Screen Issue with HP G7000 laptop

Hi there,
I bought a second hand HP G7000 laptop preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium x86 a few days ago, the problem with it was that the screen wouldn't light up even when plugged the laptop was plugged in using the AC adapter which I also had to buy seperately as the original one was misplaced and only cost me £10 for a compatible one off the Internet, the screen wasn't shattered and showed no signs of wear and tear, I took it to my local PC repair shop for £40 in which the contacts behind the screen needed connecting back up and with a little soldering for some other parts of the repair, however when I tookit  back to my place the screen lit up fine in which I decided to perform a factory restore to make it feel like it was brand new and that it belonged to me. After restoring the laptop successfully, I noticed that a lot of stuff was a little out-of-date and decided to update it to make it compliant with the latest security fixes as well as the latest bug fixes i.e. to upgrade to SP2 etc, however upon updating and turning on the laptop every so often the display kept going funny i.e. black and white and wouldn't display anything clearly in which I had to keep forcing the laptop to shut down with using the power button in which I don't like doing as this will corrupt the hard drive eventually, however upon researching this problem on the Internet I stumbled across this forum thread http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f108/hp-g7000-screen-issue-529809.html using Google describing a very similar problem to me, the problem not only seems to be with tilting the angle of the screen but also the surface in which the unit is placed down on, I've tried various surfaces including my USB fan cooler, glass and wood and all produce various results from time to time. So I guess the answer is to place the unit down on a flat surface that isn't shiny and screen not tilting when using the laptop? I thought the purpose of a laptop was to make computing mobile regardless of what surface you place the unit  down on and what angle you have the screen at. Your feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
RocknRollTim
P.S. I also suspect that the problem is related to interference and lighting conditions as well as heating conditions and the battery as the battery sometimes retains its charge whereas sometimes it doesn't and have to use the AC adapter when this happens, don't know whether flashing the BIOS has helped the battery to retain its charge though.
This question was solved.

Hello @RocknRollTim,
I understand that your notebook computer is experiencing an issue with the display screen as well as keeping a charge with the battery, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose the integrity of your computer's battery, I recommend following this document on Calibrating the Notebook Battery (Windows Vista). This should help re-synchronize the battery with your notebook.
Because the display intermittently stays on the screen when moved a certain angle, I believe the display panel cables are defective. According to the Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer, this part can be replaced with a camera (462455-001) or without (454932-001), and can be found from the multiple vendors below:

Hello, in view of the fact that many users had screen discolouration issues and uneven backlight issues with the iPad 3rd Gen, I wonder if those issues have been sorted out. Has anyone here had any screen issues with the iPad mini, or the iPad 4th Gen?

    No.

  • I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook. Constantly dropping internet connection or message "error connecting to the network" comes up. No wireless connectivity issues with windows 7 laptop or iphone.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The last few weeks it has been constantly dropping internet connection, and one of these messages appear on the page: "Safari cannot open this page because the server where this page is located isn't responding" or "Safari cannot open this page because you are not connected to the internet" comes up. I will check Wifi and I am connected. No wifi connectivity issues with iphone or windows 7 laptop, this doesn't happen with either of those devices. I have unplugged and reset router, cleared cache, still happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Notebook screen issues with green stains

    Hello:
    I currently own an
    HP G62-355DX Notebook PC
    [Personal Information Removed]
    P/N: XH068UA#ABA
    running Windows 7 64-bit
All of sudden (not gradually) green "stains" appeared on my notebook's screen as 3 circles one around the other, sort of like a "bulls-eye" and when I try to run a program in full-screen mode the screen goes bezerk and nothing is readable. I thought it was an issue with the cable connecting the screen to the main-board but I've been told the issues would be different.
These green "stains" or pixels affect any program running or the screen itself, even the Windows 7 starting screen and the HP logo when the notebook is turned on by making the letters on the bottom-left corner unreadable.
After contacting HP at Peru, where I currently reside, I was told the model was not sold here and that I had to contact US support. They said that it could be an issue with the screen itself that could require maintenance at an HP office. And also told me that it was unlikely for remote support to be able to fix the issue.
It is still not over a year before I got the notebook so I'm guessing the warranty is still available.
Would I be required to e-mail the computer back to headquarters in hopes of it being repaired? Is it possible that it could be dealt with at your offices at Peru (I will still be residing here for quite some time).

