Screen goes of during watching movie

During watching movie the screen goes off (black) after x amount of time, just as when im doing nothing. This is terribly annoying when watching a movie,, what can i do about it??

this is what i do for movies--
click on the battery icon on the top right hand corner of the computer and go to "open energy saver". then create a custom battery setting so that the screen doesnt dim for x amount of hours or whatever. just use that custom setting when watching a movie.

  • Screen Goes Black During Startup (after login)

    Hello,
I have a 2005 Mac Mini PPC OS 10.4.11. This is the first problem I've had since purchasing the computer. This problem popped up out of nowhere. The screen goes black during startup just after I login into my account. I can hear the hard drive spin like it is finishing the startup process. The monitor power button blinks green.
I'm using the digital video cable. I tried switching to the VGA cable but the screen then goes black before the login screen.
The computer will startup in Safe mode.
I've tried Disk Utility (repair disk and repair permissions), Techtool Pro, Drive Genius, ColorSync Utility, Reset Pram, installed latest OS updates, and even re-installed the System twice (once because I removed all the Extension files and then the computer would not startup at all).
I've also tried removing cache files, plist files, startup files, preference files, and some or all of extension files.
The only applications I have recently installed were QuickTime Pro and a .flv movie player; both about a week before this problem started. I tried to uninstall them but could not figure out how.
What is the problem? How can this be fixed?
    Thanks.
    Richard

Howdy. I have Had the same problem as you in regards to a ViewSonic Monitor and the Mac Mini. This is my post:
    Monitor failure when switching resolutions
Using Displays with the Mac mini, Apr 1, 2008, Replies: 2
Running 10.5.2 on Mac Mini G4 1.42 Ghz with ATI Radeon 9200, 32 MB VRAM and ViewSonic VX922
When switching resolutions from 1280x1024 to 800x600 or vice versa, the monitor will cut to black and the power light on the monitor switches from solid green to flashing green. Only by combinations of powering down the mini and starting it up again with the monitor on or off will bring the monitor back to life. This problem makes it difficult to play World of Warcraft amongst other games. Any feedback in regards to this problem would be appreciated.
    Thank You!
At this point, I am unable to switch Monitor resolutions. If I do, the monitor goes black, and I have to power everything down and wait a while before I can restart.
I've resigned myself to not switching resolutions, but I'm wondering if you've had any luck.
    Thanks for your time!

  • Flash crashed during watching movies in YT, sound doesn't always work.

I have many the few problems with flash and sound in my Arch Linux.
Firstly, when I want to play a movie in YouTube, flash often gets crashed. Movies stop loading, and they stop playing at the most often in 7th second or 12th second. Additionally, the sound falters itself. When I want to do something in web browser, it stops working. I must restart it, but flash still doesn't work. I noticed, after flash's crash, I cannot work for example in kdenlive. It gets crashed too. That problem often exists during watching movies in YT.
Secondly, I don't always have sound in games. For example, I cannot hear anything in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, but e.g. in SuperTuxKart I hear everything. I don't have any idea, why sound works in some apps and doesn't work in the other apps.
I downgraded flash, because I thought, it could help, but unfortnately, it still has the problems. I use Firefox, but earlier I used Chromium and that problem was too.
Edit: I have just noticed, when after flash's crashing I want to listen to music and then I want to stop it, it falters like sound in YT movies.

Is wolfenstein a wine game? If so There are a bunch of optional dependencies for wine. You can see them if you do "pacman -Qi wine" (same for any installed program in Arch unless installed without pacman/PKGBUILD).  Some that I have installed are:
    lib32-alsa-lib
    lib32-libpulse
If the game is a 32 bit windows game running through wine you may need some of these. If that doesn't work you can run it through the pulseaudio wrapper like this: "padsp wine /path/to/game.exe" Where /path/to/game.exe is the path to your wolfenstein executable. You can also check your sound settings with a program called "winecfg" (the defaults work fine for me though). To verify that your game is using pulseaudio there is a program called "pavucontrol" that will tell you all of the programs currently using sound through pulseaudio. Hope that helps.
Edit: Also found this which may be of interest I don't know: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/et-sdl-sound/

