Screen not registering "touch"

So a couple weeks ago, I was using my iPod (1st generation touch) and the screen stopped registering touches. Meaning- I could return to the home screen, but I couldn't turn the iPod off control the music or anything. I put it aside and went back to it about half an hour later, and it was working again.
About a week ago it did the same thing- started working about forty-five minutes after the failure.
Today the screen stopped working, and its been four hours.
I've been putting off having the iPod looked at because I'm waiting to get a used Mac from a friend and bring them both in at once (since going to the Apple store is a half-day-long affair).
My question is: is this hardware or software? I've been putting off restoring it, since I don't want to wipe out the settings/music unless its absolutely necessary. Would this help at all, or should I just bring it in?

I restored the ipod, and it seems to be working again.
I'll probably bring it in next time I have to go to the Apple Store anyway.
Thank you!

  • What if the right hand side of my screen does not register touch?

what do I do if the right hand side of my screen does not register touch? I'm out of warranty also, what options do I have?

If part of the screen is not touch sensitive, and you have tried power off/on and reset, the best option is a visit to an Apple genius bar to have the techs check and see what is wrong with the screen and touch circuitry.

  • Macbook Pro Retina (July 2014) will not register TOUCH events when going through the AIR DEBUG LAUNCHER for MOBILE

I recently purchased a MACBOOK PRO with a retina screen and have started to transition to it as a primary work computer.
I have a game that is built on another Macbook Pro (non retina) that works fine in the AIR debug launcher for mobile but when I launch it from the RETINA device, the touch events seem to not register correctly.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

To further clarify, it appears the touch simulator is cutting everything in half, maybe because of the pixel density?

  • 2nd JFrame at Full Screen not registering key events

I've written an application that launches other applications distributed as JARs with a particular method (replacing the main method). These other applications run at full screen.
Whilst I have got these other applications to work in that they display correctly and do everything else, I require them to register key events. If I run these applications on their own (i.e. having not been launched by the primary application) then the key events are processed correctly. However when they are launched from the primary application the key events are not registered.
I have tried requesting focus from the full screen JFrame but it doesn't seem to be able to.
    Any ideas?

Possible that the keystrokes are really being trapped by the other gui, which stops registering them when it's not visible.
IF that's the case, you'll need to re-design your keyboard trap as part of the second JFrame, wholly independent of the original JFrame or originating app. Also, it may be thread-starved i.e. operating off the originating program, which thread may be stopping when it has no focus.
That's all the ideas I have.

  • Part of screen not working - bottom of screen not registering.....

    Hi all,
The screeen on my 3GS is completely un-responsive at the very bottom of the screen - for about half a centimetre from the bottom ( near the home button).  As a result I can't, for example, swap from letters to numbers on the keyboard when it comes up (that is the bottom button) etc etc.   When I press on that section, it tends to 'register' on a space higher above, on the next 'key' up, when using the keyboard.
It seems the register is all out.
I have tried opeing maps and checking each corner and using the keypad on the calculator ( to see where it won't work) but to no avail.
I have done a shutdown, a re-start, a restore from archive and now a restore as a new phone, and nothing has chnged the situation.  Except for the fact that I now can't even set up my phone, as in the set up process I need to be able to use the buttons at the bottom of the screen ( eg agreeing to the T&C's as well as using the keypad ( and swapping to numbers) to link into wi fi etc.  And yep, this area is stll not registering hence I can't move forward in the new phone set up process....
So in short I am stuck.
Any thought people?  Any of you got any clever ideas to help me out?
Thanks in advance for your info.

did you get a answer to this question my iphone 4s is doing exactly the same things jus updated it but cant sign in cuz i cant get any numbers up when im typiing!!!

  • Upper screen not recognizing touch

The upper part of my iphone 4S screen is not recognizing touch.  For example: I cannot touch the top listed item in any list.  I have restored the iphone once, but the problem is still occuring.  It seems like a hardware problem.  Are there any software solutions for this problem?

If you restored the iPhone and choose "restore as new" and the issue persist then it is a hardware issue and the only way to fix it is to replace the iPhone at the Apple Store or by calling AppleCare (800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273)) and replacing by mail.

