Screen Glitching on MBP OS X 10.10.3 (pic)

My screen has started to do this glitching thing occasionally. It happens in apps as well as just the desktop image. It is very intermittent. See picture. Of course my warranty ran out last month... but I am wondering if this is a big deal or just an annoyance? Here are my specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
I have the auto switching on for the graphics cards if that makes a difference... but can anyone offer some advice on what this is and is it a sign of a serious problem? Thanks!

@Mixitloud, I have installed from scratch OSX 10.10, applied 10.10.2 combo update to my Macbook Pro, and guess what: the annoying blink bar gone. I didn't install 10.10.3 yet, I need some more time, I think I can do this tonigh.
jennifer31416, thanks for your post.. but.. my Macbook Pro isn't a Retina model. But can help Mixitloud.
BUT.. there is light at end tunnel!!!!

  • 13" MBP Screen glitches and computer freezes when I hold it wrong...

Sorry for the newbie question. I just got my MBP and ordered the Kingston 8gb deal on buy.com last week. After install I noticed if I pick up the computer and hold it on the right hand side almost underneath the option button, the screen glitches and turns into a bunch of colored lines then crashes. I have to hold the power button down to shut it off then restart. I kind of feel a little bit of give at that area...is that a known issue or does it have anything to do with the new 3rd party ram? Please help!

  • My 2012 Macbook pro has a screen glitch.

My 2012 Macbook pro has a screen glitch. When typing it backspaces and takes awhile to load what is being typed. Also the screen will flash. This happens not always but quite frequently. Any ideas on what the problem is?

You should contact AppleCare as soon as possible.
MBP is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.

Standard troubleshooting step for these kinds of issues is to reset SMC.

  • Why does my iPhone screen glitch up?

My iPhone at times does this random thing where the screen glitches. My screen ends up looking a bit like the crystal have burnt with weird multi-coloured vertical lines all over my screen, making the iPhone unusable for 5 mins before returning to its normal self. Sometimes it fades out onto a black screen and every time this occurs, I have to reset my iPhone and it's back to normal.
I'm unsure if it's coincidental, but many times this happens, I have either lost service or wifi/both. Also this tends to happen when I'm low on battery, just charging my phone or have just finished charging. This usually happens once a day or every 2-3 days sometimes.
I've tried restoring my phone and all but it doesn't seem to have done anything.
Does anyone know how to fix this or know what is happening?

I forgot to mention. Usually after the glitch and when my iPhone returns to normal, the apps on the bottom row of the page (on all pages) all go to the next page e.g. if you have 3 full pages of apps pre glitch, after this glitch you will have 6, 3 containg 4 rows of apps and another 3 pages containg 1 row. I don't know if this gives an indication to the root of the problem.

  • Macbook Core 2 Duo screen glitch/flickering??

My late 2009 macbook has a bad screen glitching issue anytime you move the screen. Sometimes I even have to hold my screen in a certain place for it stop from glitching so i can use my computer.
If I took my computer to the apple store for a repair.. how much do you think it would cost?

If your capable of doing your own repair you can replace the inverter board using the step by step directions here

  • Iphone5 screen glitch after update to iOS 8.1.1

my iphone screen glitch after updating to iOS 8.1.1.

You need to be patient. There is no need to post again within minutes of the first post. Try force closing the App Store app and then reset the iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Leopard 10.5.5 Update - Freeze on Boot, Apps Freeze, Screen Glitches, etc..

After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.5 I've been experiencing MANY issues which I think are related to how 10.5.5 works with my video card (see below for system details):
If I shut my computer down it takes about 20 tries before it will boot completely without video glitches and freezing
Each time I start the computer it gets a little farther in the boot process before freezing
I have tried starting in Safe Mode but the computer never gets past the Apple logo and spinning wheel
I have tried Zapping the PRAM and this seems to help get a little farther in the startup process but doesn't do much else
All applications will freeze up randomly, giving me either a glitchy screen, spinning color wheel or both
If I ALTCMDESC during a application freeze, the Force Quit screen appears and the frozen program will work okay again (without me having to quit it)
Sometimes the computer will freeze and the screens will completely and flash different colors. This requires me to hold down the power button until shutdown
Repairing disk permissions gives the same error after every time I startup. As if every time I shut the computer down some disk permissions get messed up.
I have uploaded images of the screen glitches I have been getting as well as a text document with my Disk Permission Repair Report here
    http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batchdownload&batchid=Y2o4Y050dENYSHhjR0E9PQ
If anyone has experienced problems similar to these and has any suggestions on how to fix it without rolling back to 10.5.4 please share.
    Thanks

Screen glitches and system crashes that still persist even while booted from the Install Disk points very strongly toward a hardware problem, even if AHT can't find it. Things to consider:
AHT asks that you disconnect non-essential pheriphals to run the test, & it doesn't test them. But you can just by removing them temporarily. (Note the the installer disk will boot the system even if no hard drive is installed.) Extend this to everything that can be removed without making the Mac Pro non-functional, including anything non-essential in its PCI slots.
Even though third party RAM is more suspect than Apple-supplied RAM, the latter can go bad as well. Try every combination of the minimum number of modules needed to run the OS on your Mac Pro to see what happens. You can also try extended RAM testing with Rember. You may also find the "Press" links at the Rember web site useful for more info about this, for example Troubleshooting Tools: Memtest and Remberfrom MacFixIt.
Physical inspection of the hardware sometimes also helps: are all cables & connectors (both internal & external) tight & in good condition? All covers in place & properly oriented? Any foreign objects lodged anywhere in the case, especially small bits of metal or other conductive substances? Mac Pro's are very cleanly designed inside as well as out, but it is still possible that the problem is caused by something like this.

