Screen goes partially black

MY iPad Air screen goes partially black in a rectangular fashion. It appears to be intermittent and the portion of the screen that goes black appears to be random. The screen is non responsive when this occurs. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Screen goes partially black when using Motion or Compressor

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my RAM to 3 GB and am experiencing a problem I never had before. I assume it's related. When I have FCP, Soundtrack, and Motion open sometimes the screen will go mostly black when I play my simple animation in Motion. Parts of the screen are visible with eventually most of the screen coming back. However, sometimes about half an inch of the bottom of the screen stays black. This problem also occurred today when I used Compressor.
    The RAM I added is Crucial 2GB 200 PIN SODIMM 256X64 DDR2 PC2-5300.
I also just zapped the PRAM and the problem still exists. Any help would be great!
    Thanks much.

I still haven't solved this problem. I'm really wondering if the RAM I bought is faulty or incorrect?
Today, after yet another mostly black screen I opened "Activity Monitor". It shows for Page In / Page out 65609 / 35157. Not really sure what it means, but I assume that's too many page outs!
    Ideas???
    Thanks.

I wanted to restore my ipod touch 4G, but everytime it is restoring with the apple logo, the screen goes partially white and my itunes says "error 9"... what should i do?
    plz answer me~

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Screen goes to black when tilted back too far...anyone else had this issue?

My ibook has started this crazy new thing. The screen goes to black when tilted close to all the way back. It's not that big a deal, but I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and if it possibly will get worse. When it happens, I just close the lid, let in go into sleep mode, then open it back up touch a key and all's well, I just have to be careful not to lean the screen back too far. In the past, I've had to send it back twice for the logic board to be replaced and as much as I love Macs, I really feel this is not a well-made product. Thanks for any advice....

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
As the old joke goes about the guy who went to the doctor and, raising his arm, said, "Doc, it hurts when I do this." And the doctor said, "Well, then, don't do that!"
Yes, it is a familiar thing to happen to an iBook. The backlight cable can get pinched in the hinge, causing it to go off at certain angles.
You can read more about it here:

  • When using crop tool the screen goes all black

When I select the crop tool and drag it across the photo to select crop area, the screen goes all black so that I cannot see the area selected or modify its size.
All the boxes (size and resolution) of the tool are clear.
    Can somebody help me?
I did try resetting all tools but didn't change anything, I restarted the program, I restarted the computer and is still happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The advice that seems to work most often with this kind of failure is to update your video drivers from the web site of the maker of your video card.

  • My screen goes to black when i render and a hear a click from my g5

am posting here because problem occurs when using FCP.
    g5 problems again, i fear.
curious if anyone else has had this problem...
when i start to render, my screen goes to black and i hear a clicking sound from my g5. if i hit a key on the keyboard, the screen comes back, the render starts up again, and then the screen goes to black again...another click.
ran hardware test...it failed the logic board test...but it failed the logic board test a month ago and when i took it to apple; they said it was bad ram. i replaced the ram and it seemed to be ok until now.
so i repaired permissions using Onyx and then the machine wouldn't restart. pulled all non-apple ram.
reset pmu, finally pulled plug and waited half an hour. tried to re-boot, power light on g5 came on and then went off. wouldn't come back on again.
    pulled plug again, called apple.
while waiting for apple to answer...40 minutes...put plug back in and tried to pwr up. it finally restarted, but the same rendering issue.
apple said sounds like logic board problems and is sending someone out early next week...thank god for applecare.
so.....anyone else every have this issue?
    thanks
    carl

I've dealt with several G5 issues, never heard of this one. Cannot imagine what the logic board could have to do with this since there's nothing particularly unusual about rendering, nothing that is different from anything else the CPU is asked to do.
Please return and close the thread if o get it resolved with Apple's hlep.

