Screen freezing randomly.

Tried verify and repair disk, or permission. Reinstalled mountain lion and using migrate from my time machine backup. Nothing happen, still screen freeze randomly and the mac just crashes.
Spec of my mac:

Ouch - thank you very much for the update.

  • Screen freezes randomly

    Hi.
I have a problem.  My screen starts to play like a broken record randomly.  This problem started like 2 days ago after I did a huge update after hurricane sandy left me w/o power for a week.  I seriously don't know what's going on.  I would suspect it's the video card. A GTX 550 ti.  Let me know what other specs you need.  I'll keep it short because seriously it might freeze any moment.

One more thing.  It seems like if I get to get past 10 minutes on the computer, then it just doesn't happen at all anymore.  If the screen freezes it will freeze within the first 10 minutes.  Thanks for your help.

  • Screen freezes randomly for short periods of time [Solved]

I'm not sure when this started to happen, but my screen will freeze (not refresh) randomly for short periods of time (about 5 seconds). The mouse cursor still active and anything I click on will eventually catch up once the screen refreshes.
I'm assuming this is an Xorg issue, or perhaps and Nvidia issue, but here are some details:
    KDE 4.4
    Kernel 2.6.32-ARCH 64
    Nvidia 195.36.15
    And here is my Xorg.conf:

What you can try is to add:
    option "UseEvents" "false"
(also try "true" and see if it works for you)
to your xorg.conf under the device section. Play with both false and true settings, UseEvents is somewhat related to the short freezes and the nvidia guys mentioned they disabled this feature a few driver releases ago (as far as i know from researching their forums). Otherwise we probably have to wait for a new driver series.
Another tweak would be to check if you use MSI for your nvidia card:
    cat /proc/interrupts:
    22: 0 4 1106 297835 IO-APIC-fasteoi ohci_hcd:usb3
    23: 1 17 3275 890447 IO-APIC-fasteoi hda_intel
    27: 2 13 1035 342106 PCI-MSI-edge ahci
    28: 5 337 26356 7568321 PCI-MSI-edge eth0
    29: 6 92 10219 1998835 PCI-MSI-edge nvidia
    NMI: 0 0 0 0 Non-maskable interrupts
add this to /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf: (does not work with all nvidia cards but i can confirm it works with the 200 series)
    options nvidia NVreg_EnableMSI=1
While using MSI slightly improves performance some people reported it also shortens the occasional freezes.
As said in the post above this is only for nvidia and it may or may not help for some gpu's.
    Best regards

  • Screen freezes.

    Hi,
I've got a strange problem - or it's more like a frustration. My screen freezes randomly and it's only my screen. Everything else works like a charm. I can stop my music, play next track and so forth.
To fix this I have to A+C+F2 and back to F1. But I want to stay clear from this problem all together

Need more info? Please tell me.
I have done this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus when installing my drivers. For the first time I've got 120 constant fps on dota2 with full video settings on linux - so I really hope this isn't the problem

The problem haven't occured since I downgraded to 3.13.4-1 (I wasn't sure how far down I was suppose to downgrade). But could I ask one more thing? Since I followed this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus I now need to use startx twice to start OpenBox. At first it wont find any screens but the next time I use it it works.

      Dear Staff
I have a consultation with you. Because my sister is updating the IOS8 I phone 4S. Then was not able to use it. Random screen freezes apple. So bring your instruments to Restore Center. Machine can use it. But can not access the page that actually works. Because of the problems with ID of icloud.
She forgot the ID of the user and that of the other. I caught only a password is *******. I would like to ask for technical assistance. What should I do to get back to work normally. Or you can reset the ID and password or not., And set to work. If you do not have an iPhone, this airplane. It becomes a good paperweight itself.Hope you will understand. Buying splash, it is not easy because it's expensive.Learn to understand and to help.

It is locked to your sisters carrier.
She would have to ask her carrier if they unlock iPhones and if she qualifies for this service.

