Screen goes dark and freezes

iPod Touch 5th Generation iOS 7.0.4
The iPod will work for a few seconds and then it goes partially dark, (the text can still be read clearly.) After that the iPod freezes. I've restored it but it does the same thing.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • On iPhone 4, the screen goes dark and freezes when I start Safari

All of a sudden, today I can't access the internet via Safari on my Verizon iPhone 4. If I click on a link in an email or start Safari, the screen goes dark and freezes. What's up with this and what the fix?

    Hi
Try holding sleep/wake + power button for 10 seconds, until you see the Apple Logo.
    See how that goes.

  • Screen turns dark and freezes, when refreshing deletes written txt

Firefox should be more compatible without blaming others.
While writing this same note, or an email or text, suddenly the screen turns dark and freezes, impeding to edit or recover the work. When clicking Control Shift R , screen/server refreshes and work lost.
Kindly assist and solve this issue. I uninstall and reinstall with no avail, problem persists.

It's disturbing that you get ads just starting up the browser. Where did you download Firefox from? Unfortunately there are some unauthorized modified versions promoted in search engine results...
    Some things to check:
    # Home page -- [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
    # Extensions (more detail below)
    # Malware -- [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]
    # Program shortcut (more detail below)
    '''''Extensions'''''
Add-ons, and particularly extensions, can override your settings in Firefox's normal dialogs. Use the Add-ons page to review and disable or remove ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the add-ons page and click the link as the last step.
    '''''Program Shortcut'''''
Not sure exactly how you do this on Windows 8.1, but on earlier versions:
right-click the shortcut you use to start Firefox > Properties > Shortcut tab
Check the "Target" line and make sure there is no URL at the end. By default, the target ends with
    firefox.exe"
    with no URL after it.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Ifou don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Screen Going Dark and Then Black

Although my computer is not an Intel, I have been following the discussions here because of the flickering problem. I intend to buy the i7 when the next series comes out. I posted my problem on the regular iMac G5 forum but received a very limited response specific to the problem.
My iMacG5 is the initial model and will be 6 years old this coming October. I have not had this problem before.
One day, the computer screen went black. Took it to Apple. Either mother board or power supply. Changed power supply and computer worked but technician damaged screen and bezel. Apple changed screen and bezel front and back. Came home, working fine but notice very slight and quick flickering sometimes. Suddenly, screen went dark and then black. The F14 and F16 keys could not change it. Took it back to Apple but problem could not be repeated. At home, problem occurs. Right now, screen at brightest but then brightness cuts back significantly but screen is as usual except darker. Computer can be used but darker. After a while, screen would go black. Can still hear computer. Fans normal speed. Light at lower right still blinking but when touch space bar or mouse, light at lower right goes off and computer stops but still black screen. When I unplug cable from back and wait 15-30 minutes and restart, screen bright again but then darkens and cycle repeats itself. Screen Saver not on. Beside the bezel, only items change are the power source and the screen.
CHECKED CONSOLE AS BEST AS I COULD. ON TWO OCCASIONS FOUND FOLLOWING NOTICES: BOOT CACHE.PLAYLIST: UNKNOWN ERROR: -1. ANOTHER ONE: LOCAL HOST KERNEL [0] APPLE SM_SHUTDOWN CAUSE = -100. THESE MAY HAVE SOME SIGNIFICANCE ALTHOUGH THERE'S A LOT MORE THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
HOPE SOME OF YOU CAN HELP. Thanks.

You should visit your nearest Apple Store as soon as possible for getting it done perfectly !

  • Since installing 3.6.12, firefox crashes continuously...I have gone back to Windows Explorer because firefox does not run anymore. Upon any actioin in firefox, the screen goes white and freezes and I get an error message saying firefox has stopped working

just about any action in firefox will cause a "WHITE SCREEN" freeze up and then an error message stating that firefox has stopped working. This happens in EVERY sessioin of firefox.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions,  then move these files to the Desktop.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
(Then Trash the original of these last two, as "moving" them only copies them.)
    Then reboot once more.

  • When I power up my mac, I see the white screen and the apple icon. After a few seconds of powering up the screen goes dark. Yet I still can the mouse arrow but nothing else.

When I power up my Imac, I see the white screen and the apple icon. After a few seconds the screen goes dark. I am able to still see the mouse arrow as I move it around. But nothing else. What is the problem and how do I recover?

    Try this from another user:
    1. Shut the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds
    2. Restart the computer and press shift at the same time until you see the progress bar start moving
    3. Once you reach the point where your screen goes dark and you see the cursor, type the first letter of the username for your computer, then hit Enter, then type your password, then hit Enter.
    4. After a moment, you should see the spinning beach ball
    5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).

  • Connecting battery = MacBook goes dark and to sleep

I have a black Macbook 2.4 GHz. It was purchased refurb from the Apple store site and has recently exhibitted some strange behavior surrounding the battery. Sometimes the screen just goes dark and the MacBook goes to sleep. Usually a restart corrects the issue.
Tonight, it's doing it all the time. I came home and opened the MacBook (it had been sleeping) and within a minute the screen went dark as if the brightness was turned all the way off and then it went to sleep. I finally got it shut down and the long and short of it is that it works fine with just the power adapter plugged in, but as soon as I connect a battery the screen goes dark and the MacBook sleeps. My initial thought was bad battery but I tried another known working battery from the same model MacBook and the same thing happened. As soon as the contacts touch, dark screen and sleep.
I've reset the SMC twice, zapped the PRAM and even repaired the disk permissions just for fun.
Luckily, I'm under AppleCare but can't really get to an Apple Store (or even find the time to spend on the phone) until Monday so I thought I'd post here to get some guesses. My thought is logic board, because, well, what else could it be!
Thanks in advance for any help or even wild speculation!

Same behavior continues once battery has been removed and macbook is running off the power adapter.
