Screen keeps blanking out

I have been experiencing a problem with my screen completely going blank of its own accord. I can still very faintly see the screen when it does this and the computer responds normally to commands. Using the brightness control button makes no difference (although I can faintly see the control responding on the). Putting hte computer to sleep and then waking it up sometimes helps, but only for a short period.
There are a few factors that seem to influence when this happens.
- if I plug anything into the USB port, it is guaranteed to dim
- The problem has only been occuring since I bought a new battery last week
- It doesn't happen when I have the computer plugged into the mains, only when I am running from the battery
Any ideas of what is causing this?

My iphone keeps blanking out and then when I press then home button it tells me the battery is dead. it has happened to me at 30%, but today it was at 71%, is there a fix for this?

This is often due to faulty battery. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for free quick battery diagnostic testing.

  • My screen keeps cutting out

My screen keeps cutting out and is very temperamental with at what angle the screen has to be at??

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Help! Screen keeps flipping out!

My screen keeps flipping out and scrolling by itself or clicking on things while I'm trying to scroll. It also spazzes out when I zoom. This has been happening for about a week every now and then. I try turning off my phone and turning it back on but it doesn't help sometimes. What do I do?

    Hello Paulinaav,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.
I recommend following these steps for an issue like this (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing and any other steps you may have taken):
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPhone before performing the restore:

it happens most when i'm scrolling/flicking up or down on the page...

    buj,
Try doing a hard reset of the phone and see if the issue continues:
Hard Reset: Hold Down the Home and Sleep button until you get a apple logo on the screen.
If the issue continues with safari on the iPhone, then you will need to restore the software on the phone.

  • Screen continually blanks out

I have a 20GB ipod, about four months old. Recently the screen has started blanking out randomly, and for long periods of time. It still plays music, but is practically impossible to use because the screen is so unpredictable.
Could it be something to do with the battery?

I've just noticed in another topic that the DVI output from Macs is 'exclusive' to Apple Cinema Displays, and can only be used with third-party display via a DVI - VGA adapter. This would make sense in relation to the other post on this subject elsewhere, where the poster talks about resolving the problem with the VGA adapter, although he thought this indicated the DVI cable was dodgy... I've not seen this issue coming up in any other discussion/post here or elsewhere where various third-party (and Dell) displays are discussed.
In addition to the circumstances listed above in my earlier post, I've now noticed that the problem is at its worse when viewing a web page with Flash content - constantly updating/changing animations and effects...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • Iphone screen keeps timing out while watching videos

HHow do I keep my iPhones screen from timing out when watching videos. I never had this problem until recently

try check your video player's settings. if that dosen't help, the worst thing you could do is to change auto-lock to "never" in phone's settings -> general.

  • Xperia Z3 screen continually blanking out

I was half way through writing a text message the other night and my screen had what could only be reffered to as a brown screen of death. I force restarted the phone and the Sony logo would start up before it went straight to a black screen. I could tell there was a back light behind it though. Eventually after turning it off and on about four times it started normally and I didn't have any further problems... for 24hrs.
When my alarm went off this morning I had the same screen of death and was only able to turn off my alarm by force restarting my phone. Now when i restart my phone I can usually get it to turn all the way on but then it randomly 'blanks out' after a few seconds. When this happens I can continually press the power button to get me back to my lock screen. Sometimes the screen will stay active long enough for me to unlock the phone, occassionally long enough to even read or write a message, but always, whether it be after 1 second or 20, it eventually blanks out where I can eventually start from the unlock screen after continually pressing the power button.
In a word, it's infuriating. I have already had to deal with two broken screens with this phone (both whilst just sitting in my pocket) that have cost about $350 each to fix and now this. I am definitely never going to buy Sony again however I need this phone to last until the end of my contract.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this without having to be without a phone for up to 5 weeks??

  • Tapping iPad (3) causes screen to blank out

My iPad(3/iOS~6+) has a really weird behavior: If I tap it in certain ways that are a little hard to describe -- for example, puttig ti down on a table, even really gently -- the screen blanks out! It still seems to be backlit, but nothing shows up on it. The machine is still on; the sound works fine and siri answers and works fine, but the screen is simply black! The only way to get it back on it to either hard-boot it, or, interestingly, to close and then re-open the magnetic cover. Is it possible that whatever it is that the magnetic cover triggers has become loose and is triggering when I tap it in certain ways? What should I do? Should I have the screen replaced?

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...

  • Full screen preview blanked out in from options in audio video settings?

    Hi all,
Am running FCP6 and have lost the option to preview fullscreen in the audio video settings menu. It is literally missing, as an option, though the space the option inhabited is still there. Only options I have are to preview via firewire to my CRT monitor. I have tried to refresh AV devices and all frames, but doesn't seems to help/work.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    -Tom

Hi David and thanks for your suggestion. I gave it a try and no luck. Its just the same. I have no options in video playback at all unless I connect my deck and then I have only the via firewire options, the deck provides. BTW, I know its the wrong forum, but I have the same blanking out situation in the output filed in MOTION.
Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • TS4088 Screen keeps blacking out Macbook pro 13'

Just got this little macbook this week and the screen keeps shutting down after a while (not sure how long exactly but usually around 30mins). I changed the settings to make sure it doesn't sleep ever yet after 30mins or so screen goes black and i have to close the screen and open it again and type my password and stuff. Anyone know why this is happening? I heard of this happening to other people with the macbook pro 15 but mine is the 13 and same thing seems to be happening.

Have you tried resetting the SMU?
Have you tried resetting the PRAM?

  • How do i refresh my ipad; it keeps blanking out?

I don't know how to refresh my ipad  please help  it keeps blanking out

  • Screen fades/blanks out

when i wake up my computer the screen will come to life and then go blank.  the computer is still on because i have to manually turn it off and restart.  sometimes it takes a couple restarts to get it back.  Once it faded out but most of the time it just goes black.  Any clues as to what is going on?  Anyone??

Does it only happen with Microsoft Office applications? Sometimes this can also be caused by a memory leak, occupying lots of system resources to the point that Microsoft Office needs to 'queue' the text up in the buffer for display, hence the partial blanking.
Check you task manager - does the Physical Memory Usage exceed 85%?
Rather than using System Update to check for the graphics driver update, go straight to Lenovo's support site to get the driver from there. There are some times where system update doesn't display updates when there's actually one. Compare the driver version on the support site against that in the device manager's display card properties page, and update if necessary.
If you are using Firefox Developer Edition without e10s (electrolysis mode) and running some flash based app memory leaks can be very common. There is currently no solution to this issue, there are workarounds however. Either don't run any flash-based apps, don't run Firefox Developer Edition at all, or downgrade to the stable release of Firefox.
Let me know if this helps, please mark the respective posts s a solution IF it has helped you to solve the problem. This will make it much, much easier for others encountering the same issue to get to their answer, avoiding any duplicate queries.
    Thanks!

  • Docking Station Screen keeps blacking out

So up until now, I've had no problem with the screen showing Time/charging status/Temperature when I dock the phone.  But yesterday the screen blacked out (okay, dark grayed out) and I don't know how to keep it from doing that...any hints?  Thanks

Okay...never mind.  New to this forum, and didn't bother to check the "solutions" list.  Found my answer there (brightness icon--that I couldn't see cause the screen was VERY gray).  Hope everyones questions are as easy to answer as mine was!!
