Screen Glow

Just wanted to throw this out to see if anyone else has seen this. I have my X set for maximum battery saver, display brightness set at about 30% and the screen set to go blank after 30 seconds.  Several mornings I have noticed  the battery has lost maybe 30 to 40% charge overnight.  Well last night I woke in a dark room and noticed a glow coming from the droid.  It was just a slight glow but definitely visible in the dark room,  Hit the power button and the battery  was down to 60% from a full charge.  Pressed the power button again to blank the screen.  Turned the light off and there was no glow this time.
Has anyone else seen this and if so maybe you might have a solution.  Thanks in Advance.  Oh, I also received the software update two days ago and no problems noticed at all.  It does seem to reboot much faster.

I've noticed the same glow.  It occurs for me if I unplug it from the charger with the screen turned off.  Turning the screen on then back off shuts the glow off for me, but I'm not sure how long it would stay on if I left it alone.  I expect it now, so in the morning when I unplug to go to work, I just automatically turn the screen on then back off.
Hmmm...I wonder if the new update will affect this behavior?

Why does my lock screen glow green? It does it quite often, no affects on  the phone.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Blue Screen, Glow Worm, Watch OUT!

    Warning!
I installed Glow Worm and it locked up my programs. I couldn't force quit any docked program and the imac with Leopard wouldn't shut down until I quit programs. I got the neon pizza spinning several times. So I pushed the on off button and it wouldn't shut off. Finally I pulled the plug and on reboot I got the blank blue screen and pointer in the top left of screen. After looking in forms I learned to do a safe mode boot and uninstalled Glow Worm. Then I restarted the mac and all seems fine now.
Should I have done something different?
Shouldn't Apple remove Glow Worm from the Apple site for outside vendors?
Do I even need Glow Worm?

No, you don't "need" it. And it is obviously not compatible with 10.5 (the requirements state 10.4 and make no mention of 10.5). Incompatible applications account for a huge percentage of 10.5 upgrade failures. Arguments over who is responsible for these incompatibilities are rampant but the point is that many apps that "worked fine" under previous versions of OS X do not work under 10.5. This is especially true for any apps that use kernel extensions.

if i stream for 8 hours at work and keep my screen on the entire time will it shorten the life of the screen

The screen itself would not wear out, however the LED backlights that make the screen glow do have a limited life span and over time they will become dimmer and shift color somewhat. This however would take years to accomplish. You'll be replacing your phone before you have anything to worry about.

  • My ipad wont go out of recovery mode eveytime i press to restore and update it says error 3194 has occured

my ipad is in recovery mode and eveytime i go to restore and update a message  comes up saying error has occured 3194

Yes, I'm having the same problem.  My iPad Air worked great on OS 7xx but since updating to 8.01 and now 8.1, the display went crazy.  Now, I'm also stuck in the restore loop and the iPad is useless.  Oops, it finally looks as if it is going to restore as I'm writing, we will see what happens.  All my data was erased as well.
All for nothing, itunes says the device has been wiped but it will not start (the screen glows and that is all.)

    Hi Ben,
Another sleep issue and adding to your post... My MacBook Pro (2.7ghz early 2011)
Leaving apps open and closing the "lid" and then going to bed... several times thru out the night my MacBook will start to wake up.  The optical drive spins up (DVD is in the drive), the hard drive fires up, I think i can see the screen glow ("lid" is still closed).   Then it sets itself back to sleep (must detect the closed lid).
Did not do this with Mavericks or other earlier OSs.
I have not begun to try to figure this out... today is the day!  lol.

  • It was working and now it's not

I was listening to music throughout the house all day so iTunes was sending to the Apple TV for the theater speakers. I turned everything off, did some stuff and then decided to listen to some more music while I worked. I turned on everything including the TV this time so I could select music from there. iTunes is on but it no longer can connect to the Apple TV. I get this error message.
An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (-15000).
I double checked the TV input and it is correct. The screen glows slightly and if I press the remote buttons I hear the familirar beeps but nothing else is happening. There have been no power outages or anything else weird happening since I turned it off and back on beyond the passage of an hour or so. What's happening?
I will go disconnect the power and do all the usual stuff but there is no good reason why this happened and all the messages I could find concerning similar unknown error messages have gone unanswered. Does no one know what is happening?

