I understand that you are having issues with your HP TouchSmart 520 while playing games. I would be happy to assist you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer as there are various versions of the 520. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. As well, if you could indicate which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number I can provide you with accurate information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

  • Screen artifacts while playing games with catalyst

Hello. I recently switched back to Arch Linux (64-bit) and I'm running with the catalyst-hook package from Vi0L0's inofficial repository. When I play games, or also when I'm using hardware acceleration in VLC, these artifacts appear on the screen. They disappear quickly if you update the screen, so they are not so prevalent on the actual gaming screen. They however flood my second screen. In case of VLC they are just constantly blinking all over the place. I've googled the issue, but couldn't find anything that helped. If I alt-tab out of the game all artifacts disappear, but then reapper later after I've continued playing for a few minutes. This is very annoying.
Is there anything that can fix this? Please help!
This is the Xorg0.log right after I played a game where the issues occured:

I tried re-installing viedo card and direct X.
I also tried to search for virus with Quick Heal but no virus was found.
I was also able to play this game before.
This problem started when I installed Company of Heroes game.
Now I can't play any games.
    Please help thanks.

    Hello pleurisy,
Your system is getting an error when trying to play a game.
This might be caused by the system getting too hot.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
If your still getting the error, go to HP.com and update the BIOS.
Here is a link to the update.
Also make sure that the system does not have a buildup of dust inside the system.
Take the side panel off and clean the inside of the computer with compressed air.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • Common screen problem while playing games in Windows 7 x64

When I start games like Red Alert2 and alot others, the game doesn't show properly as some times the screen goes black or the buttons or menues doesn't show at all
Some other forums adviced to make these steps
    Right click on Desktop
    Select Screen Resolution
Click Detect (with no additional monitor connected)
Next to your first display, you'll see a grey square with the text "Another display not detected" Click on the grey square
Next to "Multiple displays" it will say "No display detected"
    Click on "No display detected"
    A drop-down menu will appear
Select "Try to connect anyway on: VGA"
Click on your primary display (the square with the big "1" in it)
Next to "Multiple displays" select "Extend these displays"
I tried these steps and every thing is going fine,  but the annoying problem is that I have to change the display settings each time I run a game and when I'm done playing I have to change them back, since of "Extended displays" order
In earlier windows versions it worked totally with no problems and even on Windows 8.1 x64
What would be the error here?
What should I do instead of all this jam? Is there any Hotfixes?
Note: I have two video cards running Intel HD graphics and Nvidia Geforce
***Update :The problem also exists in Windows 8.1 x64

    Hi Maen Abdulhaq,
“When I start games like Red Alert2 and a lot others”, ” I don't think that this is a manufacturer problem since it's very common to all those having windows 7 x64 and trying to play such games”
Did this issue occur in the whole games or just the Red Alert2 in your machines ?
    “unfortunalety windows compatibility settings”
Have you tried in windows 98 or lower compatibility mode, please ensure you have choose run as an administrator?
Apart from this ,I recommend you to try this method.
create a shortcut of "Yuri.exe" (or "Game.exe" if running normal RA2), and place it on the desktop. Open the properties, and in the target line add "-dxlevel 8" to the end. It should look like this (or similar if you're directories
    are different).
     "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Red Alert(tm) II\RA2\YURI.exe" -dxlevel 8
Meanwhile,  entering Intel HD Graphics control panel (via Windows Control Panel or right-clicking the desktop) and enter Power section. Choose "High performance" mode.
If the issue persists, I recommend you to disable one graphic card from the device manager to have a check considering you have two graphic cards.
    Best regards

  • Full Screen Area when playing games on Intel-Based iMac

    Hello,
I have tried playing several games (Quake 4, Wolfenstein, ...) and whenever i choose a screen resolution over 1024 it only covers the screen partially. So the game only takes up the left hand side of the screen with a black area. What's up with this? Even at Widescreen resolutions this happens. Help. I've tried installing updates and all that jazz. Nothing.

It has nothing to do with Apple computers. It has to do with aspect ratio. We are moving away from the 4:3 of the old CRT monitors & televisions. Go buy a widescreen monitor for your PC & the "problem" will be the same.
My widescreen TV has the ability (as do most) to use the entire screen, but the cost is that it stretches & cuts off some of the image. This is not too bad when watching TV or video, but playing a game this way would be maddening!
Some newer games can be set to use a widescreen aspect ratio, and there are "hacks" available for some others. I suggest looking for a forum on the games you play most & see if people there have a definitive answer for you.
Also, look real close at the settings & play with them. The aspect ratio you are looking for is 16:10. Just take a look at this article on Wikipedia. I assure you it is not "Apple" that is creating this mess!

  • Game Center blank white screen - can't play games

I need help.  I cannot play my games anymore because there is something wrong with Game Center.
This is what I get when I open Game Center.

This is my Game Center settings screen.
    http://i.imgur.com/g6foSll.png
    (spinning forever)
I cannot reinstall GC because it's a native iOS app.  I've tried closing the app itself, along with the Settings app and restarting my iPhone several times, no dice.
    Any advice?

