Screen grabs and Mac Help

Hello,
i want to take a picture of just one window on the desktop, i can't remember the shortcut for it and for some reason my Mac Help doesn't work - only the main page of it...
so, first, anyone knows the shortcut for this function of taking a picture of just a single window from the desktop? and secondly, how do i restart my Mac Help, it doesn't show anything,

Ali gave you the shortcut but in the future if you need shortcuts go to System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Keyboard Shortcuts. That will tell you what they are.
In fact, it would be a good idea to change the shortcut to something easier to remember. I have mine at command F6 for copy to clipboard, and command F7 for copy to file.

Am very new to apple... having made the switch a month ago. I use the HELP menu a lot but since yesterday the menu option for safari and also MAc help will not pen. The other menu options are fine.

Using iPod as a flash drive between PC and Mac help!

Hey guys,
I have no idea how can I make my iPod a flash drive. Well, it was fine when my school used G4 iMacs last week. But now it's all HP pcs. And I cannot transfer my files to those computers anymore. When I plug my iPod via USB to one of them computer, it says that I will need to format the disk drive (iPod) because it cannot read the file system.
I guess it is because of my iPod is always connected to Macs (including mine) so that the file format on the iPod is unreadable to PCs. So I have no idea what to do because I am scared of that PC is going to ruin my iPod hard drive and its OS. I tried plugging it to a PC at my house, same thing happened. I am too scared to try.
Do you guys have any idea?

Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.
If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

Screen saver and .mac or mobileme

I just upgraded to 10.5.4 and am trying to set up my screen saver to look at a gallery on my .mac(mobileme) account. But when I enter my username...ssssss it says that I don't have any pictures available. Suggestions? Thanks....

Facetime ringing on both iphone and mac :( HELP ME PLEASE!

I'm using facetime on a friend's computer. When someone called me on the computer, it rang on both my phone and the mac. I created an entirely different Apple ID so that it can come through the mac, but it still doesn't work. Can anyone tell me step by step how to receive calls on Facetime one at a time. Preferably the mac.

Why do you need them one at a time? It is like having old voice line extensions, just answer one of them.

Computer video screen grabs

I need to build a training demo, capturing what's seen on a computer screen while one of our guys walks the end user through some software. Can this be done through iMovie (doesn't seem to be) and, if not, can someone suggest a software package that will let me create the video screen grab and easily import it into iMovie?

Gargeband window freezers and mac restarts

when i run garageband, after sometime, screen freezes and mac restarts. Also, i have rum mac into safe mode. While in safe mode, when i run Garageband, a pop-up window appears showing " GARAGEBAND: Selected Driver not found : (-10202)". Please help to run my system smoothly.

I am using Garageband version 6.0.5, the version which was with my MAC when i purchased it.
I am not using any external Audio Interface. I am only using internal build-in Audio interface. But, i use my 2.1 speaker system with this mac connected to audio out jack.
If, there is any problem with drivers for Audio Interface, please suggest me the way to get these drivers and how to install them onto my system.

Mac Help hangs again

This happens not infrequently. When it does I routinely apply Dr.Smoke's remedy of trashing 3 library files and rebooting and Mac Help works again.
However this time it displayed the alpha index but declined to open the page corresponding to the letter I chose.
I wonder if there is a further treatment that could wake up this help file, or a test to pinpoint the cause of the dysfunction?

There is no elliptical button at the far right of the title bar. only the Ask a Question field (typing a word in it sets the spinning wheel turning endlessly)

The item you quote from above is from the section entitled "Help Viewer does not display a search field under Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier" in the FAQ. That's a new section and follows the section on "Help Viewer links do not work". You should be able to tell it's a new section as the title is larger, i.e. its a new heading. There are links to the individual sections at the start of the FAQ, but the sections run linearly throughout the FAQ.
That new section obviously does not apply to Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) since it states "Mac OS X 10.3 and Earlier." Under Tiger, Help Viewer's toolbar cannot be customized. That feature was only available in Panther (10.3) and earlier. Likewise, it does not apply to your current problem, but a different problem.
My FAQ covers Help Viewer for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar), Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). The titles of sections or the details within a section can be version-specific and are noted accordingly.

You should update to Mac OS X 10.7 using Software Update, which will download just the changes you need for the update. You do not need to download the Combo Update to perform an update.
Some people recommend always downloading and installing the Combo Update. I do not: I think that approach is a waste of time.
4. You wrote: "I am a little reluctant to update because it often creates more problems than it cures."That has not been my experience. While there are often many posts here on the Discussions about "problems caused by an update" they are usually the result of self-inflicted wounds:
• People install updates on already-corrupted systems, making a bad problem worse.
• They are running third-party software, often hacks and interface modifications relying on undocumented features of the OS, that are rendered incompatible with the update.
Granted, some updates have had bugs, but I've personally found that most post-update problems are the the result of user errors or a lack of maintenance, rather than problems with the update.
If your system is properly maintained and not "hacked-up" then you should not have any problems with Software Updates.
Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

Lens correction for hero3+ black screen grab

Has any one heard of a photoshop lens correction for a screen grab off a hero3+ black set in 1080p at medium FOV?

Any help with a Time Capsule install and Mac Mini server screen share?

Installed a Time Capsule, now I can't access my mac mini server. I see the files/folders, but cannot screen share with the mini from my macbook pro. Any help? Error below when trying to use the "screen share" button in Finder. Macbook Pro and Mac Mini are using Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
Connection Failed Error: Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly.

Try removing the TC and see if the problem disappears.

There are many discussions about failing after changes in Lion.. I haven't seen the equivalent ML yet.. the TC may not be root cause, just the initiator of the problem.

Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!

That means it can find the Hard Drive, or can't find the things needed for booting.
See if DU even sees it.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