Better call the hp tech support at 1-800-474-6836. HTH

  • Weird screen issues with safari

Hi, I just got a refurbished 15" macbook pro...not retina, but I believe it's a 2012 model.  I'm experiencing a couple weird issues with it.  So far, they seem to be exclusive to Safari, but I'm not sure yet.  Haven't been able to recreate the same problems in Chrome or other programs.  The problems are:
    1)  When filling text into a blank or box...as in a google search, or typing a facebook message, the text I am typing will often disappear or be invisible until i move the cursur to someplace else...then the text will show up.  Words at a time can be invisible.  Like I said, so far, I'm only noticing this in Safari, not Chrome, but I'll have to test with Chrome some more to know for sure.
    2)  Sometimes portion of a page will be misplaced on the screen.  For example, if I'm on Safari, and reading a news story, the left side of the page will look normal, and the right side of the page will look normal, but they won't match in the middle....I'll be seeing text from the beginning of the article one the left side, but from the end on the right side as though only part of the page is able to scroll.  Again, this is only in Safari so far.
Both these issues (which I assume are related) have been happening since the first day I got the computer last week and it hasn't been dropped or had anything spilled on it or anything.  I'm well within the warranty period, but this problem may be hard to recreate immediately if I bring it in to a store, so I want to check here first and see if anybody has any ideas.
I'm hoping this is a simple known bug with Safari that will eventually be fixed and not a problem with my new computer.  It is enough to have me second guessing my decision to go with a refurbished model, but I'm probably just paranoid.  I'd appreciate any info that anyone has.  Thanks!!!

I could suggest a reset, but I don't believe that will do much good.
First, I would contact your local Apple Store, should you be near one, and see if the Genius Bar can solve the problem quickly.
Second, if they require repairs, you can use their expertise; or, you can use iPod Juice - a business that's more competitive. The latter is where I had my repairs done; email them for fees and services.

  • Screen Issues with MacBook Pro (Static Lines)

Hey guys.  I aam having problems with my Screen/Display on my Macbook Pro.
Static lines appear aprox 1/3 of the way in from the right side.  The lines run horizontally about 1 inch in length and running vertically all the way down the display. A screen shot shows a normal working display.  Took a pic of the problem:
I cannot run hardware tools.  My computer did not come with a disc and I know they are only a shipping charge but I do not have even $5.  I am a student and this is my only way to do my schoolwork.  The Screen (inner display and outer protective screen) was replaced by Apple in May '12.  The 1 yr warranty ran out in June '12.  When the screen was replaced it started doing this as well, but had not gotten this bad.  There are now 2 where there was only one yesterday.  I am wondering if it may be the cable as moving the display often fixes or produces the problem.   I know the cable is not very expensive and not to difficult to replace.
Here is the info on my Mac:
    Nice Name:
    Machine Model: MacBookPro9,1
Name: MacBook Pro (mid 2012) 15 inch
    Family name: A1286
    Model Number: MD103
    Group1: MacBook
    Group2: Pro
    Generation:
    CPU speed: 2.3GHz
    Screen size: 15.4 inch
    Screen resolution: 1440x900 pixels
    Colour: Aluminium
    Production year: 2012
    Production week: 13  (April)
    Model introduced: 2012
    Memory - flavour: DDR3-S-1600
Memory - number of slots: 2
    Memory - maximum total: 16GB
    Memory - largest module: 8GB
Factory: C0 (Quanta Computer (Susidiary = Tech Com))

It is getting worse in the sense that it is occuring more often and taking longer to resolve.  Moving the laptop lid/display would typically fix the prblem in the past but now it is hit or miss.  Even vibrations will cause the issue to occur or resolve.  We are leaning more towards the issue being a cable and not the display.  Since taking a screenshot produces a pic without issues I would gather that the video card is fuctioning properly.  I welcome any comments on this.

