Screen flashing on error, despite being disabled

I have the setting under universal access to disable the screen flash on error, yes it's still doing it everytime an error occurs (i.e. a "beep" should be audible if searching a webpage for a word that doesn't exist.)
Anyone else having this issue?

That's good news.
The new account is using information from a brand new Preferences file which is unaffected by whatever made yours misbehave.
Do this: Go to the Finder and select Go to folder like so:
then type library like so:
oops, posting too fast... stand by while I edit this...
As I was saying...
Click Go, then find the folder called Preferences and open it. Then find the files called
com.apple.universalaccess.plist, and
com.apple.systemsound.plist
and drag them both to the Trash.
Log out.
Log in again and open System Preferences > Universal Access. Configure all four tabs the way you want, then close System Preferences.
Does that fix things?

Time Machine error message despite being disabled

Hey
So, despite having time machine completely disabled in my system settings and killing the backupd process, I still get a popup warning from Time Machine trying to run and complaining about not being able to find the Time Machine disk. I've followed the various tips to delete various plist files, but to no avail. I've also done the thing with connecting a new disk, assigning it as the Time Machine disk and then changing the settings to not back up, and disabled Time Machine again, also to no avail.
Clearly this is being triggered from somewhere, but I'm stuffed if I can find where. Any suggestions about finding what is triggering Time Machine other than Time Machine itself?

Did you ever use a 3rd-party app, such as +Time Machine Editor,+ or manually edit any "plist" files, to change Time Machine's schedule of hourly backups?
If so, it's still doing whatever it was last told to do. Use the app to reverse what you did (if you've deleted the app, download it again to do this).
If not, when is it doing this? When you first start up? When it wakes from sleep? When you connect an external HD? Other?

OAM Policy Protecting URLs despite being disabled

I have run into a situation where OAM is configured to protect a URL, however the policy is not enabled.
Despite this, the webserver is still acting as though the policy is enabled.
I have tried the following steps without success:
enable/disable policy (I see the policy is being updated correctly in the OID Policy Store)
recycle Policy Manager
recycle Access Server
recycle Identity Server
recycle OID (configuration policy store)
I realize that I can "disable" the policy by just commenting out of webserver config.
Anyone else have ideas?

There can be a multiple ways to troubleshoot this issue :
(1) Access Tester : Try to see if any policy is getting applied to the url ( where you see the issue )
(2) On server webgate :
see the logs when you are trying access the url . This will tell you if your resource is protected and what going on .
Finally , just Comment out the Webgate config in you httpd.conf file and see if you are still able to access the site.

Screen flash disabled but happens anyway

My Mac has started flashing the screen instead of beeping. It's exactly the same effect as you'd get if the Accessibility pref pane's "flash the screen" option was enabled, except that it's not enabled. The checkbox in System Preferences is not checked.
I also verified that the preferences property list file affecting this setting shows it as being off. In ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.universalaccess.plist I see:

<false/>
In case it makes any difference, the system sound is otherwise normal and not muted. I'm listening to music from iTunes, but getting screen flashes instead of beeps.
This happened a couple of weeks ago, and rebooting the Mac got things back to normal. Why does it keep happening? Is there something I can do to stop it from repeating again? The screen flash is going to give me a seizure.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the grey Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal.

Redwood showing as failure (error) despite the loads being successful in BW

When a particular DTP step fails due to data issue we can make the overall status green manually thus pushing the chain further. Whereas in Redwood side this is showing as failure (error) despite the loads being successful in BW Side.

Is this for a process chain triggered from CPS or triggered in BW (see also your other question regarding interception/monitoring of BI process chains) ?
If the process chain is triggered from CPS, the control is assumed to be at CPS so the restart should be done from CPS as well.

Error 6 while restoring iPhone 6 with red screen flashing

I was trying to update to iOS 8.0.2 which failed. Since then, I have been trying to restore my device to the earlier version. While I try to restore, iTunes would say "extracting software" after which it would say "waiting for iPhone" and then I get this "An unknown error has occurred[6]" On repeatedly trying, once I got an instance when there was a scary red screen flashing right after the apple logo that shows when booting the device. Error 1015 is usually a downgrade error. If you are restoring to 4.2.1 firmware then this is most often due to iPhone having iPad baseband. Did you get this iPhone from someone else? If this is the case you will need to search the web for help. Search for iPad baseband, 1015, etc.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Installing Win 7 via Bootcamp on 27' iMac 2010 gives BLACK screen, BLINKING cursor error (BSBCE)?

