  • HT4814 Weird connection problems on clean mountain lion installation.

When I first installed Server, I wanted to see if it would work before going through all the effort to prepare my other mac.  So I ran it locally.
Now my other mac is all ready to go, but Server.app, simply would not log on to the other mac, even though I could get to it with the same credentials over ssh (both the <sillyname>.local and the FQDN).  After a few tries with that, it doesn't even give me the opportunity to choose another machine, it just says "Continue" or "Quit."
So, is there any fix for such a predicament?  I can still activate the "connect to another mac" menu, but, for some reason, it will not accept the password that works everywhere else and that I set on that mac.  I'm not convinced that it's even trying.
Disc sharing also seems not to be working.  It's a clean installation of Mountain Lion, over there.  If I ask to share the dvd drive, the other computer offers a dialogue, and, after I approve the request, nothing happens - my new mac just waits and waits.
Edit - even if I enable remote management, for everyone, with no password, on the other mac, my rMBP won't connect: not with FQDN, not with <silly>.local, and not with IP address.  What is going on?
    Yikes!
    Advice appreciated.
    Barbara

What are you formatting it as? MAC OS Extended (Journaled)? This is the only format you will be able to install ML on.
Why didn't you just uninstall the beta of CS6? The full version is out. and the Betas are discontinued, I believe, making it impossible to fully use.
I have had CS6 running now for over 48 hours, saving animated gifs, Jpg's, raw's, tiffs, so on in PS, AI and Flash and they all save just fine. Everything in CS6 has surprisingly been unbuggy and the recovery options it has (when your computer crashes) is so worth the update!
There might be an issue with your license? How much more time do you have with your trial period?
in either case, this issue does not warrant a clean install. you should have first attempted a reinstall. Once you migrate your system back from a clean install you essentially didn't do anything but bring back any issue you were having before.
A reinstall seems to fix my issues if I had any in Lion.

  • Has anyone encounter a Grey Screen with spinning wheel stuck (frozen waited more than 5h) in after running Lion Installer from SL?

    Hi
I've tried almost everything on my Macbook Pro 8,2 (i7 2.0Ghz).
    Wipe/Erase the SL partition.
Burned the ESD dmg to a DVD.
Reset SMC,PRAM and NVRAM many times.
    Run Repair Disk. Passed OK.
    Run Hardware Test. Passed OK.
Download the Lion Installer 4 times. MD5 Passed.
Everytime I've tried to install lion it give me this Grey screen... The mouse wheel start spinning and it then stops, and nothing happens from that point. (Also rebooted many, many times same result).
SL Install disk runs fine, even installing it from Zero. I've setted up time machine. (The restore to definetly works also the SL installation too)
I'm a little far away to send my Macbook to a customer service.
    What else should I try?
    :S
    VR

    Thank you very much William
I ran the installer and saw the same screen stuck... After I used Shift to boot in safe mode, I got the 3 beeps with grey screen apple logo. So then I rebooted into Single User do the 'nvram boot-args="-x -v"' and voila the installer continued with no issues I've turned back de 'nvram boot-args=""' and everything seems to be working fine.
Really weird beahviour of the installer with my Mac.
    Thanks.

  • Screen Sharing from OS X Lion to OS X 10.6 Server

Hi, I bought a new SSD Drive, so I decided to initialize my previous OS X Lion installation (on August I made an update from SL).
    Scenario:
i'm trying to access from my MacBook Pro to the MacMini Server via the Finder built-in "Share screen" button on the right side (the button that appears if I select the server on the shared sidebar).
If I try to access from this button, the connection is extremely slow: 1 or 2 minutes, then the screen appears and everything goes fine.
If I try accessing via vnc (vnc://192.168.xxx.xxx) everything is faster, it connects immediately.
My account on the MacBook Pro is connected to the Mac OS X SL Server by nameoftheserver.local
Maybe an LDAP problem? Or what else... I really don't know how to solve it.
Any type of help is really appreciated.
    Tnx in advance.