  • Satellite L405D-11V - Freezes and screen goes black when watching video

Ok, so I have the Toshiba Satellite L405D-11V, I have had a fault, basically, the computer would freeze at any time and the screen would go black, with the fan and lights still going, this could be on start-up, or a few hours into using the laptop, so I decided to ring up Toshiba's tech support and they arranged for my laptop to be collected and sent off for repairs.
I was able to track the repairs online through the tracking service, and was able to see what they were doing to my laptop, it said that they ordered a part, it was in progress and the repairs were finished.
However, I got the laptop back today, I turn it on, everything is fine, I start using the laptop everything is fine, then I decide to watch a video on youtube, and it freezes again, so, I power off holding down the power button, hoping it was just a one off, I turn it back on, and load up the video again, it freezes and the screen goes black again, after working out that when ever I watch a video or play a game, it causes the computer to crash and freeze like before the repairs. So there is still a fault, but im not sure what to do
Its still under warranty, I purchased the laptop from Comet, but I dont really want to send the laptop off for repairs again and to find it will come back with the same fault, is it worth sending it off again, perhaps seeing if comet will replace the laptop as its still under a year of buying the laptop, or is it just gonna be worth saving all the hassle and buying a new laptop? If this fault has happened to anyone else, I could sure use some help, and if someone could shed a little light as to what might be wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi buddy,
Did you change something on configuration after you got your notebook back from repair? Did you update a driver or something else?
What operating system you are using on your Satellite L405D?
To be honest its really hard to say why it happens because the technicians test everything to check if your notebook runs properly.
In my opinion you should try updating the display driver. Maybe its causing the issue
If not I would recommend installing Windows from Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings. These settings are pretested by Toshiba and should work.
If you still have the problem you must contact the technicians again. I mean you could track the repair online and according your posting everything worked well during repair so in my opinion it shouldnt be a problem to contact the guys exactly.
Explain your problem very detailed. I think everything can be clarified then. :)

  • How can I stop screen going dark when playing movies with night sceans?

When viewing a NetFlix movie, during night sceans, the screen goes dark.

    You don't.
Usually only the free apps do this, paid versions do away with the ads.

  • How do I make my screen look better when watching movies?

I notice when I watch movies on my Macbook that there are negative parts when I'm sitting on an angle. Is there any way to solve this through calibrating it or the right lighting. This doesn't happen on my sister's older Powerbook G4 that has a matte screen.

Try not watching it on an angle and also try recalibrating it. Play around with the calibration until you find a setting that looks good for movies. Then save it. You can switch to it whenever you watch movies then.

  • Macbok pro screen goes dead during the startup process

Everything was working fine tonight until the computer went to sleep. After that I couldn't get the screen to stay on. I restart and it seems typical then the screen goes dead while the laptop continues to boot. Any ideas? The screen stays on during firewire target disk mode, ***!

It's a warranty issue. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Screen goes black during boot

    Hi guys,
I've just finished installing Arch for the first time after using Ubuntu until now.
My problem is the when grub starts the boot process the screen goes blank and I can do nothing but restart.
The only way the system boot up is when I add "nomodeset" in the kernel line of grub's entery.
But as the wiki says, while using nomodeset gnome shell only works in fallback mode.
    I've got a ATI X800 (R430) which doesn't suporrted by catalyst.
Just for the record, while i was running Ubuntu everything (including full gnome shell) worked as it should with the open source drivers (I've installed xf86-video-ati).
Any suggestions on what can I do to solve this?
Arch is really amazingly fast and I don't want to have to go back to ubuntu. pls help.

vwyodajl wrote:Are you sure you set up your ATI card properly? I have nvidia but generally when I have to use nomodeset is because it is trying to boot into a incorrect video driver. Also it happens for me on new installs untill I get the card properly setup.
    HTH
Is there a guide in the wiki for doing this? I've looke at the "ATI" part of the wiki and nothing there seems to help nor show how to config the card.
    Jigoku:
I've tried vga=773 even before using nomodeset and it didn't work.
To be more accurate it work for like 3 seconds until the boot process loads somthig like that starts with udev (I don't remember the full name).
But this is not different then when I try to load without "nomodeset".
To sum it all up, I get blank screen (no video signal) always unless I use nomodeset.

