Screen has become dim

My much loved iBook G4 is fading - literally. Works well but the display is loosing brightness and really is on the verge of not being fun to use. Surprisingly I didn't find this question searching the forum. Any ideas - I expect to take it to an Apple store, just curious if someone has a fix or had the problem.

If the panel is fading to dim and won't sustain a brightness
level after trying the suggested items, you may consider
inquiring of a suitable product specialist in your region as
to the cost of having the suspect parts replaced in the Book.
The panel or supporting circuitry can wear out, especially if,
as noted, the brightness is left on a high setting; this can be
one of the ways an LCD panel may be shorter lived. In my
LCD Macs the brightness is set at about 1/4 or less, up from
the lowest. When working with a text screen, background in
white, there is no need to burn your retinas.
If the computer does indicate the need for some kind of a
service to correct the fading issue, you may also note the
age of the computer would also suggest it may be time to
have the original hard disk drive replaced; and other wear
items as they are getting on in years. Batteries, hard drives,
sometimes power adapters, and so on.
A suggested service provider to inquire into the matter of
internal repair and replacement in your region, that I have
found good reports on and had good service with, is in
South Carolina; they have a web page: wegenermedia.com.
And they could work with you on restoring the computer; &
their site also lists other models, already reconditioned.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Part of screen has become unresponsive

Suddenly part of my Iphone 4 screen has become unresponsive. In vertical screen mode, it's the bottom R.hand corner and selected other spots near the bottom of the screen, e.g. the back button, z,c,and m keys. It seems to be the same area of the screen when turned into horizontal mode, so that there it's e.g. the send button in mail. In the phone, pressing the back symbol brings up the # sign, just above it - so if I make a mistake hitting the phone keys, I can't undo it without powering down then re-powering up.
There are no scratches on the glass, and I have tried re-setting the phone. I have the latest Itunes and ios. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • HT201412 I am reading an e-book and the screen has become blurred to the point that you cannot even see the letter. I checked the e-book in another computer and can be seen without problems. What's worst, when this happens all the web sites have the same

I am reading an e-book and the screen has become blurred to the point I cannot see the letters. Other pages are patched grey. I checked the ebook in another computer and it shows no problem. Also, when this happens, other web sites get blurred or patched. Do you know what can it be?

You can try giving it a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. See if that helps.
But if it doens't or if hte issue repeats you may want to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out.

  • My iphone 4 has become extremely sensitive i cant talk on the phone without putting calls on hold, mute or hanging up!! when i'm in a call it's like the screen has become super sensitive to touch! I tried putting a screen protecter but didnt work pls help

My iphone 4 has become extremely sensitive i cant talk on the phone without putting calls on hold, mute or hanging up!! when i'm in a call it's like the screen has become super sensitive to touch! I tried putting on a screen protecter but this didnt work please help?

While on a call, the iPhone display should go black when lifted to your ear. Is this not happening or only happening intermittently?
Have you tried making calls without your silicone case on? Does this make any difference?
You could try updating or restoring the software to try to rule that out as a cause. If the issue remains after restoring then the issue is probably hardware related and may need to be serviced.

  • The display on my screen has become too big.  I've tried adjusting the screen size and the zoom isn't set.  Can anyone help?

    I have an iMAC 7.1 running OS X  10.6.8.
The display has become too big for the screen.  I've looked at the zoom and it is turned off.  I've tried adjusting the pixel setting (currently 1920 * 1200) to no effect.
The bar at the top of the screen is elongated, and I can't see the time in the top right hand corner.
This is affecting everything I lookmat, the dock in the bottom doesn't show until I bring the mouse down (hide dock is off).
I have no idea what caused this and I can't fix it.
Does anyone have idea what the problem is and how to fix it?
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

No wheel, it's a magic mouse.
    Tried safe start.  No difference.
The dock and the icons are off the bottom of the screen.
I I have finder open and move the cursor to the right to show the time, I lose finder / file /edit from the overhead banner.
Still no closer to solving it.

  • The screen has become very dark

first time poster looking for some help. today the computer went to sleep, and when i woke it up the screen had become very dark, barely visible. adjusting the brightness did not work, neither did restarting the computer. after reading a number of these posts i elected to reset the pmu. i suspect that it worked because a window opened stating that the date was now prior to sometime in 2001, but the screen remains dark. does anyone have any other suggestions to fix this problem? thank you in advance.

Try System Preferences>Universal Access and then choose Seeing. Adjust the Enhance Contrast Slider, try putting it near Normal.
    Hope this helps.