  • Touch screen not registering my touch!

Once my iPod boots up it doesn't sense my touch. Nothing happens when i got to slide the button to unlock. The menu and power buttons work and i can restart it but that doesn't help at all. After looking around the net a while and restarting it multiple times i decided to restore the firmware. That did nothing. I think my touch screen is shot, please tell me im wrong or i can get it fixed for free. I am still under warranty.

    I am still under warranty.
Wow, you can get people warranties now!?
Anyway, hopefully your iPod touch is still under warranty too, so just take it back to where you bought it. If it's a hardware fault it will be fixed or replaced for free.
Go to the page below to check the warranty status and your options for repair or service.

  • TX: Tiny portion of screen not registering.

I've only had my TX for a few months and have always had a screen protector on my TX's screen and have never dropped it.  Thinking that the screen protector was just worn out, I changed it this morning, hoping that would be the answer.  I cleaned the screen, did the whole business card/paper thing around the perimeter, and put the new one on.    No luck.
What's worse is that it's smack in the middle of the "letters" side of my Graffiti area.
I turned the screen to horizontal mode to use the notepad to show the problem area.

This is what it looks like after one "pass" over the area.

This is what it looks like after multiple passes.
I can't use Graffiti to write my notes anymore. Any idea of what I can do to fix it?  It seems that it will register only if I write REALLY slow and push down with a bit more pressure than needed.  But I really don't want to do that...  Also, that little area doesn't feel "smooth" like the other areas of the screen.  I don't know if that is the fault of the screen protector or not.  What are the chances of having a defective screen protector in the same area twice in a row?
    Thanks for any replies...

    Post relates to: Palm TX

Your digitizer has failed, and no software will repair its functionality.
Your choices are a warranty repair by Palm (call the number above to get it started), or doing it yourself.
Cost of a warranty repair is one-way insured and trackable shipping from your location to Texas (Priority Mail, Insured cost me about $13 each time).  I have two TXes, each of which has had at least one digitizer repaired/replaced under warranty.  They each failed in the same area where yours failed.  I got tired of repeatedly spending the money to ship to Texas only to have the next digitizer fail in 2 months and do it all over again, so I did the self-repair on both of them and never looked back.  Anther down-side is that you will be out the use of your TX until you get it back...maybe a couple of weeks though it should be quicker than that.
Doing it yourself will cost $40 for a new glass-backed digitizer from http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PA1693&Category_Code=DIG along with the cost of a T5 Torx driver (found mine at Sears for a few bucks) and shipping.  The site also has a take-apart video.  Other excellent user threads on the subject are available on the forums at www.brighthand.com with tips and pix of the process.  These digitizers are way superior to the OEM digitizers in the TX...better response and feel, and not prone to failure like yours and mine experienced.   I did both of my TXes in about an hour (the first one took about 45 minutes because I was nervous and went very slowly; the second one was 15 minutes).  Basically, to borrow a phrase, it's so easy "a caveman could do it".
The self-repair route will void the balance of your TX's warranty, however.

  • Not registering touch

My iphone 5 doesn't always register that I've touched a certain part of the screen. For instance: I can't type in the search field for Google Images and currently can't type in the reply section for a text message. Anybody know what's going on?

Reset your phone, you wont lose anything. Hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up.

  • Ipod touch not registering touch

the screen on  my ipod touch isnt registering gestures at all. is there anyway to diagnose /  fix this? will a full reset cure it?

You are on the right track. Try in order:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPOd from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod not registering touches

So I updated to 1.1.4 and haven had numerous problems with the iPod part of my phone. It I can use all my other apps just fine, but when I click on Ipod it takes me to the "More..." screen. At this point it won't respond to any touches. Can't go into the Podcasts section or click on any of the lower navigation menu items like "Videos"
It also doesn't respond to me clicking on the "Edit" button in the upper left corner. When the screen dims after sitting for a minute, i can touch the screen and it responds to that, but can't interact with any of the iPod stuff on the screen. I have tried rebooting, resynching, and using other apps (which all work perfectly) and then go back to the iPod with the same problem.
    any suggestions?

