Screen Grabs

When working in Cs4 and Lightroom what are the commands that will enable me to save my adjustments in Lightroom or my layering in CS4. I need for a Mac and a PC. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

In LR, your edits and metadata changes, and more, are stored automatically in the LR catalog. To save out to the files themselves, use Cmd-S, Mac, or Alt-S for pc's. IIRC. The latter commands save in PS as well.

  • How to highlight text in a screen grab?

I did a screen grab from imdb (Internet Movie DataBase) off the Internet.  It's currently in .png format.
I want to highlight part of the text in the text in this picture as if I were using a yellow highlighter marker.  I've tried everything I can think of but so far no dice.
It seems that the thing to do is to choose Tools > Mark Up, but Mark Up is grayed out.
I know this is possible because a guy I work with does it all the time.  But it's too late to call him, and he's fairly irrascible anyway.  And I know I did it once a while ago.
    Can someone help?  Thanks.

I'd never used Grab before, so just did so. It's an awfully simple app, it seems - offers some capture controls the keyboard commands don't (such as timed and full window), but doesn't seem to be able to do anything other than capture an image. Its Preferences are bare-bones.
I had to open my test image in Preview to make any annotations. That was easy - save the image in Grab to the desktop and name it, then a double-click of the file opened it in Preview.
    So, we're back to Preview.
Don't understand why the annotation tools aren't available to you in Preview.
    Edit - -
Just rebooted into Snow Leopard to do some testing. No matter what I tried, new screenshot using keyboard or Grab, fiddling with settings, I could not get Preview to not allow selecting the Rectangle tool.
Only other thing I can think of - do a Get Info on the screenshot file, check the permsissions at the bottom of the Get Info window.

  • Using avi files with DVpal. Working with screen grab footage.

    Hi.
I am currently editing some short little promo's that mix DVpal footage with .avi footage. The .avi footage are screen grabs of someone navigating a website, and are designed as cutaways to illustrate a ptc.
However when they are rendered out on the timeline, the text from the website that is in the screen grab video becomes too distorted/(rasterized i think), essentially unreadable. I was planning on some degradation, but didn't realize it would destroy the image so much.
I have tried exporting/converting the .avi files to certain .mov formats but all with essentially the same problem.
Does anybody know a work around solution to help solve this problem. Or is the best way to redo the screen grabs as .movs with the relevant settings, and can anyone recommend some software for this job.

I think the problem is more based in the fact that you're working in DV. Can you work in a higher quality format?

  • IPhoto adds ugly black border around imported screen grabs

When I grab a picture of an application screen (using cmd + shift + 4 and then hitting the space bar over the application), I get a screen grab that opens fine in Preview, but when I drag/import it to iPhoto, it adds an ugly thick black border around the whole picture. Why? Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Missed the Command....... I have used that command and don't get the border except when viewing the file as an thumbnail in the Finder.
Do you have a MMe account? If so upload the screenshot file to the Pictures folder and use the following code to add it to a post:
You'll get this: Click to View Photo. It's a screenshot of the screenshot and it's presentation in Safari.
So, I can see immediately from the photo in the link above that you have not used the key combi I am talking about - was that intentional?
Anyway, here's the link, and you can quite clearly see the drop shadow.

  • Problems with Window Screen Grabs?

    Hey,
Any idea what the problem could be? When I screen grab a fullscreen window by typing "Command > Shift > 4 > Space" the resulting screenshot has the right hand edge cut off. Seems to happen in all apps. It only happens when an app window is full screen or maximized (or a little smaller - about 20px on each edge). Using Grab or Preview to capture works but those apps don't capture the alpha-blended window shadow.

    http://www.imgftw.net/img/199621762.png

I'm able to reproduce the issue as well with images at full, or near full, screen.
My guess is that OS X will only take screenshots as large as the screen resolution, and when capturing the window shadow it is adding ~30 px to the outside of the image, thus pushing it off the edge.

  • Is there a way to make high res screen grabs

i often use the shift apple 4 key board shortcut to make selected screen grabs, although I was wondering is there a way to make screen grabs a higher resolution than the standard 72dpi?