  • X freezes randomly, screen turning black or flickering

    Hey everyone,
I'm having this annoying issue where X freezes randomly, I can't tell exactly when it happens. But when it happens, the following occurs:
    - Screen is frozen, sometimes turns black, sometimes turns black and reappears, but still frozen.
    - Cursor and sound (e.g. music) still works
    - When switching to a new tty (CTRL-ALT-F6), I can log in and restart gdm using
    sudo systemctl restart gdm
    - When I'm in the other tty and trying to switch back to the graphical view, I get stuck completely, not even switching consoles works now.Reset is the only option from there
    - Blindly restarting gnome-shell doesn't work
I somehow have the feeling, it happens more often when I physically move my laptop, but thats just a gut feeling. It also happens often when my screen is locked and I try to log back in.
I found this bug report, but its quite old and that doesn't help me: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14594
Any help would be very appreciated, its really annoying to lose my work so often.

  • T410 random beep sound( from machine for less than 5 mins) + screen freeze + Blue Screen (some time)

I have new purchased T410 during christmas time.
here is my machine spec(everything from Levono, did not upgrade any parts):
    T410, model 2516CTO
    8 GB RAM
    i7 CPU
    500GB HDD
    Integried graphic card
Windows 7 professional (applied all latest updates)
Problem random happen, for about 8 times,
    System works regularly
and all of sudden machine make continousely "beep" sound(from machine, not speaker),
    after that screen freeze,
and then sometime system go back to normal, sometime crash completely to blue screen(most time).
The whole problem takes about 3-5 mins.
1 time it even happen in safe mode (after log in, desktop freezed immediately, then blue screen).
I chkdsk the whole disk found no problem.
I call Lenovo tech support, he ask me restore the original OS(Windows 7 home prim), then he can help me.
I refused because that's mean i have to destroy all the work I done (spend almost a week to install development tools and software) .
Since the problem is random anyway, I just reboot and bakeup more offen. :-(
I used Thinkpad since IBM time, never have problem with previous 2 T Series machines, but this one, not happy.

  • Random screen Freeze, but mouse is responsive

    Hi,
For the last month, I have been having random screen freezes , requiring me to hard-boot the computer. During this freeze the mouse is responsive. I wait 15 minutes to see if the freeze goes away before rebooting.
I have re-formatted the disk and installed Mountain Lion, again , but it did not help. Most of the time it seemed to happen when I am using Safari, but this is not always the case.
    The hardware tests came clean.
I have isolated the console logs to the following just before the issue happens. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • 1 month Toshiba satellite A505 s6033 freezing randomly and blank screen on startup

    Hi,
My Toshiba satellite A505 s6033 start freezing last night when I was surfing the internet. After pressing 5 seconds or more the power button the computer turned off.  After that I start it back on but all the lights on body worked except the display.
After few more attempts I pushed arrow down and the power button the display turned on, but the freezing problem is back. So I thought that is a windows problem and I used the recovery partition to restore the state out of the box state. But the display is randomly blank when I push the start button except the other lights, and after restoring the laptop still freezing randomly in or during the windows is loading.
When I turn it on in safe mode, it works perfectly fine. When I turn it on normally, it freezes almost right away.
I bought this computer from bestbuy, but I am an Romanian citizen (sorry for my English), my question is : I can use the International Limited Warranty in my country ? Or what should I do to fix my laptop.
    Kind regard,
    Valentin

First, sorry because of my English, it is not my language and it's been a while since I had to used it.
This is happening to me, when I bought the laptop I had a few times that it froze but I thought it was something I did, and it happened once or twice in 3 months, for 9 months, maybe 4 times in the last month, it began to increase.
Then I thought it could be the temperature, and after a while, 2 months, I didn't had time, I bought a external cooler, but it didn't work... By this time my warranty expired... And thinking it could be dirt, I opened the back, but just by removing it I saw it was clean and put it back, I did nothing but opening... And again started looking for what it could be... Yes, I tried looking here, but I didn't find this topic that time, and now that I don't have the warranty I found it...
Any one here could help me? What should I do? Is there any way to fix it without buying a new video card?
I live in Brazil so its difficult for me to buy parts, I bought the laptop in the states when there, here the hardware are expensive... But if I have, I'll buy... If I have to buy a new one, could you tell me if there is a new one that I can buy that has little difference in price for the one I have and it's better?
PS: Toshiba from Brazil didn't helped me, I just spoke with then...
I thank you for any help!!

