Screen is frequently unresponsive?

Hi, my 32gb 2nd generation iPod touch's screen has been acting up.  It will just not register my fingers tapping it or trying to slide something and after prolonged periods of time this becomes frustrating.  The rest of the functionality has been good, as far as Ive noticed.

Sounds like your screen digitizer might be going bad.

  • My iPhone 5s Screen  is Completely Unresponsive

I've read other issues with this, but none of them seem to sound quite like mine. I'm desperate for help right now!!!!
My phone is still relatively new - got it in December of 2013. I have never dropped it or "injured" it in any way, no water damage, nothing like that. It's in pristine condition.
Out of the blue a couple of days ago, the fingerprint scanner and screen just quit being responsive. Nothing happened to cause this. I picked up my phone to unlock it with the fingerprint ID like I usually would, and it didn't work. I have my phone password protected, so it brought up the keypad for me to enter my passcode. But the screen didn't work, so I couldn't enter it. The power slider doesn't work, the unlock slider doesn't work, NOTHING on the screen works, for any reason. The screen is 100% unresponsive.
My first instinct was to do a reset, so I held down the power and home buttons and reset it. The reset worked, but didn't fix the problem with the screen. I've tried the reset about 50 times now over the last few days in hopes that it will work at some point. But it does nothing.
Then I tested out Siri. Siri is completely 100% functional and responsive. So I know the phone system is working. I read that if I try to get Siri to launch an app, it will clear the "block" that might be on the phone. But of course she keeps telling me, "You'll need to unlock your iPhone first." So that doesn't work at all.
I also read that if I click the home button 3 times, that's supposed to fix it somehow. Nope.
I've also tried plugging it into different outlets, different computers, etc. Just in case that had something to do with it. That doesn't fix it either.
The screen just WILL NOT WORK. It makes no sense.
I went to the Apple store and they told me that they would have to do a restore, but I haven't backed up my phone since December 2013. I have SO much data that I can't afford to lose by doing a restore right away. And I have no way of backing up the phone right now because iTunes won't do it unless I unlock my phone, which of course I have NO way of doing. It's RIDICULOUS that I can't enter my password into the computer from iTunes or something. But noooo, it has to be on the phone, except the screen DOESN'T WORK, so I can't enter my password.
I'm desperate! I have tons of work texts, journals, notes, photos, etc. I realize now how stupid it was for me not to be backing up my phone frequently. I know, I know. Trust me, I'll never make that mistake again. And I don't use iCloud either. Please don't tell me I'm SOL.
Does anyone have ANY clue how I can get around the screen password so that I can still at least back my phone up before a system restore? Seriously, I CANNOT afford to lose 5-6 months' worth of data from my phone!!!! I HAVE to back my phone up, there MUST be something I can do???!!

I understand your logic; however, if it's hooked up to a recognized computer, I feel that I should be able to overcome this problem by entering my password into the computer. And if I go into an Apple store, I feel that they should be able to verify that the iPhone belongs to me and then get around the password requirement for me. It's ridiculous to think that *nothing* can be done in this situation.

  • I need to get into my phone, but the screen is completely unresponsive.

I have the iPhone 4 and a few months ago, I dropped my phone and the screen shattered. Now the screen is completely unresponsive and I would like to access my contacts, texts, calls, etc.. Is there anyway I could get into all of that through iTunes or at least my computer?
It's been this way for about a week and the texts and calls are flooding in and I can't even let these people know my phone doesn't work. Which *****.
*I don't have the money to replace/fix my phone at the moment, so I need to find an alternative.
    Thanks.
    -TMB

You cannot access the phone via the computer. You could try and backup the phone and try and access the backup via a 3rd party software, however most of them cost. Touchcopy is a good one to see the texts, but I'm not sure it will allow you to look at the call lists.
I suggest you find a dumbphone so you can at least handle texts and call since you cannot afford to fix the device right now.

  • Mac OS X Lion Server screen freezes frequently

I have recently purchased the Mac Mini Server with 8GB RAM Upgrade and have been experiencing screen freezes frequently. The Mac Mini is connected to a ViewSonic LED Monitor via an HDMI cable and is running Mac OS X Lion Server.
It all started a month ago and I suspected it was due to an external hard disk I had. When I removed it the problem didn't crop up for a few weeks. So I thought the issue was resolved.
Over the past week the problem re-surfaced again and nearly everyday I am experiencing screen freezing about five times a day and the only option is to power down my Mac Mini Server from the power button. This is becoming increasingly frustrating. When screen freezing occurs, everything freezes and I get some small rectangular boxes on screen moving.
The only things that have changed over the past week was that I installed the latest Safari fix and connected the Harman Kardon Sounsticks II to the Mac Mini.
Can't understand what is happening. From various threads I read, many mac users are experiencing screen freezes. If anyone has any resolutions please let me know.