Thanks very much to the other victims of this defect in iOS for sharing the fix which worked for me too.
But how absolutely rediculous and pathetic that we should have to reset all setting and then go back and re-enter all preferences to fix this problem. This is far short of the quality expected form Apple.
Flaws of this kind are exactly what causes corporations to fall from the top of their fields, and if not corrected to become obsolete. Are we seeing a glimse of things to come here?

  • Green screen issues when playing videos in fb + youtube

at first i noticed a re-occurring problem when playing videos via facebook or youtube. A green screen randomly appeared now and then until i reset the laptop. I tried many things, including one suggestion to change quality option from 480p to 140p via settings option in youtube. It worked on some occasions, was able to view video as the green screen disappeared. Of course, as expected, image quality suffered. I contacted Lenovo to inform them of issues I was having with viewing videos, they advised it was a problem with the adobe software and that I should check to see if I have an updated version installed on my laptop. (currently running O/S windows 8.1 and IE 11), I downloaded chrome, fortunately, I am able to view videos in youtube properly even though they appear as a green screen in IE 11. Not so lucky with facebook however, green screens in IE when playing Facebook video uploads appear as black screens in chrome. I reset the laptop and everything appears to be running fine. Is this an adobe software issue? Lenovo seems to think so, Seeing as how others experience the same issue regardless of the make and model of laptop, they may be right.

Please work through the video troubleshooting guide.

If you're still stuck, please follow the directions in the guide on providing the dxdiag report and additional information about what you tested and saw.

  • Keyboard issue while playing game!!!

    Hi
I've my MacBook Pro yesterday and tried to play Need For Speed Pro Street! everything runs prefect except I can't use the keyboard in the menus of this game!
Esc / Enter / F keys / arrow keys works fine but not the Letters or space!
    Any help?
    Thanks!

Thats completely normal. it uses a LOT of power  to play that game and it can cause you iphone to heat up. BUT if it gets real hot you need to close the app and let your iphone cool off or it will force you to ( it will give you some message about iphone is overheated and close it for you and theres nothing you can do about it untill it cools off)

  • Sound lag when playing games

    Hi,
My Z1 compact has sound issues when playing games.
There is a noticable sound lag of about a second (not much but is quite annoying), not only on newer games but also on the older ones, Angry Birds for example.  My recorded videos or YouTube don't appear to have the same issue.
The problem seemed to occur after I had installed Worms 2: Armageddon when the phone got extremely hot and crashed. It was after the phone had reset and cooled down that I noticed the sound lag issue and Worms 2 was running at a very slow frame rate.
I then installed Worms 2 on my ASUS TF201 and it runs perfectly with no sound or heating issues.
I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue so i'm wondering if my phone is faulty.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Letter keys are not working on MacBook Air when playing games?

Hello. I'm using 10.6.6 on my MacBook Air 2.1 (2009 model).
I've got a really strange issue when playing games (any game produces this issue). ONLY the letter keys aren't working. The rest is working - numbers, function keys, arrows, tab, enter, delete, etc. Only the keys A to Z are not working.
This happens both on native games (like Hedgewars from App Store) and ported ones (like Need for speed).
    What's the issue?
    Thank you!

    Bump.

  • Screen flashes black while playing games

When I play games. The screen flashes black for a few seconds and then comes back and does it again?

After reading this one sentence problem description it is not easy to say much about your problem.
Maybe you should tell us something about your machine, preinstalled OS, display driver that you use and of course be a bit more detailed about this issue.

    Hello there.

  • Blue screen whenever I try to play games - please help

    Hi,
My computer runs perfectly when I do tasks such as using the net, typing letters etc, but as soon as I run a game it stops working....
I start the game up, it runs through the intro movies, and then it shows a blank blue screen with the sound "repeating"in the background - the only way of getting out of this is to turn off & restart my computer from the switch.  It does this with all of my games, so I know it's not a issue with a particular game.  It seems to do this when it would normally engage the 3D effects part of the processor.
Since this problem has started I have re-built the machine (formatted), installed a fresh copy of windows, downloaded the latest drivers and yet it still will not play games.  I have also rolled back to previous versions of the drivers in case it was an issue with the new version of the drivers, and still no change.
I do suspect that it is a driver problem though, because once the computer has restarted after the error and windows says it has recovered from a serious error, the error report says that a driver caused the problem (it doesn't say which driver, and it isn't much more helpful than that).  Sometimes the blue screen says something about "driver edirol not equal" or something like that, but usually it is blank.
If anybody can help me solve this I'll be extremely grateful, because I am completely out of ideas.
    My system details are below:
    Motherboard - MSI 845E MAX
Graphics card - Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro
    Processor - Intel Pentium 4 2.4
Sound - Soundblaster Audigy platinum, and Delta 44
    Running - Windows XP professional
I have tried to run the following games - C&C Generals, Black and White, Spellforce, Planetside and Soldior of Fortune 2.
    Thanks,
    Richard Elliott