You can't increase the resolution of an image except in printing. If you print at a smaller size the you'll be squeezing more pixels in a smaller area thus increasing the dpi resolution of the print. But you can increase the resolution of the image file generated by the screenshot. Well, you can with Photoshop by resampling but it's never as good as the original. Screenshots are 72 dpi (or whatever the screen is - some at 92 or so) with the pixel dimensions as displayed on the screen.

  • Possible to do a screen grab without "waking up" the CPU?

Electric Sheep creates the coolest images ever...but it's like grabbing a soap bubble...touching any key wipes it out.  Is there a way to do a screen grab without waking up the CPU?

  • Funky lines on screen that don't appear with a screen grab

I have been getting a weird grid of vertical lines showing up, in the exact same place on my iMac 24". The lines go from the top, all the way to the bottom. I can move windows over the lines and the lines stay put, showing up over whatever is in that part of the screen. It really gets weird when I take a screen capture using the "Grab" app built into OSX and nothing shows up on the screen grab. It is perfect in the resulting file.
It's not a reflection. Anyone else face a similar problem? It is not there all the time but is about 90% of the time. Thank you in advance!

Screengrabs normally won't capture display anomalies. You need a camera. Contact AppleCare's Express Lane.

  • Lv 2009 screen grabs nxt 2 light vi

    Hi all,
Could someone with LV 2009 be able to screen grab the vi code panel for the NXT rgb light, I'm interested to see how the vi is constructed.
    cheers
    Nick

There may be differences between the toolkit in the book and the 2009 toolkit. I have added the html printout of the one you have request...but why are you needing to see a screenshot? Are you needing to recode this functionality? The toolkit linked above also works for LabVIEW 8.5.

  • Screen grab no longer works?

This may be the most basic question, but I'm stumped!
I don't seem to be able to save a screen shot instantly since the update? (CMD + CTRL + SHIFT + 3)
This happens on both my MacBook Air and iMac.
    Am I missing something?
    Please help!

I also find Screen Grab does not work any more. It takes the picture but the pictuire is blank .
⌘⇧3 says 'your screen shot cannot be saved'
    Why?

your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance

what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • I need to do a window screen grab, of the contents of a window with nothing else appearing-

I wish to do a window screen grab, but without any Shadow and  without any window Chrome ( without the header or footer of any OSX window )
    - only the contents of the window should appear in the screen grab.
What is the terminal command to so this?
I know about this for getting rid / enabling shadows in a screen grab -
defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool false
    followed by this
    killall SystemUIServer
…but there is also a command to get rid of window chrome from a screen grab
when doing command - shift - 4 and then pressing space and then clicking on a window.
This picture is what I don't want - no scoll bars no header. I just want the inner window - nothing else.
Thanks in advance. I have searched high and low - my laptop does it ok - I just cannot find the command any more.
    Steve

    rmgman,
This requires no more complexity than the usual Apple-Shift-4, then press space, then move your mouse to highlight a window and click to grab.
( after you have set up the disable chrome option in terminal - similar to disable shadow )
( You only need to do this once )
defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool TRUE
    and
    killall SystemUIServer
Thank you for your reply and time all the same.
    Steve

  • Automated Screen Grabs in Premiere and Media Encoder

I need to make screen grabs from a premiere pro movie that I am editing.  I was able to set up a preset in media encoder that will give me the format of images that I need.  What I can't figure out how to do is how to get media encoder to give me a certain amount of images per second.  The only thing that I can get it to do is make an image for every frame of the movie.  Final cut would let you program the auto scene grab function to (for instance) give you one image for every 2 seconds of the entire movie.  Any thoughts????

I'm having similar problems. I can't export anything now...either from Premiere or from Media Encoder. My sequence is ProRes HQ, I am exporting using sequence settings.
It gets about 75% of the way through and bails with this error message:
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
That's really helpful. Addtionally, when I tried to export out of Media Encoder, I was greeted by an extremely loud bleating goat noise when it failed. Nice. I had a room full of clients. Thanks Adobe.
I'm seriously doubting the claim of "Pro" at this point.
This was not beta tested with a ****.