Hi All,
All coments appreciated regarding thiis issue.
I have a 2010 27' i7 2.93Ghz iMac with 8Gb ram, 2Tb Seagate, and 256 Samsung SSD.
I am running 10.6.8 with all updates on the 2Tb Seagate (has BC 3.04), and 10.7.1 on the Samsung (has BC 4.0).
I have tried over a dozen times to install Win 7 (both a 32 bit Professional edition and a 64 bit Ultimate edition) on BC partitions on both drives. These have been all on separate occasions of course.
All installs result in what appears to be a successful install, but when the machine reboots to launch Win 7 for the first time, I ALWAYS get a black screen with a blinking cursor error (BSBCE).
This is not the 2009 video card driver issue problem reported so widely and referred to in the Apple article TS3173. I had that model previously and the way around that was to connect a second monitor/LCD for the installation.
No this is a new and separate issue.
And I am no nubie. I have used IT for over 25 years and teach networking courses in the Win and Mac environments.
The problem appears to be in a corrupt boot loader install.
I have used both WIn 7 install disks to do a repair each time. The repair says it is successful but after rebooting all I get is the black screen and flashing cursor, with no keyboard response. I have used both Bluetooth keyboards and USB keyboards. Nothing seems to make a difference re getting WIn 7 to boot after the install on either drive.
I have also used the Bootrec commands in the command window. They all return a successful outcome but when rebooting I see the ever familar BSBCE.
Now,,,,,here is the real puzzle. I copied my previous Win 7 Ultimate install using Winclone before I sold my older 27' iMac.
If I restore that install to the 2010 iMac Win 7 boots fine!
So some error is happening on my current machine when the bootloader/bootmanager is being written to the BC partition.
The problem is there with the BC on both 10.6 and 10.7, and these are different versions of BC!
Now to further complicate the problem, I manage 12X 2011 21.5' iMacs in a lab at work. Win 7 Professional 32bit installed on these machines just as it should (same disks that produces the black screen flashing cursor).
I have read that some people thing it is a Boot Rom version issue, and there may be some substance to this as WIN 7 installs so easily on the 2011 iMacs in my lab.
I called Applecare about this and went through the procedures outlined above. The guy was very helpful and sympathetic but he had no answer to the problem. His suggestion was to pull the SSD out and do it again with only one drive. As the machine can ship from Apple with both of these drives I really do doubt that pulling the SSD would make a difference.
Mac OS 10.6 and 10.7 work fine, no problems on both drives, so I don't think it is a drive issue.

The log file indicates there are permissions issues on a couple of files and they are not being removed. This is preventing the installation of the new version. Please run the uninstaller, posted here Uninstall Flash Player | Windows, and post an updated FlashInstall.log file, and a screenshot of the files remaining in the /Macromed/Flash directory after running the uninstaller. Please only run the uninstaller and do not attempt to re-install at this time.

OpenGL being disabled. (MacBook Pro 2008, Mac OS 10.9)

I opened a file I had been working on yesterday on a different Mac, and got the error message: "3D functionality is currently disabled due to OpenGL being disabled." I am currently using MacBook Pro (2008), running Mac OS 10.9, using PhotoShop CC. I've already looked at Ps Preferences>Performance and I see this. (see attachment)
How can this be solved? Thank you.

This is not a new post, but I can't find how to start a new thread. I'm hopeful that someone will see it and suggest a remedy for my OpenGL not being fully functional.
I'm using a Mac Pro, 16GB dual processor machine in OS X (10.7.5) with a Radeon (Mac Edition) 32 mb AGP Vesrion graphics card. I suspect that I may be experiencing the same problem as Anna (above).

Screen flashes.

Here is my set up: 2x2 GHz G5 (first gen), 2 GB RAM, retail Mac Edition Radeon x800 XT with 256 MB VRAM, Apple 30" CDHD. After a long and difficult clean install (you really do need to disconnect ALL peripherals) I noticed that on quitting certain applications there was a VERY annoying screen flash; think PhotoBooth but eye jarring greenish orange. I concluded that very likely there was some problem with the Apple supplied video drivers and my x800 XT. Looking at the AMD-ATI site the only updates there are are from January 2005 - ATI Radeon 10.3.6 Update and December 2005 - ATI Displays 4.5.7 Update. Looking at what each contained the 1/05 had many of the same driver files that are installed with Leopard but I thought they would likely be older versions. I decided to go with the 12/05 update that only had the ATI Displays pref pane, ATITVOut.kext and the ATI ROM Xtender to install. knowing full well that if it hosed my system I'd be looking at re-installing. The install went well with only one error message saying that ATITVOut.kext was improperly installed and could not be used (doesn't matter to me I'm not going to hook up a TV anyway). After a restart the horrendous screen flashes are gone. The only residual is the 3D dock flashes when some programs are quit but moving the dock to the side eliminates that. I hope this may help anyone having the same problem.

