Screen only lights up when charging.

What would cause the screen of a BlackBerry to stay dark? When a call is received the screen stays dark. My friend can answer the call with his Bluetooth. The only way to get the phone to light up is to plug it in to the charger. Once he unplugs the phone it goes back to the dark screen. He used the phone yesterday and everything was fine. Is there a setting that might have been pushed while the phone was in his pocket?

I would check settings/options/screen/keyboard options and check backlight brightness and timout.

I can still receive calls etc and can see a 'backlight' come on behind the black screen when buttons are pressed, but I can not see anything on the screen. Look in the dock and see if you can see any scaly blue-ish stuff. Look in the headphone jack under bright light - can you see anything pink?
Take it to an Apple store. They can help you with a repair. If you take it anywhere else, Apple will not repair your phone if anything goes wrong.

Custom splash screen only shows up when command line is used...

Hi,
Everything in my Java web start application works perfectly but, the custom splash screen only shows up when command line is used ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin>javaws -verbose http://www.xxx.eu/AcSentVivresCrus/AcSentJnlp/AcSent.jnlp"), if I use the shortcut on the desktop or in the start menu, the Java 7 splash screen shows up (tested under Windows Vista and Seven). Does someone have any clues?

I made some researches :
- The link in the generated shorcuts ("C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe -localfile -J-Djnlp.application.href=http://www.xxx.eu/AcSentVivresCrus/AcSentJnlp/AcSent.jnlp "C:\Users\Arnaud\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\46\69c1e9ee-1f252d1a") is not the same as the one I use in the command line ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin>javaws -verbose http://www.xxx.eu/AcSentVivresCrus/AcSentJnlp/AcSent.jnlp"). Is there a way in the the JNLP file to tell how to generate shortcuts (not the icon, etc., but command line options)?
- This sample (https://blogs.oracle.com/thejavatutorials/entry/changing_the_java_web_start) displays the splash screen when I click on the the generated shortcuts (I use Windows 7). I have copied the ButtonDemo jar file and the JNLP file on my IIS web server (Windows 2008 Server), this time the splash screen does not show up when I click the generated shortcuts but always shows up when I use the command line. Can someone tell me if it is a trouble with IIS ?

How can I prevent the S5's screen from coming on when charging completes?

I got my S5 today and it seems to have a "feature" that will be very damaging to the OLED display. When it's done charging, the screen comes on and stays on. I've been going through all the settings I can find and don't see anything that will prevent this. Since static images burn into OLED screens, this is the last thing I want. It's done the same thing several times. My old phone (Galaxy Nexus) didn't do this. When the Nexus finished charging, it did so with no fanfare. The screen stayed off.
When the S5 is locked and the screen is off, there's no reason for the screen to come on for anything short of a phone call. It certainly shouldn't come on and stay on just because the battery finished charging. And, any time the display does come on without user input, it should turn off again automatically if it's idle for the length of the screen timeout.
I've got "Smart stay" turned off and "Screen timeout" set to 1 minute but, after it self-activates, it stays on indefinitely. I've let it go for 20 minutes and the screen is still on. How can I fix this? If I can't get this behavior to stop, it's going back to the store. I'm not paying $600 plus tax to have my lock screen burned onto my phone because I charge it at night.

Okay I've tried safe mode. Let it run down to 98%, plugged it in, locked the screen, and waited. A few minutes later, the screen came on showing the 100% icon at the top right, full battery icon just to the left of the time, 100% text to the left of that.
I'm not going to do a hard reset until I have confirmation that this is not normal behavior for the phone because that's going to take hours of my time and gigabytes of data transfer to get all of my media and apps back on the phone and configured.
After all my griping, I do have to give credit where it's due. This phone is much more efficient than my Galaxy Nexus. I left the S5 running in WiFi hotspot mode while on battery last night. It still had over 50% left on the battery. The Galaxy Nexus would be stone dead after about 4 hours. I can live with that if I have to but I'd really rather be able to leave it on the charger at night.