  • White screen issue with DVC Pro HD

I have a G5, have Final Cut HD and have upgraded to QT 7 Pro. I am trying to open an HD file I shot last year, which was edited on another system. When I try to open the clip, it is a white screen with audio. The movie info is as follows.
    DVCPRO HD (720p60), 1280 x 720, Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
Any ideas on why it is not playing? Thanks!
    John M

ok... i just got this on mine. yesterday i was just getting ready to log subclips from fcp5, and when i opened the project file, i noticed that all my subclips i created and orignal clip where all red / out. so i closed fcp5 and went to the location of the file. i double clicked it, and behold, white screen, audio only.. so i had to completely redo the convertion of the orginal file.
    next day
I was looking for a subclip that i had already extracted from the main file, and when i double clicked it showed the video. after that closed the window, and someone asked me to reopen the quicktime file again, i double clicked it, and all of a sudden the video was white, and only audio.
ive spent about 4 to 5 hours researching with someone else on this issue and have yet to find anything such as a fix, or work around, but my video keeps disappearing which is disturbing. from what we have come down to the issue is deals within quicktime are below...
we believe that quicktime is somehow changing the codecs DVC PRO and changing it to "Integer (Big Endian), Timecode, Video.." that is what it says.. and comepletely removing the codec for the video, and deleting the video footage, but keeping the audio in place perfectly. now, we also used metadatahootenanny to inspect a copy of the file and low and behold severe corrupt of the meta data in the quicktime file. the issue be with quicktime interaction with storage, or a bug quicktime behalf. we need to find a solution to this issue. we are currently in contact with apple tech support and hopefully we will be posting a answer soon.

  • Issue With Brand New Laptop

I just got my Gateway laptop yesterday, it wouldn't load or recognize a printer driver disc....is this normal? If not, I will return and get an HP like I had before....

Forgot to mention testing another disc LOL.
Whenever I reload my computers, I rarely, if ever use the discs that came with them for drivers. I prefer to go directly to the manu. site so I don't have to bother with updating the old ones that are on the discs.

  • Stuck at grey screen issue: with an Afghanistan twist

First time post, so please go easy. I apologize for loading so much into the first post, but I believe it's better to give you all the information about my situation so I don't waste your time having to ask me questions about it, that I could have already provided.
Background: I bought my 17" MBP from a friend in late 2007 after he convinced me how superb it was in comparison to a PC. Since then I've been on a mission to convert everyone I can, as I personally view Windows as a self sustaining virus and will never use one for personal use again.
I'm in the Army, and my MBP has survived three long deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and has not once ever had any kind of problems...until now. I'm currently in Afghanistan with my MBP and do not have any of my systems disks. A week ago, the CD drive stopped reading disks of any kind and ejects them after attempting to read them. Additionally, I can now hear the right side fan sounding like a lawn mower.
Today, my biggest nightmare came to fruition. I restarted my MBP after making some folder organizational changes, and it now refuses to start. It sticks at the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel. The wheel does spin. (I say that since in other threads I've noticed most people say their wheel does not spin).
I've already read countless blogs and discussion boards, and have tried many recommended solutions. I have particularly enjoyed Kappy's help to others. But I feel as if I'm in an near Apollo 13 situation, in that I do not have my installation CD and it wouldn't help anyway with my CD drive not responding and having nothing else to use to get my MBP to start up.
I've tried the single user startup using command "s" and attempted some solutions suggested by Kappy with the following results:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
This ends by telling me "The volume MAC HD appears to be OK"
    AWESOME
    So then I tried this:
    :/ root# /sbin/mount -uw /
    :/ root# cd /Library/Preferences
    :Preferences rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
and could not go any further because it responded with: "No such file or directory"
When I tried using command "V" it kept repeating the following:
    chad-squires-macbook-pro-32 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.mDNSResponder[31]): posix_spawnp("/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder', ...): No such file or directory
So at this point, I have no idea what to do. I have internet access through a friends MBP (thought it's about as fast as dial up), but that's the extent of my problem and availability of resources to fix.
Please tell me that there is something I can do to get my baby working again, and most importantly get some irreplaceable family photos off and other documents back.