  • Laptop screen goes completely black but shows that it's still on

Hello everyone, i'm in need of serious help!
I bought this laptop over 2 years ago (October of 2008 to be somewhat exact). It's a Windows Vista Home Premium, with service pack 2.
its an HP pavilion dv7 notebook pc
processor: AMD Turion (tm) X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-70  2.00 GHz
    Ram: 4GB
    system type: 64-bit operating system
im assuming the video card information are as follow:
name: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
chip type: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (0x9612)
    DAC type: Internal DAC (400MHz)
    total memory: 1914MB
    memory: 3836MB RAM
page file: 2163MB used, 5732MB available
    current display is 1440 x 900 (32 bit)(60Hz)
    directx version: directx 11
with that being said... here's my dilemma...
Each time i play the video game, "World of warcraft", my laptop's screen goes completely black but it shows as if though it is still on. I can't see the screen but it shows that it is still on by the little lights on the bottom of the screen.
I took my laptop to a family friend who knows a lot about computers to see if they can fix it for me. They told me that everything was running fine, everything is okay, the ram, memory, graphic card, everything passed the test, and it was not over heating... there was nothing wrong with my laptop. They THOUGHT it could be the motherboard, so they tried it, but in the end, it wasn't. Unfortunately the problem was not solved.
I played World of warcraft on this laptop before. When i first bought it. It ran smoothly and gave me no problem whatsoever. I'm clueless is to though why it's giving me problems NOW.
Could anyone please please pleaseeeee help me? i have given up already. I have done everything i could. Please help me! i believe i have done a total one 1 or 2 system restore to factory settings, the 2nd one was recently (probably a month ago) and i'm not sure if maybe perhaps i needed to DL something else? i have DL all the updates that microsoft offered to me when needed and when it was necessary, but this particularly problem was never fixed.
someone please help me! Thank you so much!

    erichon99,
I think i may have found MY solution but i have yet to test it out... No one helped me. No one at all. I took my PC to a family friend company and they did everything for me: ran tests to see if my laptop is up to date with everything, removed graphic card and put a better one and nothing still. They thought it was my mother board but they ran tests again and everything on my laptop past the test. My graphic card was fine, ram was perfect, memory was perfect, everything everything on my laptop was perfect. They couldn't find out what was the problem. I took it to best buy and not even them could help me. When i was about to give up, my fiance, he did some research and found this guy on youtube who does LIVE recordings and answers people's questions. My fiance asked the question and he got serveral responses. Out of 10, i would say about 2 or 3 of them mentioned, "it's the power cord" the rest said it might be virus, or a card is not working properly, etc. You can give it a shot (buying a new power cord) those who told my fiance that it could be my power cord, said to get those power cord that has a fan in them.
I think this makes sense because my screen goes black only when i'm playing a game. even when i play cityville on facebook it goes that black screen, but it doesn't go black, it does that pixelated, rainbow, warning bar, thingy (i hope you know what i mean lol) and when i touch my power cord to my laptop it is BURNING hot. What i do is, when my battery is fully charge, i disconnect and play my game, and to not lose any docs i left open, i close my games, and plug back in. I've been lazy to find another power cord lol i guess i should start now, huh? lol
i hope this help. I would say (if you've done everything like how i did) buy a power cord that matches your laptop, but with a FAN in it (i was told it's the best and you'll never have that problem of freezing or whatever)

  • GX660 screen goes completely black for a moment

Is it normal when sometimes you open a program screen goes completely black (no led backlight) for a second or two before it turns back on with "user acces control" table? Other times it doesnt go black.
edit: i found out that it do that after reboot/hibernate/sleep at first time opening program.

Try a Battery pull please, with the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery 15 seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot device. This will clear all cache like rebooting a PC. Then try again and see if your problem persists.

  • MBP Chimes but screen goes to black.