  • 2008 iMac won't turn on after Mountain Lion installation

I have a 2008 iMac with 6GB of RAM that was running on OS X 10.6.8 perfectly. Tonight I upgraded it to Mountain Lion. After the installation, my machine was running slower and a little choppy, especially when first opening programs, even though it meets all the requirements for Mountain Lion. After about an hour or two of running like this, I was standing away from the computer for a minute when I saw a flash come from the monitor. I went to it and the screen was black. I thought maybe it had went to sleep, but nope! It was completely off and would not turn back on. No lights or sounds come on at all. There was no power outage or anything, and all other devices plugged into the same surge protector were working fine. I tried plugging it into another outlet and still had no luck.
Any insight onto what caused this? Is it most likely a power supply failure, and could this have been caused by the Mountain Lion installation? Considering I've had this computer for almost 5 years and this has never happened before, it seems obvious that this contributed somehow.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going to try to take it to an Apple store soon, but the earliest appointment is a few days away.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's quite possible that the power supply failed. The failure is difficult to be related with OS X Mountain Lion, so I would discard that. In some cases, it's normal that you experience slowness after installing a new OS X version because Spotlight indexes the hard drive.
The best you can do is to take it to an Apple Store or reseller so you can get your Mac diagnosed. Now we can't do anything else apart from thinking that is a power supply issue

  • Line across video since Lion installation

Since my Lion installation this week, I occasionally get a line (black for brighter pictures and white for darker pictures) every few seconds for a split of a second. The line is across videos and across pictures I insert to my project. The line can be seen in the preview screen on iMove and, unfortunately, also after rendering.
Before the Lion installation this was not the case. The footage is (pictures and videos) from a Sony HX100V (50i) and I use iMovie 11. Any hints?

Finally some good news!  Thanks Frizzante!
Updating to Mountain Lion and installing the latest iMovie (9.0.7) also solved my problem.  There are no artifacts whatsoever when I render my projects now.
So I can get rid of my Snow Leopard Partition :-)
Please remember that if you have old projects (from the Lion era) that have been rendered with artifacts, you need to clean up the project before rendering again.
    Here is what I did:
    Close iMovie
Go to the "iMovie Projects" folder in Finder (it is in the Movies folder)
    Select the project in question
Right Click and select "Show Package Content"
Open the "Movies" folder and delete any .mov files here (or move them away to another folder).  These are cached from earlier rendering sessions.
Open the "Proxies" folder and delete all the folders here (they all start with "~%2FMovies" - or move them to another folder)
Open iMovie again and render the project again (e.g use the Share - Export Movie menu).  This time there should not be any artifacts.  The rendered file is cached in the "Movies" folder inside the iMovie project package.
I hope this last bit will help solve any remaining iMovie rendering problems.

  • Lion installer not completing

After downloading the Lion installer from the App Store, I tried to install over 10.6.8.  Several attempts have failed.  After maybe 3 minutes of running, the installer leaves me in the disk utility screen, with no way out except to choose one of 4 options, none of which are useful.  If I quit the disk utility, I wind up booting in 10.6.8.  My only guess is that the App Store download is flawed, but I see no way to repeat the download.  Any ideas?

Update:  I contacted Apple Support through the Express Lane option and was called by a rep.  After listening to my problem he bounced me to a senior advisor.  I have so far spent over 2 hours on the phone and much more on my own trying everything  under the sun.  The most recent was to do a clean installation of Snow Leopard on an unused disk partition, upgrade to 10.6.8, and try to install Lion.  In every case it fails in exactly the same way.  So far the installation log has been no help to the guy.  What I was calling Disk Utilities is actually Os X Utilities, with 4 options other than quitting.  The only option worth trying is to re-install OS X, which simply loops around to the same failure.  I have sent him a dump from Profiler, but so far he sees nothing wrong with anything.