Oh boy, you've gotten some all-over-the-board responses.
    Let's start here.
Someone mentioned above that it sounds like the NVIDIA issue. Rest assured, unless you have no video, graphics artifacting (lines, distortion, etc.), or kernel panics (messages that tell you you have to power off/restart), you don't have the NVIDIA issue. People love to toss that out when you have a model that may be affected, your symptoms don't sound anything like this.
You're not necessarily SOL without your install discs per se, but if it does look like you need to reinstall, there's not much that can be done without...well...some kind of installer. You can install from a USB drive but you'd need a working machine and an operating system disc of some kind to clone it.
    That said:
    :/ root# /sbin/mount -uw /
    :/ root# cd /Library/Preferences
    :Preferences rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
Unless I'm reading this wrong, you've got a typo.
    Should be:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /Library/Preferences
    rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    I saw the line
    :Preferences rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
Was expecting you to have root# in front, that makes me think you typed 'preferences rm', you don't need to type 'preferences' first.
Also: is your account set to automatically log you in (take you to the desktop) or does it have you type your username/password first? That might be important.
Have you tried a safe boot?
Safe boot: this can be helpful if the issue is with your account, a font cache, or a third party kernel extension/driver. Boot this way by holding Shift when you hear the chime, let go when you see the spinning gear. If all goes well, this should take you to the login window. If you can't boot in safe mode or if it does the exact same thing, again, let us know.
The results you saw in verbose mode make me think it's hanging because something got moved. mDNSresponder is important and you can't start without it.
There are other preference files that we can troubleshoot, I find verbose mode to be the most helpful in diagnosing the spinning wheel that goes on forever, a lot of times it's a corrupt driver and there's not much that can be done except reinstall.
Lastly: you mentioned you restarted after organizational changes and that's when the problem started...what did you move? Anything in the System folder or Library folder(s)?
You mentioned you have a friend with a MBP. Any chance either of you has a firewire cable? Does he have his discs? You can use another computer's superdrive in target disk mode hooked up to your computer, that's always one way to reinstall if your own superdrive doesn't work.

  • DSRM black screen issue with 2012R2 DC running on 2012R2 Hyper-V

    Hi!
I have been testing AD disaster recovery with few domain controllers (Server 2012R2), running on Server 2012R2 and Hyper-V. Everything OK unless I try to log in to Domain Services Recovery Mode.
After username&passwd screen goes all black and nothing happens. Every time, every server (tested this with 3 different HP workstations, one HP ML350G6 server and one laptop). Hyper-V virtual machines tested both gen1 and gen2.
With 2008R2 Hyper-V and same domain controller on it everything works fine. This makes systemstate restore bit more difficult.
Am I missing something or is it just a bug? Googling didn't help this time.

    Hi makapaka471,
"I managed to made this "black screen" with non virtualized operating system as well when I was testing it with 10 computers and booting them to DSRM. All identical machines, installed from same source. "
    It shouldn't happen .
Did you try to download a new  ISO then test  it again ?
I will test that and update .
    UPDATE:
I installed a server 2012r2 DC on hyper-v 2012r2 , backed up the system state  and then restored it back , it worked well when running DSRM .
    Best Regards

When I select 3840x1080, however, the two displays show a side-by-side setup, such that X11 spans over both of them. While I'm happy that I'm now able to make use of the second display, this obviously breaks some software stuff, like fullscreen video in vlc, for example. Any suggestions what I can do about that? Is it possible to software-split the screen such that it looks like a normal dual-head setup again?