Slate 21 Pro screen back light on when sleeping

Hi James_caI found out a couple of days ago that our service inventory had not yet been updated with the new Scalar FW revision. I suspect that at some time you will experience the same issue...just a matter of when. I'm sorry if I was not clear in my earlier instruction. I should know more tomorrow about when our service inventory will be ready. Rest assured that if you experience the issue again, the next replacement will be correct. I have Slate 21 Pro. It is awsome all in one desktop with Android system. However it has the problem with sleep mode. Say I press power button to put it into sleep mode. The light on the power button change to red from white. But at some point, could be a couple of minutes or one hour, the screen back light will turn on though the screen is still dark (nothing displays). And at this time, the light on the power button will become white. And the worst thing is it'll never go back to sleep mode once it is in this state. I used a Electric Meter to test the power comsuption. At running time (when I use it and power button light in white), it consumes aournd 26 watts. At sleep time(power button light in red), it comsumes around 5 watts. At the state of dark screen with back light on ( the problemmatic state I describe above), it comsume almost the same as running time around 24 watts. This is too bad for an Android device. Though I'm able to pay the bill, but why should we waste energy and money? I report the problem. HP sent me another one. But the same problem there. I guess it is caused by the latest OS update. HP really should fix this. Does anyone has this issue? I'm so supprised that no one report this issue.

Connect the iPod to your computer and charge it for at least an hour and then try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer. If it asks for an passcode and you do not know it place the iPod in recovery mode to bypass the the passcode. For recovery mode see:

Macbook Screen has light spots when viewing dark background

So I just got a new macbook for my birthday about 2 weeks ago, and I've noticed that at the top of my screen there are two identical lighter areas that make the screen look like it's bent, when it is not. I can only see these two spots when I'm viewing a black or dark image in full screen mode. I'm wondering if this is fixable or if Apple can replace the screen.I have not exerted any force on it, and it was noticeable when I got it, but it has gotten slightly worse. It's not a huge issue, just irritating when viewng movies etc.

it is definitely possible to have a bum screen. i had a similar situation with my macbook, except it was a darkened area on the right side of the screen.
take it back to an apple store and they will replace your computer for free since the screen is considered an inoperable area for the apple techs there. just make sure you schedule and appointment at your local store with the Genius Bar before you go, else you may be waiting in line for a long time.

Hi. I'm having quite an issue here. My macbook screen is only lid when i boot and when i adjust the brightness of the screen (going all the way down and up from there). either way it goes black again after a few seconds. External monitor works though.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

I buy the dirty theory as well. plug and unplug a whole bunch of times - you may be able to dislodge whatever is causing the issue. Also - make sure the plug is fully seated - (some of the pad jacks are vert tight, and you really have to work them in). I gather you are out of warrenty? Blow in the hole.
last resotr - take a toothpick, dip the end in fingernail polish, get rid of the xs, then very very gently, insert the pick and try to rub the contacts. very gently as you do not want to bend them.

N97 screen not lighting up when message recieved, ...

i have a debranded n97 unlocked, latest firmware v20.0.019, and i don't know whats happened,
i basically have disabled the auto key lock, and i used a security lock after 1 minute, 20 seconds my light goes out,
anyway after a couple of minutes, if i get a text my breather light comes on only (which is normal) however the main backlight does not come on, it used to do this before, what is the problem? ive not got any apps on my phone either, i use the phone memory for everyhting, contacts, messages, etc. i have 2 email accounts + 400 messages in my main inbox,
i dont know why the main backlight wont light when i get a message, this is doign my head in as sometimes i keep my phone on my desk and the lighting up of the backlight makes me notice the phone has a message, i cant keep on going on like this, anyone know why this is or am i going to have to do a f/w wipe and update again?
can someone please test this ?? im using no third party sw either

Unfortunately, I'm facing the same problem with my N97 using firmware v20.0.19.
Any reset, hard or soft, did not solve the problem.. It's a new bug..

