Screen only capable of default resolution 1024x768, generic screen model

After installing a Windows Update for the Macedonian euro symbol and rebooting (coincidence I assume as I have done a system restore to undo it) my G72 laptop sees the screen as a generic PnP model and can only use a resolution of 1024x768 or less which is then stretched sideways as this is a widescreen screen.
I have updated drivers, downloaded the HP drivers and installed them, but no change.
Running Win 8.1 64bit.
Any ideas?
THanks

HI @cirrushp
Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a fantastic  place to find answers and suggestions!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that you did a  MIcrosoft system restore  and now you can only use resolution of of 1024x768  which is less than before.  You have updated the HP drivers it is still only but the display is being seen as a generic PnP model .
Have you tried using the Windows troubleshooter to overcome this difficulty.
If you have downloaded the graphic drivers try this,
Go to Device Manage
Right click on the Display adapter and delete the existing driver
Now browse and select the downloaded driver from HP and reinstall.
Have you tried running the Windows troubleshooter ?
As this is Windows 8 you could also try the refresh option.
Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8)
Next you could try installing the original drivers using the Recovery Manager.
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8
The last suggestion other then contacting HP support for assistance is to do a full recovery back to factory.
Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)
During the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.  If you have not already done one now would be a good time.

  • Default Resolution of new image

For other reasons I have to do a lot of preference-trashing, opening PS with Shft+Ctrl+Alt to delete the preferences file. What I am finding is that the default resolution of a new file is only 72 dpi.
WFound the place where screen and print resolutions are set. I have both set at 300 dpi. Still, when I create a new image the resolution is only 72.
Would you please show me where the default resolution of a new document is set.

File>New look for resolution and type in 300. As long as you don't select a preset, the 300 ppi will stick even if you close photoshop. This should be true for all versions, but I can only test in CS5.

  • Setting the default resolution for sap logon

    Hi, ALL!
I'm terribly tired of SAP interface. It's so uncomfortable for work.
For example maybe you know khow to set the default resolution for sap logon to make it use its widgets of proper size. e.g. when i work with transfer rules, it has only half of screen for useful area (i use 1400x1050), and right part is just empty, but on the left very many small fields and you should constantly use scrollbars (i think you know it well). Maybe there is system customizing for this purpose.

    Hello Dmitry,
There is no customizing for this - atleast to my knowledge.
However, you should have to redo the settings again and again unless you are continuously re-sizing the main window.
    Cheers

  • Changing default resolution on XVR-100

For the life of me I cannot find out how to fix this.
I have a XVR-100 installed in a V440. I am unable to administer it via our KVM because the default resolution is way to high. When I change it, it of course screws up the screen and I have to reboot. fbconfig is not setting my desired resolution as the default.

That resolution is unsupported for me. How do I tell oenwindows to use 1024x768 with a 60hz refresh?
    Thanks

From the provided information, I cannot tell whether you are using the HD15 or the DVI port. Furthermore, it is somewhat unusual to be using pfb1 unless you have more than one XVR-100 installed.
By default, the system will probably be looking at /dev/fb. Let's get the Sun to redo the video devices (this will trigger a reboot). Do this as root:
    rm -rf /dev/fbs; rm /dev/fb*; touch /reconfigure; init 6
Do not try to use devfsadm for this step! Do the reboot!
When the system comes up, you should have a newly discovered video tree with your XVR-100 as the default video card pointed at by /dev/fb. If you have multiple video cards then you have more complex commands, but I am going to move forward assuming the simple case of one video card using HD15. If you are using a DVI connection or have more video cards, make appropriate changes to the following (PS: I do not read these boards often so you cannot count on me responding to a follow-up).
Let's set the video mode first. Do this as root:
    eeprom output-device=screen:r1024x768x60
fbconfig -res VESA_STD_1024x768x60 try nowThe screen will get distorted, but as long as you get a screen, agree to take the setting and reboot the system. When the system returns, you should have the lower resolution. This probably does not solve your (implied) color problem, though.
To fix the color we need to change the configuration DT configuration. I am assuming that you have no configuration for DT. These steps may obliterate an existing configuration.
    mkdir -p /etc/dt/config
cp /usr/dt/config/Xservers /etc/dt/configModify the last non-blank line in /etc/dt/config/Xservers by appending this to the end:
-dev /dev/fb defdepth 24The modified line would look something like this:
:0   Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner -dev /dev/fb defdepth 24Reboot the system again and when it comes up, everything should be fine.

