Screen issues..HELP please!

I've only had my MacBook Air for 4 days now and the very first day the screen went crazy! The screen will flicker and then these horrible horizontal lines will appear and sometimes they are so bright I cannot even read the screen. It eventually goes back to normal but sometimes it lasts a really long time. This is my first Mac and I am not at all familiar with them, so I've been trying to figure out how to fix it on my own and I'm not really finding any help online. I just really wanna get it fixed so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

Contact Apple and get it replaced. Sounds like a hardware issue in the graphics circuit on the logic board.

You're probably running into the servers simply being swamped. Thousands of people are all going for the software update at the same time. Give it a try again and if that doesn't work, then try plugging it into your computer and trying it that way.
I didn't get a notion of the size, it doesn't seem to be as big as the 700 meg 5.0 update, but it did take me 20+ minutes to download via cable internet so it's a large file. That in and of itself takes a while.
If you're trying to download it directly to your iPhone, you'll need to be on wifi since I'm sure it's well over the 20 meg file size limit for 3G.

LR6 freezing on full screen. Help please?

I have just got LR6 (WINDOWS 64x). When I use the Full Screen (or F key shortcut) I cannot exit the full screen without using Task Manager (Ctrl/Alt/Delete)and ending task (ie, LR). When I do this LR closes without saving, or having the option to save, the catalogue. This is most frustrating and time wasting. Also now do not have the ability to view images on the full screen. LR6 works OK providing that I don't use the full screen option. I have also noticed that the image processing/loading is noticeably slower. My graphics processor checks out OK. Help please???

I'm sorry, but I am a bit out of ideas here.
I suppose the rest of your system like RAM is well enough too.
Does the Windows event log have any entry after the freeze? Too bad it's not BSOD - that would at least show a hint where the issue might be.
FWIW, I'd try with an older graphic card driver as well - you never know.

HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista black screen - need help please!

I have an HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista. Yesterday it was working fine and today we have the black screen that reads:

I am not a techie, but looked at online forums and have tried f10 at startup with no change to the screen other than it stops after the first four lines and does not try the floppy drive. I also pulled out the round battery, waited and then reintstalled. Same problem.
Also, computer emits a single, repeating beep after startup.

I saw your post and wanted to comment. I'm not an expert on these types of situations but did some digging around and found the following at Tips4PC.com.... read below
"There are two types of computer black screens that can appear in Windows. One where the computer will not boot up but you have a beep sequence sounding to let you know what the problem could be, and the other has nothing at all. No beeps, no cursor, no logo screen, and no choice to boot to safe mode or access the bios.
If your computer will not boot up and you get a beep sequence, I am not saying it is good news, however it is a step in the right direction towards solving this problem. This is a message from your computer that can be understood by looking up your bios (the brand) beep code. For example you may have an Award Bios, Ami Bios, Phoenix BIOS, Compaq, Dell, or Acer Bios. This list goes on and on. You can search for Bios beep codes in Google. Here is an example of results in Google search"

Also I went into the Troubleshooting Guide for the A6000 and found the following information. You need to use F11 for recovery. See below
Starting System Recovery from system startup

Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold the On button until the computer
turns off.

Remove the HP Personal Media Drive if your computer includes one. Disconnect all
peripheral devices from the computer except the monitor, the keyboard, and the
mouse.

Press the On button to turn on the computer.

During the startup, do the following to enter the Recovery Manager program:
When the blue screen with the HP Invent logo appears, press the F11 key on the
keyboard. (You have only a few seconds to press the F11 key before the normal
startup process continues.)

The computer starts the Recovery Manager program; wait for the onscreen instructions
to display, and then follow those instructions.

Complete the computer startup, finish the registration process, and wait until you see
the desktop. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on
the computer.

How do I retrieve photos/data etc. from my iPhone 4 before a completely erasing restore! It'stuck on a "connect to iTunes" to restore screen! Help please!!!

I connected my iPhone 4 to my PC to sync all my new info to iTunes/PC, but it said it was not able to recognize it and needs to do a complete restore! How do I retrieve photos from my iPhone 4 before a complete restore! It'stuck on a "connect to iTunes" to restore screen and won't do anything else! I tried rebooting the phone (holding the top button and the home button and the SAME "connect to iTunes" screen comes up. If I restore, I will lose ALL my unsynced photos, apps, and data from the past week (INCLUDING pics from a concert WITH band members!) Help please! MAYDAY! My prior backup does NOT contain these photos/apps/data! Ahh!!!!