Screen keeps lighting up when locked?

My phone will be sitting there locked and the screen will randomly light up every couple of minutes or so and I cannot for the life of my figure out why?
I never had this with my 3G and I'm pretty stumped. Any ideas?
I have a genius appointment regarding my yellow/brown blobs in a few days time so I can ask then, just thought I would try here first incase anyone else is experiencing this?

It could be a couple of things. Try closing any open apps (double click home button, press and hold on an app, click the minus symbol) and see if the issue persists. You can also test turning off push notifications for everything (Settings > Notifications) and then turning each one back on one at a time to see if a particular app using Push is the problem.

Your update 33.0 is not compatable with Norton antivirus and the screen only turns black when trying to open firefox. Please help

Please see question. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but with no success. Chrome and Int. Exp both work fine, but nothing comes up but a black screen covering most of my monitor in Firefix.

Sorry but it is always the other way. Norton needs to update their Firefox extension to work with the new major version Release so it can tie in with their antivirus client.
The good news is that Norton as usual has a live-update patch for Firefox 33.0 which was available on October 13, the day be fore Firefox 33.0 was Released.

Xperia S does not turn on, red light when charging.

My phone, after spending a day on a boat, was low on battery (this was 2 hours after leaving on the drive home). It went from 6% battery to shutting down completely in a matter of seconds. I plugged it into my car charger immediately, but it has not turned on since. Previously i have had problems with the headphone jack not recognising if earphones were plugged in or not, but this usually resolved within a few minutes. On top of this i have once struggled to turn the phone on due to i believe a once off problem with the power button.
Recently the headphone jack has been playing up a lot more than usual, but it never resulted in this. I have never experienced any other problem with the phone. PROBLEM: Once it turned off, I have been unable to restart my phone. When charging it shows a dull red light like when charging less than 15% battery. I have charged it now, on and off using multiple different charges for 6 hours, and have left it on its original charger as i write this. The power button plus volume up has no effect. There is no vibrations when i turn on the device. The screen which usually loads something when charging, has not displayed anything since turning off. It does not connect to either an apple or windows computer with a usb cable, volume down key depressed or not. It does not get hot to touch while charging, and i remember according to AVG that the battery quality that day was "good". After 6 hours of charging, the red light is still there(and usually a full charge after 1.3 hours, leaves a green light) Put simply, the only responce of any kind i get from the phone is a red light when charging. What have i done? recharged the phone for 6 hours, tried power button, restart button combo, usb connection with both an apple and windows computer, i also put it in rice in case there was any water but did not change anything. anything changed? after 2 hours of charging on the wall, the red light disapeared... tried the above, nothing happened, unplugged the phone then replugged it in... red light. I will try to get it repaired shortly along with a broken PS3, but i would rather a solution, as both my work and social life heavily depend on it. thankyou in advance

If you have given it a good charge and still have no luck, I would advise running a software repair. This can be done with the phone powered off:
1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

Screen only light-up light grey after internal clean-up of the computer. External screen does work fine.
Before opening and cleaning (heatproblems) the laptop the screen did work ok. What could be wrong.

I think I know what could be wrong with your internal display.
The issues description sounds like FL inverter would be faulty.
The FL inverter is a tiny part hidden in the display frame.
The technician should be able to replace it.
Therefore contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling.

Livecycle visible(screen only) not working

I am working on a form in Livecycle es2. I have a number of text boxes and drop down menus which I
dont want to be printed hence I have set their visibility to Screen Only. However, when i print them, they

I've take look to your form and haven't found out how to put relevant "-print" to be working. I've noticed that your form is a static form which could be the reason why it is not working.
To work around this issue, I suggest you to use the prePrint and postPrint events of the objects and make them invisible for when it is printing and the set it back to visible.