  • Change default resolutions provided by ML

    Hi folks,
I'm having an issue at the office that kind of upset me. Basically, PC users laungh at Mac user not being able to display correctly on plasma's meeting room.
They have a native resolution of 1280x768 and this is basically what I want to use.
The problem is that this resolution is not proposed by the system in Monitors. Why is that ? My thought is that the TV is connected through VGA then YUV components cable, and that wouldn't surprised me the EDI informations does not make the way to the mac to announce supported resolutions, so the mac sees a "VGA Display" and proposes a set of default resolutions, this is what I'd like to adjust.
I was able to do this with SwitchResX but I can't ask every mac owner to buy a software to use an external display... those guys are gonna laugh harder !
The TV is a Pioneer pdp-505-cmx
Changing the connection to the screen is not an option, the cable passes from behind the wall to the floor and the meeting room table to a VGA connector.
Please answer if you really know what you're talking about and avoid "Open System Preferences and choose a resolution" !

Thanks... I don't know how that helps me tho !
I don't know hos windows is able to determine a correct resolution, but it can, and it works like a charm !
I still need to send the right resolution to the plasma, and rectangle shaped pixels in plasma monitor is not uncommon at all !
I should add that I tried every resolution provided by Mac OS X and none of them looks right (either pixelized, shaggy, wrong aspect ratio and so on...)
The only thing that worked is sending 1280x768 using SwitchResX. Even the aspect ratio looks good to me.
Here are the spec of the monitor :

  • Max resolution 1024x768?

    Hello,
I have a LenovoThinkPad T61 (14.1" model), and the maximum resoltion seems to be only 1024x768. Is there any way I can upgrade this by installing new drivers or something?
I seem to be using Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile, if this helps.

What's your model number? It's in the form of 2888-JBN and you can find it on a sticker under your computer. A lot of the 14.1" 4:3 screen models of T61 came with 1024x768 (XGA)-resolution

  • IdeaPad S10e, How to recover default resolution?

I opened "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver For Mobile". Then I adjusted some resolution because I was adding some USB TV tuner to the computer and when the application was started, the application told I should choose resolution 800x600 or better. When I chose this, I found out the windows does not fit into the screen anymore. Now the problem is that the default resolution for this laptop can not be recovered anymore. How can it be done?

    Hi
I got one Ideapad S10 but SetS10e.exe and setxga.exe on the desktop utility does not work. Have you any idea?

It might be worth asking for them.

  • Non-default resolution problem

I understand that the default resolution for the MacBook is 1280 x 800. I find this hard to read (my eyes are rather old) and would like to set 1152 x 720 but this gets somewhat blurry, letters are not sharp, etc. like it is slightly out of focus. Is there any way to make a lower resolution look as sharp as the default?

This is the problem with LCD monitors. The way the pixels are set up on LCD's their is only one good resolution for it. Unfortunately the multi task people want more desktop room and so the resolutions have been going up. You can however go in and increase text size through Universal access in system preferences or if it's just Safari you want you can limit how small of font to render their too.
As far as resolution your stuck with the native resolution of the monitor unless you want a bit of the fuzziness that goes along with a different one.

  • Why does user_pref("capability.policy.default.Location.href", "allAccess"); no longer work in FireFox 4? How can I re-enable this feature?

On upgrading to FireFox 4 from 3.6.15, I noticed that my capability.policy.default items in the prefs.js file were no longer working (the custom site that I run locally needs access to this attribute, amongst others) - how can I go about returning this feature back on?
    Example CAPS entry:
    user_pref("capability.policy.default.Location.href", "allAccess");
I've had to downgrade again to 3.6.15 until I can get this to work.
Tested on Windows XP (SP3), and using existing/new profiles in FF 4.0 and using prefs.js and user.js - nothing can get the Javascript code to read the location.href and getting an error generated in the error console.
Also tested on Mac OS X 10.6.7 with FF 4.0 - still no luck getting capability.policies to work.
    Please help...

