Screen goes blue & weird jittery colors

Every couple minutes or so after powering up, the display on my Powerbook will turn solid blue for a few seconds, then go back to normal for a minute, then will go back and forth like that for a while. Then the colors on the screen get sort of pixellated/jagged and shake back and forth really fast. At that point, it is unusable so I have to power off, then power up, but then it goes through the same thing, starting with the blue screen again. I updated all the software, and it worked fine for about 2 hours, but then started having problems again. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks mende1.
>> Boot your Mac in safe mode (press Shift key during boot) and check if it happens
I tried booting in safe mode and tried using MAC for 15-20 minutes.  It didn't happen in safe mode.
Can you think of what can be the real issue and also what could be the solution?

  • Screen goes blue and quits all applications

It doesn't seem to be specific to what I'm doing or running. But all of a sudden the screen goes blue for a second, like its going to sleep after a second it goes back to my desktop, but all applications are closed there is no error message. It has happened while typing an email in mail. Selecting a song in itunes. Scrolling down a web-page. Dragging a file into the timeline if FCP. Its happened with just one application opened and with several opened.

Have you done the usual maintenance jb?
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
    Then Repair Permissions.
Then run your Apple Hardware Test to see if it flags something.

I installed Lion last night, now every few minutes my screen goes blue! It has never done this before I upgraded to Lion.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jack
Thanks for the reply. Thankfully, it has stopped now.
My iMac is quite new and less than half full, so I don't think deleting anything would have helped. Maybe the CPU was working too hard for a while ?
Just glad that it is now stable again.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.
Thanks. Hope my other question has an answer out here.

Make sure you quit all your applications before shutting down.
    And try resetting the SMC.

Try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes repair thread and see if that fixes it.

  • IPod screen goes blue

Since being returned from service my iPod click wheel's screen goes blue when using the mains charger. Nothing else shows. I do not even know if it is charging. I think perhaps not. Does anyone know how to get rid of this blue screen or what causes it?

    Hey Buzzy Bee Jen,
I just got back from the Genius Bar. My problem turned out to be a bad AC adapter. They swapped it out for a new one. I asked my Genius if he's seen 'blue screen' problems before. He said that this was the first time he saw a bad power supply cause the problem, but he's seen it twice before. Both times the culprit was a piece of lint or aluminum gum wrapper stuck in the 'dock adapter' (the slot on the bottom where you plug the firewire, etc). He says this can happen when people carry the iPod around in their pocket.
Hopefully this helps you resolve your problem.

  • IMAC 20" intel - System freezes and screen goes blue - why??

this just started yesterday - I did not add any programs or update any software recently. I have since added Norton and scanned for viruses.
PROBLEM: my system freezes and the screen goes blue. It does not "wake" back up right away and after it goes blue a few times, it stays blue and I have to hard boot. If I leave the system off for about an hour, I'll get a few hours out of it before this happens.
DIAG: As stated above, I checked for viruses. I also ran all available diagnostics, and am fresh out of new ideas. Since I can't open my iMac without voiding the warrantee, I can't check for any possible burst or bulging capacitors. I disconnected all perperials and still have the same issue.
HYPOTHESIS: I am heavily leaning toward a hardware problem, but before I take the trip to the Apple store, I wanted to reach out to the forum to see if anyone else has had this problem?
This is an early 2006 Intel based 20" iMac that I have been running (24x7) since late August 2006. I never had an issue with my first iMac (pre-Intel).

  • IBook screen goes blue and flashes

From time to time by screen blanks out and goes blue. It then flickers and goes back to desktop, but not with my dektop pictures but a default blue desktop picture. Only started happening a few days ago. Currently set at 1024x768 60Hz (NTSC). Keeps trying to set cailbration for television amd not lcd.
    Any ideas?

I'm having an almost identical problem. I'll be using an application and in the middle of something and the whole screen suddenly goes blue for a second or two, then returns to what i was doing. it seems to be getting worse. at first it was a second or 2 now it's more like 5 or 10 seconds at a time. My ibook is only 19 days old!! I'll be calling apple later to see what they suggest, and keep you posted.