  • No external disk encryption available when booted from Lion installer

Problem: When booting my Mac Mini from a Lion Installer USB thumb drive, Neither Disk Utility nor diskutil from the command line seems able to actually encrypt an external drive. They both seem to be able to convert the drives to coreStorage, just not actually encrypt the drives.
Background: I was able to successfully preform 3 encryptions from the Lion system on my 17inch MacBook Pro before failing as described above:
    1) I encrypted my main HD in my laptop (using System Preferences > Security & Privacy)
    2) I encrypted my Time Machine backup (Using Time Machine system prefs)
    3) I converted an external 2TB USB drive filled with data (I had a freshly mirrored copy of all this data as backup) using diskutil cs convert -passphrase from the command line
each of the successful encryptions took about 24hours/Terabyte
Here is where I tried and failed, step by step:
    ### Failure 1
I created a bootable backup of Mac OS X Lion on a USB thumb drive. I booted my Mac Mini with it and attached a 2TB external USB drive that I wanted to encrypt. It was a blank drive so I launched Disk Utility from the recovery/installer screen and created 1 partion, GUID, Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Then I went to the Erase tab and chose Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted), provided a passphrase and erased. It took just a couple seconds and said it was done.
I moved the 2TB external to my laptop running Lion, it asked for the passphrase and when provided the drive mounted just fine but when examined with "diskutil coreStorage list" I see a couple problems (besides the fact I don't believe it encrypted a 2TB drive in 15 seconds)
Conversion Status is NoConversion and it's not listed as revertible - my successful encryptions are listed as "Conversion Status: Complete and Revertible:  Yes (unlock and decryption required)"

    ### Failure 2
Still booted from thumb drive installer, I attached a 1TB Firewire drive with files on it (it is a mirrored copy of an original drive) and l launched Terminal and attempted to use "diskutil cs convert /Volumes/mydrivec -passphrase" to encrypt the drive without erasing it first. Again it seemed to work, it went thru the corestorage step and when mounted on my laptop running Lion I'm asked for the passphrase and it mounts and the files are all fine but again it finished in seconds instead of the 24 hours I was expecting, and diskutil cs list shows a conversion status of "converting" but no progress is being shown in Size (Converted) or Conversion Direction and Revertible says no decryption required

  • How to How to install ATI Radeon HD2600 driver on bootcamp 3.0 windows 7 partition w/black screen problem

Ok....so i've posted this question in a different way, and i gotten several "scratch the surface" answers from people just saying to install "Ati catalyst", or insert the os x dvd and run set up.exe, and update  to boot camp 3.1 or 3.2...while these all seem like great suggestions, I am finding myself needing more specific direction or "hand holding" so to speak.....here is the MAIN problem...
    The Background/history
I used boot camp (3.0, and i found updates for 3.1 for imac and for windows, but can't find for mac pro, AND they all are ".exe" files which run on windows..which as you'll see is the big part of my problem...So I recently updated my mac pro (with the ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic PCIe card with 10.6.7 from 10.5.8.  I created a single partitioned drive to install windows 7 professional 64 bit.  The download software function didn't work (Thanks, APPLE for that poor level of support) so have to select the option that i have already downloaded, or have other media with the drivers already on it....i restarted with the windows 7 disk in....
The installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
So the installation of windows 7 seemed to go flawlessly, was able to use my existing 23" hd apple cinema display (so somehow it has drivers that work with the graphics card, or maybe the motherboard's on board video components) and i select english, and install now, custom, blah, blah, blah...installation causes a few reboots, then restarts ultimately back in os x since that is the default boot os i use on this desk top and have to do the "opt" button to select booting in windows....so when i try restarting in windows, now using the actual boot drive on which i am installing it, it ran through another reboot or two, but then after that, my display goes black....  in the communities, the solution sounds super simple... "go download the ATI catalyst for the black screen problem....windows 7 doesn't have device drivers that work with the ATI radeon hd2600...no problem, just go download and install...."
The problem, re-emphasized :  I cannot even finish the install for windows, because of this driver problem....i cannot see anything....I have tried to reboot in safe mode, and that then seems to invoke whatever basic drivers that do work, likely through the motherboards onboard video vs the actual graphic card, and the screen works and says that it's wanting to complete the installation, so i'm thinking awesome this is gonna work....and then.. "windows installation was not completed and cannot be completed in SAFE MODE, need to restart, blah, blah, blah" pops up...and forces reboot...so Safe Mode allows me to see, but won't allow me to finish the install of windows 7...and without completing the install i can't run (ranther I DONT KNOW HOW TO) any of the various .exe files everyone is telling me are the solutions to my problem...like update 3.1 and 3.2 bootcamp...they're all .exe files?  not sure why, because bootcamp runs in 10.6.7 i thought, but whatever...it needs running Windows to execute...then the ATI radeon hd2600 driver for windows 7 that i downloaded from the site has an installation program that is an .exe file, which needs windows to run...  Does this make sense, why i can't just use these fixes, that seem to be the only fixes out there....so can someone school me step by step here (not just the highlights) of how to update bootcamp, and how to install the ati radeon driver  without having been able to complete the windows 7 installation because the monitor goes and stays black????
This is so very frustrating for the record...and any substantial help "not just go download this..." would be immensely appreciated.
Some other things i've been told to try that i've tried and nothing seems to happen as i'm told it will....
---I've been told to install the osx dvd and run "setup.exe"  - AGAIN...it's an exe file...and 2 - when i put in the os x file it just wants to re install 10.6...so need more help if this is even a real solution to understand how to make it work...
---I've been told to update boot camp to 3.1 and/or 3.2 from 3.0, using Apple Software Update....Well, my software update is saying everything is up to date and there is nothing new to download at all, and when i reverify the bootcamp version it is still only 3.0.2...and again downloading the updates from www.apple.com/support/  for 3.1 and 3.2...all of those are .exe files...need windows to run them...again, refer to the problem described in detail above...
---I've been referred to the black screen on imac early 2011 thread saying it should fix my problem...and reading it it SEEMED like the most promising resolution...it involves creating a boot flash drive for windows 7 and an xml file that sets the imac drivers to auto install during the windows installation..and it got me farther than anything else..but still ultimately ended up in the darned black screen...my assumption is that it's because it's for imac and not mac pro so not ati-radeon specific drivers....ok....that's enough..please...anyone who thinks they can help...your help is desperately needed...thanks so much in advance!

