Screen is permanently black on my iMac 2011, need help

Hi guys, I have an iMac 2011 21" and it works really great, I have bootcamped it for some games which also works great. But today I when I was rebooting to Windows after I had updated the Mac a problem occured. As the computer shut down in Mac mode the screen went black as normally, and it began starting in Windows mode, the startup sound came as normal but the screen stayed black. I waited for a few mins and it remained black. I restarted it and the startup sound came as usual but again, no lights. The computer was pretty hot when i felt it also, could that be a cause? I tried removing the loadcable completely for like 10 mins and started it again, same problem. I also can't see anything on the screen if i have light from a flashlight, I tested the Alt + CMD + P + R combo and it didn't work. Tested to put the Mac disc in and press C at startup, didn't work.
And also, the computer is working, because I can hear sounds (lower and higher the volume) and i pressed some keys and then Enter, and the "failure" sound came. Also, I'm not 100 % sure if the computer is in Windows or Mac at the moment, even though it was going to boot in Windows, it feels like it's in Mac, because there were no Windows sounds.
Please help me, thanks in advance!
- Axel

Try booting up in  Safe Mode , it will take longer than normal but does stuff during that time. If it isn't on in a couple of minutes we have a problem. If safe mode doesn't help try this reset:
SMC RESET
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
If that doesn't help you may be experiencing a video failure.

My iphone4s Parallax effect is on but my Control Centre is a flat grey whereas it should share the same colour scheme as my home screen. Regardless of what colour my home screen is (pink, green, blue etc), the control centre is a non-see-through flat grey colour. And my notification screen is permanently black.
    Please help, thank you

The way that Dropbox works is that it keeps a copy of all your files in your local Dropbox folder on your hard drive (which is, by default, directly under your home folder). Adding files to that folder will sync them to the Dropbox server.
You do of course have to download the Dropbox application to enable this (download link at the top right of http://dropbox.com ).

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Lawyer? You think some lawyer wants to take on an issue like that? Who's gonna pay for it? By the time he got rolling the repair would be done anyway. It just one of those situations. You buy a new machine and it breaks you DON'T get a new one it gets repaired.
No amount of acting like an idiot in the store at the "Mall of America" (or whatever other store you got it in somewhere in the country) is going to get you a new one. No amount of phone calling, No amount of emails. Nothing. They will simply tell you over and over its not policy to give you a new machine but rather to honor the limited warranty the machine comes with. (My experience made me purchase the extended warranty just out of fear).
If you buy the machine and it worked and then it stopped working even a day later THAT falls under the limited warranty. You wait for the repair. if it cannot be repaired for whatever reason then you get a new machine.

  • HT1386 i have an iphone 4s. Im getting the iphone 5s for christmas, but i do  not have my phone backed up, and my phone is not working and my screen is covered with blue lines. I need help.

My iphone is not working, i was planning on getting the iphone 5s for christmas, but i do not have my phone backed up on itunes. On my screen are these blue lines across on my screen, and i cant see anthing and i do not know what to do. I want to back up my phone but i cant see my screen to back it up. I need help badly. Thanks apple hope you can help me in this matter.

You wouldn't need to see the screen to backup unless you have a passcode on the device. Is that the case? You should be able to plug the device into the computer with iTunes and just select backup now.

The only people that can help you are those at an Apple store.
Your Mac is broken and needs to be repaired. That is IF you get absolutely nothing on the screen after pressing the powwr button.

  • Kernal Panic: iMac 2011: Please help.

    Hi, everyone,
A few months ago, a friend's iMac started to crash during random events. Sometimes while on Facebook, sometimes while just surfing the Internet, and sometimes just word processing. I wrote about it in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19560212?ac_cid=op123456#19560212
He brought it to Apple Genius at Apple Store here in town. The Genius ran it through a series of hardware checks and a stress test and couldn't recreate the issue. His only advice was "to shut down once in a while."
Sure enough, the panics continued to happen, always for a different reason. I finally suggested to my friend after some tests from the above thread, to do a Erase and Install of the operating system. This seemed to have fix the issue, but sure enough, the panics resurfaced. Yesterday, the machine had four panics in one day. At this point, I think my friend should take it back to the Apple Store, speak with a Genius and ask them to review all these logs. Basically, making sure he doesn't leave the store until they agree to take a real look at the computer. At this point, he has 10 to 12 crash logs. Here is the latest one:
    Any advice would be appreciated.

It's a hardware fault. To reproduce the issue at the Apple Store, the hardware configuration must be the same, including any wired peripherals.

  • 21.5in iMac 2011 -Display Help

Today I bought a secondary 21.5in HP Monitor for my iMac. (Dual Display Setup)
Currently neither my iMac (OSX MNT Lion) or the display can see each other. I am using a Belkin Thunderbolt to HDMI connector and then an HDMI to DVI-D cable. Is there something wrong with my setup? Or do I just have some settings configured incorrectly?
    Methods Ive Tried:
    Detect Displays
    CMD + Option + P + R
    PRAM Reset

    Here is the Apple version:

  • IPod Touch 5gen screen suddenly turned BLACK???? PLEASE HELP and give me a useful reply!

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME I'M FREAKING OUT.
Ok so I DO NOT HAVE WARRANTY ANYMORE. My ipod is over an year old.
Ok my ipod was working fine and I put it in my backpack and when I took it out 5mins later and tried to turn it on with the top button (since my home button DOES NOT WORK and is STUCK, idk how that happen either ugh) it would NOT turn on. My ipod was around 50% battery (plz do not say the battery indicator is unreliable because it was half charged). So I plug into my computer and itunes won't recognize it and I plug it to a wall charger and it wont turn on!!!!!!
Please give me a useful reply!

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.
You will find respective repair costs in the appropriate link:

    iPad Service Support and Costs
There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task:
    1. iResq or Google for others.
    2. Buy and replace screen yourself: iFixit

  • IMac Novice Needs Help

My first desktop was a Macintosh. Since then I have had 22 years of PC's. I am back now with my new iMac but my machine appears to be running slow. Will an upgrade in memory from 512 MB improve performance? The price of an upgrade at the Apple store is $600 for 2x1GB. Are there better alternatives? Where should I shop?
Thanks so much. I appreciate your help.

    Hi again,
I agree with Glor re: MS Apps...
But the searches you're doing should go rather quickly. You can try downloading a different browser like Firefox and see if that helps speed up your internet experience. Personally, I like Safari and have not had any problems, I also use Firefox as well.
One last thing to look into is tuning up your machine: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/performance.html - follow the link at "Perform regular maintenance", I use the Terminal method, and found my iMac runs very consistently, quieter and a bit quicker...