According to Apple's published specifications for the Dual 2.7GHz PowerMac G5 (http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/PowerMac_G5_Early2005.html), with an ATI Radeon 9650XT Display Card (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301752), this computer should be compatible with the Apple 30" Cinema HD Display at a maximum resolution of 2560x1600.
Many (if not all) user's with this configuration are having problems with the screen flashing a translucent red (or green) every time the Dock redraws itself. Apple's discussion forum is full of threads show this problem is not isolated. As in-exhaustive casual search reveals the following forums discussing the issue: 5778689, 5754920, 6629446, 5707564, 5940039, 6688852, 6652805, 5682100, 5675621, 5976534, 1195747.
I personally have opened several support cases to try to resolve this issue. Until now, Apple's senior level technical support representatives and apparently engineering are stating that it is a hardware incompatibility even though all documentation states otherwise.
Today, a senior level technical support representative agreed with me that it is a software issue and will resubmit this to engineering. That fact that disabling Quartz Extreme fixes it and that the flashes show up on another computer when Screen Sharing is active in Leopard all point the fact that it's not a hardware incompatibility (as they have said thusfar).
So have hope, maybe they'll fix this in 10.5.4

Nano: Only works when directly connected to USB despite being FULLY charged

Hello all! This is my first topic/thread so I'm unsure if this is the correct spot to post this so please let me know. My issue concerns my Nano 8GB inability to play once fully disconnected from the USB/computer. This past week i noticed after having added some music that my battery indicator was on empty even after being charged for hours; i've never had charging problems with my unit before so I decide to reconnect it and let it charge overnight but to no avail. Once i remove the ipod from the computer the upper righ hand batt indicator was still showing empty; one day though the batt indicator actually had some life showing a sliver of "red" as to let me know there was some charge but a very low one so i decided on reconnecting it for another evening. Keep in mnd that despite the indicator showing empty i was able to play music/movies for a few days straight with no problems leading me to believe that its charging system was fine but that some type of glitch or software error was to blame for the indicator showing nothing.
But suddenly while listening to music the next day the ipod stopped playing and showed me a warning screen "Connect To Power" via a yellow triangle exclamation symbol right next to the BIG BATTERY symbol u get in the middle of the screen, and then shut itself off. From this point on my Ipod has not regained its ability to play independently and is confined to being connected via USB @ all times if I want to enjoy any of its content. Basically it can't run on its own anymore, however when i plug it back to the USB all my music/movies are accesible through iTunes and play w/out problems. Even when I hit "safely remove hardware" and the ipod ends synchronizing with the computer but is still hooked up to the port it will work in my hand normally without issues as it always has. It even shows me the little battery indicator on the upper right side fully green w/ the usb symbol in the middle recognizing its still hooked up to the USB port while I listen to my media; but IT MUST BE CONNECTED via USB cable for it to do anything at all once its removed all bets are off and my ipod won't work.
Also you know how after one "safely remove drive E" your Ipod basically SNOOZES if connected but not in use, well the screen that pops up is the Battery Life Screen where the BIG BATTERY symbol I saw in the WARNING Screen tells u how much u got left. Well guess what mine says whenever plugged into the USB port: CHARGED with the indicator nice and full of GREEN. But again once i remove that USB cable the ipod goes black, tells me I need to "connect to Power" and won't turn on or play music or even let me reset it; its like my Ipod has become a Phetus being kept alive by its Umbilical Cord.
I don't know if I've explained myself clearly but honestly i've been trying to read up on this type of issue EVERYWHERE but I can't seem to find any other cases like this one. I mean if its the battery wouldn't the ipod be completely unable to work even while its plugged in to the computer? This is very bizarre

Yes, once I 'safely remove from drive' the ipod works normally I can listen to my media, change settings and even reset it by pressing MENU+center button. During resetting it goes straight onto the screen showing the Apple logo and then retuns back to automatically synchronizing with the computer (since its still plugged in to the usb port) and i can go into itunes and play my media via laptop. What type of servicing are you referring to? Should I try buying a new battery or sending it to apple so they can figure it out?
Two things which happened yesterday which were sorta demoralizing:
1 After unplugging my ipod from USBport the screen would automatically go black, right after I would hit the PLAY button and would get the "Connect To Power" Warning screen but under very Low Backlight before shutting itself down again. You could hardly see it, but now it doesn't pop up at all or give me any type of warning just a BLACK screen, so the only way of getting the unit to do anything is via usb connection.
2. Also the day before I had fooled my ipod into being connected to the usb even though I was pulling the usb cable very slowly from underneath its adapter; sorta letting it touch the adapter but not really hooked up to it. Well I managed to get the cable off and my Ipod to work for less than 10 seconds but I was able to scroll down the Main and Playlist menus without any lag or lack of Backlight before it went out. I tried it once more and it didn't work plus I don;t see what the benefits of doing so would be @ this point. But having said that does anyone think it could be a simple battery issue or is this harddrive related? Again the Ipod only work swhen connected to my usb & tells me its fully charged, but once unplugged it goes completely blank...

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery. You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.
