Screen flickers when running games in Windows XP

Okay, so I'm running Windows XP 32bit sp3 through Bootcamp. I have to say that Windows doesn't run perfectly through this, probably due to compatibility issues. I'm running a 24" iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.
Basically, here's my issue
Screen starts to flicker when playing games, I'm guessing because it is somewhat graphic intensive. It starts happening gradually after playing for say, 20-30 minutes. Sometimes it gets so bad that it is impossible to even play. The screen might also start "tearing" if you understand my meaning. When I exit out of the game when it has been flickering for a while, the screen still flickers indefinitely afterward, not stopping. Restarting temporarily fixes the problem. I have tried various methods in attempt to fix this, including updating my graphic card drivers and even pressing the "Use inverse telecine" button under the Nividia Control panel. But all in all, nothing significant has changed and I haven't found a solution. My computer should be able to play the games, since I am far over their requirements (I am trying to play Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam).

I set it to a minimum of 600 on ODD, 2500 on HDD, and 1700 on CPU and it seems to work pretty well, but right now I have it set to about 3500 HDD and 2200 CPU. At this moment in MAC OSX, my iMac's temperature has been at 88ºF for about 10 minutes since startup running Safari.
You can play around with it, but it might get a bit noisy as you put it higher. I haven't bothered too much with the ODD because I've been playing Battlefield 2 which doesn't require a CD with the newest patch.
The main thing I would pay attention to is CPU, since that is where games use a lot of energy.

These are my current specs: iMac 27 inch, intel i7 quad core 3.5 ghz, 16gb ram and 1tb sata hardrive with nvidia gtx 780m.
Ive installed windows on my mac and have discovered that when running games the temperature is much higher. For the same game on Windows i've had my CPU run at 80-81 C on roughly all cores and my GPU temp went up to 85 C. On mavericks same game runs at temps of 58 C for CPU and 71 C for GPU. However on mavericks the frames rates are lower even when running same settings as on windows.
I tend to think that mavericks is somehow limiting my hardware in order to keep the temperature down whereas on windows on my mac I can really feel the kick of the system yet the temperature goes really high. Is there any way to sort this out?

gpu driver optimising is much more used in windows it give better fps but less stability and as you notice more heat and more noise as the fans work harder
lower the eye candy and resolution is a cure

Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick. I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally. I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again. I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time. Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black. I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]

Well I'm not to sure by what you mean "Which games run on Mac". There are not many that run on Mac that are that great although there are a few. Mostly for any great games you would need to run Boot Camp. Keep in mind though that you still need a version of Windows, so if you don't have one laying around somewhere you still have to buy that. Have you resolved your flickering issue? It looks like I have the same on my Ideapad Y550P. Screen flickers occasionally when I work connected to the power adapter at home. And what is more concerning is that the brightness control also stops functioning sometimes.
In your case how has the situation evolved? Has your laptop been repaired or you just live with it as is or has the issue deteriorated into something worse? Just want to get some arguments in my discussions with the SL2 support who cannot reproduce the problem in their office...
Any extra informaton is much appreciated.

HP Laptop screen flickers in some games

Hello,
I've bought an HP laptop since January and to be honest I am preety dissapointed as I've had a bunch of problems with this laptop, and from Forums i've noticed that I am not the only one.
The problem here is that the game flickers in some games, such as Skyrim, The walking dead and other examples. Whenever in window mode, the game runs perfectly (however this is a bit unconfortable).
I've tried everything that i've read on forums and so on, however without succes. I've also checked the GPU drivers ( I have dual GPU, AMD Radeon 7450 HD with Intel 4000 Series) and it seems that the Catalyst does not work when i click on "Configure Switchable Graphics".
This is driving me crazy and i would really appreciate help in this case.

Hmmm it flashed right after a unplugged the computer but for some reason it isn't flickering, maybe when the battery gets low then it flickers? Since last flicker was just about 2 days ago.

Screen flickers when using magnetic lasso

Hello,
First I want to say that my english is kinda crappy so, sorry for that.
My problem is, when i'm drawing a line with the magnetic lasso tool, after a few seconds the screen flickers one time and my line is a selection.
Same with the color picker, when I hold my left mouse button to choose a color it flickers and is "Not responding".
I'm using CS4 and Windows 7

There were several issues with mostly the MS InteliPoint drivers, but also some of the Logitec SetPoint drivers, causing just such behavior in Adobe programs' GUI. In those cases, just removing either the InteliPoint, or SetPoint drivers, as has been mentioned, cleared things up. Going back about two years, I'd guess that three releases of the InteliPoint drivers did this horribly. It seemed to have been fixed with later releases, but recently showed back up in both the PrPro and AfterEffects fora.

How do you exit a game from full screen mode when the game has crashed?

Hey there
There has seriously got to be a better way of exiting a crashed game than just turning the power off.
I sometimes play Sims 3 on my mac, and we all know that Sims 3 is the most poorly coded game out there, so it crashes a lot. I don't understand how you can get out of the full screen without switching the machine off the wrong way.
I have tried every single keyboard command people say to exit full screen mode, but they don't work when the game has crashed! In fact pressed every single button on the keyboard to try and exit, but nothing works.
On Windows it's so simple, you press the start button on the keyboard, but on a mac it doesnt work.
So any help to what i can do?

Force quit just the game itself.
Command + option + esc
It's like control + alt + delete on Windows.

Screen flickers when resuming from sleep mode

I have a newly brought T430 laptop with the Nvdia graphics card. Sometimes when I resume from sleep mode, the screen flickers before entering into the desktop view.
Is this a problem or normal? I hope nothing is wrong with my gpu. Is there a way to check?

I don't agree. I had no problems at all with my MacBook Pro running Tiger. I initially did an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard and when the problems started I assumed it was a problem with the upgrade. PC restarts when running games since GTX 970 install

Hi all,
my PC build is 4 years old and has been stable until I replaced a Radeon 6950 with a GTX 970 last night. Am I missing something or is my card defective?
All drivers are up to date, and I used the GeForce Experience to "optimize" graphic settings in these games.
Crashes (sudden PC shutdown and restart) only occur occasionally, only when in-game:
Bioshock Infinite (in menu, once). Proceeded into gameplay (20 minutes) without problems.
Heroes of the Storm (in game, 3 times during a 2 hour session). Some games ran fine.
World of Warcraft (once, after tabbing back from the desktop).
Evolve (once, while one of the monster intro videos was playing).
PC Specs:
Windows 7
i5 2500k @ 3.3 (I previously had it a 4.4, but bumped it back down. Still crashing).

Your motherboard running latest BIOS? Ask asus for this.
Is your RAM factory matched (all 4 slots in one box) or 2x 2x4GB ? Try with single RAM stick/kit.
Try to completely uninstall AMD drivers and nvidia. Then reinstall nvidia.
Install >>Driver Fusion<<
Go into Safe Mode, run Driver Fusion and remove all amd and nvidia drivers.
Reboot.
Install nvidia drivers. Then reboot and try again with games.

It appears you have an issue with the graphics card. You should run the Apple Hardware Test.