Lion has a screen refresh bug it is just the screen going to sleep and the the screen updating only where the curser moves.

  • Part of screen has become unresponsive

Suddenly part of my Iphone 4 screen has become unresponsive. In vertical screen mode, it's the bottom R.hand corner and selected other spots near the bottom of the screen, e.g. the back button, z,c,and m keys. It seems to be the same area of the screen when turned into horizontal mode, so that there it's e.g. the send button in mail. In the phone, pressing the back symbol brings up the # sign, just above it - so if I make a mistake hitting the phone keys, I can't undo it without powering down then re-powering up.
There are no scratches on the glass, and I have tried re-setting the phone. I have the latest Itunes and ios. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • I have an iPod Touch on iOS 5.1.1 - the screen showed 'Activated Required' and was unresponsive. I plugged it in and restored it to factory settings, but the screen is still unresponsive. Says 'slide to set up' but I can't slide! Any help?

iPod first stopped updating/downloading apps, then shut down completely. Finally got around to plugging it into our home Mac and restoring it, which all seemed to go fine. However the screen is still unresponsive, I have tried turning it off and on again etc.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I suspected it to be a hardware fault but found a lot of people online had experienced the same problem. What should I do? Obviously it is well out of warranty and the battery is literally brand new. Seems a sad waste if it cannot be repaired. I've yet to find a definitive answer or what to do, be it contact Apple etc....
Again, many thanks for taking the time to help. :-)

  • 5S screen is occasionally unresponsive to touch, and interaction is sluggish. All since updating to iOS 8.

Ever since I updated to iOS 8, and all subsequent updates (currently running iOS 8.1.1) my iPhone 5S is considerably slower. Apps hesitate when I switch between them and sometimes crash entirely. Sometimes my screen is entirely unresponsive to touch and I have to tap numerous times before it works. I have restarted, i've done resets, I've backed up to the cloud, erased phone and restored from back up. The problems still persist.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Was just opening page on Chrome when computer went to white screen and became unresponsive. Did this several weeks ago too. Disk tools find no issues.

While trying to open a link on FB, my computer went to a white screen and become unresponsive. I had to do a hard close. It did reboot and the Disk Aid finds no problems when I ran Verify Disc. This happened 2 weeks ago as well and I had to do a Safe mode reboot. Things seem a little slow when I use internet-Google Chrome (updated). I have a MacBook Pro with  OS X 10.9.4  I'm not sure what else needs to be done? I'm not supertech savvy.

Hello! Since you don't have the startup disk your best shot is using fsck. Tom
when you re-start, hold down the apple key AND the "S" key You'll start up into a command line interface.. it'll look strange but just hang in there. When it's done booting up, you should see something that looks like this: localhost:/ root# at this point, type in 'fsck -f" please note the space before the dash, and of course, ignore the quote marks, then hit return You computer will no go thru some low level checks on your HD. Most likely you'll get a list of a few files that have problems and this procedure will fix them. This should take about 2 or 3 mins, so don't be in a rush. When the line says "VOLUME WAS MODIFIED", this means that changes were made. At this point you should be back at the same localhost:/ root# prompt. run fsck -f again. Wait for it to finish. if you continue to get the "Volume was modified" message, continue to run fsck -f until you'll get a prompt that says The Volume(your HD) appears to be ok, again with the localhost:/ root# prompt. AT this point, type reboot, hit enter and your computer will start up normally. This is not difficult, but you may want to give it a shot when your feel you have a few moments where you can attempt something new and not stress too much.

  • IPad 2 Safari screen greyed and unresponsive

Safari screen greyed and unresponsive have cleared I think it happens when too many windows are open. Solved it once by reinstalling is there a less drastic solution?

The "sleep" button is the same as the on/off button.
The Home button is the button that returns you to the App screens. (Center of bezel on narrow edge of iPad).
Restart: Press the On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, to restart press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).

  • Is there a way that when using airplay with power point the ATV does not sleep/screen saver frequently

s there a way that when using airplay with power point the ATV does not sleep/screen saver frequently???