hey Hatter, thanks so much for getting back...so just to be super clear...is there no way to install the drivers using an exe file given my current state? no way to do it with command prompt or something?  if can make work with existing card, i'd prefer it...now when you say it's 'toast' how do you mean?  it works well with the os x partitions and always has...so i'm not sure i follow, just want to be clear...
Now to your point of starting with only the one drive installed...so i would put that bootcamp drive in bay 1 and disconnect the rest...i'm not totally sure what you're suggesting the effect should be of doing this?  just that i'm just installing windows without the bootcamp deal...but if windows 7 doesn't support the ati radeon hd2600, it still will go black screen no? or you're saying it will run video through the motherboard if it's the only bootdrive, and will run all the way through the windows install without trying to switch over to the hd2600?  (slrry flr these questions..just really want to make sure i understand what you're telling me..thanks so much for your patience and help by the way...it's very greatly appreciated...your support is priceless!
So now, assuming none of the above is possible...referring now to the ati 5770 that you referred to...you mention it works with 10.6 well, and that windows 7 supports it ...2 questions on that
         1) Windows 7 supports" meaning, out of the box windows 7 supports it? or will i have to install drivers still through some update, because again, if that's how i have to do it, then won't work, cuz can't start windows to see anything to install any drivers or run any thing at all...so it would have to just work with initial installation.
2)hardware wise for my Mac Pro 3,1...intel dual quad core xeon, blah blah....will this card work? it's a PCIe and should fit on my board no prob, etc?

  • Trying to update OS to fix White Screen problem.

Hello, I have had my Blackberry 8520 on a Virgin contract for about a year and a half now. Recently it has started randomly just changing to a black white screen that won't allow me to turn it off or perform any functions. The way I temporarily fix this is to plug it into the charger which acts like a reboot and brings it back to normal (pulling the battery to reboot it just restores the white screen after loading). In trying to find the resolve to this problem, which I haven't yet, I rang the Virgin helpline who told me to update my OS. I currently have the version 5.0 Bundle 1096 and I am trying to update it to the 5.0 Bundle 1168. I have been having increasing problems with trying to do this. I updated my desktop software for Blackberry but updating through this software always brings up the message at the install stage (after backing up my data) - "An error has occured while downloading software for your device. Please verify your internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists." My internet is working fine and I have tried many times to update through this way. I have also tried updating through the blackberry website "web based updates area" that brings up the same message. Looking through over message boards, I tried the attempt at updating through the LOADER.EXE way. However after trying to download the OS manually to my computer, which my internet explorer thought was dangerous, it came up after with another error message - "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error from reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.' I am now out of ways to try and update my Blackberry and have no idea how to solve the white screen problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Karen x