I am having the same problems as this person. I see that someone said there is no way to retrieve the pictures once it gets stuck in recovery mode.
Then further along someone said that there are data retrieval methods except they have something to do with jail breaking a phone.
My phone is already jail broken. It was kind of a gift from the company I work for- it was a fellow employees before. He jail broke it and then it was given to me. After I got it I activated the 4 and tried to back up everything. It didn't work and "Springboard" forced the phone into safety mode. So I could use it with the old dude's apps and my contacts. I made the mistake of using the phone for wedding dress shopping with a friend. I took tons of pictures.
After this I found out the messages I was seeing meant it was jail broken. At&t said to force restore the phone - iTunes wouldn't recognize it in safety mode. I'm an idiot and didn't realize what this meant for my pictures. It didn't work (error 1611) - thankfully. Now it is stuck in recovery mode (iTunes icon and USB cable picture).
Can I access that media in any way? It never suceeded restoring itself so is it still there? The phone is jail broken already so is there a method I can use?

N97 screen cable =( help please!

my n97 that i absolutely LOVE wouldnt start the other day;
i figured it was coz it ran out of battery
after charging it and turning it back on,
the screen wouldnt turn on?
everything else was fine;
it made the nokia sound at the start
and the keys lit up also.
after looking at it;
i realised that the screen cable;
behind the screen; had snapped?!
is there anything i can do to fix this?
also;
if i have to take it to a store to get fixed..
how much and how long will it take?!
-i'd appreciate any help i can get. =)

If its hardware, I would definitely recommend that you take it to Nokia care center. I dont think that it is not covered by warranty since I cannot think of a situation normally when the cable would just snap.

Login Issues - Help please

Hi All-
I had to reinstall the OS system and now it is asking for a login. Not sure what it is-so I go back to the start up cd hold down C get to change password. Change password as system admin (root level). Quit installer and restart the mac. enter my name and the new password the screen shakes and drops out the password. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the info - Just a brief history on my problem.
I was trying to open an application on the mac and it froze - nothing would work. I powered down at the surge protector. restarted to have the mac hang on the grey screen with the apple. Let it sit for 15 min with nothing. Called and apple dealer near us and was told to reinstall the OS. I had to do an archive & install. I think I had 10.3.9 but the system cds were 10.3.1 or something like that. So reinstalled and you know where I am. SO, should I still restore the netinfo data base? Will this effect my network with others. I back up my HD to another mac at night and vicea versa.

N8 wlan and hard reset issues, help please

Have a nokia N8, after installing Connectivity analyser beta from beta labs, my wifi reception has become very poor. i ave a wireless N router and before this date the signal was very strong. my friend has an N8 also, he tested the rooms i was having signal issues to see if the router was the problem, however he had excellent signal, leading me to think it was my phone. i uninstalled the app and he weak signal remained, i did a factory reset and the problem remeained, i did a hard reset and the problem is still there, I now have the added problem of no Ovi Suite and other Qt related app issues. Help please, this is really annoying. btw this is my second N8, really getting annoyed at Nokia now. any further specs, please ask

As synth_fg rightly points out it takes quite a bit of tinkering to recover from "hard reset" on N8. To give you an idea what would be involved:-
Download from Ovi Store website the sis installer of WordPress and install it on phone (wordpress install also Nokia Smart Install and all QT and PIPS components)
Launch Ovi Store on phone: which will download the .sis installer and should work without any error
Reinstall Social_1_2_update.sisx from here: http://nmota.messaging.nokia.com/clients/Social_1_2_update.sisx
At this point you are still without OVI Maps but you can install v3.06 pre-release from Nokia Beta Labs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-306 which will allow you to pinch to zoom on your N8

Shift icon in the top right corner of screen? Help please

Hey everybody, I have a question here. I've been getting a random problem on my curve 9310, and was wondering if anyone else had the problem or knows how to fix it. In the top right corner of my screen there's an icon, and it looks like its the shift/caps key icon, just aA^ (up arrow). The touchpad works, and I can scroll around, but the touchpad button or the enter button to open an application does not work, nor do any of the other keys. If I pull the battery and restart the phone, its still been doing that, and if I don't touch it and the screen fades to black, when I touch the buttons, its like the phone is off. I had this problem earlier in the week and it fixed itself, but its been doing it again. Any ideas on whats causing this, or how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This icon in the top right corner you are seeing indicates that the caps lock has been enabled. If you press the shift button again, this should remove the icon from the top of the screen.

There is nothing to be done.
If the app requires a newer ios version then you have, then you cannot use that app.