  • Screen Goes Dark During iPhone Sync

This sounds strange and I can't seem to find a logical explanation for this.  I noticed that I went I plug my iPhone via USB for iTunes to automatically synch, within seconds the screen goes dark.  What I have been doing lately is to rest the phone on top of the MacBook Pro, just left of the trackpad.  I have also noticed that if I just place the iPhone elsewhere, rather than laying directly on the MacBook Pro, the problem doesn't happen.

That's where the magnetic sensor for the lid is located.  It causes the computer to think that it is closed!  Now, an iPhone doesn't have a magnet, except in the speaker, so maybe that's what happens.  Our your case has a magnet.
I hope this answers your question.

  • Screen goes blank with slightest movement of the lid; problem related to hidden sensor

    I posted this in the display section but got no answer. Because it's hardware related, I am giving it a try here;
The problem occurs in the following 3 ways:
    - Vista: when the lid is moved back and forth a *little* bit, the screen goes blank/black; restore is possible by first closing lid, waiting a few seconds till the lid light dims; then quickly bringing the lid back in position and press any button brings it back to life
    - Windows 7: almost identical, exept no button press is needed; this could be a settingin power scheme, I didn't check because it's not so relevant
    - Linux: same but no way to bring it back to life again; reboot system is only possibility
This means the magnetic sensor in the bezel that deactivates the system when the lid is closed is still working, but I don't understand why the screen becomes black when it is slightly moved back/forth ? I have read about  some sensor hidden behind the hinge depending on the model but very little info how to solve the problem
Could someone explain what is happening and how to find the cause ?

If only I could understand what's going on that would help me A LOT. I understand this is difficult, but there must be some HP expert who knows about this issue. Understanding the problem is the first step.
What could be useful for me to know is where exactly is that sensor, how to locate it, how to test it, what is the module or part to replace it if needed etc.

  • Skype screen goes white during calls and video calls

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 8.1 and recently after the latest skype upgrade I'm getting a white screen during regular calls and during video call while I can talk and hear the other side and on the video call the other side can see me. Important to mention that I see the contact list on the left side.
What should I do in order to fix it? (tried reinstalling skype)
    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • Nokia N8 screen going OFF during call in bright su...

    Hello Friends,
My N8 screen is going black whenever I am making calls in the bright sunlight. So I cannot view the dialler at all and unable to end the calls. This problem really annoys me a lot. Anyone expereinces this problems. Please help me in this regard.
    thank you very much,
    Shijo

Ja. it has funny tendencies. The proximity sensor turns the screen off when you bring the phone close to your ear then when you remove it could take a couple of seconds for it to come back on.
I did notice it's a bit worse when in bright sunny conditions. If the key pad was locked when you received the call it can also cause make that lag a little longer

  • Screen goes dark during playback

When playing a DVD through Front Row the screen is going dark as it does when it is not touched for a while to save battery. However it does not do it all the time and does it at random intervals. Any ideas??
I have played around with energy saving settings but nothing seems to be quite hitting the nail on the head.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Try it in DVD Player (found in the Applications Folder). It may or may not do it here.
The problem may very well be the settings for power consumption.
    1. Open system prefs (Apple Menu > System Prefs)
    2. Click Energy Saver
    3. Make sure that under "settings for:" you have battery selected (you may want to do this for both battery & Power Adapter)
    4. Where it says "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:", choose 3 hours
    5. Click options
    6. Uncheck the box labeled "Reduce the brightness of the built-in display when using this power source"
This should do the trick. Again, you may want to do the same for the power adapter settings, if this is also happens using the power plug.
    Hope this is helpful,
    Cory
