Screen is dead, and restoring isn't fixing it

A few days after updating my 1st gen iPod touch to 3.1.3, I was suddenly given a white screen. This was followed by a black screen after reseting it. After restoring my iPod, the screen will not turn on at all but the iPod will behave as if it is in fact on. It is still recognized by my computer, though it takes much longer than it should. I've "successfully" restored it several times just to continue seeing this dead screen.
Please, if you have any ideas on fixing this I will be immensely grateful since I have no means of purchasing a new one till the summer

How to permanently fix a 'White Screen" after resetting and restoring? 2nd generation ipod

There are two different resets. The reset you did involved holding the sleep/wake & home button.
The other reset will do exactly what it says. That reset is located in Settings - General - Reset.

This sounds like you may have enabled the Zoom feature.  Here are the steps on how to disable this feature.

  • IPod 4th Gen has white screen after replacement, and restore

Okay. Here's the problem. A while ago, I dropped my iPod, and it's screen cracked. I've been living with it ever since perfectly, but just with a cracked screen. Now, I ordered a new screen, and I begin to replace it. I knew how, and like an easy job, I did it pretty quick compared to others. After both ribbon cables where in, I pressed the lock button, and my iPod had a white screen. I was a little worried about that, so, I tried to reattach the screen. Now it was just black, after even using the home and lock button restart method. Eventually I got it back up and to the white screen by draining the battery and recharging, and there I was again, stuck. I looked at some forums on the internet to try to see if anyone had my problem. After clicking on the first link, it turns out, alot of people had this problem as well as me. The solution they said was pressing the home button and lock button for about 10 or so seconds, and then it goes to the apple screen and is all better again. I tried it, and my home button broke. Great. So, now I had to use the little button that the home button was pressing down to try the solution. Tried it, and, nothing. Still the blank, plain, white screen. Looked some more and saw that pressing the home and lock buttons along with the volume up button worked for some people too. Tried it, worked just as good as the previous one. Nothing. I even tried some person's idea of doing home, then volume up, then lock, in different timed stages. Nothing. I also saw people begging for them not to restore their iPods and begging for a solution. I was fine with a restore, I just had games that I played on my iPhone as well. So, I went with it, and restored it, without any backups, just going to factory mode. Afterwards I heard my iPod make the iOS "plugged in" sound, and anxiously tried the lock button. Still had the white screen. STILL. Now, I'm here, begging for a solution like others, with an iPod that won't function properly. Can someone please help me?

No nothing like that happened, I'm sure, but I actually spent the day looking for a fix. Luckily, I had the idea of taping the spring down because I though the screen didn't touch it. Turns out I was right, but however, I found out that the screen I ordered was broken in a way, because it still had the white screen after the taping. Just to make sure, I tried the other screen to clarify if the taping worked or not. I did the home and lock button restart, and up popped the apple logo. So, that means that the screen I got from the seller was either a rip-off, or was just broken somehow in process of making, or delivering in some matter. Unfortunately, I think I can't ship it back unless for alot of money because the person I got it from comes from China. I live in the USA. So that's gonna be a matter to work with myself. Thank you for trying to help.

  • HT201401 After io6 upgrlade on my iPhone 4S battery life is about 1/2 what it was. I turned wifi and Bluetooth  off and screen brightness down low. After about 4 hours battery is dead. Also my screen enlarges randomly and only way to fix hold lock back ke

After updating to iOS six my iPhone battery life is about a third of what used to be. my screen enlarges the font and I can't make it go back to a smaller font without totally doing a hard reset

my friend gave me his old ipod nano 4th gen because he said it was messed up. immediately after you press the play button the apple logo appears and never changes. it constantly stays on the screen. ive restored the ipod to a previous firmware, i've reset the device, ive switched usb ports, ive even went to the extent of resetting my computer because i like this ipod so much. please, if there is any way that you can help me witha solution, that would be greatly appreciated.

Your friend already warned you it was messed up.  You tried your best to fix and nothing worked.  If you cannot find a solution in the user manual, visit iFixit and YouTube for DIY repairs or take your iPod Nano to a repair shop.

  • Stuck at the "apple screen" after update and restore

I updated my iPhone 4 today to the iOS 7 version, everything went ok, after that i did the "Restore from Backup" option through iTunes, and all went fine.
After it finished the restore the iPhone made a restart, then turned on the apple screen, and after a few seconds apeard a line beneth the apple, it started to fill it in, and when it got to ~70-80% it stucked, for ~30 min already.....
I'v tried to restart the device, and its making the same thing, tried to connect to iTunes and make restore again, and it fails because the iPone is "Busy" with god knows what.....
    Any solution for this problem????
thx in advance for any kind of help!

You can get no support on this forum.  Since you have iOS 7, you're either a developer (in which case, per your NDA you must post in the Developer Forums) or a thief.

  • Frozen 30 gb failed reset and restore, any other fix?  Or send for service?

