Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

Try restarting the iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

Thank you so very much! My husband is in Afghanistan and calls at different times. If I am on a call and can't answer him it could be days before I hear from him again. I never thought to just restart my phone! Duh...this is my first smartphone so I am learning. All day people were calling while I was on the phone but I couldn't answer. Thank GOD none of the calls were my husband because it would break my heart if I missed his call. Thank you again and GOD bless you! Ashley Combahee

  • My screen is blacked out, it will pop back in for a few then fade back out

my screen is blacked out, it will pop back in for a few then fade back out; does this happen to anyone else?

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Screen is blacked out but calls and such still coming through...

My screen is blacked out but I still hear texts, calls, alarms, etc coming through.  When I plug it in to my computer for a reset it doesn't identify the phone and there are no "portable devices" settings under "manage devices".  HELP please

If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod (you did not say the type of restore your performed) and are still having the problem that indicates a hardware problem. An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order..

  • My iPhone 5 screen has blacked out.

    Hi there,
My iPhone 5 screen has just randomly blacked out on me.
I sent a text message to someone then lay my phone down on the sofa and when I picked it up again moments later the screen did not work and it is completely unresponsive. When I ring my phone it rings but I cannot hear my ringtone. Plugging my phone into charge does nothing and I have also tried pressing the lock and home button at the same time for 10 seconds which also does not work.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Also forgot to mention that when I plug it into my MacBook it's also unresponsive with my iTunes

  • 20" imac dual 1.83 the right 1/" of the screen is blacked out

    I have a 20" imac.
The right 1/4 of the swcreen is black. It measures about 2 inches all the way down the screen virtically. A;so about an inch to the left of that ther is a vertical line all the way down. The other portion of the screen looks fine.
I can drag icons from the black portion of the screen to the good portion.
    Any ideas?

Sometimes After straightening and cropping 1/2 or 3/4 of the displayed image (from a Nikon RAW image) is blacked out! I am using version 2.1 of aperture. Apparently the file is fine and is straightened and cropped (I can see the full picture cropped and straightened in the browser), but the display isn't working when I double-click to open that picture. Frustrating. Any ideas/fixes? I have 2GB of RAM so memory shouldn't be a problem.

I know that you know this but straitening and cropping are supposed to black out the parts of your image that are cut off by the very nature of those operations. Assuming you are not really asking "hey why do the straiten and crop tools work like they are supposed to", some screen shots of what you are talking about would help get your question answered properly.

  • Since loading Firefox 4, screen keeps blacking out entirely or in sections. Scrolling will get it back or cause it to black out. Very unhappy. How can this be fixed?

Screen blacks out randomly and sometime periodically every few seconds.

  • IPod Screen Randomly Blacks Out, Pauses/Resumes Music

    The short of it:
My iPod (80 GB, 5th generation) randomly pauses and resumes playing music; screen also randomly goes completely black (not dimmed, but black) though iPod still appears fully operational (can still hear the digital "clicking/turning" sound of the wheel if I scroll).
    The details:
A few weeks ago I did something I very frequently do - plugged in my iPod to my PC, synced it up via iTunes, and ejected it from iTunes. Only thing the least bit different was that this was the first time for me to hook my iPod up to iTunes since adding an iPhone to my collection and having synced that iPhone up via iTunes. Not sure that would matter, but just some additional info.
I then proceeded on a several week long vacation. I pulled out my iPod, hooked it up via the AUX jack in my car to the car's audio system, and immediately noticed problems. Songs would just randomly pause and then resume play. I confirmed this wasn't an issue with the earphone jack (since I know the iPod was designed to pause music when the earphones come unplugged). I looked at the device itself and began noticing that the screen was randomly blacking out though the iPod was clearly still "working" - this was happening whether I was invoking the wheel on the iPod or just holding the device.
Since I was on vacation, with hope of easily getting this resolved, I stopped by an Apple store. A tech there did a Restore of the device via iTunes through their Mac setups, and that made no difference. The Apple tech said my hard drive had gone bad, though I'm not sure I completely believe that. (I've heard stories before of people being given that diagnosis when really that wasn't the case.) I'm willing to replace the hard drive myself, but I don't want to go through all that just to find out that's not really the problem.
I got home, hooked the iPod back up to my PC via iTunes. iTunes immediately recognized that the iPod was previous formatted by a Mac and so proceeded with doing a format/restore for the PC. Still, problems persist with iPod.
I've run the automatic diagnostics on it (M25 Diagnostic 0.7) and it completed with no errors, green screen.
I didn't drop it, damage it, nothing. It's in practically new condition. Apple tech said that something people with the iPods that operate on hard drive storage (as opposed to memory storage) more frequently experience are problems with the hard drive because they wear the iPod when they exercise, and those hard drives don't take the rigorous running movement well at all. Not the case with me. Most "exercise" my iPod's gotten is a leisurely walk. Its usage (in order of frequency): flat beside me as I listen to music; hooked up via the AUX jack to my car's audio system as it sits in a cup holder; hooked into an external speaker via USB out.
Any help you all can offer to confirm the problem or resolve it would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to fix it on my own (assuming repairs are not cost prohibitive), but just want to be sure I'm not wasting money buying the wrong parts or trying to fix something that simply can't be fixed.
    Thanks gurus!!!

    Someone? Anyone? Help, please...

  • Docking Station Screen keeps blacking out

So up until now, I've had no problem with the screen showing Time/charging status/Temperature when I dock the phone.  But yesterday the screen blacked out (okay, dark grayed out) and I don't know how to keep it from doing that...any hints?  Thanks

Okay...never mind.  New to this forum, and didn't bother to check the "solutions" list.  Found my answer there (brightness icon--that I couldn't see cause the screen was VERY gray).  Hope everyones questions are as easy to answer as mine was!!

Help, love fullscreen mode but it blacks out my linked Macbook pro too. How do I stop this?
    Hope someone can help.

When you're in full screen - use the same shortcuts when in normal mode to control the Secondary Viewer, ie, Option + M - mirror, Option + A - alternate - Option + S - Span, Option + B - Blank (probably what its set to currently), or Option + X - Desktop