  • Grey screen issue with 10.5 & 10.5.1 - bad experience with Leopard

Here's a quick overview of my bad experience with installing Leopard:
*1st attempt:* Upgraded Tiger 10.4.10, was greeted with the blue screen. This was an APE issue.
*2nd attempt:* Archive and installed above install. This is where the continuing issue first occurred. The issue being on the first or second reboot after a 'successful' installation, I get the grey screen and spinning gear loop. In verbose mode I see this recurring loop:
    Mez com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.nDNSResponder |xxx|) : posix_spawnp("usr/sbin/mDNSResponder", ...): No such file or directory
xxx = incremental value, it adds 1 each time the error cycles, which happens roughly ever 10 seconds).
Additionally, Disk Utility reports this error: Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
*3rd attempt:* Erase and install. Same issue as 2nd attempt occured.
*4th, 5th, 6th attempts:* Bought a brand new hard drive to replace the old one. This was an idea that was raised on another one of my threads. People thought I could have bad sectors. Tried upgrading and archive install from 10.4, no. Erase and install, no. Same issue as before.
*7th attempt:* Tried swapping out the RAM from a friends MBP (who has successfully upgraded to Leopard). No, same failure as before.
*8th attempt:* Tried using his Leopard disk. NO!
*9th attempt:* My last attempt so far... Erase and install, then applied the 10.5.1 update. It all went well, but it always has, until the point where I reboot. It successfully rebooted once, but to be sure all was fine (before using the migration assistant) I rebooted again... Oh what a surprise, it doesn't work anymore. Same enraging loop.
*Any new ideas people, I have faith that there is some genius out there who can provide me with a solution. I will love you forever if you can help me.*
*Quick question:* Do other people see the dialogue box that appears before the computer restarts...
"Updating Boot Caches - The Boot caches are being updated, the system will shutdown when this task is complete" (It's sort of along those lines. I don't have enough time to write down exactly what it says)??
Oh well, back to my newest backup (10.4.11).
    *Fingers crossed for 10.5.2 :D*

    THANK YOU!!! At least preliminarily...
I've spent the last three hours researching and troubleshooting my greyscreen dilemma, and your post is the only one that seemed to work so far.
I installed Leopard 10.5 onto my G4 Dual 1.25 Mirror, successfully restarted after the install, then had glitchy problems including being unable to run Software Update or even run the Leopard Update after downloading it from the apple website. So I restarted the computer (after removing the Install DVD and shutting the drive door) and found myself stuck at the grey screen with the spinning ball.
Nothing worked. I couldn't do anything to get it to boot.
After researching, I booted into single user mode and ran mount -o rw,remount / # (from this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5796214&#5796214) and when I exited and it began to boot I saw it get stuck at mDNSResponder line prompt, repeating the line prompt every 5 seconds or so and never getting anywhere.
Then I found your post and changed permissions as you mentioned, exited and it booted up successfully. I then immediately ran Software Update and installed the Leopard 10.5.1 update and now all is well again.
Insane for this to be required. I barely know what single user means and would have sent this computer in to Apple if I hadn't found your solution.
Hopefully the next person who searches on this problem will find this and save themselves a horror story too. Thanks again.

  • Mic issue with Lenovo G710 laptop

I have a laptop Lenovo G710 which i have upgraded to Windows 10. The laptop has an inbuilt microphone.I'm going through the setup process with Cortana but my voice isn't being detected when getting Cortana to learn my voice.I have done following to try and fix it but it hasn't yet worked:
I checked in Device Manager and looked for Microphone(IDT High Definition Audio Codec) and it says Device is working properly when i go to the properties of it.The latest driver was installed 09/07/2015.
Secondly, I have tested the inbuilt microphone out by going into Control Panel, then going to Speech Recognition then click on Audio Devices and making sure that the microphone is enabled.
I then right clicked on it  Properties went to the Levels tab and increased the  Microphone level to 100. Microphone boost is set to the max level. If anyone can help me to fix this issue, it would be much appreciated.Kind Regards,

    Hey there,
I've been having the same problem for a long time now, seems like the IDT drivers for this model are fu**ed up somehow. No one ever responded to my problems. Don't expect anyone having a magical solution to this, unless someone from the Lenovo support really decides to dig deep. The newest driver is absolutely incompatible with Windows 10, even though it says it is. The mic works "fine" when listening to it through the recording devices properties, but never have I been able to make it work with Cortana, neither Skype! To temporarily solve this problem, until MAYBE a solution will come, I advise you to open Device Manager, and under Sound, video and game controllers, click right on the IDT High Definition Audio Codec, Properties, Driver, Update Driver, Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick from a list, and select High Definition Audio Device. Your sound will sound worse, after some restarts it will maybe even go almost mute (at 100% volume set EVERYWHERE application-wise, windows-wise it will sound like 30%, 40% before), but at least the microphone will work service-ably with Cortana or Skype.
Guys could any of the official support REALLY take a look at this problem? Seems that not just me has it. This is a serious issue to solve. Thanks! (whistles in the wind, becomes forgotten in a few days)