Still happens, can't figure why, may have to take it in. It only seems to happen randomly and will work fine for a while then stop. I sync it every morning and some mornings it works and some it doesn't, then occasionally it will just start working again and I have no idea what I did.

  • Occasional problem with the lower part of screen not recognizing touches??

Has anyone else had a problem when sliding the bar to unlock the phone or occasionally not being able to access symbols on the keyboard?

This OS (4.2.1.) often locks up for seconds on end. Never happened previously. It becomes completely inert at times. It has made the UI no longer feel transparent. It's now click and wait... Rubbish.

  • Not registering screen touches but device otherwise seemingly functionable

The problem is that it does not register any touches on the screen, though all buttons work fine. So I can turn it on and also do the shutdown, Home+Off button but can not Slide it to activate.
I had this problem before where I thought it had completely failed and order a return service from Apple. Ironically, the day the UPS package arrived, I tried it again and it worked until yesterday, several months later.
While I had no clue what happend the first time, I have an better idea this time. I was browsing with Safari when it crashed and froze the screen. Pressing home quit Safari after a while but from here, it stopped registering touches. After a hard reset, I was able to activate it and got to the home screen, I suspect my mistake was in re-entering Safari which again froze and stopped registering touches. Since then I have not been able to Touch anything regardless of any number of hard resets.
I suspect it started working the last time after it had been without use for a while causing a completely battery drain and this is what I'm attempting now. Though a bit difficult with the activation screen only showing for a few seconds and the last bits of juice requiring turning it on every third second.
I have been unable to find any postings of this problem on the forums or Google. Perhaps not using the right description.
I hope to hear from anyone with knowledge of this problem.

    Dud...
To perform a 'hard reset' (in the Apple OS) is to Apple>Shut Down and then restart, A 'soft reset' would be Apple>Restart
Typically, only a 'hard reset' clears the memory.
With the touch OS Apple says:
If something is not working right, restarting or resetting iPod touch will likely solve the problem.
Restart iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPod touch. To turn iPod touch back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the
same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
So it sounds like a touch Restart is what I would call a 'hard reset' and a touch Reset is what I would call a 'soft reset'.

  • Touch Screen Registering Touches When Not Being Touched

I am having touch screen problems with my Acer Iconia W700-6821. There are three points along the bottom of the screen (bottom meanng the edge closest to the Windows button) that are registering "touches" when nothing is touching the screen. Two of the spots are about midway between the middle of the screen and the left edge; the third is near the lower right corner. When rotating the device, so that the windows button is at the top, the points registering the phantom touches remain at the same physical points on the device, so they are then at the top of the display. Several "touches" register per second. Device Manager reports that the touch screen is working properly. To troubleshoot, I have tried: cleaning the screen, rebooting (both cold and warm reboots), updating the display driver, updating the touch screen driver, disabling and reenabling the touch screen and recalibrating the touch screen. The problem initially occured while running Windows 8.1, but I have since upgraded to Windows 10 and the problem has persisted. I am currently using the device with the touch screen turned off, as it is virtually unusable with it enabled.I would appreciate any guidance anyone can offer in resolving this issue. Thanks

It's possible for a cable to work loose over time, but I can't think of a scenario where a loose cable would give your symptoms. If you are under warranty it's time to contact Acer support, if you are out of warranty then you might open it up just to verify things are all plugged in solidly. I'm guessing the problem will be between the digitizer and the display, but I don't know how easy that'll be to fix other than a replacement.

  • My screen wont register that i touch it. help?

i spilt orange juice on my ipod. i immediately wiped it off and put in rice. later i was advised to put it in the freezer so i did. the buttons work fine, when i click the home button to unlock it it will light up, but it's like the screen isnt registering that im touching it. it has revious water damage and i recetly had the cracked screen replaced. help?

Since Apple did not service your device, you might have to buy a new one. You may try to see if Apple still exchanges it for the service fee, after all what happened to your device: Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
Who told you to put it in the freezer?