Having not used a Mac in many years, I'm not sure what I'm looking at for a problem. There are many postings with similar titles but I haven't found much in the way of details.
My son's early 2011 MBP 15" chimes, displays the gray screen with Apple logo and spinning gear, and then when it should display the desktop the screen goes black. A few seconds later the keyboard lights come on but the Apple logo on the cover goes off.  We've zapped and reset everything according to Apple and various web sites.
The OS came installed on this and I have no CDs. I did try booting it up on an Ubuntu CD. The machine did not boot fully but it did display a full color screen when Ubuntu was attempting to load. After that it dropped out to BusyBox but I was able to interact with the machine from the BB command line (e.g. navigating through the CD file structure, issues basic Unix commands).
Booting with Command-R produces little difference. Chimes, displays the gray screen and gear, and then displays black. The one small difference is that the keyboard lighting does not come on and it does not appear to go as far into it's startup sequence as it does when booting off of the regular HD (e.g. pushing the volume keys produces no sound, the eject button won't eject a CD etc.)
Booting with the Option key down displays the Mac HD, Recovery HD, and our wireless network. None of those choices produces any difference though the wireless does seem to connect up properly
I assume if the hard drive had failed completely then I would not see it on the Option boot display. I'm assuming that the 'Recovery HD' is a partition on the HD, so if the HD is running but the file systems are corrupt that might explain why they produce the same result. I'm not sure what the Command-R boot is supposed to do.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? It would seem I need to boot this up off of a CD to see if I can access the HD but I'm not a Mac guy. I do have access to a late 2011 MBP 13" but that also had the OS installed and came with no disks.

I was hoping that with the 10.10.1 update that this issue would be fixed. I may have discovered what is happening though.
I tried doing the above with the C-Span site. It worked! My MBP screen didn't go black and I could click on things there and it wouldn't lose the full-screen on the Apple TV. Good.
I then tried the RT USA feed where I first noticed this. Going full-screen on the tv made my MBP screen go black. SO, I am assuming this is a RT problem.
Am I right? (I have written them and hope to hear back.)
I also noticed that when clicking on the "computer" icon on Apple TV's menu, it tells me to turn on Home Sharing even though it is on. I indulged. I turned off home sharing in iTunes and turned it back on. Apple TV said it couldn't find my home library. OK.
I then played a movie, choosing the Apple TV on iTunes and it played!
So, Apple TV IS seeing my iTunes library so Home Sharing must be working even though Apple TV doesn't think so. Right?
I guess I'll ignore the message that says it can't find my home library and just do what I want to do. It would be nice if this was fixed though.
    Any ideas from others?
    Cheers,
    John

  • My screen goes to black when I click on FCP.  It's my fault, but why?

I'm a new boy (both to Macs and Final Cut Pro): be gentle with me. I've done something stupid but don't know what.
When I try to open FCP all that appears is a black screen. FCP is there, but blacked out. If I click in a corner of the screen (where the timeline window doesn't reach) it all reappears. But when I click in any of the FCP windows, it all goes to black again. If I press F3, all the windows are there but if I dare touch any, the screen goes black.
If you can tell me how to undo whatever I've done, I promise not to do it again.

I'm feeling really daft now. The answer lay in the Escape button: everything has now returned to normal. I should have tried that before posting, but I'd hit every other key on the keyboard looking for the answer I was worried that I'd done something disastrous. I live and learn. Thanks for your replies!
X: Cmd F12 on my keyboard increases the volume. But you inspired me to go along the F buttons until one did something! The last one solved it. Many thanks.
I'm very new to the Mac, but I'm rapidly learning to like it _a lot_.

  • Screen goes dark/ black in startup.