64-bit Smart View + Excel 2010 64-bit Issues - Help Please

Hello everyone.
First, I am not an "IT guy" so please bare with me as I am not technical but need help.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit Professional and Excel 2010 64-bit. I installed Oracle Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition 64-bit as an add-in within Excel.
I have worked with our "Hyperion Admins" to connect to the right server so that my "private connections" are set correctly (hopefully that makes sense).
However, when I attempt to refresh my Smart View query I end-up retrieving no data. The "refresh" button under "Smart View" in Excel will proceed as a refresh is occurring but then not return data (I know this Smart View template works as I've used it many times on 32-bit Excel).
Our admins have informed me that I cannot use 64-bit Smart View because our "server" is on a 32-bit O/S (or something similar to that). To me, the logic doesn't make sense and I'm hoping that there is a solution the admins are not aware of.
Happy to answer any questions and appreciate any help.

When using Smart View (SV) with Microsoft Office 2010 SP1 some SV functions do not work or cause Excel application to crash.
Cause
In 64-bit versions of Excel 2010 SP1, the presence of Smart View functions may cause Excel to terminate abruptly and may prevent Copy Data Point and Paste Data Point functions from working. This has been identified as a defect in Microsoft product.
Solution
Use the 32-bit version of Smart View until Microsoft issues fix for their 64-bit Office products.

Compressor is having filter issues, help please!

Hi, please help if you have seen this problem or know how to fix... and thanks in advance!
I am exporting a QT to Compressor, and put a Noise Reduction filter on the file... But when I submit the export, an error message pops up:
Unable to Load Effects
The following effects could not be loaded:
Noise Reduction
These effects will not be applied. Please install the appropriate effects and re-open the project.
I haven't deleted anything, especially not these type of filters... I hope Compressor isn't corrupted or something. And it especially heartbreaking, since this is the LAST step of a 2 month DVD project!
Anyway, I'm praying someone knows the solution, or a way to re-install the filters... my software is far away at the moment!

Ouch. I believe your only option is to reinstall Compressor (since something within the program's code is hosed).
Since you don't have your discs accessible, your best bet is to go to the FCS download site and manually install the Pro Applications Update 2008-05 package. You'll need your FSC serial number handy (should be able to find that in the About window of any of the FCS apps. For instance: Compresor > About Compressor, from the menubar)
Just one caveat: in case you weren't on the latest updates (we all have our reasons for not upgrading) this will update your system. So please be mindful of any OS X/QT compatibility issues. Not mention bumping up the versions of your apps in this whole process.
But this is only an educated guess. Never come across this myself.

Macbook permission issues-Help please asap...

On my macbook there are no issues with administrator but with a normal user account there are. It started a couple of days ago and since I have tried all sorts of stuff but nothing works.
Basically I cannot save an image when I click on the option 'save image as...' I can only use the option 'save to downloads' when I try 'save image as..' this error comes up...
"The document “kate0802_302x322.jpg” could not be exported as “kate0802_302x322”. You don’t have permission. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info."
Also I cannot take any screenshots and this error somes up...
"Your screen shot can’t be saved. You don’t have permission to save files in the location where screen shots are stored."
Furthermore I cannot save documents this error appears...
"The document “Untitled” could not be exported as “work”. The file “/Users/Saira/Desktop/work.doc” couldn’t be found."
I have checked all the "get info.." sections and I have permission to read and write I also tried restarting the macbook as well as strating it up in safe mode but it still doesn't change the same errors appear. However this problem is only on one user and not on the administrator account or any other general users. So now I literally cannot do anything and I've tried and checked verything I know. Can anyone help me solve this annoying problem?

GREY SCREEN ISSUE HELP

help! i keep getting a grey screen saying my mac needs to be restarted its happend for the first time today and done it at least 5 times this is my business pc and is backed up but its only 18 months old i need help!

It's ok, you likely just have a incompatible at boot third party kernel extension file.
Reboot holding the Shift key down, and go around and update all your third party software, especially something you suspect or know may install something at boot time.
Big culprits are any always on anti-virus or the MacKeeper junkware, just uninstall these totally, it's really not needed, ClamXav is good enough to clean files off of Windows and not run all the time causing problems.
But because of 10.7.4 update could be any number of other things, VMFusion, Parallels or some other specialized software.
If that doesn't work, then simply #8 Reinstall Just OS X, it's rather painless too, that will do the trick and kick out everything in OS X, then all you have to do is reinstall a few pieces of software no longer working when they issue a update that works with 10.7.4