  • My ipad mini that i bought year ago , the screen has become blurred and and dies off

MY IPAD MINI - WHICH I HAVE JUST  BOUGHT A YEAR AGO, THE SCRREEN HAS DIED OFF IN JUST 13 MONTHS, NOW WHEN I ON IT ONE SIDE OF THE SCREEN IS SHOWING ALL BLURRY LINES AND THE OTHER SHOWS ICON WITH VERY BLURRY IMAGE AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES ALL BECOMES BLACK , MEAN THE SCREEN BECOMES DEAD IN JUST 5-7 MINUTES. HOW COME LIKE THIS, IT JUST 13 MONTHS OLD PRODUCT.

you need to make sure itunes match is disabled in the two locations on your ipad. first is in settings>itunes & app store. the other is in settings>music. hope that works for you.

  • The screen has suddenly dimmed, how do i get it bright again?

the screen my iphone 3gs has suddenly gone dim, how do i get it bright again?

If you can see anything on the screen , go to Settings > Brightness and turn it up.  If that doesn't work, press and hold both the Home and Power buttons until the phone restarts.

  • MBP screen has become darker - anybody else experience this?

My MBP 17" is about 15 months old.
I had so far been using it comfortably with screen brightness level set at 7 out of 16 bars (just 1 bar below mid level.)
Suddenly, since the past few days, brightness level of 7 bars seems slightly dark for me. Now I have to set the brightness level at 8 or 9 bars to feel comfortable.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of decline in screen brightness? Is it even technically possible? A hardware deterioration somewhere? (I wish I had a light meter.)
I almost always use the MBP plugged into the wall. The option to automatically adjust brightness according to ambient light is disabled. The option to slightly dim when using battery is disabled.
I clean the screen very carefully and scrupulously (once every 2 months?) using isopropyl alcohol. The screen is the glossy glass version.

When you say that it detects your movement as zoom, do you mean as you move your fingers it is increasing or decreasing the zoom? If that is the case, then zoom is turned on in Accessibility. If you are able to enter Settings, go to General>Accessibility>Zoom and turn that off.

  • My iMac Screen has become completely pixilated and flashing

Went to use my computer this morning and after about 5 minutes the screen became completely pixilated.  Shut the computer down and tried to restart and got this.
Called apple care but my protection plan has expired, representative was very nice and after listening to me describe the problem he sent me a link to reset the PRAM.  I followed the instructions and now I get this:
Computer continues to go to a grey box that says I must restart.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for what this may be??  PLEASE HELP!!

Allan, the information is so confusing....
Indeed! That's why I editted out that part after having second thoughts and seeing your follow-up. The MacTracker database is pretty good about details but does not go into which iMacs have separate video hardware. From personal iMac exerience within the family, we jumped from a G3/400 to my mid-2010 quad-cor i7 27-inch without managing to own any of the intervening models!
My biggest concern for the OP is parts. Althoguh that model still shows as "supported," there have been times when Apple didn't have parts that old.

  • All info on screen has become tiny, how do I get it back to normal size?

I was looking at a page and when I went to scroll down all the information, writing and pictures, became so small I can barely read them. Like it has been zoomed out. How do I fix this as I can't see anything in the menu options.
    Thank you.

Use Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom and turn this Off.

  • Ios7 caused screen to become fuzzy or jumpy

I've had my iPhone 5 just over a year now taken good care of it and have never let it fall but since I updated to iOS 7, the bottom half of the screen has become fuzzy and jumpy as if it's double vision ?. I've reset the phone but that hasn't changed and I've updated to the latest iOS but it's still the same . My warranty is up but dye to work I couldn't send it off to be repaired as my carrier would not supply me with a replacement while my phone was away ! Any ideas ? Much appreciated

I saw your post, and had found it incredulous that you have a 1920x1080 display.  A bit of research and I found I was wrong.
So, it appears you are driving the panel at its native resolution.  Unfortunately, trying to determine what you mean by "Fuzzy" is probably going to be like trying to nail Jello to a tree.  But, let's give it a shot.  Is it fuzzy before you start X?  Are lines and shapes fuzzy? Or is it just text that is fuzzy?
If it is just fonts, it could be a problem with hinting.  Hinting is where the edges of fonts are deliberately fuzzed and feathered to get the kerning correct when the physical pixels of the display don't quite line up.  This works well, unless the thing doing the hinting does not understand the geometry of the display.  In a color LCD, each pixel is actually made up of smaller sub pixels, generally three -- A red, a green, and a blue.  Green is usually in the middle.  Some displays have Two greens per pixel, arranged RGBG.  Some displays even have yellow subpixels.  Sometimes the subpixels are arranged left to right, sometimes they are arranged top to bottom.  Long story short, if you have hinting enabled, but the geometry is configured incorrectly, bad things happen.   Take a look at this wiki article

  • The display has become oversize

Hi The desktop and active programme display on my screen has become oversize. I swear I have changed no settings and although I can ZOOM the active programme, it then becomes undersize. I cannot Zoom the desktop as it is greyed out.

    Hi all
This is really weird. I carried out all suggested solutions withi absolutely no change even though I tried several times
I had to go out so I left the MBA for a couple of hours and when I returned all was back to normal.