  • Mac Pro Screen Freezing Issue with NVIDIA 8800 GT too

There were lots of entry in threads, where the screen freezing issue was described (disorted screen with strange lines, only reboot helps). Nearly all cases seem to be related to the ATI 2600 card.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1358062&tstart=30
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1365277&tstart=0
I opened this new thread to show, that this problems occurs not only for the ATI card but for the NVIDIA 8800 card, too.
My MacPro was delivered 8 days ago and was running without any problems. But all of a sudden, I got that screen freeze. And it wasn't the first time, I was heavely working 2-3 hours with that computer.
In total, 2 screen freezes showed on my computer. The first one during working with the computer. The second one during booting into MacOS X. The screen freeze occured during the boot phase with the grey screen and the spinning wheel.
    My configuration:
    MacPro 2.8, Dual Quad Core
    6 GB RAM
3 harddisks, 1 standard from Apple, 2 Samsung with 750GB
    MacOS 10.5.2
    Formac 20" Monitor
Perhaps others have this problem, too? Than we should emphasize, that this is not an ATI related problem.

I've actually been having the freezing issue for a while now but I didn't have the know-how to troubleshoot it (PC tech trying to support the only Mac lab in the building).
MacPro will freeze randomly (no trend in time, system strain, or open programs). The mouse will operate but will not interact with anything.
    Specs:
    MacPro - Model 1,1
    Dual Core Xeon 2.66
    2gb RAM
    nVidia GeForce 7300 GT
    Mac OS 10.4.11
The machine always has 2 displays connected to it so the workaround that was discussed for the ATI 2600 doesn't apply. I had 1 display connected here in my shop and it froze for that as well.

  • How can I fix problem of Screen freezing in Fullscreen view display.

Click Vie , Full Screen. Have multiple tabs open. Screen freezes. Prompting does not drop the tabs back down to switch pages etc. Happens randomly, several times a day, since upgrade to Firefix 9. Prior to that I never had an issue with the Full screen feature and used it ALL the time. Please help.I do not want to lose this feature!!!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • System freezes randomly in Mac OS X Leopard

I have a problem with my system which freezing randomly. When it freezes, I can still move the mouse pointer around, but I can’t move or open any object on the screen.
It doesn’t seem to be connected to a particular program since it might occur in various programs. I checked the hardware and also catalogue structures, authentication and so forth with disc warrior. Another odd thing is that I can’t seem to beable to boot from the installation DVD. I’ve looked in the various logs (for example the crash logs), but there doesn’t seem to be any notation of the freezes on any of the logs. Another thing is that I sometime have trouble starting the computer, pushing the on-button doesn’t result in anything. Is there anything else I might try before reinstalling the system?

  • IPhone 6 plus screen freezes intermittently - forced restart required

I'm on an iPhone 6 plus with 128gb running 8.1.2.
It seems that intermittently (recently mostly in iMessage; which hasn't been behaving since 8 & yosemite) my phone screen freezes.
By freeze, I mean it is visible. It will even paralax on the home screen so some CPU/GPU stuff is working, I can even click and double-click the home button, but touching the screen elicits no response what so ever.
Recently a new version of the problem has only started in iMessage where I am getting some results, but never anywhere close to the target I actually touch.
    Is this a known issue?
Is there a solution, that is known to work?
Is this a hardware problem or software problem?
I have removed all non-apple keyboards because it seemed to always start when I was typing someplace (regardless of keyboard used).
    Suggestions? Help!
    Thanx!
    -- Dave

I've been having similar issues with iOS 8.1.3 on my six plus. It will freeze exactly as you describe--home button works, parallax works, but touching the screen elicits no response. I can also double-press the home button to bring up multi-task view, and I can scroll through the open apps, but I can neither change to another app nor swipe apps up to close them. The freezing occurs most often within the Messages and Email apps, but I've had it happen in Safari, Settings, Calendar, etc. When it happens, its usually a second or two after I open one of the apps in question. Once it freezes, I have to press the lock button and then unlock it, and then everything works fine again for a period. Restarting the phone doesn't really help, as it will randomly freeze again when using one of the aforementioned apps. Apple support recommended I try backing up to iTunes and restoring the phone using the Set up as New option. It seems to have helped a little. Maybe its my imagination, but it doesn't seem to be freezing nearly as often or as long (knocks on wood). But it did not alleviate the problem entirely.