My computer is a 2008 Macbook.  It was working perfectly until summer 2011 when the battery died.  I brought it to Apple and they did some diagnostic tests, whereupon I was told that everything worked perfectly except for the faulty battery.  Instead of buying a new battery I decided to continue using the Macbook as a desktop computer (keeping it always plugged in) and bought an Ipad for travel and teaching.  I was told this should cause no problems, but that I should remove the battery as it could potentially swell up and cause other problems for the computer.  I removed the battery.  I then flew back to Spain (where I currently live).  Several days after my arrival the computer began to act up.  The screen began to go black after one or two minutes of use.  I could hear that the computer was still running, but was unable to see anything.  After doing a PRAM restart, the screen stopped going black but then the computer refused to start, instead staying in think mode with the apple icon runnng.  I brought it to the Mac store in Madrid and they helped me to back everything up before erasing everything on the computer.  It began working again, but once I got the computer home the same problem ocurred- the the screen goes black shortly after startup.  Again I brought it to a Mac Store in Barcelona and after hours of diagnostics they were unable to find anything wrong with the components of the computer.  Nothing.  I had no choice but to return home, where it continues to go black upon startup.  I am able to see (very faintly) the cursor and the suggestion of the background, but little else.  I have tried adjusting the color options from this faint view I have, but nothing works.  Occassionally the computer will work normally for a minute or two before going black, but eventually the screen always turns black again.  The only thing that the Mac employee mentioned was to change the user or something... but I dont know how to do that when I am unable to see anything to make changes.  Moreover, I had never made a change, so I dont understand why this is happening.  Each time I take the computer to a Mac store I must spend 5-7 hours on a bus, and stay the night in Madrid or Barcelona.  Meanwhile I am using only my Ipad for work and studies.  I really must fix this problem, but I dont know how or why!  Any suggestions?!

Try going into Recovery mode -- holding down Command and R keys on startup, and using Disk Utility there to Verify and Repair the startup disk. Also repair disk permissions.
If nothing improves, try a PRAM reset and SMC reset.

  • Everytime I start to install Windows into my bootcamp partition the screen goes completely black after installing.

    Hi All,
I'm using an iMac late 2009 ( Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, $gb 1067 MHz DDR3, ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB) with OS X 10.8. I've Boot Camped my Mac Book pro so I'm familiar with the steps to do it.
I've made a partition and downloaded the windows support data to an external hard drive. So I'm at the part where I'm installing windows (I'm installing Windows 7 Home Premium), everything goes smoothly and it installs everything but when it restarts and gets past the loading screen everything goes black and nothing happens. it doesn't get to the point where I put the serial number or set the time.
I thought it was an issue with my OS X so I removed the partition and re-installed my OS X 10.8. Then I've tried re-Boot Camping and installing windows but still no luck!
Anyone have any ideas on what I could do next? Any help is most appreciated

The screen of my computer goes black in the middle of my work. I noticed that the light on the screen was flickering during the previous days.

    Hey jupe17,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
I would suggest backing up and doing a clean reload of the BlackBerry device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320. Please test before restoring any data to the device.
If this resolves the issue do a selective restore of essential data (Address Book, Calendar, Task, Memos, BBM contacts etc.)

  • My Ipad 2 no longer displays anything. It may come on for a few seconds, but then half of the screen goes completely black, and the system becomes non responsive to all bottons. At other times all four sides of the display becomes black, about 1/4 inch.

Can anyone help me on this one? I got my IPAD 2 in June 2011. It never gave problems until a few days ago. It began to "hang", becoming non-responsive to all buttons. Then just yesterday morning, it went totally black. The display no longer displays. The Battery was charged 96%. I tried the power adapter, but had the same result. I tried the resetting, holding the two buttons for 10 seconds or more but no result. I have already restored it to the factory setting,(via my PC) and put back my apps etc. But after all this I still cannot see anything on the screen.
I know it is still working, because from time to timer I hear the message alerts, and other sounds.
    Waht is the likely solution?

    Try a Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

  • SCREEN GOES TEMPORARILY BLACK

Within the past two or three weeks, my trusty MacBook's screen has blacked out for several seconds during a session. Wiggling touchpad doesn't have any effect: the screen returns when it gets good and ready. The blackout does not appear to be related to any specific activity. Do not recall this occurring shortly after bootup (i.e., computer was still cool). Usually offline, I could be typing or simply reading a document. Laptop could be plugged in or on battery.
My refurbished MacBook was bought nearly a year ago directly from Apple; it is covered under the 3-year AppleCare protection plan. I'm outside the U.S. at present and cannot call the 800 number.
Any suggestions on what to do for my screen? Thanks.

Typically this type of problem is a hardware failure relating to a component inside the MacBook called an inverter. Most likely it will need replacing. It's good that it is under warranty.