Just to specify the final type of the updating I tried was following the instructions on this links - http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html I choose Europe, Virgin Media, Blackberry curve 8520. I got the software on to my computer and the error message that came up, appeared after choosing language and agreeing to the terms and conditions and starting the installation. I own a late 2009 Macbook Pro, and it keeps freezing after OSX Lion installation.  I will post my computer's 'specs' below.  I installed Lion, from Snow Leopard, through the App store.  The first week, it worked like a dream, and was loving my brand new computer, or so it seemed.  I then began to run into problems, and I can't confirm this 100%, but I believe it was after I updated from 10.7.1, to 10.7.2.
The freezes are sporatic at best, and cannot be narrowed down to one app.  I googled the issue about two weeks ago, and found a fix involving a temporary log-in, verifying the disk, restarting the computer holding CMD+R, and repairing the disk from there.  That fixed the problem.  For about three or four days.  From there I brought my laptop to Best Buy, where I purchased the computer (start the groans, my dad wanted the accidental damage, and he was paying, there was no argument).  My warranty there was still good, but all they were offering was to check my hard-drive, and possibly ship it out.  That would not be good for me, as I am a High School student, who works online.
So I then decided to go to the Apple store, see what they said.  They said a bunch of people had this problem, it would cost a lot to fix, as I would need a new Logic Board.  This did not make any sense to me, as I knew it was Lion's fault, so why would they not make the L-2009MBP Logic Board compatible, and why are only a few people having this problem, well a lot more than a few, but I mean not everyone.
So I asked a friend about it, and we decided to run a back up, and erase the computer, and re-install Lion.  Figuring maybe my data was corrupted during install.  This helped for a day or two, and happened again.  So this time, we backed up only files (music, pics, documents, etc.,) and did a fresh install.  I got my computer back last night.  Now, I am not saying that didn't help.  Previously I would have frozen about 18 times well writing this, but I have not frozen once (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself).  I have gone from about one freeze every 10-15 minutes (sometimes worse), to about one every 1-3 hours.  Which, let's be honest is still a lot.
So, before I just decide to go and revert to Snow Leopard on my merry way, I ask, do any of you have any other ideas?  Or guarenteed fixes?  I know a guarentee is a hard thing to ask for, but I am desperate, my teachers are getting angry with me for not sending work, and I know this would help a lot of people.  Thank you to those who read through my whole spiel, and thank you to those who will help me!
[Ps, while I am somewhat of a noob, I know my way around a computer, so any help, or knowledge you could bestow upon me is awesome.  Especially DIY fixes.  (if your only advice is, don't buy a mac at Best Buy, don't bother commenting)]

Processor:  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics:  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software:  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)

Once it is downloaded you need to restart the computer if it does not restart automatically. When it next starts up you should note a progress bar appearing below the Apple logo. When done the computer will restart once more. The new firmware should now be installed.

  • What are "dyld" and "brtool" and why are they breaking my Lion installation?

I have an up-to-date Snow Leopard Server installation with software RAID, and cannot complete the upgrade to Lion Server. At the "restart" step, the installation throws an error and says to try again.
Here's the header from the crash report:

Any suggestions (besides "wipe the drives and don't use RAID")?

    Dear Friends
I'm getting this same error ("... dependent dylib #1 could not be loaded") on a 2x3GHz quad-core Mac Pro with 17GB of memory. I'm installing on top of 10.6.8 on a two-drive, two-slice Apple software RAID.
I'm downloading the Lion installer for the third time today and will try for the umpteenth time to install it. I've used another internal drive, a bootable DVD, and a USB flash drive, all to no avail.
If anyone knows a solution that doesn't involve erasing my drives, I'd appreciate your sharing it.
(Before I had a kid I would've installed Lion the day it was released. But now I'm short on time and waited more than six months after its release before trying to install it on our production Mac so I wouldn't encounter such problems. Hehe. I installed Lion on the day of its release on our MacBook Pro and didn't have any problems.)

  • CS4 doesn't work after LION installation

After the Lion installation i had several problems.
One of these is that the cs4 doesn't work.
i open illustrator or photoshop and they crash every time. "photoshop not responding" "illustrator not responding" and so on..
I had to reinstall all the suite that now works.
    The question is... why??
I thought is is better to format the mac... should i do ?
    thanks

    Another problem is:
When I start the Dropbox Application, it uses nearly 90% of the CPU as well, so the mac heats up, in a way that it is not possible to use the dropbox application...
(The Icon of the VLC Media Player  only jumps up and down in the dock, and nothing else happens)