    Hello ladybastet,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I found this article while researching the issue you are describing named Error -3256 or -15000 when streaming to AirPort Express base stations using iTunes found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2278.
I would recommend the 10.5.1 or later section.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) sleep wake problems under Yosemite

    Hi,
Ever since I installed Yosemite on my MBP (details in the screen shot below), I've been getting Sleep Wake problems.  At night, I simply close the lid of the laptop, leaving all applications running, and in the morning I wake it up.  This worked fine under Mavericks on this laptop, but since Yosemite, every time I open the lid, I've had problems.  Initially, I'd open the lid and the machine would restore from what looked like a deep sleep (screen would get an alpha layer on it, and the little progress bar would appear, as though it's waking from the battery running out).  I ran Disk Utility, which found and repaired an issue on the disk (can't remember the details, unfortunately), and ever since then, when I open the lid, I have to hit the power button to get the machine going.  It restores in about 15 seconds (nice and fast), and it does re-launch all of the applications I had open, but the machine will also show a little system alert, indicating a "Sleep Wake Problem".  Each time I see it, I submit the issue to Apple.  Because I'm an idiot, I forgot to copy the crash log from this morning, but I'll do that tomorrow and append it to this thread.  Meanwhile, if anybody is having a similar experience and can isolate the cause, I'd love to know.  A few variables which might matter:
    * I have a Thunderbolt external hard drive which I use for Time Machine.  Each night, I eject the disk before shutting the laptop down (I bring the machine home with me each night).  My laptop used to have issues ejecting external disks, which I traced (thanks to this board) to an issue with attempting to put an external drive to sleep (I think that was the issue).  I haven't had any issues since that time.
    * The apps I have running all the time are Mail, Safari, Coda (text editor) and VMWare 8, which is running a Windows7 VM.  That's been my environment for years now, yet the sleep-wake issue only started since upgrading to Yosemite.
    Any help/advice is appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • IMac 24" mid 2007 video card

If my video card is bad will the mini dvi port work for an external monitor. My screens glows around the edges and flickers colors along edges also, no video at all. Thank you in advance.

    Kenand,
Well you belong in the Intel forum but...
If my video card is bad will the mini dvi port work for an external monitor.
    No
My screens glows around the edges and flickers colors along edges also, no video at all.
    From the service manual:
"1. Make sure all software updates have been applied to the computer. Refer to KBase article
303903, Intel-based iMac: Installing available updates or to Apple Downloads “iMac Software Update 1.2 (Tiger) or iMac Software Update 1.3 (Leopard)."
"Reset your computer’s PRAM (Parameter RAM):
    -- Shut down the computer.
-- Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R.
    -- Turn on the computer.
-- Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys simultaneously. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-- Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for thesecond time.
    -- Release the keys"
    Reset the SMC:
"To reset the SMC on an iMac (24-inch 2007)
    1. From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the
power button for approximately ten seconds until it powers off).
    2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    3. Wait at least 15 seconds. The SMC reset occurs automatically once the iMac has been
unplugged from the AC power source for several seconds.
    4. Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
    5. Reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
    6. Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
Note: The iMac (24-inch) does not have a button on the main logic board for resetting the SMC,
which eliminates the need to remove the computer’s cover to reset it (as required for some other
    models)."
Report back. There are more tests but the front bezel and access door will have to come off.

  • Firewire Target disc mode - icon is freezing

Looks like my old Powerbook is getting close to biting the dust. I've actually worn a hole in the track pad and the cursor is getting jiggy. It's running 10.3.9 and is completely full. Oh, and the screen glows a sickly color of yellow.
Honest, this thing should be in hospice.
Good news is - I have a very nice 17" Powerbook, and I've just purchased Leopard and installed it, so I can transfer a lot of my stuff from the old machine to the new one.
But... for some reason, when I connect the two with a firewire cable, and I see the icon floating around my old computer, the icon for the hard drive doesn't show up on the new machine. Also, after a few minutes, the icon that's drifting around freezes.
I've connected computers this way many times before and never had this problem, I'm guessing it's got something to do with competing operating systems. Anyway other way to get them linked, or am I going to have to transfer my data a different way?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.... I'm going to call an ambulance for my old machine now....
    Jamie

In my experience, a Mac that will not run in target disk mode usually has either a hosed HD or a hosed MLB. Try Thomas's suggestion but if that does not work, you may need to pull the HD out of the "old" Mac and put it in an external enclosure. If the MLB is the issue, the drive should still work as an external. If it's the drive thats messed up, you may need to use a program like Data Rescue.