I have done this for several Titles, using Photoshop and a Layer Mask, that gets "erased," revealing the letters. My Titles were of "handwriting with chalk" on a blackboard, so I could keep the edge of that Layer Mask, looking more like the "chalk." Photoshop also makes it easy to output Layer Comps for each "step" in the handwriting process. IIRC, I did about 5 Frames per Layer Comp on Import, but do not recall if I used an extremely short Cross-Dissolve Transition between those - I intened to do so, but just do not remember if I liked that, or went with just the Still Images? Will try to find that animation, and maybe create a full tutorial of the process. In my case, I also added an SFX of chalk on a chalkboard.
If you have Photoshop, it's really quite easy to pull off.
Now, I do not know if Photoshop Elements has Layer Masks yet, which make it so very easy to accomplish. One could do it backward, where the Text Layer gets Erased, and then one would have their full Image as the last in the sequence, and then the next would have a little bit of the Text removed, then a bit more, then a bit more - going backward, until the "writing surface" is clean. One could also do this with a Transparent Background, so that one saw the Video below, and no actual "writing surface" visible.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Macbook Pro 13-inch (10.6.8) random white/black screens and becomes unresponsive...what is wrong/what to do to solve?

PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS I'M IN NEED OF URGENT HELP. || Heeey everyone! I'm new here. Please don't bite me. =))
Okay. So I have a Macbook Pro, 13 inch (bought Dec. 2010). It's currently running on Snow Leopard (10.6.8). It had a hard drive crash in Feb. 2012...I had it replaced and lost all my files . It had two major falls (January 2011 & November 2012). Oh, and it also makes this weird grinding noise when you listen closely.
Everything was going fine, until last week, I encountered a kernel panic. Restarted, but was faced with that awkward blank white screen thing at start up. I was told at the Apple Store back when my hard drive crashed in Feb. 2012 that repeated pressing down of the power button can be damaging, so I waited for it to run out of battery to restart. After that, it was normal again. I downloaded OnyX and verified/repaired permissions...nothing was out of the ordinary.
THEN. The next day, in the middle of use, my mac suddenly black-screened. Not a lot of windows were open, and I wasn't doing anything that...will put a strain on anything. It wasn't total pitch-black like the screen looks like when it's turned off. I could still hear the hard drive working and making that grinding sound. I pressed the caps-lock key, and it didn't light up. =))) What, is it off or something? But I can still hear the hard drive there. And it's totally unresponsive. So I decided to restart by pressing down the power button. It was normal again...until a few hours later when it suddenly white-screened. OKAY it's white now. I don't know what that's supposed to mean. But it had the same symptoms as the black-screen. Unresponsive, caps-lock didn't light up, normal grinding sound as if the computer was still on. So I let it run out of battery so I could restart. Upon restarting, I opened Disk Utility and verified disk permissions. There was no damage, nothing again.
I recently got uTorrent (around late December), and thought that it might have been that, so I deleted it and emptied trash. The next day, it did the black screen again. Same with the next day. There's at least one per day. It didn't seem to affect performance at all, everything still ran smoothly. I made sure to check disk permissions to see if everything was okay. And everything was.
Then, about three days passed without any black/white screen and I thought that nuisance was over. BUT NO. Two days ago, I got black-white-white screened and I was...shocked. I let it run out of battery again. =))) Checked Disk Utility, again, nothing. So I decided to get that Software Update thingo that always pops up. I upgraded to 10.6.8. A day passed without the dreaded black/white screens. But yesterday, it white screened once. And today, it white screened again.
I really can't figure out a concrete pattern. It seems random. But what I do know is that:
    1. It happens in the afternoon. All the time, consistently in the afternoon. LOOOL IDK what this is supposed to mean, but its one of the common factors. =))
    2. Most of the time, it happens when I leave the computer for about 30 seconds - 1 minute to get something. Or if I'm watching a long video (like a TV show episode), a period of time where I don't touch the mouse/press any keys. Is that related somehow?
    3. I can't do anything to get it out of the white/black screen except restart. Each time I restart, I check Disk Utility and nothing is wrong.
And yes, I've went to the Apple Store to get this checked. All they said is: "Upgrade to Lion, maybe the error will disappear. If it does, then it was just a software error. If it doesn't...then sorry." LOOOOOOL NOT FALLING FOR THAT, not spending money when I'm not sure it'll fix the error. I want concrete answers.
I'm a student, and my Christmas Break will be over in less than a week. SO I NEED ALL THE HELP IN THE WORLD PLEASE. What is wrong with my laptop? Can I fix this? Will opening it in safe mode help in any way? PLEASE I'M DESPERATE.

    Try these:
See what's loading in your login items. - delete the ones you don't need.
Open up Activity Monitor and under all processes, see what's using most of your cpu's resources.  Highlight the ones using the most % CPU and hit quit process.
Next, open up disk utility and verify your disk.  Once that's done, verify disk permissions - repair if needed.
Restart your Macbook and see if it speeds things up for you.
    good luck....