  • DTUs freezing randomly in XP VDI sessions

    Software:
VDI 3.2 (upgraded from 3.1) on three Solaris 10 10/09 x64 servers in the recommended HA bundled MySQL config (primary, first secondary, second secondary)
    Desktop provider is VSphere 4.0.
This issue primarily affects a VDI pool of ~65 Windows XP 32-bit desktops.
Any affected desktops already have the Oracle VDI Tools and SunRay Windows Components which were bundled with VDI 3.2.
    Hardware:
Sun Ray 2 and 2FS models, upgraded with the firmware provided with the VDI 3.2 release (GUI4.2_140993-03_2010.06.21.19.00)
Smartcards are mandated for hardware Sun Rays.
In the last month or so, we have started seeing more and more random "freezing" of sessions whilst users are already logged in and working - users are typically just using Office, Firefox, Thunderbird etc. - nothing complicated!
Essentially, their screen will randomly freeze completely and the mouse pointer cannot be moved. The only way to fix it is to remove the card or kill the session with CTRL-ALT-DEL-DEL-Bkspc-Bkspc.
Upon doing so, the session comes back to life immediately and they can continue working.
Here is a portion from /var/opt/SUNWut/log/messages which is produced at the moment the session freezes on the server that happens to be hosting the session (I've changed the server hostname, username and domain name for security reasons):
Dec 14 10:56:57 vdiserver utauthd: [ID 794400 user.info] SessionManager0 NOTICE: EMPTY: ACTIVE session

, clientAddress=127.0.0.1): No preferred servers found for [email protected][ExitCode=15]
Can anyone offer any help? I know about the "no preferred servers found" error, which I think is produced since we're not using the "Global VDI Center" feature - correct?
The main issue certainly looks to be caused by uttsc, which is simply crashing...
    Any ideas?

@turbotiga - thanks a lot for all this info. Really helpful.
    A few questions/comments:
    a) Is this information about which patches are already (or not) applied to the full VDI releases published anywhere? I can't see mention of it on any of the wikis - how have you discovered this? It would be great to know this detailed info - for future releases too - e.g. what patches are already rolled into in the SRSS/SRWC components included with VDI 3.1, 3.2, 3.2.1, and which have not been and why? EDIT: Just noticed that the release notes mention that VDI 3.2 includes "SRS 5 Patch 3", whilst 3.2.1 includes "SRS 5 Patch 5" - guess that explains that....
b)Our suppliers (who also initially installed the systems) had recommended that the versions of SRSS and SRWC etc. that are bundled with the complete VDI packages are included for a reason at that very specific patch level to provide the best matches/compatibility, and that we shouldn't ordinarily install patches for other versions of SRSS etc. against the VDI installation as a whole (I guess unless otherwise instructed to do so from Oracle/Sun). That is why I had assumed that upgrading to 3.2.1 would be a better solution (albeit it will involve considerable downtime compared to patching individual components since it involves taking down the database and rebooting etc.)
The patches now only seem to be available from the My Oracle Support site (which requires a contract number to access) so it's a moot point anyway since we don't have the rights to get at them any more...are they available from anywhere else?
I would be very happy to give the installation of patches a go rather than upgrading fully to 3.2.1 in the first instance purely since we can't afford the amount of downtime that a full VDI upgrade produces right at the minute...is it definitely safe to patch our 3.2 installation with later SRSS/SWRC patches (against the recommendations of our suppliers) rather than going the whole hog and upgrading to 3.2.1?

  • I-phone 5 touch screen freezing

My iPhone 5 keeps freezing and won't allow me to type then decides to shut down the text message it screen I am using. I have turned the phone off and on and keeps happening not all of the time but enough to become annoying, can this be fixed?
I don't want to have to take it into the store as it doesn't freeze on cue and it freezes randomly, it is under warranty but didn't know if I could fix the issue?

I dropped my phone on the floor, there was no physical damage to the appearance but now my touch screen isn't working. I have tried to reset it several times but this was ineffective. It appears to be working fine other than this, as I can see messages people have sent me but can't unlock my phone to read them. HELP
Well maybe the drop did more damage than you think, even if it doesn't appear to be any damage.
usually a reset will resolve the issue, but since it didn't, then schedule an appointment with the genius bar and take it to the Apple store.
May need to buy an out of warranty iphone or have the screen replaced.