  • HT2412 iMac "deep sleep" problem

Hi, I have a iMac 27" Late 2012 and it keeps going in "deep sleep" when I leave it unattended during the day. When I come back, I have to wait for my mac to load the saved state which is quite long. I had many macs in my life and it's the first time I encounter the problem. I've seen that sleep mode before when my MacBook would be out of battery, but never on a desktop... My energy saver settings are set to never sleep (computer) and 15 minutes (display). My setting in Privacy/Advanced/Log out after XX min of inactivity is also off. I checked my hibernation mode in the terminal and it is set to 0. Out of ideas. Anyone ?
    Thank you !

I have the same problem on my black MacBook. My problem is intermittent. Sometimes restart works; sometimes I'll select restart, but after the logout it never really shuts down. Black screen, glowing status indicator, completely unresponsive. I've also left it overnight with no change. The only "fix" is to do a hard shut down with the power button, whereupon I'm presented with the annoying "computer wasn't shut down properly" message on startup. No kidding! But no matter how many times I report it, no response.
I've tried resetting the power manager, I've tried zapping the pram. I've tried reinstalling the system -- I just nuked and paved this weekend, with no change. So either it's a hardware problem, or something fundamentally wrong with the OS. But since I don't hear a lot of people complaining about this one, that makes me think it's specific to my (and your) computer...
I called Apple about it while still under warranty, but got no helpful suggestions. The nearest apple store is 7 hours away, so I can't just pop in and show off my problem

  • IPod froze. I've tried everything!

ejected my iPod from computer and next thing I know the screen glows blank white. When I reset all it does is power down beep 3 times then power back up to the blank white screen again? I have tried the "five Rs" nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

When Resetting hold both buttons down fro mor than 15 seconds, it may take a couple of trys.

  • Snow Leopard, World of Warcraft & iTunes Crash

Was searching through these and other forums, but haven't seen anyone else with this issue. Upgraded to Snow Leopard. WoW runs great. iTunes runs great. Everything seems to run very fast...
However, when I have an iTunes video window open while playing WoW it freezes the machine cold. Never used to do this in 10.5 (I like to watch video podcasts while playing).
Anyway, dunno if this is a WoW problem or an iTunes problem or a Snow Leopard problem. Anyone have any ideas? Everything else works great--just iTunes video while playing WoW simultaneously...

    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1

There does appear to be a video quality issue with WOW using NVDIA cards. I'm using the 8800GT.
WOW's "Full Screen Glow" effect does not function, and if you have it turned on, it negates all multisampling (which is a separate setting used to reduce aliasing).
If you turn off "Full Screen Glow" the multi-sampling returns.
Bottom line is this is either a driver issue, or a WOW issue, or possibly both. Time will tell.
The current fact remains that under Snow Leopard, one of the Mac's great games looks somewhat horrible now.

  • E71 BUG

I have just buy the new nokia e71 and I Have found this bug:
    - I can't send to two or more contacts "business card" to another nokia... (only to one contact)if I selected two or more contacts and i press send "business card" not appear
    - the contact list is obsolete... in fact I can't see all "group" at the same video screen... i must search group as a contact name by scrolling list. n70 group view is better
    - back light keyboard malfunction... when there is low light (twilight) not always back light is on...
    - the contact list not function very well if windows live is installed... some time the phone reboot automatically
    - some time the text in the upper screen (menu title)present a suggestion....
    - calendar: month view is very slow when i scroll the day....the entries appear very slowly

I agree with almost every comment on the phone book system...
It is really useless in many perspectives even with respect to the S40. I mean, it should be way better than the most, cause this concept is for "business" (I assume the E71 UI is same with my E66).
The same goes with the messaging application too. You can't even see how many messages in the folders and how much space they cover (Unlike new generation S40s). It's like they never thought of it.
Additionally, you can't change the type of the phone numbers under contacts (S40 can do).
When it comes to the back lighting in darker conditions, I think it is a feature that comes with the phone.
In dark, you don't need to have the phone screen glow too much. So no need to spend energy.
You know these devices have light sensors (E71 also has one, right?)
I really hoped for a new firmware, but the fact is, E66 and E71 are kind of successors to E51. Haven't they noticed these issues with E51?
I don't know if previous E series have these stupidities...
I don't have further hopes for Nokia anymore
There are so many things I used to perform much faster on my simple (S40) 6300. So?
Business Smart Phone? So much for business...