  • Screen glitch on macbook pro when opening

When I open my Macbook Pro after it has been closed for a while the screen glitches. It happens for a few seconds and then goes back to normal.
I couldn't get a screenshot of it but it looks kind of like this (except filling the whole screen and slightly less dense):
I'm interested in how to fix it but more interested in making sure it isn't going to lead to greater problems. I can honestly live with it if I have to but I want to make sure it won't get worse.

Just select Print in Safari and then, in the bottom left-hand corner, select PDF and you can save it to whichever flavor pdf file you like.

  • Screen glitches and macbook pro crashes

I have a 2012 15" MacBook Pro running Lion. Sometimes the screen glitches out, gray lines appear on it then my computer freezes and must be restarted sometimes it will beep 3 times when restarting and other times it won't. It happens mostly when I open programs like iMovie, Photoshop, VMware Fusion, and one time, Spotify. Is this a virus, software issue, etc? An error message usually appears after being restarted. It does it all the time please help.
It asked if I want to report the error to apple. I did and I coppied the report.

    Mike,
It sounds like a hardware problem, but you can try resetting the SMC and PRAM:
    SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
On the SMC reset, use the option for a battery you should not remove yourself.

  • MacBook  Pro screen glitches out, gray lines appear on it then my computer freezes and must be restarted sometimes it will beep 3 times when restarting and other times it won't. Is this a virus?

I have a MacBook Pro running mavericks. Sometimes the screen glitches out, gray lines appear on it then my computer freezes and must be restarted sometimes it will beep 3 times when restarting and other times it won't. Is this a virus, software issue, water damage, etc? An error message usually appears after being restarted. It does it all the time please help.

No Virus. You have a Hardware Problem. 3 Beeps means a RAM problem. You could try Reseating the RAM is its sockets.
But that wouldn't necessarily cause the screen to Glitch Out, as you say.

  • IOS 6.0.1 has more screen glitches than 6.0

Updated to iOS 6.0.1 and now is experiencing more screen glitches compared to 6.0. Has anybody faced such problem?

I 've updated 2 iPod touch 4th gen, iPhone 4S & 5 and iPad 3rd gen and I can't see what you are seeing.
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

  • What kind of LCD screen is the MBP display?

I have a 2007 Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. I'm curious what kind of LCD screen the display is. I know TN is the worst, and something like ISPS is better...

The screens in the MBP are provided by one of three manufacturers: Samsung, LG, and Chimei. Although there is a host of debate about which is the best between Samsung and LG, everyone agrees that Chimei screens are the worst.
The Samsung panels tend to be more "vivid" compared to the LG screens (although you'll only notice this difference if you compare the two side by side.) The LG screens tend to be less susceptible to "yellowing." If you get a good, defect-free Samsung panel you hit the jackpot. It's the best of the three.
To find out which one you have, go to System Preferences > Displays > Color > Open Color Profile and scroll down to line 13. Post the code next to "Manufacturer Code." (It should be something like 0000009c68.) Bring it back here and someone will be able to tell you what screen you have.
Of course, unrelated to the screen, the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro was the first to introduce LED backlighting.

  • Screen glitching out

Hi, I just updated my laptop to 8.1 today, and after it taking about three hours or more to actually update, I found that the screen majorly glitches to the point where I am unable to click on anything. It will switch back and forth from my desktop screen
to a blue screen about every 2-5 seconds, and it is very annoying.
I was able to open up Internet Explorer by clicking on the icon right before the screen glitched, but I can still see it glitching behind the window. Also, I have no taskbar icons at the bottom of the screen, and if I move my cursor up to the top right corner,
no icons to search or open settings pop up. If I close out of Internet Explorer, the screen just starts glitching again, but this time with no icons so I have to restart the computer.
I am not sure what went wrong, but I just want this to be fixed so I can actually use my laptop. Right now I am not happy with 8.1.

    Hi,
Did you run the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant before upgrading? Did you see any incompatible information?
I would like to suggest you update all your drivers especially video card driver to check the result:
1.Right click start button and the click Device Manager.
2.On the Device manager windows, you will see a section called " Display adapter ", click on it.
    Select one of the following:
3.Now right click on the video card shown and select " Update Driver Software ".
    Or
4.To update the drivers manually, write down the name of the video card from the "Device manager" menu under "Display adapter". Go to the manufacturer's website, get the proper driver to install your own computer and
5.Restart the computer to take effect.