I've been beating my head against this problem for a few hours, and I finally solved it. I'd been trying to set a capability policy using the "magic" default policy, and nothing would work - I could disable properties and functions of the Window object, but not the Location object.
It turns out that if I set a custom policy name, and named the specific sites I wanted the policy to apply to, it works! The only hitch is that you'll have to build a whitelist of sites that are allowed to have this kind of access, instead of allowing any site to access it by default. I think this is prudent security policy, in order to prevent XSS attacks.
So, for your case, instead of this:
    user_pref("capability.policy.default.Location.href", "allAccess");
    use this instead:
    user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "hrefaccess");
    user_pref("capability.policy.hrefaccess.sites", "http://example.com http://www.example.com");
    user_pref("capability.policy.hrefaccess.Location.href", "allAccess");
I haven't tested this code, but a similar implementation for my problem did the trick. I hope this helps!

  • ITunes ONLY capable with iPods?

I'm not trying to sound stupid or anything, but is iTunes only capable with iPods? What about Zen V Plus? That's what I have...

I bought a ipod nano for my wife yesterday, and I have a ipod photo 60gig. I like the feature of the screen lock that they have added along with the clock/clocks. There is also the lap timer that is a neat thing for those of us that like to listen to our ipod's while we workout.

    Solved.
    I had to enable KMS
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … Setting.29
    and remove my xorg.conf file.

  • 24" Imac only showing 2 display resolution options

Within the past week something changed after running a Mac software update that resulted in only having 2 display resolution options. The display choices now are limited to 1900 X 1200 and 960 X 600.  I think this happened after having a Mac software update.  I don't know what the updates were other then they were suggested as part of the automatic software updates check.
Running OS X Lion version 10.7.4.
Graphics =  NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128 MB.
I have rebooted and checked for additional updates put still only seeing 2 choices.
Is anyone else having this problem or ideas why all the other resolution options disappeared?
    Thanks

Thanks for quick response. I looked as suggested but those listed are older issues and not recent new events.  I guess I will sit back and see if there is a new update coming that fixes issue.  Really madding not being able to re-set resolution to one that I have been using for years.
If anyone else knows background/input on why resolution options would go from at least if not more then 10 to now only having 2 would be great.
    Thanks again.

  • Outlook 2007/2010 only prints to default printer

We use the following command to add network printers to XP PCs' (this saves each user of the PC having to find and install the network printer themselves)
    rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n\\machine\printer
This adds the printer for all users of the PC, however Outlook 2007/2010 only allows the user to print to the default printer, regardless of which printer the user selects.
When printing from Word/Excel or any other application the print goes to the selected printer.
Has anyone else had this problem, and found a solution, or know why Outlook only prints to default but other office applications print to other printers correctly ?
    Thanks
    Steve

I am having a similar issue to ferdz2013.
I am running terminal services on server 2008 R2.  This is in a domain environment, the user has permissions to the color printer in question and can print to it using Word and notepad.  However in Excel, it will not print to the color printer.
Even if I select the color printer as the default printer, it only prints to another BW printer.  In fact, there are .......
Well, as I was writing this, after troubleshooting it for an hour, it fixed itself.  I was going into his control panel to count the network printers installed (about 5) of which he could only choose from 2 in excel. Suddenly, he has only
two installed.  We can print to it, but we can't choose color now.
I believe this is a domain controller issue, where he is attached to one DC, and I am attached to a second DC, where I change the AD permissions.  It took an hour for them to exchange this information.
Just something else to think about.
Now I need to figure out why he can only select BW.

  • Can I change the default resolution to minimize buffering?

Can I change the default resolution to minimize buffering?

This is a function of the server and content, not the player itself.  You'll have to do this through the different video players (YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, etc.)

  • I can't create a native android app with 2560x1600 rendition. I only see the 2048x1536 and 1024x768 option in the web native Android application ?

    Hello All,
i ve created a native android app. I need to publish on a 2560x1600 android tab. the problem is that in my library i have my 2048x1536 and 1024x768 ipad version.
I know that when i create my native Android app i should be able to chose my rendition in only 2560x1600 but in the Library Tab of de web android native app builder I only see the 2048x1536 and 1024x768 option.
Please do you have an idea ?
    TX

The dropdown only lists the folio sizes you have published in your app's publication account. Make sure you've actually published a 2560x1600 folio and then you'll be able to select it from the dropdown.