My wife's 30 gb iPod is frozen. Video displays menu, but touchwheel does nothing.
Plug in to computer, iTunes launches, says that two different files could not be transferred: one "IMGP0114" that "cannot be found" and one "P1010185" that "cannot play on this device". It also says "+7 total problems".
Tried plugging in, pressing "Menu" and "Select", Apple icon appears dim, then brightens, then returns to menu, still frozen.
Tried "Play/Pause" and "Menu", nothing happens.
Tried using the "restore" button in iTunes, it ran for awhile then said "Unable to restore due to unknown error" and a number, I think 1418. I tried running it again to get the number before posting here, "restore" ran for an hour and never stopped so I used Task Manager to stop iTunes.
In iTunes, under "Help" I ran diagnostics, saved it, and printed it, it is 18 pages, pretty much Greek to me.
Tried unplugging and replugging to computer, this time it went through a reset, the screen had been frozen on the main menu, now it is frozen on the menu where you choose a language.
I tried searching this forum and didn't come up with any other ideas, this is the last ditch before sending it off for repair. It is out of warranty, will cost $150 to repair, you can buy a brand new one on eBay for approximately $200 or one from Apple for $250. The request-service page does not say how long it will take.
I am logged on to my wife's account, she is a technophobe so I'm trying to help her with this.
To sum up: Anything else to try? Would anything in the diagnostic report be of use? If we send it for repair, what is the typical turnaround time?
    Thanks
    Ross

Thanks, I tried all the suggestions at that link but none of them worked. It could be the problem is a mechanical one with the touch wheel, except that it responds to the reboot maneuver of pressing "menu" & "select" simultaneously. Once rebooted, the "select" no longer functions.
At this point we are sending it off for diagnosis and possible repair.
    Thanks again

  • ITunes update and restore isn't working

I updated my ipod and after that it asked me to connect to itunes. So i did and it said it needed to be restored so i clicked on that. But then it said there was an error and i tried over and over but it still never worked i even read the http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275?veiwlocale=en_US  page and tried those a bunch of times but it still never worked. Can anybody help me?

    So you tried this:
    Error 1611
This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, this error may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • White screen after update and restore?

Is this a hardware issue or anything else I can try to do with the Ipod Touch gen 4?  I'm running software 4.3.5.

    - First try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Connect to computer and it ITunes sees the iPod restore the iPod
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPOd.  For recovery mode see:

There's nothing to recall in keeping with across the board model recall standards.
You should contact your seller and seek a warranty exchange.

  • My Ipod Classic (160G) no longer synchs completely with iTunes (93G).  Have reset and restored to no avail.  AM about to try roll back to a previous version of iTunes, which has been on auto update.

My iPod Classic (160G) used to sync flawlessly with iTunes (93G).
Recently, there seem to be fewer folders syncing.  In particular, it is not syncing more recent adds.  It also occassionally refuses to sync at least one mp3 downloaded from  Amazon.com, giving an unable to sync message with an error code or 50.
I'm running iTunes version 10.7, and the software (2.04) on myiPod is current.
I only use the iPod for music.  I have only one playlist.
Reset and restore did not fix the problem; I'm considering rolling back to a previous version of iTunes.  Are there any other  ideas to consider?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

iTunes and its sync process with your iPod have been know to choke once the amount of data that needs to be transferred, replaced, or updated, reaches a certain size limit in GBs.

  • Nokia X3 - screen's dead, I need to extract the co...

Recently, my X3's screen doesn't work any more, nor do the call buttons. I cant turn it off or on and the only thing that makes me guess that it's still working is that the keyboard lights up any time I slide it open. When I link it to nokia pcsuite the program at first starts working normally, but when I try to access the contacts list, it gives me this error message: "unable to modify USB mode, please modify USB mode from the phone", action that I cannot perform since the screen is dead and the buttons don't work. If they worked, I'd have tried modifying the USB mode blindly (it should be easy, since I just have to press the same button once or twice), but unfortunately I can't.
Accessing the phone from my PC is anyway possible, without using pcsuite: I can access its memory (which is E in my computer) and see these folders: "images", "others", "private", "resource", "Sounds", "sys", "System" and "videos", plus a single file named card_content.cid. Starting from here, can anybody suggest me a way to extract the contacts and save them on the PC? I don't need to put them inside another phone, I just need to have them in a readable format, with name and phone number.
    Thanks in advance!

Not sure what you mean by 'Call Buttons'.. but atleast the 'Navigation' button needs to be working to set the proper USB mode. As soon as you connect the phone press the Centre of the Navigation button as if you are selecting something from the Menu and check whether it gets connected in the proper (PC Suite) mode ...Else, it seems a bit difficult to extract the Contacts.
..and this is for Future action (for any new phone that you buy)
1.Back-up your data at regular interval. Especially after you add any important data.
    2. Set the USB connection mode to PC Suite as default. (for Nokia X3-00 its thru' Menu-->Settings-->Connectivity-->USB Data Cable-->PC Suite). With this, even if the display is not working but the phone is, then it will get connected to PC where you can Back-up / Sync your data thru' Nokia suite..
