your time!
    Charkizard

Your Dreamspark account should have an option for both Win 7 Pro 32 and 64 bit.  If not, you can download the 64 bit ISO at http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-24281.iso  The serial numbers provided by Dreamspark will work on both the 32 and 64 bit.
Once you have downloaded the ISO on your Mac you use Boot Camp Assistant to create a USB install disk that has both the installer and the bootcamp drivers.  You will need an 8GB flash drive to do this.
Open up Boot camp assistant, there is an option to create a Windows install disk. When you use this option, it *** for the location of the Windows ISO file, once you select the ISO that you want to use just follow the prompts. Boot Camp Assistant will download the latest Boot camp Drivers, and then will create a USB drive with the Windows installer that includes all of the Apple Specific drivers needed by your iMac.
Just note that this process can take over an hour to finish.  But once it does, you can then use Boot Camp Assistant to partition your iMacs drive and then install Windows using the Flash drive that you created.

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by one or more of these:
    a. Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
    b. Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
    c. Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
    d. The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Note that the information I have provided is what Apple recommends, If other users suggest different solutions than found here, then be sure what they recommend does not impact on your warranty, if any, or ability to get continuing Apple service.
Please don't start removing drives or changing cables unless you know what you are doing and have exhausted other non-invasive alternatives outlined here. If you perform any work yourself that is unapproved by Apple, then you will void any warranty you may have and lose all further Apple Support.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD. Simply boot from the Recovery HD to perform the above.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. 2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
